I appreciate the amount of work you put on your videos. We need more content like this to guide us through the 'fluency mountain'. Some adivice on how to learn languages can be invaluable. Thanks for this amazing video lesson. One of the most difficult things for me is to manage the free time I have to study English. I'm always confused about what should I focus first, right now I'm trying to practice speaking on a really good app called 'tandem'. I recommend to anyone that wants to exchange languages and find people to talk to, it has native speakers of many different countries. Also I read a little and watch UA-cam videos to train, reading and listening too, the only skill I'm not working on right now is writing. To master the 2000 high-frequency words in English is not easy, the main issue for me is how do I find an appropriate material for my language level that matches my personal interests.
Thank you so much for this comment. You might not know it, but you’ve given me some ideas for future videos (Also, you ARE practicing your writing - every time you write a comment!). I understand your frustration. We all want a clear path and a clear plan for language learning and it’s not easy to find something that’s clear, at our level, AND interesting.
Thanks a lot! Tonight, I could get to sleep. I happened to get this video. wow Can't tell you how much it meant to me!. Hope to see you On Top of the mou! From Korea!
Hey, Brittany! Thank you so much for such an inspiring and helpful video! I want to take a moment and share two problems I'm currently having that hold me back from moving on to a higher level of English. So every time whenever I learn new vocabulary words/phrases and they get ingrained in my mind to the point that I apply them in conversations/writing, it seems like other words I learned before just vanish from my memory and I don't remember and cannot put them in practice how I used to. Same thing happens with any interesting grammar constructions that I encounter. It upsets me a lot bc it makes me think that there is really something wrong with my memory and I will never get rid of it. Along with that, I really struggle with articulating my thoughts in English. I know the issue isn't in the fact that I just don't know how I feel or what I think about specific topic, because when I try to think about it in my native language, there is bunch of things I can say. It's just so overwhelming, because I feel like I am pretty fluent at English, but when it comes to making sentences, writing essays or giving a speech , I am uncapable of using my knowledge on full capacity. It's like I am fluent only in my head, but in real life it is absolutely opposite. Have you experienced any of this while learning French or maybe some of your students had similar problems? I would be beyond grateful to hear an advice or some tips regarding my situation from you. Thank you for taking your time and reading this!
Hello! Wow, thank you so much for sharing your experience. That must be very frustrating, to be so proficient and yet not able to fully express yourself sometimes -- and to forget words and constructions when you need them most. I can definitely relate. Nothing is abnormal in terms of language-learning (and there is still so much that researchers, teachers, and learners just don't know yet). There are some questions we can ask ourselves and steps we can take to try and work out these 2 issues you're facing. Some things to consider: -What specific situations are you struggling in (speaking in school, work, with friends, presentations) and what sorts of topics? And how often are you practicing for these specific types of speaking? Sometimes we just need to give ourselves some grace, and allow ourselves more time to practice in these specific scenarios (not just in our heads, but out loud and often). -Is anxiety part of the issue? Are you getting nervous or flustered and could this be affecting your ability to remember certain words or to express yourself? I would also add that forgetting and remembering, or forgetting and relearning are very normal processes in the language learning process (even in our first languages). Sometimes we need to re-learn and practice a FRUSTRATING amount of times before something really sticks! Keep at it. You're doing great.
@@EnglishwithBrittany I appreciate your help, Brittany! I’ll definitely consider all the things you mentioned. I suppose my anxiety and constant dwelling on people expectations from me might be the root of the issue. You’re such an amazing teacher and I’m so glad I stopped scrolling my feed to watch your video yesterday! I’ll keep trying regardless of anything that attempts to stop me!

