Finally someone using a D-Tap splitter :D I've been wondering the whole time why everyone has a fat V-Mount on their rig but still use single batteries for all their accesoires :D
MightyDtv yes!! I’ve seen that too. I don’t get why people only use their v-mount to power the cam when you can power an entire rig w/ all the accessories. Glad we’re seeing eye to eye here!!

Nice rig ! The only thing that I always find missing in rigs similar to yours (I got something similar for me) is somehow a middle/center handle between the two existing ones. I think that the camera would be much more stabilized if while focusing with the left hand the right hand to hold instead a middle handle instead of the right one... I noticed that in my shots and I wished in many cases to have been able to salvage a little bit 'too shaky' footage.
Hi! Thanks for the tip below about large camera bags! Internal ND is very recent feature on 'cinema' cameras in the last 7 years or so and is not standard or even used on high end cameras where there is a AC. I think sometimes narrative shooting gets mixed up with documentary (or wedding) productions where you have to react fast to get the shot. We've all considered or bought the BMPCC because of low cost raw which IMO compensates for things like internal NDs. You could also save money by having a lens mounted ND filter on all the time and using one of the programmable buttons to quickly switch from INT to EXT settings.
Very well said. Yeah, there aren't internal ND's on many of the ARRI and RED cameras. However, I know many of the cine line up of cameras are starting to add them. But you're totally right, built in VND is much more common for documentary filmmaking where things are extreme run and gun. The BMPCC lineup are great cameras and easy to add external ND to, so it's worth the trade off for many of their benefits like you said.
Since half of these items are no longer available, could you provide me with an updated list of comparable parts I could get, since B&H sent me things that just don't achieve this same rig :( I would really appreciate the help on this. Fantastic content. I can’t decide whether whether to go with Blue Kondor or SmallRig when I eventually get my Pocket4K. Armando Ferreira’s video on his Blue Kondor rig was pretty enticing. Tilta is a bit too expensive and I know SmallRig has the most options when it’s comes to modularity, which is a huge plus.
SunDevilThor thanks! Yeah, Armando’s vid on the Kondor is great, I just don’t think they have as many parts yet. All the Tilta parts are too expensive for me personally, that’s why I go SmallRig. And SmallRig is so incredibly modular, and I can use the parts between all my rigs and evolve with each cam.
Why did you plug the dtap splitter into the battery? Wouldn't you just plug it into the vmount plate? Otherwise, what's the point of the vmount plate, unless it doesn't have any power going to it? That way, you could switch batteries out much easier.
I have the Rokinon Cine Ds set of 6 lenses. Not a huge fan of the wider options but perhaps I need more time in the field with them. Do you have any links to projects you've shot with the 24mm? Also, how is latency with a wireless follow focus? I have the same monitor but there is a delay coming out of the P4K out the gate. Is it pretty terrible with the added transmitter/receiver mixed into the equation?
Buddy FX nice, I actually really like the Cine DS lens set. I shoot on the 24mm all of the time, but not exclusively just one lens for one project. Trying to think of something I can share besides client work. This vid has example shots that were on the 24mm ua-cam.com/video/VjfU_B6HelE/v-deo.html I haven’t actually had any issues with the BM5 monitor giving me a major delay out of the cam. Have you done all the most recent firmware updates? The transmitter will always add some delay, but it’s only a fraction of a second for me.
Good question, I'm not sure the exact weight. somewhere between 8-12lbs I'd say. The ursa mini pro is a great way to go if you can afford it, but it's not as versatile for gimbal use cause the pocket cams can be stripped down!

One thing I do want to comment on specifically though is with this current build would you say it’s not exactly ideal though for lens swaps? Or that there are some tweaks you could make to make a “quicker” lens swap more doable?
StephenPDavis doing a lens swap isn’t too bad actually. You just have to care of off the clamp for the mattebox and put it on the next lens. Because I’m using all rokinon cine ds lenses, the focus teeth are all in the same place so I don’t have to adjust the focus motor position at all
Carl's Cinema I mount the focus wheel on the rails cause I haven’t found another good way to mount the wheel on or near the grip yet. Still trying to figure out a way to hold the grip and pull focus.

