The $5 to $20 Challenge: Can Thrift Store Flips Really Quadruple in Value?!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 чер 2024
- In today’s we find several items at the thrift store for less than $5 each. Our challenge is to transform these pieces into stylish home decor, to quadruple their vale. Can we use items from my crafting stash to upcycle and repurpose these pieces and sell them for four times what we paid? Our mission is to transform a large metal vase, a jewelry box, two small gold picture frames, a framed floral print, a heart cut-out stool, a cutting board, a glass clock (missing the clock!), and a wood tri-fold mirror. Be sure to let me know which upcycled item you think is worth the most!

Sherry, there are artists, there are crafters, then there is you - a Composer of Subtlety. I just love your inspiring work! ❤
I love the trifold mirrors. Even more, I love your "never quit," disposition. If you don't like where it's going, take a leap and change it.
Oh, that’s so nice of you to say! Thank you, Laurie! 😊
You amaze me with your ability to "see" what a old piece could be if redone. You are an inspiration to me
I can`t believe how much inspiration you generate ! All pieces are gorgeous !
That bird mirror was pure perfection, so beautiful 😭😍
Who ever is doing the pricing at Goodwill hasn’t a clue what they are doing! Nothing makes sense. I’ve started to make fewer and fewer trips to the store out of pure aggravation. These are USED and often damaged items that they got for free! Then turn around and price gouge me? Disgusting. They say it’s for charity but I’m starting to question the validity of it. I believe someone is lining their pockets. Just my opinion. I do better now at garage sales and flea markets.
Me too thanks for sharing
Who? Like the DEO of Goodwill Industries? The CEOs of the 12 largest Goodwill organizations received $300,000- $900,000. That's why, when the cashier asks me if I want to "ROUND UP" for such and such, I tell them I"I think I'll let the CEOs of Goodwill Industries do that."
I was blown away by the makeover of the trifold mirror!
Me too! at first I was thinking, Oh gee, how can she possibly transform that? The end product is just beautiful!
I think the tri-fold mirror was the biggest change and best profit!
Definitely the metal vase, it is gorgeous, and a close second for me is the green triple mirror project. Great job Sherry!
I love them all, but the tall vase is stunning!
My favorite as well. So pretty!❤😊
Sherry, Judging by all the sold signs I would have to say yes all your creations are worth 4X the purchase price. I love all your creations. Monday cannot come soon enough. Have a Blessed and safe week.
I work in a thrift store (in Australia). Only a few of us are allowed to price items to stop what you are seeing with the crazy prices. My favourites are the jewellery cabinet, mirror shelf, and cutting board. I would pay much more than four times the original price.
The floral picture remake is definitely something I will do
Once again, you've blown them all out of the park! No way I can pick a favorite!!!
Oh, thank you, Judy!
It's difficult to choose a favorite, however; the tri-fold mirror has my vote. You are one very creative lady. Thank you for sharing your ideas and God bless you and your family.😅🎉
the mirrored shelf turned out great; and definately worth more than the quadruple price
Wow, my favorite was…wait for it. ALL OF THEM!! Great ideas. Every time I watch a video by you I have to pause myself, go gather all the supplies and plan a mission for a project to do!! I love how you inspire all crafters to think out of the 📦
I love seeing the updates to the older pieces - especially the tri-fold mirror! The tall metal vase turned out so beautiful!
I love the cutting board the most, but also the (first two flips) small cabinet and mirror shelf! Your ability to see how an item can be updated and turned into something else is such a gift! I look forward to your videos every week!!😊
Hello Sherry! Love your revamps in the thrift items. Yes, it's ridiculous how much greed Goodwill is showing. They've lost sight of the meaning of a thrift store.
My fave was the mirror candlestick shelf. I love all the others too. You never disappoint and enjoy your creativity so much. Thanks for sharing your talent 😊
I think the rise in thrift store prices is due to all the resellers on UA-cam going to their local Goodwill, cherry picking items and showing their value & what they sold them for. So yeah, thanks to UA-cam thrift stores are evening out the odds.
