Fi has bad writting. *Spoilers*. Sadly, the end scene with her learning emotion, feels out of place because we never see her grow through the adventure unlike Tatl or Midna.
Because I played this game with an emulator, it oddly detected my wiimote as always being low battery, and sometimes Fi would blink in a fight and I'd be like "ooh, whats new" and then realize she was just reminding me my wiimote was low on battery, again....
There's a 95% chance that the removal of Fi's constant interruptions to repeat what you just read would have been a huge improvement. The gossip stone was enough hand-holding for the game.
@@abl9643 Oh yeah that thing, totally forgot about it since I never really checked there until the near the end of the game when I was getting gratitude crystals
I came to the conclusion recently that Skyward Sword is my favorite Zelda game. In my opinion, it has the best art style, best musical score and composition, best collection of temples, and best version of Princess Zelda. I rarely had issues with the motion controls. Fi, while obtrusive, is not as bad as her reputation would suggest. I played the game in 2011 when it released and again summer 2018. Loved every minute of it both times and will play it again in the future. P.S. I have been playing Legend of Zelda games since the 1990s
Stephen Setcoski YES, I agree with you! I can't bring myself to say that it's my favorite Zelda because others have a special place in my heart for many reasons, but it might be true though... I enjoyed Skyward Sword so much. It was honestly an amazing and magical experience.
The game does get way too much shit because KingK is right if there were problems with controls it's easy to blame it on the controls as opposed to you not paying attention to what you are doing.
It’s the best Zelda game, I’ve been playing Zelda since 1990. I’ve poured so many hours into BotW, being my second favourite(exploration-wise, it’s second to none) but I’m so looking forward to playing SS on Hero Mode, which I’ve never had time to do.
Skyward Sword is my favourite Zelda game as well, though I agree with much of the criticism that surrounds it. It would benefit immensely from a proper remake on the Switch.
Sorry for the novel comment but people need an open mind with this game. And too much is overlooked in both the pro and con department. There is a HUGE problem with Fi people often fail to notice. But when you notice it, Fi is far more enjoyable. And that is Fi is 2 characters. Fi the tutorial, and Fi the actual character. When Fi is being a tutorial, she repeats things that don't need repeating, which is probably already one of the biggest complaints of the game. However, Fi the character is amazing. She starts off super robotic and only does things as she commands. But as the game goes on, she shows irritation, happiness, and relief. Not a wide spectrum but for an ACTUAL robot, pretty good. It angers me people treat systems with the same mindset when they are clearly meant to show either progression (N64 to Gamecube) or an entirely different experience. (Wii and WiiU even if its the same experience) I mastered the motion controls quickly because I was not going in of the mindset of "I'll spaz press buttons which worked well in ocarina of time" which is a mindset that SURPRISE exhausts people when playing skyward sword. I am referring to those impatient people that fight Stalfos in Ocarina. You've seen them don't lie. And to those playing in condensed spaces, I played in one too, and the realignment works just fine, and over the top motions are not required. That being said I think buttons would be better for flight and swimming. And flight could have upgrades to be WAY faster along with night flight. The story is great and I found myself genuinely caring for even the sidequest characters. They may be fetch quests but yeah, at least it leads to legit character development, and you can choose how to complete it as an asshole or a good Samaritan. (Or in the case of Peatrice technically both) And I love that. Heck there could even be an option for MORE than that. If remade, the life medals and extra heart pieces could be removed for more sidequests. I see the flaws of the 3rds and more challenges could arrive with workshopping. Imprisoned, there should only be 2 fights. Introduction, and a combo of the other 2 for difficulty. And for the love of god don't go for the toes, do the bomb stun and get him up top. Some other bosses need work. Scaldera, Tentalus, and Moldarach. Ghirahim is amazing though and I love all 3 fights front to back along with Demise. Levias should not be the only sky boss. There should be several. If the cloud barrier loosened every temple beat making more monsters appear up in skyloft, that would provide stakes. People other than Groose should settle on the surface overtime. And BOY does the game need a day/night cycle which would be beautiful. Stamina I can manage no problem, but should also be able to be upgraded to show how much more endurance Link has gotten other than health. Temples are GORGEOUS and don't need appearance change, but mechanics could be improved on. Other than Sky Keep and the sacred flame temples. Those were all spectacular. The 1st 3 temples need a bit of work. In the long run, if Skyward Sword and Breath of the Wild combined strengths, that's the perfect video game. Great combat, open world with constant stuff to do, making you care for the most remote characters, and just great variety across the whole game. Zelda has all the lessons it needs to remain the best that Nintendo has to offer.
Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword were probably my favourites. I liked a lot of the previous games and Breath of the Wild is a joy to play but I love linear stories and I think Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword really delivered something engaging in that regard.
