Bone broths (even organic) have very high levels of lead (Pb).

Thank you for your comment! We will add a note to the description regarding the need for everyone to check with their vet before giving their dog bone broth or aspic.

      Not VERY high levels.
If you look at the studies it has been shown not to be unsafe.
There are heavy metals in lots of things we eat

I really cringed seeing you throw out those carrots. I make bone broth, and I remove the carrots and freeze them in a single layer on a silicone sheet, then put them into a freezer bag and give them as treats to the dogs on hot days. They won't otherwise eat carrots but they love frozen bone-broth infused carrots.

I started giving my senior min pin, who was taking gabapentin for arthritis pain, bone broth about six months ago. She is no longer on the gabapentin, with her vetʼs delight and approval. I highly recommend bone broth for senior dog.

I'm glad your dog is doing well. Just be careful as bone broths, even from organically raised animals, have really high concentrations of lead (Pb).

@@scrane5500 Sadly my dog died last week as a result of complications from Cushingʼs Disease, a disorder common to her breed. I know she wasn’t in pain the last several months of her life nor was she sleeping all the time from the gabapentin. No matter, I believe the bone broth is what kept her off the gabapentin. I would think thrice about giving it to the younger dog the vet suggested. I am not sure, thinking about it as I write, if she knew the younger dog would help the elderly dog (he did, she was coming out of the kitchen) or if the vet knew I would need what my family called an “Emergency Back Up Dog”-many thanks to Dave Barry.
I know caring for Rocky has kept me out of the hospital.
Thank you for your warning. I believe, as did her vet, the bone broth was a better choice than gabapentin.

You should roast your bones first before boiling

Absolutely! Roasting improves the flavour for humans but it's not necessary for dogs. But you can absolutely roast the bones beforehand if you prefer :)

@@gentledogtrainers think the roasting does a littlemorethanjust improve flavor i would also cut the bones and add a little fat and a little meat. like some o-bone steaks trim or leftover if you are also a non waste person these bones can be reboiled to help clean them further for making bone jewelry.
