    I use a mix of SmallRig, Tilta, Camvate, Fotga gear and they all work together. The notable thing is that Tilta seems to be somewhat design specific while the others are more generic, allowing easier mixing and matching. I'm a bit more partial to SmallRig gear as they offer far more accessories and, as you note, are far more responsive to making new gear. My Tilta Nano works perfectly with my rig and everything is powered by a V-lock, Nano, monitor, mics, camera and even an LED light.
    On another note, I'm surprised that so many are adding extras that make the BMPCC4K/6K wider than what they are. This really does make for a less balanced setup over one that's longer, where you can hold your arms close to your body and improve stability.
    P.S. the lip sync was off.

    I would go with Tilta just because they make robust products and their Blackmagic pocket 6k cage is awesome and can support lots of add on features. I also love small rigs clamps and other small accessories so I mix match both and make a awesome looking pro rig.

    I have built a beautifully compact and balanced rig with Smallrig parts plus a Nucleus nano (for mainly zoom use). I feel that Tilta make excellent rigs but they are more appropriate for a one camera system as their parts are quite proprietary, so if you one day change cameras most of the parts will not be able to be used on many other cameras. You hit the nail on the head with the use of nato rails, this is where Smallrig, for me, is more modular and they have every part you can imagine to help build a rig that is more tailored to ones differing needs. I see so many rigs that look so unbalanced, unwieldy and not very practical for all types of use with quick alteration for differing shooting styles. As a shooter as opposed to a gear head, I need an extremely modular set up that can be stripped down and built up in many ways for many shooting situations. Smallrig’s liberal use of nato rails, Arri connections and bar holes on cages and handles enable a rig to be built to the specific size of hands and reach of fingers, there is a solution for almost every shooting need, they will even work together with customers on a collaborative design to solve a problem. Tilta make an excellent purpose made take it or leave it solution, it would have been great if their battery and motor control handles could have been easily mounted to other cages without structural modification. I love their nano so much that I shall complement it in the future with their M system but Smallrig and possibly 8sinn will be my rig supplier of choice for the time being. 😀🙏🏾

      You don't have to buy into all of the Tilta accessories. You can also buy nato rail adapter to mount onto the Tilta cage. Both of these cages do the exact same thing and are capable of doing the exact same thing. Tilta just has a few extra proprietary parts that are useless with other cameras. But both have a ton of mounting options and it comes down to what you choose. I have both and I build using rails and rail mounts that way I can always use my parts. If a part is proprietary then I don't buy it unless I feel it's worth it. For example, I absolutely hate the small rig cable clamps for the hdmi and usb c connector and I absolutely hate the small rig t5 holder because the levers bump into each other when I turn them. So buying the Tilta ones feel better for use. I absolutely hate how the baseplate is on the Tilta Standard Baseplate because it makes you buy a expensive dovetail plate to get access to the quick release lever. But you can always buy any other base plate that you like and use it. If you end up with proprietary parts then that is because you didn't do enough research before buying.

    I get my power solutions from Tilta and grip from Smallrig. Tilta has some camera specific baseplates that I don't own or want to buy. Nato rails are also really good, some other companies such as Wooden Camera make NATO rails accesories

    The Smallrig half cage is great for compact handheld shooting except for that Glock'ish hand grip on the T5 side-handle. It just needs to be filed down for more defined finger slots and a rosette to adjust the angle.

    I use both tbh. I have the SmallRig cage for my Pocket 4K with the focal reducer bracket. It was the only good cage option back when the camera first came out. Then I got the Tilta cage for my Pocket 6K because it came with the side handle and I use it to protect my cables on the side of the camera. Pretty much it's a shield rather than a handle for me. haha! Thanks for uploading Arber. Stay safe and healthy!

    I like my SmallRig cage for my BMPCC4K. I have plenty of access points for accessories, which I'm sure Tilta has as well. But, for being a cheaper choice and equal quality in build, I stand by the SmallRig. I do like Tilta's V-mount solution that attaches underneath the camera. That is something I am considering on getting. Plus it will work with my cage. So, a win-win situation.

  • @MoseLaura
    @MoseLaura 5 років тому +2

    I would choose the smallrig because of the looks only. Tilta is just too much! But I would prefer a cage that wasn't building the camera even wider. It could instead wrap around it in the front somehow :) I like the whole package to be small!

    Great video! Question: I have the Tilta cage (Basic kit with top handle + LWS baseplate). Will any of the wooden Smallrig handles attach to the Tilta cage? I use a Samsung T5 so the NATO handle with the SSD holder would be nice. Or maybe the Smallrig Universal Side Handle? I love the wooden aesthetic and I have no need for the battery grip or the focus control stuff with the Tilta handles.
    Thanks for any help you can provide!

      Smallrig makes quite a few handles of different sizes and designs, and a few of them simply screw into the 1/4-20 holes dotted all over most cages. It’s worth just trying one out, IMO. I can attest to Amazon’s great return policies as I build up my rig. I send back as much as I keep! Maybe more?

    I like a professional look - and Tilta no does not look professional. I would never use that transformer looking equipment - prefer it simple like smallrig.
