When I played this game around 2018 I was in a huge depression - skipping my college classes and just laying in bed all day. This game was on sale for like 20 bucks at the time and I had heard good things about it so I bought it and it immediately became one of my favorites of all time. I was still skipping class but instead of moping I at least had something to look forward to and put mental energy into - learning all the weapon types and how to build my character etc. I easily put over 300 hours in within a few months and it changed my life for the better because I felt accomplished. Thank you so much for this video. I started worlds this weekend but was really confused on what this game is. You helped me understand how to approach this game (coming from elden ring/ghost of tsushima) this was a big mental change in terms of approach.
I think Monster Hunter is certainly overwhelming, but a new player shouldn’t hesitate to dive in. You don’t need to be a master of the game from the get go, not even at the very end of the game. The game is wonderfully designed to permit you to start knowing only how to attack (and not even doing it that well) and progressively learn more as you rise through the ranks. As each hunt gets more difficult you’ll find yourself mastering your weapon, your evasion, the items you use and more. Allow yourself to go in clueless and you’ll pick up what you need to know as you go along
I'm right there with you. Replaying world on PC coming from ps5. Gotta admit its daunting considering I'll never get the 1500+ hours safe on my playstation over to my PC but I actualy think it's for the best considering Wild seems like a natural successor to World and it would be a great time to grease the drives on my SnS skills. SnS and Gunlance users rise up.
I am so happy that Monster Hunter is hitting mainstream the way it has. I want to see larger streamers do open lobbies, help a ton of people, and just spread the community. Also, if anyone is wondering, world and rise are patterns we will see for the sixth generation. Wilds is what they call a mainline game, while Rise is a portable entry. We should see a new generation of Rise at some point.
Yeah but it is THE monster if you're new or if you wanna practice new weapons because he's such a big squishy punching bag. Like for just learning new weapons he's great for that. Plus who actually likes rathalos? I get it's the franchise flagship but I hope wilds only has base Rath's I can live without azure, pink, gold and silver
I just started to play this game three weeks ago(my first monster hunter game), and Im addicted to it now. I don’t know why it didn’t reach the same level of success as Elden ring or baulder’s gate 3 did back then, but man this game is amazing. The only thing is ice borne is way too hard 😂.
I really liked base MHW, but I wasn't a fan of Iceborne because of the clutch claw. They inflated HP pools a bunch to account for the extra damage tenderizing with the clutch claw gave. You were basically forced to use it and I just didn't like it.
This. Played through a number of times with different weapons, but always stopped around halfway through Iceborne, not because the monsters were hard, I rarely carted, but because the fights started taking so long.
The running animation is like when you are trying to run in your dream but no matter how hard you try you cannot run effectively. The earth keeps spinning under your feet and you flail your elbows and knees but you cannot create displacement. It looks so goofy.
Yeh I feel like they pretty much just embraced goofiness in a lot of areas. I don't mind it, but I could see people bouncing off the game if they thought it was too much.
As it should, I hate when people complain about the goofyness in monster hunter. Still can't believe they removed the potion flex in world. OH BUT IS SO DUMB. Man, there is cats cooking for you, you don't take fall damage and you sword is three times your size. I hope wilds don't go further in the ocidentalization of monster hunter. We already have Witcher 3 and other games for story and mature content, we don't need more of that. We need more weird Japanese shit. Except for the furries AND waifu community. I'm fine without those
@@PauloCesar-oz6dy We have plenty of goofy japanese stuff already xD If the Monster hunter games and the Musou games and the Capcom games go in a more realistic direction i absolutely wouldn't mind xD
@@l0rdfr3nchy7 I would LOL I don't want realistic monster hunter the same way I don't want GTA 6 having a combo system with cancels and stuff. Each game with its identity. They already did the necessary changes. Streamlined alchemy, separate inventory space for crafting. They even shove like 50 potions in your face just for logging in. Removing potion flex and the tasty sound effect when roasting the meat was beyond stupid, as it was sccotflies.
A buddy of mine from the fighting game community offered me the game on Steam, asked me to give it a fair shot. He explained to me some of the “rules” and mechanics. I love this game. I love the monster designs, I love how each of them can dictate a certain pace… I hate my buddy so much! It is both extremely punishing yet incredibly awesome when everything lines up and the monster eventually goes down.
