You should be so much popular!! Couldn't have agreed more with all of your points, TOTK feels like it adds extra dimensions to BotW but I find myself revisiting it more often just because it seemed to be more cohesive in its themes and atmosphere than Tears is. I definitely need to get back and try to finish TotK though as it's still a brilliant game, you couldn't have put it better! Liked and subscribed, here for the ride to your fame :)
Thank you so much, can't tell you how much it means to have people enjoy what I do and leave such nice comments. I'll keep at it! Totally get where you're coming from in regards to the games; BOTW might not have had as many features but it felt more confident and cohesive in terms of what it set out to achieve, whereas TOTK felt like it was just throwing as much as it could at the wall to see what stuck. Then at the same time, some of TOTK's mechanics were so great that it's hard not to have them when going back to BOTW, which makes it hard to choose one over the other.
Really good video! I think the problem with TotK for me personally is that it never feels like a cohesive experience. It has a bunch of cool new ideas and mechanics that are fun to mess around with, but when I take a step back it kind of just feels like a collection of random stuff. Good stuff, but nothing that really comes together to form a greater whole the way BotW did.
Thanks so much, appreciate the kind words! I know where you're coming from, I said similar to another commenter; BOTW felt more concise in what it set out to achieve, and while TOTK was plenty of fun, you could sort of tell that it was just a bunch of DLC ideas piled onto the original game to try and justify calling it a sequel.
Thanks very much! I don't think anyone would have complained about getting a sequel but reusing so much of the original was a big risk, especially when it spent as long in development as an entirely new game usually would.
I was hoping for more of a Majora's Mask situation, where the game felt like a different thing built from the same pieces. But Tears isn't a bad game. As you've said, it does feel like a replacement for BOTW, while the old games have felt like their own thing, that could be revisited again and still enjoyed.
Yeah, that would have been great, and I hope the next game is something along those lines in the same engine. Like you said, pretty much all of the Zeldas feel like their own thing, even MM felt unique despite reusing OOT's assets, but TOTK is hard to separate from its predecessor.
Yep, I totally understand that. As much as I enjoyed TOTK, I can see why someone might find it overwhelming compared to the original. I feel odd calling BOTW simplistic but it sort of feels more streamlined and concise in its vision, whereas TOTK felt like it was tacking things on for the sake of it at points. Thanks for watching!
100% agree with you. While I wasn't a super fan of BotW it had such a good sense of adventure and discovery. Since you either had to walk everywhere or take a horse....you ended up taking several detours cuz you saw something you wanted to explore. In TotK you can just build something to fly you to your destination without any need to stop and explore. Especially since there really isn't much else to explore after spending 100's of hours on the previous game
Great vid mate! I personally despite acknowledging the issues absolutely love tears of the kingdom, and my first play through was amazing. In regards to story out of order, I always didn’t understand how so many got it out of order. It would be really hard to stumble upon the tears without the first one with Impa, and that takes you to the forgotten temple which tells you the order. If the player chooses to ignore that, sorry but that’s kind of on you. As for ending, I agree, it could have been more impactful if Zelda didn’t get turned back, but I’m a sucker for a happy ending lol. Honestly, my main gripe with the game is the lack of replayability. While my first play through is great, and I have fun when I replay, I don’t have an urge to go back and play even mid way through game. Also, while technically it isn’t as good, Botw first play through will never be topped, and still my favourite gaming experience oat
Thanks very much mate, glad you enjoyed it! I forgot Impa shows you the order of the tears so maybe seeing them out of order was my own wanderlust getting in the way, which happened a few times as discussed in the video. In an open-world game, you're free to do it in whichever order you like though, so I guess it's a difficult balance for the devs, trying to tell a cohesive story while giving the player the freedom to unlock it in different ways. Wasn't a big deal overall, though. A few others have said similar about BOTW and I'm inclined to agree, or I definitely understand the thinking - TOTK is more mechanically impressive but kind of tacks so much stuff on almost for the sake of it, whereas BOTW was relatively minimal but more cohesive and confident in its vision. It's one of my greatest gaming experiences too. Thanks for watching!
Yeah, I can appreciate that. It had some really ingenious and spellbinding moments, but it was bogged down by a lot of repetitive, tacked-on filler that took the shine off it at times. Thanks for watching!
@@Andysantiago7 Yeah, that can be a mindless, thankless task, as can cooking dishes to improve your horse. I'd probably only max out the climbing gear if I played through again.

Great retrospective! I was surprised they made a game so similar or even a sequel at all!

I loved BOTW, but I was bored to Tears with 2. I limitations and simplicity is what made it so magical to me.

Only Zelda game I played once! Game felt tedious.

@ replaying now and I got bored. The thought of collecting things to lever up my armor feels brutal