@@EnglishwithBrittanyAbsolutely! It brought to my attention that you wish you could speak Spanish or French in a more fluent way and I kinda wish more people in the US could speak English the same way you speak so clear and perfect so I wouldn’t wish I could have subtitles in real life 😅
I think I'm not fluente speaker as much as I would like even in my native language. But I aways try to convey my thoughts in a simple way that other people can understand (even in English).
Let me ask, when listening, should we look at the vocabulary? I was really confused in the listening section without looking at the vocabulary because I couldn't hear anything at that time. I'm a beginner and I really need your advice
Hello! You don’t have to use flash cards to study vocabulary, but they are effective. If you’re a beginner and you want to learn the 1000-2000 most common words in English, write the words on flash cards (you don’t have to do ALL of them at the same time!). On the back of the flash card, you can write a translation of the word in your first language, but it’s better to write a sentence in English that uses the word. You can use google translate or AI to help you write the sentences. Seeing the word used in context and trying to remember how the word is used in a real sentence is more useful than just learning the word in isolation. Hope this helps!
Hello mam ...I watch your all videos I'm having cracking new vocabulary and phrasal verbs ...I feel I'm more confident sometimes I didn't speak another topic which I feel anxious or sad ... It's important to achieve fluency evey topic....?
Hello! That's perfectly normal. It probably happens in your first language too. Sometimes you might feel really comfortable with a topic and with the person who you are speaking to. Sometimes you might feel less comfortable and confident... It's okay! I would recommend focusing on improving your English fluency for the specific conversations, situations, and topics that are likely to happen most frequently in your everyday life (or in the life that you want!) ❤
Hi! I'm sorry, I'm having trouble remembering... Can you please tell me what time in the video you saw the book and I'll let you know what it is? Thank you!
"Winners never quit and Quitters never win" Mam I'm a frustrated person living in a small village of Bangladesh 😢 mam I've 2 question. Will you give pathway about that to boil down my skill of learning English 😕
Hi there, I’m really sorry you’re feeling frustrated. Don’t quit, but you can always take breaks and come back to it. Another way to look at this is to set a “big” goal for 1-2 years from now, and then set small weekly or monthly goals that you can get excited about now.
@@EnglishwithBrittany Actually, mam I live in a village so that's why I don't have highly Manifested technologies or teacher. Currently, I'm studying in class 11 and taking preparation of IELTS for studying in abroad specially in the UK. So will You suggest me some tips or strategies so that my ambition of learning English language becomes a piece of cake. However, there have only 4 months of my IELTS exam and my speaking level is Band 6 to 7 out of 9 🥹.thats very pathetic 🥹I've seen some of your videos. Your suggestion of learning vocabulary from Google really worked. Thank you, Maam🙂
I'm not sure that "you only need to know 2000 words of English" is more misleading. Many words have more than one meaning. Just because I know one meaning of a word doesn't mean I know the other meanings. But this is important because the other meanings are not always obvious. And another problem are "phrasal verbs". E.g. "get" and "back" are easy words, but "get back" have four meanings. In order to understand texts, i have to know the meanings.
Hi! The 2000 most commonly used word families* cover about 90% of everyday spoken conversation, according to Paul Nation (2008). There is of course, much more to learn than just these 2K words families. But learning the most frequently used word list IS a significant accomplishment (in my eyes at least) and SO much can be accomplished in terms of everyday communication with just 2000 word families -- more than most learners realize! Hopefully that is what learners take from that section of the video.
@@EnglishwithBrittany I'm confused. I have been written a reply, but they is'nt here. Second try: Thank you for your reply. I would like to try to explain my point better. Sorry for my English. But as you have say, try to write texts every day =) . I have a vocabulary app and I have made the effort to enter the words that I know entry in this. I'm almost up to the 2000 words. Maybe I missed some words and I know more. And I have learned more words in the meantime. But I am getting close to the words. Nevertheless i can't understand a newspaper as well. Why can't I? According to your quote, I should i be able to. The meaning of "I get the download link." is very simple. The meaning of "I don't get this." is not simple. But the individual words are easy. Anyway, I only understood the meaning a few months ago. Another e.g. "I feel blue." The individual words are also easy. However i can't understand the real meaning, if i don't have the knowledge. Itself many translation programmes fail here. I just want to get to the point out that i think the quote misleading. I think the multiple meanings of words have were not considered"
I agree that it's not the most motivating method to learn vocabulary. To be honest, I would probably personally never make 2000 or even 1000 flashcards for myself, unless I was a complete beginner in a language. A more fun option (which is supported by research) is to read A LOT -- well, I think it's fun anyway! Reading is an excellent way to learn vocabulary.
@@lucias1276 The topics that you talk about in daily conversation are probably the topics that you will most enjoy reading. That can be fiction or non-fiction. Some ideas: Graded readers are simplified versions of books, adjusted for people who are learning English; graphic novels (which are FULL of conversation examples); the news in simplified English (try VOA Learning English news). There are endless options, but most importantly -- find something you're interested in and read a lot.

"Hello, teacher. Is it true that a learner of English who understands 70-80% of what he/she reads or listens to doesn't need to search for meanings anymore? The only thing this person must do is to immerse completely in the language, and fluency will come naturally, just like in their mother tongue?"

You're welcome!

Hello from a village of Mount everest
😍😍😍 really?!!
Please I want to know the name of vocabulary book that was with you in this video
Hi! I'm sorry, I'm having trouble remembering... Can you please tell me what time in the video you saw the book and I'll let you know what it is? Thank you!
Congratulations 🌹👏⭐️❤️🇮🇳

Mam I'm a frustrated person living in a small village of Bangladesh 😢 mam I've 2 question.

Second try:
Thank you for your reply.
I'm watching in pakistan ❤

To create all those flashcards..that s so time consuming that most of us give up
I agree that it's not the most motivating method to learn vocabulary.
To be honest, I would probably personally never make 2000 or even 1000 flashcards for myself, unless I was a complete beginner in a language.
A more fun option (which is supported by research) is to read A LOT -- well, I think it's fun anyway! Reading is an excellent way to learn vocabulary.
@@EnglishwithBrittany fiction? But many times you come across vocab you never use in a daily conversation..so only for those aiming for c2 level 🤔
UA-cam Music will completely replace Google Podcasts from June 23, 2024. UA-cam Music is much more convenient than UA-cam as screen-off mode is available and listeners can opt to do other things either on the phone or not. It has two modes: audio and video Could you please make your channel available on UA-cam Music as well? Thanks 💖.
I’ll learn more about it! Thank you 💕
"Hello, teacher. Is it true that a learner of English who understands 70-80% of what he/she reads or listens to doesn't need to search for meanings anymore? The only thing this person must do is to immerse completely in the language, and fluency will come naturally, just like in their mother tongue?"

I appreciate it ❤️
What are those 2000 words? Where can I find ?
There are several of them, from various organizations. Here's one easily accessible (PDF): cdn.learningvillage.net/sites/default/files/highfrequencywords_2000_1.pdf
And here is a video I made to test yourself on the 2000 most commonly used words (a small sample of them!): ua-cam.com/video/Mw0pmJwrk2o/v-deo.html