9:56 Just to give you the info, monsters scale to 1, 2 or 4 players (with 3 players, it will scale as if you were 4 anyway). Very few monsters don't follow that rule, like Extreme Behemoth or Ancient Leshen (who are kinda scaled to 4 players at base). They also scale depending on the amount of monsters you need to hunt, so if you need to hunt Rathalos, Rathian and Jagras in 1 quest, they will have way lower hp individually then if you fought them in 3 different quest. (It doesn't matter that other monsters are in the area, only those you need to hunt them).
Monster hunter food > studio ghibli food any day 2:41 also love the mh community. All we want is more people to come play our niche game. So glad it's becoming more than it's ever been before and it's starting to get the recognition it's always deserved.
I played like 6h of MHW when it came out, but idk it just never clicked with me? I see people gushing over it time and again, but it never drew me in or hooked me. I just never launched it again after the third day...
Monster Hunter is amazing but, it really needs someone to hold your hand in the first few missions, back when I bought the base game when the DLC didn't even existed yet I'm barely interested to continue after fighting Great Jagras, so I basically abandoned the game.., until a few years later a friend of mine popped up and asked me to play again, but this time he'll be guiding me with his prior Monster Hunter games knowledge, then in the next few months Monster Hunter Worlds is the only game I play. So you really need that initial hook to be interested.
A while ago I played monster Hunter world and I didn't like it, but I didn't understand it and I beat wild hearts last year and loved it. So I'm getting ready to play world again
After 400hrs my favorite thing is helping out newbies. MHW is one of those games that's hard to hate, and if you're having a hard time on a monster just remember if it's not your gear, its that you have to learn from your mistakes.
Strive isn't a sequel to world. Monster hunter has two alternating series, one where they experiment with broad new mechanics and it's kinda weird, this is strive; and one where they have a more story and implement the experimented techniques like World/Wilds.
Never played a MH game before, so going in completely blind to Monster Hunter World is the best choice I ever made for a game, 700+ hours later , it's a top 3 game of all time for me
I put 150h in when this came out, then I started playing again a few months ago and I'm now over 500h. It's weird, I love this game a lot more this time around than when I started. MHW is a GOAT.
It’s funny because I never touched a monster hunter game before rise, remember I picked up the demo and did not like it at all… then capcom did a great job with the marketing and I decided to give it another shot… and played for give or take 80 hours 😂 I don’t know why it didn’t click the first time around. Might try monster hunter world but might also just wait for wilds
I have now three hours on the game. Still a little overwhelmed. I’m not sure if I’ve ended the tutorial or if I’m seamlessly following the story now. But hunting that pukei pukei was pretty satisfying
MHW is incredible. Can't wait for Wilds. I anticipate getting addicted again like I did with MHW. I think I might hop back into this game having seen you play it!
I missed playing Monster Hunter. I was playing day one. About two months after Ice Borne, my system messed up and I lost my character…. I couldn’t bring myself self to start over after all that time was lost.
World has been on my wishlist for some time, and I thought about playing it, maybe later this year. I was basically told that if I liked boss fights and animation locking from the Souls game, then I’d probably enjoy the Monster Hunter series as well.
Yeah you'll probably like it in that case, although it is different as there's no hard lock on system like fromsoft. I'm a big fan of all fromsoft games but in my opinion, Monster Hunter does boss fights better (that's kinda the game so it should do lol). There's a lot of complexity to each of the weapon types, if you choose one of the more complicated ones such as charge blade it would take you maybe 5-10 hours to become competent with it but potentially hundreds of hours to really master it like a speedrunner. So much replayability, and hundreds of hours of fun to be had! Massively recommend it whilst we wait for Wilds
I just got World and Rise for cheap after hearing a lot of good things over the years and it seems like starting to play an MMO that came out like 6 years ago. As in, it got tons of updates since release with new mechanics patched in, and it's quite overwhelming, not everything makes sense immediately, and there's a hard core community with its own lingo, etc. I have to admit, I expected more of a Single Player story experience and I'm not into the anime and cuteness cringe. BUT the core gameplay and combat that is basically a series of boss fights - that's pretty unique, and I think I now get why some people really obsess over the game.
The lighting in Monster Hunter Wilds looks like a huge step up compared to Monster Hunter World. I wonder if they were running that on PS5 Pro hardware during the PlayStation State of Play.
I'll see if I give it a second chance. When I first played it it was a little overwhelmed for the many things you have to do (Considering that many said that this is a good game to start). Maybe now that I played other more classic MH games I could appreciate this more
Luke ur killing me bro. Watching u play Long Sword my main and not build up the gauge is killing me. Anyone who’s never played and want to try u need to build the little sword top left corner with R2 combo. U only need to connect the final hit of combo to build the gauge. Lol.