My personal favorites list goes by personal bias, as I grew up with these. Yet over time, I grew to appreciate them other than just because they were important to me as a child. However, my childhood bias still heavily influences my favorites list; Botw Twilight princess Skyward sword Spirit tracks And wind waker. (These are all the games I’ve actually played though)
Scribblez Split All of the Zelda games I’ve played ranked, also with percent complete (until end credits). 1. Breath of the Wild 100% (1st) 2. Spirit Tracks 35% (4th) 3. Link’s Awakening 20% (2nd) 4. Ocarina of Time 5% (3rd)
@@katalbinson6562 I have played The Legend of Zelda(original), A link to the Past, Links Awakening, Ocarina of time, Oracle of Seasons, Oracle of ages (the Oracle games even if they are non canon are some of my favorite Zelda games), Wind Waker(another fave), The Minish Cap, Twilight Princess, Breath of the Wild, and Links Awakening .. I am about to buy the Skyward Sword and I am super excited to finally play it lol
@@katalbinson6562 Breath of The Wild 100%? I don't like that masochism. Twilight Princess is the only one i 100%ed, and 3 times without strategy guides. Just the Fortune Teller and Midna's help.
everything about this game was fav-worthy. my only complaint was definitely that it felt more restrictive in exploration. but the characters, music, style, story, origin ? everything blew me away
The whole back story aspect of this game setting up the Zelda, Link, and Ganon paradigm was extremely fun and interesting. The characters we feel emotionally invested in a bigger way than most other games. I agree it has pacing issues and is very linear but the game play itself was so dynamic and engaging for me I don't mind it. I did a regular play through and master mode to completion. I definitely enjoyed the game a lot, enjoyed the back tracking parts more than all of wolf link in twilight princess.
SOMEONE HELP IVE BEEN WATCHING THIS DUDES ZELDA VIDEOS AND IM LOSING YEARS OFF MY LIFE WHY DOES HIS VOICE HAVE TO BE SO INVITING WHAT THE FUUUUlove your vids bud
The Silent Realm was the most emotional and coolest mechanic in this game. I can't think of anything as stressful in the entire game that wasn't just the basic rush of fighting a boss. The Silent Realms being themed along Power, Wisdom and Courage was a really nice touch, and man does one need courage just to keep going on the very first one of these!
Yeah but you cant deny the mood that they created. I love these sections because they really show how great Nintendo is at creating mood whilst still making the world of Skyward Swordbriming with different moods and themes. The Silent realms are probably my favorite portions.
Fi was annoying as hell but ya know, when she left I cried. She was like an annoying little sister that was just trying to help, and I missed her when she left
@@dreworyan5652 yes its a sort of origins story for fi as well. she lives within the master sword and is awaken with each new hero cycle etc. that's the 'voice' zelda hears within the sword in botw
30:20 I beg to differ about Ganondorf popping up in TP. Zant CONSTANTLY reminds Link that his power was given to him by a "god" and it gradually becomes so much clearer then who that person is. Ganondorf already appeared after the 4th dungeon. We know who he is. His shit-eating grin while he's sitting on the castle throne is so satisfying to see, like seeing an evil mastermind reveal himself after diddling with the protagonist through a puppet.
Demise will always get hit by a 3 hit combo and a dodge. A regular bokoblin requires a timed, directional input. Demise is a fun boss because it dosen't test the mechanics of the game, its an actual swordfight with almost no gimmicks, which means its really easy since you no longer have the shackles of the motion controls weighing you down
Unpopular opinion: Skyward Sword is actually one of my favorite Zelda games of all time BECAUSE it's story-heavy. I love how this origin sets the stage for all the other games in explaining why everything is how it is in the Zelda games and delivers it through an emotional and deeply meaningful monomyth about a simple boy who becomes a hero not for glory's sake, but because he wants to save his best friend, whom he's grown to love. I loved how FINALLY Zelda and Link have a meaningful history together and relationship and that they actually play off of each other as characters rather than being just the Hero and the Princess/Goddess-chosen who just so happen to bump into each other on these adventures. The story and characters make this game when no other elements really do (except for the spirit realms, which while terrifying, are memorable and a breath of fresh air). With all that being said though, I definitely feel like Skyward Sword is a one-time-only game. It doesn't really work as a replayable game because it's not the game-play or mechanics that are fun or interesting, it's following the story and once you know what happens, a lot of the player's interest is lost. (I feel like the same thing could be said about Breath of the Wild since the mystery of the uncharted territory and amnesia are already solved after the first time playing through).
I couldn't agree more with everything you said (except the last bit about breath of the wild, I'm so deep in botw with not much to do I keep considering replaying it just for all the adventure)
I completely agree about the story. I love Skywards story for the most part. I feel like the opening could have been a bit tighter (they repeat themselves a bit too often) however, I love they tried something different. My problems lie with the terrible motion controls and the map design. The dungeons were cool and I enjoyed going up against someone who wasnt Gannon (even for just one game). I also cant deal with Fi. After Midna working so well in Twilight Princess, I was shocked by Fi's constant interruptions. It ruined what could have been a cool character.
I feel they could have made an intelligence attached to the master sword so much more interesting. It could have had a great character development as well. It’s a sword, a tool, created for the purpose of defeating evil. That is the only thing it would care about at the beginning, chastising Link when he takes time to help people with their troubles. As a tool it wants for use, purpose and nothing else. But as the story advances it would see and learn it has a use beyond the destruction of evil. It learns that it can be a tool for healing and renewal. Reuniting loved ones and restoring things to right. That’s completely in keeping with the themes of the Zelda series and may make the character more interesting when it pops up to say something, doing so in an impatient tone at the beginning and then becoming more compassionate as you progress. Any thoughts on that?
This is good! they could have totally done better. They already did a really good job with Ghirahim's personality, so why not Fi? If they still wanted the type of personality she has, they could have made her a stoic soldier type. It fits the sword motif, and would probably make her less annoying. Honestly thought, if she just didn't show up as much, even that would have made her so much better. I love Fi, but I can totally agree with almost all the complaints about her.
