Randy's lyrics saved me from falling to a point of no return. I was at the point where I was drinking a bottle of Jim bean every two days, waking up on my floor every morning, going to work still drunk and I was ruining friendships. I listened to 11th hour and King Me over and over again for 2 weeks while I was struggling with sobering up and I can successfully say that I have been sober for over a year and my life has completely changed.
I know the band or Randy wont read this comment but I just want to say thank you.

@@Scorpionbite8 just switching evils doesn't solve the underlying problems and issues. If you have a bad day, you wont have the wherewithal not do a shot of speed or heroin, or pound a pint of liquor, whatever the substance. But I agree, MJ is a great medicine for health and well being.

I spent about 20 years drinking and 15 years doing drugs. Shortly after I sobered up, two friends died from partying. About a month apart from each other. This part of this interview with Randy and his book helped a lot. Now it's a day by day thing for me.
Randy is the only metal vocalist, that usually has harsh vocals, that hasn’t subsided one bit. on stage live he still sounds the exact same

Not really. He talks about how he had to change, went to a coach, so that he could save his voice. It's still brutal, but it's different, but that's by design

But the reason you felt enough was enough on your alcoholism and you said I don't feel like breathing and then you talked about how you HAD TO DO something.. that's how strong your willpower is in what you believe in and what you stand for. Bro.. you have been an inspiration to me over the last decade especially you going through what you went threw when you were in trouble.. man your entire posture mentally and physically has been an inspiration to me for what I'm going threw right now... And to see how good you are after all the turmoil in 2022 has inspired me to keep holding on brother. Love you man.

I love listening to people speak on recovery. It’s just such a joyous topic as a recovering addict. Just being able to say “I made it another day clean and sober.”, such a huge achievement. We love you Randy, keep on rockin, and keep on doing what you’re doing one day at a time brotha!
I was twelve years old at the Sounds of The Underground tour in Winston-Salem, NC around 2007. I was there to see my favorite band in the world for the second time, Lamb of God. A scrawny short kid having trouble seeing over the crowd, I was noticed by some huge security dude who beckoned me over. Thinking I may have been in trouble, I almost ran, but went up to him. I learned much later that he was better known as 'Tiny'--personal security for LOG--and he was anything but! "Hey kid, who are you here to see?" I told him. "Come with me we'll see if there are any extra backstage passes laying around." Um yeah. Okay! Next I was led to an array of tour busses and was allowed on board several of them. "This is Opeth's bus." What? My other favorite band ever? Really? To my left I saw Devin Townsend and Mikael Akerfeldt, previously engaged in casual conversation they had now turned their attention to the bug eyed kid who had just been led onto the bus. I asked a few awkward questions and we continued on. LOG was about to go on! Just had to find Randy... So we walked, and walked, and walked... but no Randy. Calls go out over the radios, nobody has any clue where he is. On the COMPLETELY OPPOSITE side of the compound, on the other side of a ten foot tall chainlink fence, drunk and mumbling to himself, was Randy Blythe. "Hey. HEY! You go on in ten minutes what the FUCK ARE YOU DOING." *incoherent mumbles* "Dude get your ass on the other side of this fence! How did you even get over there??" And after a time he saunters back over and we book it back toward the stage. They went on, let me hangout on the side of the stage the entire time, played the best fucking show I've ever seen in my life, and Randy carried me around on stage during 'Now You've Got Something To Die For'. I left them with a Killadelphia DVD, a bra that was thrown on stage, and everyone in the parking lot wanted my autograph. I'm 28 now, and that is still one of my greatest memories. Congratulations on your sobriety and thank you for the funny story I've been telling for nearly two decades.

Hearing this come the lead man from my favorite band of all time is powerful as fuck, especially when he said "i didnt want to live anymore" shit really hits close to home especially when you share similar problems. Lamb of gods music has helped me push thru hard times in the past and theyre still my go to band to jam the fuck out to keep my mind free. This is powerful shit

I drank 28 Heinekens with Randy while LOG was recording Ashes at Cary St. Cafe to see RPG on Richmond, VA. A good time and forever memory but, I drove home with one eye open and Randy was famous for a home video drunk brawl with his band mate.

So glad that Mr. Blythe managed to get sober. We've lost too many people in the metal world to drugs and alcohol. I know those things come with the territory, but at the end of the day it's these guys who make the music, not the stuff they consume. I hope he's around for a while.

Randy truly saved me with this. My drinking got to a critical point until I finally realized I needed to make a change, and I don't regret it for a second. I've never felt better physically, mentally, emotionally, every possible way you can. Beyond thankful that I'm 2 years in, and I plan on never going back.

Being An alcoholic since 2014, still someone who fights the battle every day to not drink it's not easy, you can't just quit, that's how you get seizures, get violent, if you've been around addicts or alcoholics then you get it, if you haven't then DON'T JUDGE. It's like Duff mckagan from Guns n Rose's said in his book "nobody Sets out To be an Alcoholic or a Junky" my father had a bad meth habit til he passed away earlier this year, he would tell me all the time "quitting meth is like quitting breathing" it's the same concept when you are an alcoholic. No excuses, no bullshit, if you haven't been there dont judge. I look up to Randy as an inspiration, he beat the bottle. This interview gave me hope for myself

Its true what randy is saying about everything, 2020 is coming up trying to start early with getting sober, also as somebody whos played in at least a dozen bands over the years, yes. It does happen. But we move forward 🤘
i struggled alcoholism since 3 years i want to stop i cant but else i cant understand why people need to be sober ,thinking about drinking alchohol and being drunk is life and thats shows you are crazy but im wrong, but when listerning Randy talking about his addiction this give me inspiration thats alchohol its dangerous and destroy urself also u fucked up your life , respet Rndy hellyeahhhh

I quit alcohol 4 years, and now I'm trying to get off of benzo's I was given for 3 1/2 years.
benzos are awful, I was hooked on xanax for a while and getting off them was worse than booze. good luck to you, I've been off all drugs and alcohol for 2 years now.

I didn't pick fights with people when I drank but Randy was partly an inspiration for me to quit. I too was upsetting people when I drank the way I did. I sold off the last of what booze I had and placed myself in isolation, except for completing my first year of college.

The part where he is discussing getting to the point of not wanting to do ANYTHING anymore, resonates hard with me.
I am a daily blackout drinker (binge drinker) of over 10 years now, as if it was religion to me. I’m at that point now, and I know I need to stop.
I don't want to minimize this, but this is the way my friend:
Inpatient detox
Immediate 30 day inpatient rehab
IMMEDIATE attendance at AA upon leaving rehab. Like, leave rehab and go straight to a meeting.
You got this. You have the ability to recover. Take it from me- you CAN RECOVER (sobriety date 11/13/2015).

I remember every now and then seeing my ex detox off alcohol. It was fucking scary. Shaking, tremors, puking, insomnia. I would be scared to come home to a dead person. It was complete hell. I wouldn't wish what I experienced it on my worst enemy and I really mean that.

People always associate any type of addiction with trauma in early life, but thats far from the truth. Plain old boredom will get you addicted to anything. You don't have to come from some messed up family to be an addict. I'm sure boredom is where at least 50% of addicts are made. Idol hands is the devil's playground. I love drugs and alcohol simply because I love being f**ked up. No other "method" will suffice. You can talk all you want about "how bing sober is better than not being sober" but I can tell you.. Addiction is a life long condition. You may make it 5 years sober, but from one addict to another... Your always going to think about it. Your going to eventually miss that feeling of being smashed sooo much that simply relapsing is less painful than sitting around thinking of how great it used to feel.