For someone who hasn’t played a monster hunter world can someone tell me about the game. Most new games don’t interest me but I’ll be open to trying new franchises I haven’t played yet. Like is it similar to the division in terms of creating builds?
Haven't played division so idk. But what I can say about monster hunter is that the learning curve is steep. You might hate the game at first, but as you get better at hunting the monsters and get the hang of the loop of things, it becomes addicting, rewarding, and therapeutic even.
It is sort of similar to The Division for gear set skills. When you defeat monsters, you get materials which you use to craft that monster's gear. Each gear piece comes with skills that relate to the monster (like a fire monster having gear that increases fire attack, etc). Gear can also have set bonuses where if you equip a certain number of pieces from the same monster (usually 2-3) then you get a bonus skill. That's where the buildcrafting comes in. Let's say you wanted to max out your crit chance (called 'affinity' in Monster Hunter), you would have to equip gear from different monsters to max that skill out. There are also skill gems which you can slot into gear and skill charms which you can craft to further min-max the skills on your gear. Also all the stats on gear in Monster Hunter is fixed so you don't have to worry about having to reroll stats. You can further augment your gear but that is an endgame mechanic.
This game was the last game that I ordered from GameStop. I waited in line late at night after preordering it. Definitely a core memory. It was also the second to last game i ever preordered (Anthem was the last lol)
i love MH World since i was addicted to Tri on the Wii back in the day but i have a rearly big negative point on the clutch claw MH World has the overall biggest health pools for monsters in the entire series because thats how they half heartedly "balanced" the higher damage on clutched parts For players like me who dont engage in the usage of the clutch claw its a big setback because we need overall more time to kill the same monsters As i hate using a controller and only ever play with keyboard and mouse its not even close to desireable integrating the clutch claw into my gleve fighting style (i have to at least use 3 different key combos all while aiming down the slingshot - yes its as stressfull as it sound in a real fight) Thankfully the developers already aknowledged this issue and promised to not reintroduce it in Wilds again by the way i had flashbacks watching you also struggling with the Barioth - i love htat guy but it gets my heart running every single time ^^
You think there's any chance Wilds won't be pay-to-win? A huge part of makes World so good is just the fact that you can't enter a world where every bit of progression you make including is tied to actual gameplay.
i don't care that shrieking legiana is unpopular, i will never forget my first quest against it and the utter cruelty that the poor barioth suffered. 5 dam turf wars between him and the 2 legiana, since shrieking likes to call the other one for help so most of the time they are in the zone together. Wilds has monster herds, with some of the new monsters. i hope returning monsters get that treatment too, imagine a flock of legiana or seregios. Those were both in the story of their respective games but to see it in gameplay would be something else. They never said open world, just massive maps. People are just assuming open world but some of the wording on the official website goes against that.
Monster Hunter World is easily up there with my top games of all time. I can hardly wait for Wilds, I'm going to have to book time off work for that launch :D
ok so slight correction, wilds is not a direct sequel to monster hunter world, technically iceborne was much like sunbreak was for rise, point being the only "sequels" in this franchise is just adding G rank, or for fivers, master rank, to the game. second, rise is more in line with the franchises MO which is the handheld games. if anything, rise was a return to form. third, world was created to bring in a western audience, so basically world is an anomaly within the franchise. lastly, no game after the first MH game on the PS2 is a sequel, each one tells its own contained story but all games are the same shit, hunt monster, carve its carcass, make weapons and armor of said carcass. so there is no "sequel" talk with this franchise, UNLESS specifically stated by the devs. lastly and finally, wilds cannot, i repeat, CANNOT, be a sequel to worlds since MH world takes place in the "new world" meaning a different continent than where the series usually takes place, which is where wilds takes place, the "old world" or old continent. im happy you love monster hunter world, but its not the first game in the franchise and if it gets a "sequel" it will take place in the same continent as the previous game in a different location with a different story and you might cross paths with the first-fifth fleet cuz yall in the same continent.
Also MY GOOD SIR LUKE YOU GOTTA DO THE WITCHER EVENT QUEST YOU GET HIM AS A SKIN AND IF YOU ROCK SWORD AND SHIELD YOU GET HIS SILVER SWORD AND A MAGIC SPHERE THAT REPLACES THE SHIELD ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥
i just downloaded this game bc i thought it looked cool. idk anything about monster hunter though. and ik a beta just came out for the new one. should i still play world?