I'm almost imagining Link and Fi behaving like Eddy and Venom, having back and forth banter. Except rather than Eddy being a regular guy and Venom representing primal urges and rage, Link is a regular dude and Fi is a robotic, emotionless being only focused on the mission
I think it would've been cool if she was more of an opposite to Ghirahim in terms of personality. Ghirahim is flamboyant and over the top, so I think, as another commenter said, Fi should've been a stoic soldier type or maybe even just starting out robotic, then developing more of an actual personality throughout the game, but still being generally reserved and calculated as opposed to Ghirahim's big theatrical personality. The most personality she ever shows is at the end of the game where she tells you "Thank you," and even then, it's still very robotic in how she says it. While I wouldn't say that her robotic personality doesn't work, it's not as interesting as it could've been.
Ancient cistern is my favourite dungeon ever. The theming, the music, the boss, the colours, the iconography and it's hidden metaphorical spirituality. Amazing.
The story might just be one of my favorite parts of Skyward Sword actually; I'll admit that it's far from perect, but something about it just _works_ for me
This is one of my favourite games ever, and I could listen to the soundtrack and replay it over and over again ... but the swimming mechanics drive me insane
Honestly I just hate that people choose their favorite zelda games and proclaim that that's the way zelda is "supposed" to be. A link to the past is great because it's a refined 2d zelda game with an interesting world and secrets Ocarina of time is great because it has a great story, fun side quests, great dungeons, and useful items And botw is great because of the large interesting world and sheer level of freedom and creativity. Zelda isn't one style of game, its just zelda
@@MrTreespace he whines a whole lot,but he does bring up valid points like the waiting and block pushing puzzles, but ocarina is way more then the sum of it's parts. In my opinion the only problem I have with ocarina is that the child section is so easy that it might as well not exist.
Yeah, I make it a point not to compare the different titles to one another unless they are doing something right or interesting. As it stands though, I treat each Zelda game as it’s own thing, despite common patterns from game to game. It helps me put into perspective just how cool and interesting each game is in its own right, and really helps highlight not only the good, but also the bad and how it could be improved.
The second silent realm is where I quit when it came out. Freaked me out and I couldn't do it! Now that the HD version is coming out I'm stoked to finally kick that shits ass
because it would actually work well with the joy-cons. they have much more advanced features and im sure Nintendo could make a lot of use from the new tech. Like making realistic feelings when you miss an opening and smack your sword into a bokoblin's sword, they could make a cool metallic smash feeling with the hd rumble. Very interesting ideas here
It would be cool, except for one problem; people WILL expect the game to work in portable mode and it is unlikely people will want to move their arms around in a car... so there will have to be a non-motion control option in this Switch remake/remaster.
Fi could've been saved by 1)Less of her 2)Making her less of a robot and more of a Spock character, who's cold, calculated, insightful and struggling with human emotions
I just want her to shut the fuck up whenever something obvious happens, I also hate the bit where u get a material from a chest, then it tells you what it is like its a brand new thing then throws you into the inventory, counts up 1 and then throws you out.
13Vex It only does that once per item per session. Yea it’s annoying but really not that bad. The worst part is when she tells you exactly how to solve a puzzle in a dungeon which removes the satisfaction of solving it yourself
I Loved Skyward Sword when I first played it, but was bored while replaying it. Meanwhile I thought Twilight Princess was ok when I first played it, but have a whole new respect for it after replaying it.
I really need to replay Twilight Princess then. I've only played it once because I didn't like it as much Skyward Sword which I love. I've finished Skyward Sword three times and loved it every single time.
This was me. I did all the side quests, chests, upgrades whatever the first time I went through. By the end of the game, I was getting tired of the game after having to go back to the forest and jam it’s butt plug in for the umpteenth time. The game had some fun areas and implemented some cool ideas. I enjoyed it, but I would never go back and play it again
A Person You’re acting like you go back to the exact same areas of the forest. The only time you do that is when you go back to the sky view temple. Every other time you’re either exploring new areas of the forest or doing the part where the whole forest is flooded which is a completely different experience of the area. The backtracking complaint is completely blown out of proportion
I'm currently playing Skyward Sword for the first and i'm loving every second of it. I feel like i'm a 5-year-old kid again, discovering the bliss of gaming for the first time that i so dearly missed, all over again. In a time where most games feels more or less the same and are becoming less creative, Skyward Sword feels like a much welcome change that didn't realized i needed.
@@ThunderLord-fq7rk Screw Midna, Ghost Zelda is the best companion character in the entire series. I was so happy to see her take a more active role in the story
I honestly fell in love with Fi throughout the adventure and cried a little when she went into the master sword for her eternal slumber. Plus I love her theme😍
Big problem with Skyward Sword, leaving people that are left handed with a less immersive experience than those who are right handed by making Link automatically right handed without the option to change it with dexterity options like Wii Sports or flipping the map like what they did for the Wii version of Twilight Princess.
There is also Breath of the Wild. That game didn’t need to have Link be right handed, with the motion controls being gyroscope aiming for the bow and some shrine puzzles. And with in terms as being a character in Smash Bros Ultimate, they replaced the Hero of Twilight with the Hero of the Wild. I view any new incarnation of Link and Zelda as separate characters, making the Hero of the Wild a newcomer to Smash in my point of view. They brought back the Hero of Time with Young Link, but replacing the Hero of Twilight makes the ‘Everyone is Here!’ tagline to be a LIE!
