There's a strange comfiness to Oblivion, especially in towns. Maybe it's Jeremy Soule's music, maybe it's the sort of crusty PS360 aesthetic, maybe it's the janky radiant AI with their repetitive conversations, but it's just cozy.
The dialogue interruptions get me good. 🤣 "Put tha-" "Stop, th-" "Thief, y-" "Man down, ma-" "You, tre-" "May Talos g-" "Help! Help, I-" Also, I don't think I've ever seen the guards running in fear before now.
Radiant AI best AI, undefeated even to this day. Contenders are many, including Bethesda's newer works (even CDPR joined in to get the first spot) but none are as radiant as Oblivion's.
I had spent a lot of time talking to every NPC in the Imperial City, everyone liked me and had a disposition 70+ to me. The guards caught me stealing something, they tried to arrest me. I resisted and of course all the guards attacked me. But everyone else attacked the guards. It was quite a intense fight.
@@ThatsCoolDude I didn't know that or rather I didn't think that far. I just wanted to annoy the guards not create a blood bath. There where quite a lot of people around. But I also had guards just paying off my bounty instead.
The radiant ai combined with the potato faces makes Oblivion a timeless classic that is both incredibly fun to play and gives a strong sense of nostalgia. I started a Skyrim play through for a bit at one point. It was was fine, but it felt like it was missing something. The magic seemed lackluster and it took itself too seriously. I did only play it for a few hours, so we’ll see. One day I’ll return to finish my play through
Just came back to my Skyrim character after finishing the main quest in Oblivion (thankfully loads still to do, including Shivering Isles). I'm a latecomer to both, having picked up my Xbox 360 during lockdown. While Skyrim is legitimately amazing - the water and fire effects, smoke, weather etc. so much more elaborate than Oblivion's one wonders how the hell they squeezed it onto that console generation - I do feel it loses something for the greater polish. The loss of spell-making is especially sad, as it makes magic into just a standard grind rather than a weird and wonderful exercise in lateral thinking (and is also a severe departure from Elder Scrolls tradition). Also, melee combat just felt way more crisp and responsive, for reasons I can't pin down (but not for nothing does my Skyrim character keep reverting to stealth archery...).
1) Orcs have the best and heartwarming smile! 2) It's super funny to give essential NPCs spells that last for 2 minutes... They just wake up and day over and over again...
I love how picking up a cup or a jug in a tavern gets you branded a thief. Like what do people do in taverns? Just sit around and engage in casual conversation?
Does anyone else just love this music? Like LOVE this music. It’s so soothing and nostalgic. It can always put me to sleep like a baby. Is that weird? 🤔
These are of course the same brainiacs who don't duck when you point a loaded bow at them in a room full of fresh corpses with arrows sticking out of them. God I love this game.
I don't know what's funnier, the entire Imperial Watch chasing you to the ends of the earth because you poked a metal cup, or the guards in Whiterun letting the Thane free despite him slaughtering half the population.
Very relatable video. One time, I went into a bar, picked a glass up, and put it down. Every single person there accused me of thievery. Then the cops ran in ready to arrest me. I didn't want to pay their $5 fine, so they shot the shit out of me. Fun times.
At least in skyrim, You can pick things up and it wouldn't be considered stealing, Putting them in your inventory is considered stealing in skyrim, Which is honestly better overall.
I want an elder scrolls game where npcs can call you a “Vandal” for knocking things over. Just imagine the lines… “Clean that up you no good vandal” “Help! This is vandal wrecking the place!”
imagine if there was a npc that ran behind you and tried to get a sneak attack off because of you thinking they left they could even add the door opening and closing
Just realized Oblivion is probably the only game where touching or moving items will make other NPC suspicious even calling guards which is make sense, meanwhile Fallout and Skyrim doesn't have that feature unless you straight up steals it in front of them.
I am so glad the developers took this glitch out if Skyrim. You can pick up stuff and move them around and nothing is done to you. In a way, I feel like that makes these games the best. Cyridol is stricter than Skyrim with its laws... makes the game play really immersed and realistic. Cyridol is like a gated community, whereas Skyrim is like Detroit, Miami or other major city where the cops are more relaxed. Oh, Bethesda... I can't wait for your version of the Middle Eastern and Asian cities when TES 6 comes out. 😎👍 Anyways it is tiny little details like these that I love playing TES. Speaking of playing.., I wonder if my HP computer could handle Oblivion. 😵🥺Or better yet when will Bethesda ever come out with a Special Ultimate Collectors' Edition pack case featuring all five games? Morrowind is too foreign and strange, Skyrim is too post-apocalyptic and rugged. TES4's Cyrodiil is just where life is good for everyone.