World is my favourite game of all time. Rise is probably my third (better combat but slightly worse in most other ways mainly because of the lumitations of the switch). And im skeptical of how the MH gameplay loop translates to Wilds, which looks open world

Also, if anyone is wondering, world and rise are patterns we will see for the sixth generation. Wilds is what they call a mainline game, while Rise is a portable entry. We should see a new generation of Rise at some point.
Replayed it from the start all the way to fatalis recently, it’s so good!
MHW will always be in my top 2 best games off all time.
I started playing Monster Hunter Rise again. I freaking love riding the mounts! Cant wait for that to return in Wilds!
monster hunter is the series i have played more that any other in existence and I plan to keep that going when wilds drop lol
Same, the only other game series I have more hours in is Tekken.... and that's me saying that with 3000+hrs in the MH series
Great Jagras is not the monster, it‘s Rathalos xD Jagras is a boxing sack
Yeah but it is THE monster if you're new or if you wanna practice new weapons because he's such a big squishy punching bag. Like for just learning new weapons he's great for that.
Plus who actually likes rathalos? I get it's the franchise flagship but I hope wilds only has base Rath's I can live without azure, pink, gold and silver
Also like... Rath is literally just a dragon / wyvern. Jagras is a lot more unique of a monster so I can see it being more recognisably monster hunter
@@Sku11King77 rathalos is literally the mascot for the entire series. he's the most recognizable monster
I just started to play this game three weeks ago(my first monster hunter game), and Im addicted to it now. I don’t know why it didn’t reach the same level of success as Elden ring or baulder’s gate 3 did back then, but man this game is amazing. The only thing is ice borne is way too hard 😂.
you’d be surprised actually. MHW sold more than Elden Ring
Iceborne is where the game expects you to have learned mix maxing, that's why it's hard
Iceborne only became that hard because monsters have more health and have new and quick movesets
It did. You were living under a rock
Clueless.
MH sold more
I really liked base MHW, but I wasn't a fan of Iceborne because of the clutch claw.
It's really not that bad, especially if you compare it to the Jedi Survivor games running animations
Since the PSP days, my sister and I have been monster hunters! Seriously can’t wait for Wilds!!!
Been playing a whole bunch of monster hunter rise, world, and GU over the past couple weeks and I’ve been loving it
MH Rise was one of the best games I've ever played. Big fan of World but I have way too many hours into Rise
Thank you for giving me ptsd on the shrieking legiana double trouble
Monster hunter food > studio ghibli food any day 2:41 also love the mh community. All we want is more people to come play our niche game. So glad it's becoming more than it's ever been before and it's starting to get the recognition it's always deserved.
15:54 Luke saying Chef's Choice is always the best is a massive YIKES!
Oh geez, you were in collage when World came out? Way to make me feel old, dude
I was 37...
I'm playing Monster Hunter for almost 13 years now and i still listened to all the things you explained.
I played like 6h of MHW when it came out, but idk it just never clicked with me? I see people gushing over it time and again, but it never drew me in or hooked me. I just never launched it again after the third day...
What a coincidence, I just downloaded this last night. I've only ever played the 2 Stories games
I never played, well I started it only played a few hours and just the other day I was thinking of giving it another shot.
Rise was sooo good and why I got into Monster Hunter.
MHW is incredible. Can't wait for Wilds. I anticipate getting addicted again like I did with MHW. I think I might hop back into this game having seen you play it!
Just seeing the UI again gets me hyped for wilds. Haven’t played world in so long.
Have like 1500 hours in World. So excited for wilds. Gonna spend so many hours in that game.
I see a monster hunter video, I immediately like
I love this game so much. I came back to it when I first heard about Wilds, but I can't dedicate enough time to satisfy myself. Lol.
I missed playing Monster Hunter.
I was playing day one. About two months after Ice Borne, my system messed up and I lost my character….
I couldn’t bring myself self to start over after all that time was lost.
Fyi guys the quest board lets you post any quest no matter where the board is located.
Controls are weirder than souls
"You can build different loadouts to adapt to each monster"
Me just using the pretty armor
Was never a fan of MH games but, my god, World was astoundingly good. Can't wait for Wilds.
I wonder if they were running that on PS5 Pro hardware during the PlayStation State of Play.
currently playing this game. thanks for infos bro
This is a game ive had way on the backburner of my mind for quite a while. Just never got around to it
You gotta work on those botanist quests, man. Get you more things to harvest and better fertilizers xD
Lol.
I still wanna go back for Icebornes Crown achievements but there so much of a pain i tend to quit fast again.