This one has been my favorite since 2012 and I’m left handed. I even play it with my left hand with little issue. This game is definitely that good. That said it definitely should have had the option to switch which hand like they did with the interface in the DS games or with Wii sports.
I've seen this complaint a lot but there wasn't much the could do... I mean they could add an option to switch hands but do you really want to move around with the analog in your right hand?
It isn’t logical, as you’re basically putting a live bomb in your pocket. How does it not explode and kill you? Does putting it in your pouch magically put the fuse out? Absolutely ridiculous if you ask me.
You have no idea how good it feels to FINALLY find someone who agrees with me that the controls in this game actually work really well if you know what you're doing. I understand the hate for motion controls (really, I do), but SS controls like a dream if you take the time to learn the system.
As a leftie, I believe I'm in a special situation. Link had been a Southpaw from the beginning thru T.P. On GameCube. I was stoked to finally have 1-to-1 controls, then found out they... just made him right-handed... After 20 years...😢 Well I struggled, and it's super awkward. I'm really good at blocking!😁 I know it would have taken quite a bit, but I wish they had an original leftie control scheme! That's ignoring *over* 12% of us! (prolly higher, as I'm sure other lefties like Link as well!) I would have beaten it, if there was, as the awkwardness has been my reason for not wanting to play it.
KickyFut Agreed. Same thing for Twilight Princess Wii. Instead of flipping the entire game around they should've just put in an option to make Link right or left handed. Especially in Skyward Sword.
horse14t, Actually I really liked the GameCube controls for T.P. They were like the other previous control schemes, and he stayed leftie. S.S. on the other hand, (😆) was direct control, which needed the hand choice! Phill, I heard there was this new console called the SNES, has tons of games, the controller needs *no* batteries, the cable is a little short... 😜
I'm not talking about the Gamecube version (which was the version I played first) I'm talking about the Wii version. For the Wii version they literally flipped the entire game to make Link right handed to fit the motion controls with no option to flip it back to the original left handedness. i.ytimg.com/vi/cHWoLggVQTA/hqdefault.jpg i67.tinypic.com/6zlpv6.png Gamecube: gamefaqs.gamespot.com/gamecube/920769-the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/faqs/46444?raw=1 Wii: gamefaqs.gamespot.com/wii/928519-the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/faqs/46445?raw=1 It was also the first time Link was right handed, before Skyward Sword.
Cel shading usually ages pretty well. If Wind Waker and SS arent proof enough for you, look at TF2. The game is 12 years old and still looks pretty great. something about that art style just doesnt age that much.
@@nexongn I think it's the balance between cartoony and realism that work so well here. TP didn't age as well and SS doesn't go full on cartoony like WW, helping it retain more of a traditional style. With how much better WWHD looks I can only imagine what this would look like remastered.
@@zeroattentiongaming820 TP didn't age the best with graphics, but the HD version of TP was aged the day it launched. In my opinion TPHD aged worse than TP.

When i got this game for Christmas at age 5 i played the hell out of it!! The music is the best in any zelda, the story is great, link is a badass, and the dungeons are legendary
@@matthewmuir8884 Lefty here, I feel like since the Joy-Cons are identical in size and aren't connected to each other it won't be as big an issue. It'd be a nice option but the new Zelda ones don't give me hope that they're planning on doing that
@@LeopoldLitchenstein I'd argue that the joy-cons will actually make the issue worse: the wii remote and nunchuck could fit comfortably in either hand since they were both symmetrical in design; the joy-cons are asymmetrical, and cannot be comfortably placed in opposite hands, so the HD version, if it doesn't have a left-handed mode, will essentially force players to do the most precise motion-control actions in the game with their right-hand.
Okay, I definitely get the "Loftwing/Swimming Controls hurt my wrist" angle but Get this Holding the remote like a paper airplane or similarly Makes those sections 1000% easier to control and less painful
I absolutely love Skyward Sword. I've heard all of the complaints and criticisms, and while some points are valid, none of them have ever diminished my love for this game. It's my second favorite Zelda game behind Ocarina of Time.
Finally someone brings up Demise being easy if you know the controls being a good thing. Maybe it’s just me, but the fight against him being more of a showing of how far Link has come, having him brutally take down the King of all Evil in mere seconds is way cooler than a long drawn out fight would’ve been
@@megastarwarsrocks99 It's so bad that it tainted Hyrule Warriors, too. It is that fucking bad. It's one of the worst things in the series as a whole. Horrible design choice. It is never fun.
I used to feel the same until I realized you can just jump on his head from above rather than cut the toes. Made the fight much less tedious and a lot more satisfying for me.
I hate how everytime I load up a save file and collect something it always has to give me the same exact description and then showing the counter or amount that I've already collected go up by just only 1 of those items. I think that it's kind of a waste of time actually.
