    We stopped feeding kibble because of many dogs sick & dieing in US right now. Maybe pesticides or melamine in dry food. Dr Judy is Still testing. We cook meat & vegs in slow cooker. Now i will make this broth to add also instead of store bought. Thanks

    Im a Mom of a Boxer mix about 70 lbs, and a Dogue De Bordeaux. The boxer mix has horrible allergies, and I suspect some kind of gut issue with the DDB cuz he is just under 2 years old and has horrid breath most of the time, and he has had regurgitation issues. I am trying to get all the ducks in a row to get them on a raw diet. I live in a small city and do not have much bulk buying possibilities near by. In the mean time, they are getting a bit less kibble. And im adding some meat (raw or lightly cooked), any broth i can make, pureed fruit and veg, along with golden paste. Money is a huge obstacle. I am also going to treat both for leaky gut, the boxer mix for sure. I hope my DDB gets better with diet change and some herbs and supplements. Im glad I came across your channel. Every week i am getting more information to help my boys❤️

      Awesome! You can totally do it! Especially at 13 months. You're out of the young puppy stage which can be quite nerve wracking. Keep me posted on how it goes. I will have more raw content this year. Let me know if you have any specific questions I can help answer.

    Great tips Stephanie. So easy to make. I gotta get the crackpot liners & apple cidar vinegar, then we'll be on our way. I see bone broth powder & treats everywhere, but they can be pricey and who knows what's in them.
    On another note, I've been making my own golden paste (which is so simple), and it seems to work really well for our mastiffs growing pains. Thank you again. Happy turkey day. Max says he can't wait for the turkey neck! 🦃

      You are so welcome! And yes, store-bought is so much more expensive. Let me know how they like the bone broth when you do it. You will love having a crockpot, so it's worth the investment for sure! I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving! 🦃 I have a feeling there will be ample amounts of drool in my kitchen on Thursday as well.

      Thank you so much! My boys love these and they are pretty small. I’d say I throw one or two in their food 4-5 times a week - so most but not all days.

    With left over dinner using the bones and what's left on it such as flavours spices etc added to a roast affect my dog? I appreciate the knowledge you are sharing. We have a Neo x de Bordeaux 6months. A picky at that.

      That's a great question! Honestly, I don't get too worked up about mild seasoning. Anything super spicy I usually try to avoid for obvious reasons. For example, if I make BBQ chicken with a spicier sauce, I will try to remove most of the BBQ before putting the bones in the crockpot. If I"m doing turkey bones from a whole turkey, I put the whole thing in since most of the seasonings are mild to non-existent by the time we clean off all the meat and such. Does this help? Let me know if you make this and how your dog likes it. 😊

      Thank you. I appreciate your wisdom. I introduced him.to raw food diet he loved it however I felt I didnt know enough and was anxious he would miss out important enzymes or vitamins for his growing limbs. I've gone back to commercial products. In particular Possyum. He was a fussy pup and now wont eat it unless it has raw meat mixed in with it. Sheeps liver etc. Is this okay or?

    Picky eaters? Lol That is a myth in my world. I count myself lucky. Your babies make me miss my mastiff. She was such an awesome dog.

      Haha!! I'm lucky now with two good eaters... but I have struggled with past dogs. I do find the reaction of Lab and Golden owners to my topic of picky eating hysterical. Our labrador years ago never met a food he wouldn't eat - whether it was food or not. 🤣

    I had no idea how good bone broth was for dogs!! I’m curious, is store bought bone broth good for them as well or does that have other added ingredients?

    • @BigDogMom
      @BigDogMom  2 роки тому +1

      It really depends on the brand you buy. I put several commercial bone broth brands in the full blog post (bigdogmom.com/bone-broth) if you want a short list of decent options. 😊

      Just my opinion and an FYI. Be very careful of store bought bone broth most have added salt and chemicals. I would definitely do homeade or make sure it's free range and organic, but bigdogmom definitely knows her stuff 🥰🥰🥰

    Do you keep fat on the bones?

  • @karlagutierrez5141

    You use cooked bones to recook for broth? I thought once cooked all the nutrients have come out. What if I make chicken soup can I not just use that broth?

    • @BigDogMom
      @BigDogMom  2 роки тому +1

      Well, the secret to pulling the nutrients out of the cooked bones is the vinegar. While it's not bad to feed your chicken broth, it's not going to have all of the collagen and glucosamine and chondroitin that bone broth offers. This is a terrific question though, as I can totally understand why the confusion. Thank you for asking!!