Lets gooooooooooo Monster Hunter Content! Cant wait for Wilds!!
I think everyone who plays this game has the exact same reaction to him picking a shrieking legiana quest😭
This game was the last game that I ordered from GameStop. I waited in line late at night after preordering it. Definitely a core memory. It was also the second to last game i ever preordered (Anthem was the last lol)
i love MH World since i was addicted to Tri on the Wii back in the day but i have a rearly big negative point on the clutch claw
MH World has the overall biggest health pools for monsters in the entire series because thats how they half heartedly "balanced" the higher damage on clutched parts
For players like me who dont engage in the usage of the clutch claw its a big setback because we need overall more time to kill the same monsters
As i hate using a controller and only ever play with keyboard and mouse its not even close to desireable integrating the clutch claw into my gleve fighting style (i have to at least use 3 different key combos all while aiming down the slingshot - yes its as stressfull as it sound in a real fight)
Thankfully the developers already aknowledged this issue and promised to not reintroduce it in Wilds again
by the way i had flashbacks watching you also struggling with the Barioth - i love htat guy but it gets my heart running every single time ^^
You think there's any chance Wilds won't be pay-to-win?
A huge part of makes World so good is just the fact that you can't enter a world where every bit of progression you make including is tied to actual gameplay.
After all these updates, do they let you skip cut scenes yet??? 🙏🙏
i don't care that shrieking legiana is unpopular, i will never forget my first quest against it and the utter cruelty that the poor barioth suffered.
Luke talking about MH is low key adorable 😉😂
one of my favourite games, i've been fiening for the next game and I will be there no matter what
Monster Hunter World is easily up there with my top games of all time. I can hardly wait for Wilds, I'm going to have to book time off work for that launch :D
Monster Punter 2: This Is Sparta!
I started my 1st playthrough of World after 25 hours in GenUlt.
HBG! Also, because they don’t censor player names, you can see some wild stuff when you join multiplayer.
This game inspired me to improve my cooking and make better meals. I am not shitting you.
Really really wish they would have brought some of these elements to Dragons Dogma 2
Nice, btw Rise is no longer exclusive to the Switch.
ok so slight correction, wilds is not a direct sequel to monster hunter world, technically iceborne was much like sunbreak was for rise, point being the only "sequels" in this franchise is just adding G rank, or for fivers, master rank, to the game. second, rise is more in line with the franchises MO which is the handheld games. if anything, rise was a return to form. third, world was created to bring in a western audience, so basically world is an anomaly within the franchise. lastly, no game after the first MH game on the PS2 is a sequel, each one tells its own contained story but all games are the same shit, hunt monster, carve its carcass, make weapons and armor of said carcass. so there is no "sequel" talk with this franchise, UNLESS specifically stated by the devs. lastly and finally, wilds cannot, i repeat, CANNOT, be a sequel to worlds since MH world takes place in the "new world" meaning a different continent than where the series usually takes place, which is where wilds takes place, the "old world" or old continent. im happy you love monster hunter world, but its not the first game in the franchise and if it gets a "sequel" it will take place in the same continent as the previous game in a different location with a different story and you might cross paths with the first-fifth fleet cuz yall in the same continent.
Hearing the music made me reinstall 😂. Guess I needed something for next two weeks anyway
Also MY GOOD SIR LUKE YOU GOTTA DO THE WITCHER EVENT QUEST YOU GET HIM AS A SKIN AND IF YOU ROCK SWORD AND SHIELD YOU GET HIS SILVER SWORD AND A MAGIC SPHERE THAT REPLACES THE SHIELD ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥
yoo your game looks way more colorful than mine how do I get it to look like that
Remember this game has mods too so you know have even more fun with it 😎
i just downloaded this game bc i thought it looked cool. idk anything about monster hunter though. and ik a beta just came out for the new one. should i still play world?
Luke , you should do a deep dive in Red5 studios and their game Firefall. Really interesting shit
The monsters are balanced around 1 player, 2 players and 4 players. 3 players is the same as 4 players
World is my favourite game of all time. Rise is probably my third (better combat but slightly worse in most other ways mainly because of the lumitations of the switch). And im skeptical of how the MH gameplay loop translates to Wilds, which looks open world
Unless its changed again scaling is 1,2 or 4 player it used to be just solo or multiplayer (4) but it was changed quite early on
Wish I could get into this game but the controls hurt my brain. Perhaps if I wasn't trying it on PC with a standard mouse... I want to be able to play this game better.
Successfully made me re-install. Well played, Mr. Stephens.