Dan Shen how about Fi? You have the low heart meter you can see, you also have the low heart meter flashing red, you also have a beeping sound telling you you’re low on Hearts, but that’s not enough you get a SECOND beeping that you need to call Fi so she can tell you you’re low on hearts. Same thing everytime you’re running low on batteries and by the time she starts telling me I’m low I could still squeeze at least 3 hours more of battery. Fuck this game
I love Skyward Sword. I honestly never found the motion controls to be problematic. The story is the best in the series and I love how we get to see the origins of so many things in the series. It’s my third favorite game in the series. Here’s the ranking of what I’ve played so far: 1. Twilight Princess 2. Ocarina of Time 3. Skyward Sword 4. The Wind Waker
The motion controls themselves work very well but the set-up can be hard at times. It uses the gyroscope mainly but that makes many people forget about the pointer functionality which while not used directly serves a very important secondary role. The Wii remote plus doesn't really have any way to center itself and relies on the pointer bar to do it. So you need to have the pointer bar well set up otherwise the center of the motion controls can drift. Which makes it less responsive and less accurate.
Just had this recommended, I enjoyed Koloktos I must admit I really got into the whole using the sword thing I was shouting at him through the tv that's how immersed I was, It's embarrassing really.
I definitely enjoyed all three Imprisoned fights. True, the objective is the same every time, but by making him progressively faster/more difficult while adding the Groose features, I stayed interested. Besides, even from the first encounter I felt there were a number of ways to combat him, my favourite being to use the whirlwinds to launch Link into the air, then diving onto the Imprisoned's head in real time. Doing this is a very effective way of taking him down, but if you miss the landing once or twice you're likely to lose the fight. Since this was my preferred tactic the later fights seemed to offer me more variation, seeing as he would usually knock you off his head and force you to stun him from the ground instead, while working together with Groose. Very immersive, cinematic and quite tense encounters!
In my opinion, Skyward Sword set the groundwork for alot of systems that were appreciated and even loved in Breath of the Wild such as the stamina mechanic and to some people the weapon durability and crafting systems.
Both the stamina and durability were pretty pointless timewasters in SS. I drank one of the stamina potion+s once and it just felt like how it should have been. Botw greatly expanded upon the upgrading system, stamina and durability mechanics, but they still made botw a worse game and just waste your time. Honestly it's sad that the only things that carried over from that great game were all the bad mechanics
"You can shield bash Demise." ... ... ... GOD DAMN IT. I spent 5 hours on that fight, dying and dying over and over. Oh well, on my next playthrough I'll make use of it!
BBHowey Doesn’t the thunder dragon specifically tell you that if you beat the boss rush he’ll reward you with a very strong shield? Or something to that effect
People are dumb. Like, really really dumb. They generally really can't grasp new concepts, that's why motion control was so hard for so many people (there's the left handed and disabled people problem tho but that's another topic)
@@matthewmuir8884 I'm left handed and never had any problems. The motion controls just arent complicated enough for that to be an issue if you have any amount of dexterity. The issue is probably your tv or where you had the sensor bar, or something.
The motion controls felt really great.... when they worked. In my experience it seemed like every few minutes or so I would get that error msg and have to resync my wiimote. It was annoying enough that I didn't finish the game out of frustration. In fact, this and Zelda 2 are the only main line Zelda games I haven't played through.
For the longest time I wasnt able to stab. I could do everything else but not actually stab. this wasnt a problem until the mining facility where i wasnt able to beat the boss through no fault of my own. I quit at this point
Same sort of thing happened with me in Spirit Tracks because I couldn’t play the Spirit Flute well enough to get past the last/next to last section of the game. Just couldn’t get it to work. I really hate that too because the rest of the game was pretty ok.
Daniel Bailey I had the same damn problem. I can’t remember if I somehow ended up beating Moldarach with 3 hearts in the 20 minutes before the error occurred again or if I went out and bought as many health potions as I could just to get it over with.
Personally, I never got an error message. I did have one problem (probably due to the fact a liked to play relatively far from the screen), the cursor seem to go slower than my movements when dowsing or going through menus.
I found this channel by accident.. I saw the length of your Wind Waker Video, watched it and instantly fell in love with this series and your channel! Please do not change!
"It's refreshing coming off the very obtuse progression of Ocarina of Time which at one point requires you to bomb a goron in the goron city for a fire tunic, no one tells you to do this nor are you ever expected to bomb a goron before this point." While I may agree on most points made throughout the video, you are incorrect on that one because of two things: 1-You are never required to bomb the son of Darunia to get the goron tunic, you are able to purchase it from the goron shop for 200 rupees. 2-A sign in the goron city tells you that you able to stop the rolling goron to receive a prize "If you can stop my wild rolling, you might get something great. -Hot Rodder Goron" This however, refers to when you are a child, stopping this rolling goron gives you the upgraded bomb bag. Seeing this as child Link, might make the player think of a few things. With their limited inventory they might try standing in its way or shooting it with the slingshot, or using one of the bombs that are scattered through the city. Nobody tells you to "bomb" it but a creative player should be reasonably expected to be able to figure it out. So thinking of a creative player that explored the world reading and interacting with the signs and npcs, it should be reasonable to expect that they will be able to remember bombing that bigger goron and receiving the bomb bag to now bomb the smaller one for another prize.
