My bargain level Oster griddle is coming up on its last days, and I'm shopping. One thing I learned today is that the BroilKing Professional model is no longer $92.00. It's $179.00, quite a price jump in just two years.
I have a 15 year old presto that's still going strong. It does have the same central cool spot but I rarely do more than 4 pancakes or French toast at the same time so it is no biggie
I use to have one of the West Bend griddles since I worked for that company and it worked fine. That was many years ago and it had the power plug which was easily removable.
I bought the Broil King after it was the winner last time in April 2018 for $92.99. It is very good, but the backspash does not want to stay put and tends to pop off if you accidentally touch it.

The broil kind was $160ish when I looked into it. I waited a few months because they had recommended it in a video from many years ago but as I kept looking I was discouraged by the reviews. I ended up with a much cheaper Presto Tilt n’ Drain after researching that presto was one of the better electric griddle brands. My model is similar to the one they showed. The one I chose just doesn’t stand up to store and drains differently. The only is issue I notice is the side by the drain container does not get as hot. It’s not a big issue as they described but it’s worth mentioning.
Maybe it's just me but I prefer Lisa's version of the gear testing. I think it's the format in which she presented everything versus the conversation style of the newer videos that's helping me understand the tests themselves.
Is it possible to use a small pan on top of one of these? Could it act like a hot plate for a small pot or pan to make soup or something "non flat"? I'm currently looking for an efficient way to do some basic cooking in a camper with very limited space and plugs. Has anyone tried this?
I cook only for myself and the Presto Liddle Griddle has served me well. It heats a bit unevenly.... I have to reposition four toast slices for more even browning, but it heats to 400F and is compact for small spaces.
I'm literally 10 seconds into this video and they've already said what I was thinking which means I'm right. "Cooking for a crowd" I noticed that anything I cook on a griddle I can cook in a frying pan but you just can't cook as much of it in a frying pan. Because I live alone I hardly use my griddle. (I got it as a Hand me down idk why my parents wanted a new one)
Hi, Thank you for the video, great one as usual. I would like a bit more information on each one though, especially the Presto for $40. Watch you actually cook on the winner, runner up, and best buy, would be nice.
I bought this as my first propane grill. It's been a fun, learning experience ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxCx5fHawkK9OoV-ojFrY8JLnZrFwAmvUt . I think it's a bit too pricey after looking at other grills, but it wasn't hard to put together and it works really well. I love the side burner option for heating food during a power outage. I have an electric stove and live in the South (Hurricane season), so this was a bonus. I also bought a cover for it and it has protected it nicely (the Char Broil All-Season Grill Cover 3-4 Burner: Large). Every few grill sessions, I take the rack (or grate) and burner covers off and clean them with a non-abrasive scrubby and mild soap. I wipe the excess off of the bottom as well, taking care to avoid the gas and pilot lines.
I have a smallish Presto that i love and have had for 20ish years now. It is too the point where I need to replace it. I was going to a few years ago with a larger one but family circumstances have changed and it's just my hubby and I now so I'm going with the same size Presto I've had for years! If it it works why change it!
I like to watch and get ideas on what the best features are, that way I know what to look for. I purchased my griddle from Walmart (Mainstay), I was less than 40.00, and does everything they mentioned, it's a great griddle.
I have a toastmaster brand griddle that has lost it's nonstick. It was great in the beginning, but, it's been a year, and although pancakes, french toast, and grilled cheese are not sticking, the fried eggs are. And, the coating is bubbling up.
The Broil King will be my next purchase. I have an Oster with ceramic-coated surface and drip tray. The temperature variance across the surface is horrendous, as well as the accuracy of the temperature indicator dial. For example, when the dial shows 350º, the true temperature is in the upper 400ºs. Tired of the frustration of trying to dial it in-it will soon be a donation. Thanks for another great review!
For pancakes I have had the best luck using my induction hot plate (not the little baby ones) with my lodge pizza pan(basically a 24 inch cast iron flat with two handles). Takes a bit to heat up (10? minutes) but once you are dial in you can really pump out the pancakes.