Hey man! Question, have you had any issues recording to the Samsung T5 SSD 1TB? I just bought 2 for the 6K PRO but blackmagic says its not compatible for the 6K/6KPRO.
I've never had an issue with it. but as stated above by Jake. typically formatting the SSD in camera fixes these sort of issues. i do the same thing with all my SSD's on the Ninja V as well.
[Hi there, director with two years experience here of camera op here. I do all my rigging and shoot a lot of of handheld and shoulder mounted stuff.] I'm going to say what I don't like in this video because getting an imperfect rig is going to make you miserable, and you'll tire quickly, and you won't like the end result. This is all said because I, myself, have had the same issues, and comes from a place of sharing =) at 14:25, when he actually uses the rig is when you can see all the problems manifest. So, a quick list : - This rig is hella unbalanced. All your weight is distributed towards the front, except for the V-Mount which isn't nearly enough far back to actually counterbalance. You usally want your camera body to be over your shoulder, centerweighted, as your lens + monitor and your V-Lock/gold mount usually balance themselves out. All that weight will be on your arms. which brings us to... - Your handles are way too short or way too long. You can either go the very hard action "mattebox grabbing" stye (Michael Bay likes to shoot handheld like this for instance), SHane hurlbut talked about it in a video, in which case you would mount handles as close to the mattebox (on a properly balanced rig) OR the very smooth way and more confortable for the operator, with longer handles, allowing the arms to rest at a 90° angle, elbows resting along the ribs. Also, you need to set your handles so your wrist are straight, or you'll be miserable pretty quickly. You can see on the video his wrists are bended all weird, not a comfortable position, especially with all that weight. - I would recommend getting a beveled shoulder pad, which allows you to actually stand straight and have your camera leveled. You can see in the video he kinda lifts his shoulder and stands a bit weird to compensate. This gets tiring really quick. - Finally, that monitor is too close. In the video, you see he has to cramp his neck backwards. This also eats your ability to perform properly on a long day. And it's just unpleasant. Hope this helps ! A rig should be just more weight on your knees, and nothing else. That's why it's so important to fine tune yours =)
Great video thank you! If you want a friction arm that you can hold a rig from and have it super tight, check out the Bright Tangerine Titan Arm. I used one on set a couple weeks ago and I’ve change my outlook on them!
Joshua Fortuna I’m gonna have to give the bright tangerine a try. Cause I’ve used so many different brands of magic arms and have always been thoroughly disappointed. So it does spin off and un tighten either?
Chadwin! I just found your channel because im looking for a BMPC 6k kit! this may be it..just want to say thanks for your video, sub'd and hit that bell! Keep it coming im tuned in!
I'm afraid, you can get problems with your vision if you look at your monitor at this small distance. If you're using a regular camera viewfinder, it's not an issue, because you can adjust its optics to keep your eyes accommodated to infinity, which is most suitable for normal vision. It could be a sign of myopia if you feel comfortable looking at your monitor at this distance. Unfortunately, I cannot see enough proper solutions to this problem on the market. What do you think about it?
Haha! I'm not sure how me and a dozen other people I know have been using the T5 for external recording of BRAW for years now then.....But for reals though, if you're having an issues, try reformatting the SSD while plugged into the camera, should fix the issue.
@@chadwin recently bought the 6k pro with a 1tb, it was dropping frames on HFR no matter what compression. Only the 250gb and 2tb are supported somehow, something to do with how they write the files . Have a 2tb now and no issues

I am currently building my own custom shoulder rig too. But for now I'm using a Cameron VS800. It works alright and got it on sale $200 off. Something to note about that rode mic is that it sounds really good in outdoor environments. I was doing a small walking scene outside and then rode actually sounded better than our Boom, because the character was talking in almost the exact direction of the camera. Inside we used our boom of course, but always good to have a quality backup :)

Blurryface that’s a great question, lemme add it all up and get back to you. Totally forgot to even bring that up...
Chadwin Smith yeah waiting for that figure 😂
Great video man!! I really enjoy these equipment videos ^^ . I just can't find the monitor mount. Is this mount from Smallrig?