1. While the first point is technically true, the Goron shop is not open in the future until you talk to this goron, so a new player who didn't get the hint to use bombs to stop him would be forced into walking all the way back to the Temple of Time, change back into a child, walk all the way back to Death Mountain, get the rupees necessary, buy the thing, then walk to the Temple of Time AGAIN, change into an adult, and walk back to Death Mountain AGAIN. That sounds like a beyond tedious and painful thing to do in a Zelda game (or any game for that matter). This also doesn't even account for the fact that they would have had to figure out how to get the wallet upgrade. 2. You said a "creative" player should reasonably be expected to figure it out, and I suppose that's fair. As someone with quite a bit of experience playing games, especially from the 90s, Ocarina of Time does hint at the solution quite well, albeit in a sign that is easy to miss for people who are impatient. But what about the "non-creative" player? The six year old who's playing his first ever video game and has little bearing on how videogames even work? I know a lot of people who gave their kids some older games, and their kids are absolutely terrible at basic critical thinking. Hell, even some of my older friends who I gave Ocarina of Time to had little idea as to where they were supposed to be at times until I gave them hints myself. You could say we're spoiled nowadays and that makes it our fault that we expect too much hand-holding, but I don't think that accounts for all of it. At least some of the blame has to be put on how the game itself handled these things and how they didn't age well compared to modern standards. Breath of the Wild tells you next to nothing about puzzle solving, yet all of its puzzles feel organic and can be solved rather simply if you just contemplate your options or pay attention to the environment. Most of Ocarina's puzzle solutions are hidden in text boxes that take minimal effort to find, and very infrequently can you ever get a solution by paying attention to your surroundings or context clues.
When I played this on the Wii when it first came out, I turned it off when I got the slide puzzle and never turned it back on. I just finished a full play through of the HD remake and I remember why. After getting the master sword, there is a ton of content that feels pretty pointless and tedious. I remember feeling so exhausted at that point, that I just didn’t have it in me, and I had grown so tired and disinterested that I wasn’t drawn to turn it back on. This time around I stuck it through. I’m glad I came back to watch this because you reminded me of the things I liked - overall great dungeons, great items, and some fun boss fights. But the last half of the game makes it difficult to remember some of its best moments in the first half…
I love these videos and I can't help to wonder how this guy's English teachers must've loved his essays because he does such a great job a structuring and presenting his analyses
It is a good game. Objectively speaking, all 3d-Zeldas are good, compared to the most games out there. I think Zelda games are at times unfairly compared to other Zelda games only, even though there are tens of thousands games in the market for comparison. I would say the metascore 93 is quite on spot for this game.
The Hidden Link So do I. There's some filler stuff in it, but I really enjoyed it. Excellent dungeons, sweet story, best version of Zelda herself. Great game, if a flawed one.
this game was pretty garbage, and I'm a huge fan, since the first game back in the 80's, the only Zelda I couldn't find myself to finish. Too repetitive, nothing really new, and the controls were ok, at best. But the most terrible flaw.....it was just boring....and that's unforgivable.
So here I am, after having bought the game on the switch last night. I’m actually really intrigued on how they adapted the motion controls into analog. I never got to play the original and am looking forward giving it a try. I’m going to try and play through all the main games in the series before BOTW 2 releases.

This was my first Zelda game as a kid and I loved it. For me, the motion controls let me pretend that I was actually fighting which was amazing to me at the time. I see why other people might not like the motion controls. When I was little, this game both terrified me and amazed me. Looking back at it, I still love it and hold it as my favorite Zelda game.
I honestly can't believe how quickly you upload these high quality analysis videos. I rarely ever comment on videos, but this has to be the exception. The videos you've uploaded so far have been stellar and I look forward to watching all the content you produce in the future. Keep up the good work :)!
Skyward Sword was my first zelda game and it was so much fun it got me into zelda, twilight princess was my second game and is currently still my favorite
My biggest problem with the Zant twist was that there was no buildup for it; it came in out-of-nowhere at the last-minute (and that's because it *was* put in the game at the last-minute). Ghirahim, interestingly, solves that as well: there is a lot of buildup to the reveal that he's the Spirit of Demise's Sword much like Fi is the Spirit of the Goddess Sword: his clothes have a diamond pattern like Fi, he has zero mention or appearance in the opening narration despite being Demise's second-in-command (but Demise's sword makes an appearance), and before the last battle with him, he refers to himself as, "A demon- nay, a *weapon,* without mercy!" as he briefly turns into a sword and back again.
My opinion on the controls of this game is that they are good, really good, but that they have a steep learning curve. It's much easier to master a tradition button mashing combat system than one that you have to actually move your entire arm/hand correctly. I have found that I thought I was moving the wiimote a certain way and then looked down and realized that I wasn't actually doing it the way I though I was, especially with the stab attack. Also, my auto-correct tried to correct "wiimote" to "Wikiquote". Just though that was funny.
To be honest, I barely keep the information you say in the videos . But that goes with nearly rvrty video to me at least. But your silky smooth voice gets me entranced

There's a big difference between jokes that are distasteful and tasteful, necessary and unnecessary. Try seeing it from the point of view of the deaf person. How many times do you think a deaf person has been told or asked to try not being deaf "jokingly" knowing they can't even if they tried? Or wished they could hear, only to have other people make jokes like that? It's different when you're the one with the disability. If you can't see that, you're probably not very funny. Good humour takes empathy and understanding. Oh, and if you really think that you can't be a dick if you're joking, you're objectively wrong. There are plenty of jokes to be made that make someone a dick, be it because of the context the joke was used in or because of the joke itself. Have you ever struggled working on a subject in school, say math, asked for help only to hear back "can you try being smarter and understanding this faster"? Is that funny? Is that helpful? Nah b. And that's with something you can actually change (unlike a disability). Get over yourself and don't group me in with others when you didn't even think about what you're saying.
