I met Randy last year at a show here in Albuquerque, New Mexico for a concert. It was one of them meetings that JUST happened. When you're at the right place at the right time. I knew I would meet him someday and it happened! What was also was awesome was telling him about my recovery story and I'm 13 years sober from alcohol myself and when he was going through the same situation of a murder charge, I was as well and I was wrongfully accused and my charges were eventually dismissed. I shared with him that when he so happened to be standing at the gate and right when I looked, I ran to him and told him my re and story. He took the time to listen and he asked if I wanted a picture with him. We got some pictures and I'm so grateful to have met him. I can't wait to see the show this August. 512 is my favorite song! I love him, he's an amazing man with an amazing soul!!
I remember Randy Blythe jumping into mosh pits and headbang in the front row during other bands sets at Ozzfest. I was bumping into him and then I was like hey, I think that's Randy from Lamb of God....
In one weekend I ran into Randy twice. One time it was 2 AM and we asked him where we could get beer. We weren't from Virginia and didn't know you couldn't buy alcohol @ whatever time it was. He ended up just giving us his own 6 pack of beer. Next day I got knocked out in a mosh pit while Insect Warfare played and got knocked out. Randy caught me and pulled me out to a calm spot and made sure I was okay. Mind you I'm 99% sure he didn't realize I was the same person he gave his beer to the night prior. This was before he was sober so if people say he's nicer now that he is, he must be @ sainthood now.
Randy's right, you do ask some interesting questions. Really thought-provoking, and not just for the interviewee(?) because I found myself pondering them as well. I might be talking out my arse with this kind of philosophy, but I believe the best questions ask more than they answer. Not just yes or no answers. You and Randy are great dudes, keep up the good work!
It's crazy, to hear him speak, you'd never believe he was the lead vocalist if Lamb of God. His speaking voice is quite a bit higher than his growling voice.
My best friends and I are all Huge Lamb Fans. I have gotten a few of them into LOG and they have become harder metal heads to this day. They, we love LOG. I wonderd a few of these questions myself. Hope to see Randy again playing hard on stage. This was a great interview. Thanks Loudwire,Randy.
I've gone through the same thing. Alcohol changes from an ordinary thing that most people do for fun into the cause of all sorts of trouble and it's hard to stop. It takes time and a huge toll to realize that you're going down. People always warn you you'll end up getting liver problems, but you just think it's a thing way into the future and you'll have plenty of time to quit before that happens. But sooner than you know, you're waking up in the most dangerous situations and realize you been very close to being totally fucked up. As it becomes more frequent you start to fear sometime you'll just die or wake up iin jail for having muredered someone that you don't even remember. But it's when you see the edge just below your feet and see a huge abiss in front of you, that you decide to quit. But it's forever an everyday battle.
True. There is whole periods of my life I don't remember. I used to drink to black outs everyday of my life. The thought of getting off work and not drinking into a black out was foreign. Then add Xanax into the mix and there's weeks and months of no memory. Non stop partying. I woke up in jail once. Turns out I had been there 2 days. Got myself pepper sprayed and I didn't remember anything. Not the hit and run, not the resisting arrest, not the screaming and banging on jail doors. I just sat there in my cell shaking from alchohol withdrawals. Went to rehab. Got out and started right back. Finally I got it. It became clear that my life was over if I didn't do something. I had alienated myself from everyone that was a positive part of my life. It's a struggle at times, but at least I know exactly what I did and don't wake up and have to apologize to everyone.
David L glad you made it. Since I wrote that comment I had a major relapse. Hope you keep it on the track out of this addiction. You only need to fail once and it's all back on you, do not falter, ever.
@Bradley Schroeder I have struggled (And still do) with Xanax and Opioids. Have for about 10 years. And honestly, the mental aspect of it is something I can muster, but the biggest hurdle is that withdrawal. Opiate withdrawal feels like you have the worst case of the Flu combined with erratic emotional ups and downs, and Benzo withdrawal (Xanax) has you feeling like a completely exposed nerve. It's a terrible life, and people that haven't been through don't get it, "addiction" isn't even the right word, dpendency fits better but even that doesn't quite do it justice. But yes, it's hard, so goddamn hard. Hope you all are well.
*Luis* *Avila* & *Swampy* *Wilkinson* - If you don't enjoy it, that's fine. I give my props to Randy for quitting drinking I used to stupidly think it was lame of him to quit the booze until I drank myself into a bleeding ulcer and had to quit myself. Afterwards I realized how stupid it was of me to be an alcoholic in the first place and it definitely feels alot better to be sober and clear headed then having lost control of what I'm saying and doing and making an ass of myself.