I'm not criticizing Sherry, she is flipping pieces that might otherwise languish on the shelf. She puts a lot of work into the projects as well. It's a different business. But dirt cheap bargains at the thrift are no longer a guarantee.
I think the rise in prices is because of minimum wage increases. They're also competing with the lower end junk from Walmart, Ross, TJ maxx, dollar tree, etc. Whatever the market will bear.
My favorite was the cutting board but I love lavender. I have so much in my garden right now, full of bees.
I really liked the trifold mirror shelf and the two floral prints. Everything you do is so creative.
I’m not surprised to see all the products from today’s video have been sold. I loved the cutting board and the mirrored stand. They were all beautiful.
Oh, thank you, Ellen! You are so kind!
I don't know much about increase in value, but I know my favorite projects were both sets of picture frames. You are amazing. Your Virtual Neighbor, Liz
Thank you, Liz! A good floral or bird print is hard to resist!😊
I absolutely love the 3 panels mirror. I can't believe that was under $5. Like you said, it's s really strange how they price things at goodwill stores. You are so talented. ❤
Every project you did was so elegant and simple stunning!! My fav was the little stool❤❤❤❤❤ I was so happy that you used the lumpy stuffing! It gave it a more vintage feel. Thank you for sharing!!❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much! I’m glad you liked the lumping stuffing, too!😜
Dang it Sherry by the time I get to watch EVERYTHING is sold out! Bad for me GOOD for you! You have such a creative mind. Love everything you do. TFS
So many great ideas but that vase & pics with tissue were my favs.
Your Thrift stores are not the only one that their prices are going through the roof!!! Here in N.B., Canada, we have few thrift stores, SA and VV prices have gone insane. Things at VV (Value Village) they will sell somethings from the Dollarama for more than the original price. You can still get some deals, but, they’re few and far between. Thanks for the videos love them.
Thank you! Yes, today, you have to spend more time looking through merchandise to find any deals. I drove 25 minutes to another Goodwill (even though I live 5 minutes from one) to find things that were more reasonably priced.
Your stash always has everything you need to transform your creations! You have such patience to make each piece a work of art! Loved the mirror wall hanging. The vase… let’s face it… I love everything that you do!😉
The stool is my favorite!! Sooo cute!!
Thank you, Jane! I was so glad to finally find a use for that doll blanket!
I really like that little stew. It’s so pretty now. And I like the metal vase. Also, those are my two favorites.❤
Thank you, Marie! I was so glad to finally find a use for that old baby blanket!
@@CanterburyCottage Your welcome. I find you to be a great inspiration to me ever since I started watching your videos, I have come up with some pretty creative home Decour myself. So I thank you for that and I love just about everything that you create out of all your thrift fines. You’re one of the most interesting people I’ve ever come across.👍
Not only for thrift store finds, I have multiple frames with ratty looking mats, so what a transformation! I have old small gold frames with no dresser spots to display them, I am picturing them displayed in larger frames! Thank you again! That large vase was spectacular!
Thank you, Alice! I’m so glad I could give you an idea for your small frames!
The little stool is adorable and I also like the picture with the William Morris print
Oh, I just loved the folding mirror! It was so pretty when you were done!! ❤
Sherry, I really liked the way you updated the floral pictures, the gold picture frames added to the frames, the cute little stool with pillow and especially the large vase with paint inlays. Great jobs, as usual.
Suggestion, for grape vine wreaths use brown floral tape.
For me, I preferred the cutting board in it's natural state. I like the idea of the decoupage but I like cutting boards to curtting boards. I love the little box but have noticed in my own home that absent light the pretty decor in the box is lost. I loved the floral prints. I also use dark waxes on picture frames. It just makes them so warm. Love the cotton trim on the stool. Cotton lace is wonderful for old pieces.
I'm guessing the tri fold mirror would be your best up grade. That was beautiful.
For me it was a toss up between the jewelry box and the trifold mirror shelf.. All the makeovers definitely greatly increased the value of the item. A definite win for this challenge.
Oh, thank you! The one time that I decided to buy only cheap items, I really struggled to find any that I liked!