I didn't mind Fi, the back tracking to each region, the imprisoned fights, and the sky at all. The game is also the game for Zelda's 25th anniversary. Thanks for the opinions on it anyway.
Skyward Sword is a masterpiece! One of the best videogames ever! Beatiful colorful graphics and incredible sound, a magical adventure that remains in your memory for ever. I truly love this game so much, because it`s so incredible.
For some reason, it seems like Link speaking in Skyward Sword would’ve made sense, to give him a bigger character and for people to like his relationship with Zelda.
"You can't have a situation where you think you're pressing a button and you're not actually pressing that button." Sounds like someone hasn't played many fighting games.
I played this game on the switch with a pro controller and I honestly loved it. If did not feel obtrusive and while the repeat locations weren’t great, I didn’t mind it too much, like they changed them and you explored different portions so it wasn’t too bad. Loved the story. Groose is awesome
the game could age like fine wine but the console and its wii motes likely wont, motion control technology is likely to degrade worse than any controller would
I finally was able to beat the game this past week, the motion controls really were that much of a deal breaker to me. I got the switch version and absolutely loved the game though. The revisits to each area without much changing I wasn't too much of a fan of and would've liked more to do in the sky or just more side content in general. Overall though I think the best addition skyward sword brought to the series was without a doubt it's charming story and characters as well as the ability to upgrade items. The shield was something I particularly liked too, each shield more or less having a use and not just being weaker version of eachother. Wood best used against electricity, steel best used against fire. The sacred shield is the unbalanced one imo, I would've kept the idea that it was the most fragile but taken away the regen aspect and have it's main gimmick be curse resistance and no weaknesses to elemental attacks. The hylian shield is amazing as is since it feels like an earned unbreakable and perfect shield, botw could have learned from this.
I think the cutscenes are actually a really valuable addition to the game. While it may be annoying to watch them if you’ve already played the game and remember the storyline, I think they add a ton of emotion to the game that makes you much more attached to it than you would normally be. I also think the sky is a core part of Zelda games-all of the previous ones have some sort of open area hub you need to go through, and you travel through it in different directions. There’s the great sea in wind waker, train tracks in spirit tracks, so on. I think they did a good job condensing the sky so it’s less frustrating/repetitive than the great sea or hyrule field is.
I remember my motion plus disconnecting and Link would randomly run in a direction until I managed to make it work again. I tried everything to fix it but it happened so often, I stopped playing.
Standout Music that was left out in this retrospective; Faron Woods Theme Skyloft Theme Knights Academy Theme Groose's Theme Fi Singing is also nice but don't tell nobody
The only thing that annoyed the shit out of me was the backtracking and revisiting and redoing over and over and over and over and... you get the idea. It even got that significant for me, that I stopped playing when I had to fight the Imprisoned for the , third time. I was literally done, i closed the game, and threw it in a corner and finished it something one year later. I honestly couldn't stand it anymore. And this annoys me even more, since the story and roots explained and hinted was awesome, the music was brilliant but aside that... doing the exct same things constantly borders on insanity. Propably the only Zelda I'd hesitate to buy if there'd be a remastered version, since my personal issues with the game would be still in this game.
I had a similar experience with N64 MM. I hated the save system and my cartridge tended to freeze up, making it that much worse. Despite that I could see the appeal of the game but couldn't bring myself to redo a section because my cartridge froze and I hadn't bein able to save in ages without a reset anymore. It took me ages to get the remake despite loving Ocarina 3d and generally buying every Zelda as soon as I could. The changes to the save system have left it my favorite Zelda now. Unfortunately SS doesn't have a single easily fixable problem weighing it down. It's unlikely a remake could fix it without a huge overhaul.
I feel like the motion controls have a mixed reception because various room sizes can cause it to have issues. I know when I played it the shield bash almost never worked, and as a result I had to adapt my fighting style accordingly. Similarly, the delay that I experienced between my actions and the results of those actions was so delayed that often times even when my action was read correctly, by the time it connected the enemy had changed positions and it neutralized the whole thing. On top of all of this, there was the ridiculous amount of times my actions were read incorrectly. I can't tell you how many times Demise killed me because the wiimote wouldn't register my skyward strikes. If I were in an environment where the controls functioned properly, I don't doubt that I'd enjoy the gameplay a lot more than I did, but since following the instructions the system gave me didn't actually help with that, I really don't know what that would entail. As far as the characters, I never actually liked Groose or Girahim. I thought that Groose was an annoyance that constantly tried to steal the spotlight while very rarely actually doing something worth while. He left me thinking if he'd been cut out of the game it would have saved a lot of time. As for Girahim, his personality just felt like it was weird for weird sake, without any actual purpose behind his character. There was potential to thematically compare him to Fi, as they are both sentient blades being used in this conflict, but since Girahim spends most of his time fighting Link rather than interacting with Fi, this potential is squandered. On the subject of the art style, to be honest, I don't like it. It lacks any personality or depth, instead seeking to strike a balance between two existing styles in an effort to make everyone happy. However, as a fan of both I feel like this choice undermines what made either one of them unique and interesting, instead bringing out the most bland and dull graphical experience to date. As far as the prequel aspects of this game goes, I don't think that the lore it adds to the series was all that necessary. The reincarnation cycle introduced here undermines a lot of the gravitas of the actions taken by the various other Links and Zeldas throughout the games, not to mention what it does to Ganondorf as a character. Before he was an ambitious, power hungry man as a result of his kingdom's circumstances, leading him to become the wielder of the triforce of power and conqueror of all the land, not because he was possessed by some evil spirit, but because he earned it. Originally Ganondorf had to earn the triforce of power. He had to put time, effort, and resources into making it happen. But in Skyward Sword, it is revealed that Ganondorf was just possessed by Demise, the essence of all evil everywhere. Not only does this take away from the work that Ganondorf would have needed to put in to get the triforce of power, but it also makes him, in essence, a non-character, as we never get the chance to see Ganondorf independent of Demise's influence. This makes him a much more two dimensional villain than what has been presented up until this point. I could go on about all the things I didn't like about the game but at certain point it just becomes knit picking. Overall, this is my least favourite of the 3D Zelda games and the only one I actually dislike. There is nothing about it that appeals to me, in terms of story, gameplay, characters, or aesthetic.
