Often a mortally wounded/incapacitated seal is still alive after being shot. The clubbing is simply a way to put them out of their misery. The same way a hunter would put another round in a deer if it was still alive. I would never do it. But I also eat meat and what they do in commercial farming is no worse than seal hunting.