I think the tri mirror was adorable and worth way more than 4 times what you paid, I also loved the stool and metal vase, but everything was so inventive and will sell for more too, Sherrie, good job❤❤❤
All 4 pictures& the heart cutting board are sure winners, but the little stool I absolutely adorable!!!
They were all wonderful, but that tall vase was my absolute favorite. Thank you for all your great ideas and teaching.
Adore the sweet stool!❤ That and the vase have the greatest increase in value, IMHO. Brilliant projects, as always!
Of course, they're all beautiful! I think my fave, however, is that tri-fold mirror. In love! ❤❤❤
I really enjoyed all of the thrift flips, yet I totally fell in love with how you upgraded the picture frames and the flower pictures 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 watching you combining your finds is always awesome ! Thank you
Thanks so much, Sophia! I do love a pretty floral print!
Loved the mirrors!!!
I love that tri fold mirror. Great projects.
The glass clock holder with the brooch was a great idea, loved the chopping board. The mirror shelf is so cute. Oh who am I kidding I love them all.
My favorites are the tall metal vase and the repurposed small gold frames. They look fabulous and definitely quadrupled in value!
Love them all, but I think the transformation and the cute cottage look of the trifold mirror is a favorite.
Oh my goodness, the 2 layered pictures at the end is my favorite, the blue and white paper with the bird prints look so very nice. And the little stool is just the sweetest! Thanks for such a great video, much love from California ❤
Thank you so much, Leann!😊
The stool had the greatest transformation!!🥰
I thought the little gold oval picture frames came out beautiful combined with the larger frames. That's the reason I love your channel. I am not creative to see things like that. Plus I admire your taste in artwork. Also green mirror was a winner.
I loved all the projects but definitely fell in love with the mirror!
It's a toss up between the vase with the paint inlay and the stool. Love them!
I like the 4 pictures and the cutting board remakes. They look like they're worth 4 times the amount you paid.
Thank you, Linda! 😊
Me too.❤
Also love the two prints❤
WOW! What a hard choice! I think it's between the 3 mirror piece and the Jewelry box...but they were all amazingly creative solutions. Sure wish I could "borrow your brain" when I go shopping! lol
The tri-fold mirror is so sweet! The metal vase was genius, that is worth WAY more than your 3x’s the cost mark up. Hitting it out of the park again Sherry!
Your creativity always amazes me! My favorites are the art pieces where you used different papers for mats and backgrounds. It’s surprising how a frame mat looks so expensive when it’s customized with a printed fabric or paper.
The two flower pictures were exceptional and the glass piece was excellent. Ty Sherry for such an interesting video ps i liked that little stool also. ❤️
Hey Sherry! I thought of you this past week as I purchased FOUR large William Morris outside throw pillows for my patio furniture. I found them at a combo TJ Maxx/Homegoods store, and they were a serious splurge for me at $25 each, but they are gorgeous and I would have forever been kicking myself if I hadn’t gotten them! lol
I think my favorite upcycle you did today was the vase! I love the roses on and color too!
Have a great week! ❤❤❤
Janie, I want to head to my HomeGoods right now to see if they have those same pillows! I am always tempted by their pillows, but Wm. Morris would be too hard to resist! Great find!
@@CanterburyCottage I definitely couldn't resist them... hence me buying 4! 🤣
They are all gorgeous, but I especially like the heart cutting board and the William Morris dark blue and white mat! You continue to amaze me with your ideas!
I love them all with my favorite being the folded mirror and my least fav the glass/jewelry piece.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you, Linda! I really appreciate the feedback. (The glass piece was my least favorite, too.)
Having remade several myself, I favored the black jewelry box. However, I liked where you were going with it originally, with the old anatomy pages. I appreciate the old apothecary and medical vibe. Oh, oh...vintage Halloween would be an awesome way to go with the interior display!
Awww...everything is sold. But, I am happy for you, Sherry! I really liked the upgraded frames with William Morris paper and the little stool. Thanks for sharing your genius!
Hi there. In crease in value I think the vase. It’s gorgeous. Then again the trifold looks amazing. I loved the small frames in the bigger ones with the beautiful birds are my favorite.😅. Then again all the flips just went from junk to high end works. 😊❤
Thanks so much, Margaret! 😊
LOVE the Vase... Amazing. The faux greenery you put around the mirror gave me an idea. Love it.