Metehan Demirkaya thank you! Yeah, I found that people love the gear stuff more than any of my other tutorials 🤷🏼♂️ I left a link for the Monitor Mount in the description, it is SmallRig yes.
Chadwin Smith hhaha yeah. Gear is important, but skill is more important.
Metehan Demirkaya exactly! But for some reason everyone thinks more gear will make them better. Practice and technique are what makes you truly better though.
Final price?
what a sexy rig ! love it !
Haha 😝 thank you!
Hey man! Question, have you had any issues recording to the Samsung T5 SSD 1TB? I just bought 2 for the 6K PRO but blackmagic says its not compatible for the 6K/6KPRO.
Have you formatted the SSD? I believe the Pockets like ExFat format. Ours wouldn’t read one until we formatted it
I've never had an issue with it. but as stated above by Jake. typically formatting the SSD in camera fixes these sort of issues. i do the same thing with all my SSD's on the Ninja V as well.
how much did all the pieces cost?
Pretty cool setup 🙂
Robbie Skaff hey thanks!! 🤠
total price
[Hi there, director with two years experience here of camera op here. I do all my rigging and shoot a lot of of handheld and shoulder mounted stuff.] I'm going to say what I don't like in this video because getting an imperfect rig is going to make you miserable, and you'll tire quickly, and you won't like the end result. This is all said because I, myself, have had the same issues, and comes from a place of sharing =)
at 14:25, when he actually uses the rig is when you can see all the problems manifest. So, a quick list :
- This rig is hella unbalanced.
No EVF?
Great video thank you! If you want a friction arm that you can hold a rig from and have it super tight, check out the Bright Tangerine Titan Arm. I used one on set a couple weeks ago and I’ve change my outlook on them!
Joshua Fortuna I’m gonna have to give the bright tangerine a try. Cause I’ve used so many different brands of magic arms and have always been thoroughly disappointed. So it does spin off and un tighten either?
I have subscribed can't wait to see More video's like this.. I am also working on mine and last thing that I need it was base plate...
DAADIRI-AZ'S CHANNEL thanks man!! Many more videos to come. Best of luck on your own rig build.
Chadwin! I just found your channel because im looking for a BMPC 6k kit! this may be it..just want to say thanks for your video, sub'd and hit that bell! Keep it coming im tuned in!
David Turk hey thank you very much, appreciate the support! Hopefully it helps you decide on the best setup for your own Pocket 6k rig.
Hey! My rig is not balanced, it's heavier in the front, any suggestion to balance it?
Use a bigger battery or lay it flat instead of vertical.
It’s big but the matte box is heavy.
What short or feature films have you made?
roasted
Me encanta y ya lo quiero 😅
this is nice great job!!!!!!
MaddLabsTV/MaddVisionFilmz thank you! 👍🏻 hope it helps inspire your own shoulder rig.
Absolutely! 🎥🎬🎥🎬
The 1tb T5 isn't supported for any b-raw recording
Have a 2tb now and no issues
good job sir
thank you for watching!
Can you attach the battery grip of the camera with the cage on?
Ayush Sharma you cant use the BMPCC battery grip with this SmallRig cage. But there are some other cages built to work with it yes.
@@chadwin alright. Thank you
from a small camera we move on to a big thing.
excellent thanks 👍
cem gül thanks for watching! 🤠
I just love the way things slip or fall to the camera as they are introduced
haha glad you liked that part! it was the most fun to film
Great rig! I do something very similar but with the Tilta cage and the Sound Devices MixPre-3
Conrad Know-How nice! Tilta makes really great cages, I’ve just always been to cheap to buy them haha!
How do you mount the MixPre-3 to your rig?
thank you for such a useful video content + links
thanks for the support! I hope it was helpful for your own camera rig.
@@chadwin i see that you use on this video tilta v mount battery, but on previous video (with atlas anamorphic video) you use fotga dp500, which one is the best and which one will hold 1.5kg heavy (D&O 190Wh) battery?
Can you do a video on Audio?