I've purchased similar griddles over the past 10-15 years. An electric griddle’s weakness is not in the griddle. It is the 120VAC 20 amp circuit that supplies it. That translates to @1500 watts cooking power max, and for cooking some things, that just won’t do it. I got a cast iron insert for my Weber grill that solves that problem outdoors. Indoors, no.
Oh gee, who'da thunk the most expensive would be the "best"? Or you can get a $10 two-sided cast iron griddle and use your existing stove-top to heat it. Cheap, heats evenly, easy to clean and care for, no worry about scratching or damaging the cooking surface (why wasn't this brought up as a factor?), and grease gets naturally drained away when using the grill side. Voila!
This is just my opinion of course, but I find it easier to clean up the counter top after a big bacon frying session than I do the stove top, especially with gas burners to clean around. I personally don't have a problem with the $100 for their winner expressly because of that backsplash to boot. That said, I used to own the older model of their runner up, which used to have legs just like the winner, and it was just fine for about half the money. That's why it's nice that they give you a runner up. I'm just disappointed they changed the legs.

My take? If you buy cheap for 10 years, you end up w a house full of cheap things, garage tools, kitchen appliances, furniture, mattresses, Home Theater equipment, cars, etc., in 10 years. Like most things, I research the company, reputation, who is on the BOD (Board of Directors), their Mission Statement, reputation, Warranty, ratings... all of it, with notes. Anyone can buy a $20 griddle at WalMart, etc. Especially during the Holiday season and Mother's/Father's Days. My rule of thumb? Do I want something that can do the job? If I'm going to have "said item" for over 10 years, research the top 10 models, Manufacturers, etc., and pick something that is one of the top 10, then my fav 3-5 picks, rated, based upon our research, right? In the end, you have a quality item that will last for years, presuming that said Company is still in business 10 years from now, post C19? 🤪 Stay safe, everyone... 🇺🇸 ⚘ 🙏❤🙏 ⚘ 🇺🇸 Thanks ATK.

One thing they did not discuss is storage! A griddle takes up so much space....
Why do people buy junk like this vs just a cast iron griddle they can use for the next 10 generations
Because not all of us have gas appliances
Stay safe, everyone...

Thanks ATK.
The last time this was $99 was in December
I think this might be a reused video from 2018. The website article is from early 2019. ATK isn't what it used to be.
You had me at pancakes.
Thank you but that was the least informative episode i have seen so far. What are they made of? Any other details?
Take care
Great review. Problem is that your review says the winner costs $99, but the link you give is to amazon which lists it for $183.99. That is almost DOUBLE THE PRICE! Either the review is misleading or Amazon is taking SEVERE advantage of your reviews. Very disappointing.
2 weeks after posting this video the Broil King Professional Griddle goes from $99 to $184.
When are you all going to review electric skillets?
2:28 whoaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa BRILLIANTTTTTTTTT almost as if you can't just put a couple magazines or something under it lol... but I mean... WHOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I clicked on the link, and the current version of the Broil King is $156.95. :-( The current version apparently has a new ceramic coating.
Mentioning the material would be nice. I'm guessing they're all teflon
now $`140
Please let Adam do reviews by himself the way Lisa used to do.
Adam has been doing this for over 20 years. He’s never done them alone.
This video is 2 years old & the winning griddle is now double in price from then going for $200
Broil King ouch $169.00 and $139.00 on amazon
Y’all didn’t mention the brand Black & decker that one is affordable and gets the job done. But I never thought of cold spots but it surely does its share.
$99! $43! No thanks, just get yourself a regular griddle.
That backsplash looks flimsy.
My Grandfather always said you will never be sorry if you buy good equipment. Buy the better grill.
The winner is $183.99 not $99. What's up with that. Maybe ATK needs to contact them and give them a little talking to. Doubling in price must have been filmed a long time ago. Not buying it.