I liked the floral pictures the best.
Thank you, Kathy! 😊
Everything you recreate is so original and lovely. I loved the mirrored piece, the metal vase and the 2 similar wall art. You inspire me to get going on the many items I’ve always thought I could do something with but never saw their true potential. Because of your beautiful videos and the creativity you display , I’m seeing their potential in a whole new way. Thank you.
You and the channel “Kathy Jo’s DIY” channel are Both are such amazing creators!!! 😍💪🏼
The stool is beautiful! So many of those are in our local thrift stores.
Absolutely amazing thrift flips. I always love how classy and elegant you make these items that otherwise would be thrown away. Thanks for sharing your lovely talent
GENIUS. Every time I see anything bird I think of you along with grandma
I love the folding mirror makeover.and the picture frames.beautiful job on them all.❤❤
Thank you so much, Mary! 😀
Great thrift flips, thank you
I absolutely loved the green trifold mirror makeover. My favorite ❤
Everything turned out lovely, but my favorite also was the double mirror with shelf and cutting board😊
I love the stool!
The tri fold mirror is my favorite
Love the transformation of all of them!
Thank you, Kimberlym!😊
I absolutely love 1 and 2! I think all of the flips would easily quadruple in price! Thanks Sherry for another superb video. Take care darling. Charlotte xx🇬🇧
Thank you so much, Charlotte!😊
Good afternoon, Sherry! What a fun challenge ! Can't wait to see what magic you create today! ❤, Bobbie.
Good afternoon, Bobbie! Hope you liked the projects today! Boy, summer has arrived in Illinois, hasn’t it?! And, I need to work outside tomorrow!🥵
@@CanterburyCottageIt can't get as hot and humid there as it does here in New Orleans! It can't! Thank goodness for the rain to cool us down. Good luck keeping cool..
I really like the first one, as my favorite. The Japanese SB paper with bird prints were really pretty too.
Thank you, Jessica!
My favorites is the frames and stool, but everything came out beautiful ❤❤❤❤
Once again you projects are beautiful.
Love the folding mirror. I also didn’t like the flowers you rubbed on the side mirrors. The changes are wonderful.
Thanks so much! I hated wasting those rub on transfers, but I never end up using all of the transfers that come in a package anyway!
I just love the reinvented jewelry box so much!!!!
Me encanta todo lo que hace😍se ve en sus manos que has sido y es usted una persona muy trabajadora .
😍😍😍😍😱🙋🌻
My faves: cutting board and 2 floral prints.
The larger floral pictures are amazing. But then again, ALL your projects turn out amazing!!!❤❤❤❤
I think each project should be priced at least $25 ❤
I have moved right past those really outdated jewelry box cabinets so many times. Now I will be hunting for one! I love how it turned out with the black paint and book pages inside and the sweet little floral “vase.” The tri-fold mirror is a close second. As always, you continue to amaze us, Sherry!
I love how you create gorgeous artwork from boring or outdated pieces. I was so happy when you removed the transfers from the mirrors 😂😂😂😂
I think my favorite and a good seller is the first project...the black jewelry cabinet! That one is lovely
Well, you did it again, Sherry! I cannot decide which one I like the best because I love them all! I would still love to live next door to you. Thanks for sharing your craftiness!
Sherry, I think this is the best work you've ever done. I love all the projects, but I think you've increased the value the most on two pieces that I consider art and not simply craft: the glass piece with jewelry and purple flower, and the frames within frames.
I laughed out loud when you said mission impossible. Love the display cabinet! All the flips were wonderful!
Thanks so much! I thought about titling the video “Mission Possible?”😜
Oh, I can’t pick just one! But that green paint is just lovely!
You smashed the challenge I think the mirror was the one you could make the most profit on
Wonderful flips today!!!
I think you totally succeeded and quadrupling the value of your objects I especially liked the large vase
Thank you, Heather! The vase was my favorite, too!
All of them are worth more. Everything is absolutely beautiful. All are my favorites Thanks for sharing ❤❤😊👍💯