I've done couple. here's the latest! ua-cam.com/video/kRxgJfoJ0sM/v-deo.html
Damn you should throw up a total cost at the end! It seems like a totally viable rig. I'm stuck between getting the Pocket 4K and decking it out or getting the 6K with barebones equipment.
6k
Go for the 6K, 100%

What do you like best for your 🎥 camera: Shoulder Rig, Gimbal, Tripod, or nothing but handheld bare bones? 🤔
shoulder rig, tripod and motorized slider (but i wish to use the real dolly).
Vinicius Galaverna nice! Yeah, a real dolly would be nice, but they’re also incredibly expensive and cumbersome. Sometimes a slider can get just as good of an effect.
Inside we used our boom of course, but always good to have a quality backup :)
handheld
The monitor mount link doesn't work for me :( That's the thing I really want too haha)
sorry, it was probably just out of stock. search on amazon for Smallrig EVF monitor NATO mount and you should be able to find it, if you haven't already!
@@chadwin Thanks
I wish I wasn't 6'8 and I could use a shoulder rig 😭
And when you wanna shot on a gimbal? You must dissamble every time or have another camera only for gimbal shots, thats'me fell crazy🤕
slashwars yeah, some disassembly is required to throw it on a gimbal, but not much actually. The camera has a QR plate so it just slides right off the rig, I unplug everything and throw it onto the gimbal. Only the top handle has to come off if it’s mounted
@@chadwin yeah so a little bit of disassembly is necessary😂(the top handle with the monitor for me), anyway thanks, I have your rig on the a7iii thanks to your video, keep it up👍🏻👍🏻
what cord do you use that goes from the ssd into the camera. i’m currently using the cord that came w the ssd but it’s just too flimsy for me
Nathan Casares I’m actually using the cable that came with the Samsung T5 as well. It’s been working fine for me so far, but there are a ton of USBC cable on amazon you could get that should work well!
I want this camera, please give it
Wow
Please don't tell me you actually rolled the lens down that metal ramp...
No definitely not. I let it roll for about 6 inches very slowly haha! even that was risky to me though.
Please show footage differences also as none of your videos has it
Shashwat Singh yes, I’m working on some new example footage with this rig! The point of this video tho was just to show y’all how to get it rigged.
Im a gay male and I don't remember seeing more handsome creature than this setup
hahahaha! Glad it has your approval. it's a great looking rig for sure
fortnite sound effect ;D 0:12
llWhiteFoxll 😂😆 yep!
DOOD!
You're missing an EVF...,
I'm not big on EVF's really, but if you wanna use one you could def easily add one here.
@@chadwin I got the cheaper Portkeye EVF. Very nice for the price!
This is really nice but I kinda cringed when you're literally making a shoulder rig with a wireless follow focus... and you put the follow focus at the top of the camera instead of on the arms where you hands are...
if you rearrange the letters in the thumbnail you get '6k criinge'
LOL imagine having money
haha! it took me a long time to build up to this, piece by piece. you can do the same over the years like i did.
None of these cameras have viewfinders or decent zooms. Must not work outside much.
I thought the thumbnail said 6K cringe
Kyle Dawson 😂😂 sometimes I swear I have dyslexia, so I can def see that!
@@chadwin XD
Pocket cameras will never be more than a children's toy.
You clearly doesn't know what you talking about :D
PJ 😂😂😂 wrong.
@@chadwin Okay, to be fair, its never going to be a cinema camera either.
Of course you can shoot a hole movie with it if you like but i wouldn't.
It's not in the same ballpark as an alexa or a venice.
It's the perfect camera for lowbudget filmmaking, commercials, but i would never choose this over a real cinema camera if i have the chance.
So cheesy
you are potentially frying your camera with that cheap lemo to dtap connector
L Angel Ramos M I’ve been using the cable with my cam for 6 months and had zero issues. It’s rated for 12v which is exactly what the battery is sending.
Did he call a CINEMA camera a DSLR, and then tile the video turn a CINEMA camera into a CINEMA camera. Whatever it's UA-cam, BTW a DSLR is a camera that has a mirror. This camera is a true Cinema camera that just happens to be shaped like a DSLR. That is why it suck for photos. It even says it in the name Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera 4/6K. But, clickbait I guess.