Shurue: Exactly, I also hated having to constantly recalibrate my Wii remote. The aiming mechanics would of been much better if they used the sensor bar like they did in the Wii version of Twilight Princess. Flying the Loftwing was a pain and not fun. The unnecessary tacked-on motion controls for swimming is unforgivable. Also way too much backtracking for padding. Dousing was not fun and a pain. Also Fi is just really annoying and useless. This was a Zelda game I really wanted to love but it ended up being my least favorite 3D Zelda game.

This thank you and if you know zelda lore you pretty much already j rw what hod zant was talking about
"Demise is much easier"
Said on one heart
My thought exactly
I kinda hate how it's story is told pretty much all through cutscenes. I'd like some more interactive storytelling.
It ruined what could have been a cool character.
hey beautiful, we should talk and get to know each other.
Imo it had some of the best dungeons and boss fights.
The game I'm working on has a similar idea

Honestly I just hate that people choose their favorite zelda games and proclaim that that's the way zelda is "supposed" to be.
A link to the past is great because it's a refined 2d zelda game with an interesting world and secrets
Ocarina of time is great because it has a great story, fun side quests, great dungeons, and useful items
And botw is great because of the large interesting world and sheer level of freedom and creativity.

It would be cool to have a remake on the switch
because it would actually work well with the joy-cons. they have much more advanced features and im sure Nintendo could make a lot of use from the new tech. Like making realistic feelings when you miss an opening and smack your sword into a bokoblin's sword, they could make a cool metallic smash feeling with the hd rumble. Very interesting ideas here
finally confirmed for 2019. Cool
*Remaster. A Remake would be recreating the game from scratch. I think what youre talking about is a remastered HD port for the switch
K. eN dude. Fuck off
It would be cool, except for one problem; people WILL expect the game to work in portable mode and it is unlikely people will want to move their arms around in a car... so there will have to be a non-motion control option in this Switch remake/remaster.
Fi could've been saved by
1)Less of her
2)Making her less of a robot and more of a Spock character, who's cold, calculated, insightful and struggling with human emotions

For skyward sword, it did not have much replay value. Even with hero mode I didn't feel like finishing.
@Lanturn thank you finally someone who I can relate to
A Person You’re acting like you go back to the exact same areas of the forest. The only time you do that is when you go back to the sky view temple. Every other time you’re either exploring new areas of the forest or doing the part where the whole forest is flooded which is a completely different experience of the area. The backtracking complaint is completely blown out of proportion

I feel like i'm a 5-year-old kid again, discovering the bliss of gaming for the first time that i so dearly missed, all over again. Big problem with Skyward Sword, leaving people that are left handed with a less immersive experience than those who are right handed by making Link automatically right handed without the option to change it with dexterity options like Wii Sports or flipping the map like what they did for the Wii version of Twilight Princess.
Good Point Brandon.. I think This is the Only Zelda game that Link is right handed....
I'm left-handed. Never bothered me one bit... I think it would be more awkward controlling analog movement with my right hand.
Best addition to Skyward Sword: being able to put bomb flowers into your bomb bag.
Wow
Never bought a single bomb. Great feature

I think the sword controls fine, but boy do I hate swimming in this game.
As a leftie, I believe I'm in a special situation. Link had been a Southpaw from the beginning thru T.P. On GameCube. I was stoked to finally have 1-to-1 controls, then found out they... just made him right-handed... After 20 years...😢
Well I struggled, and it's super awkward.
KickyFut
Agreed. Same thing for Twilight Princess Wii. Instead of flipping the entire game around they should've just put in an option to make Link right or left handed. Especially in Skyward Sword.
horse14t,
Actually I really liked the GameCube controls for T.P.

Steering the beetle with that damn wii-mote was the bane of my existence. That's the reason I hate those frigging motion controls.
I love Skyward Sword. I honestly never found the motion controls to be problematic. The story is the best in the series and I love how we get to see the origins of so many things in the series. It’s my third favorite game in the series. Here’s the ranking of what I’ve played so far:
1. Twilight Princess
2. Ocarina of Time
3. Skyward Sword
Yeah I always enjoyed them...
I'm glad you talked about Groose's character arc and development, It was really wholesome and dynamic.

"It's refreshing coming off the very obtuse progression of Ocarina of Time which at one point requires you to bomb a goron in the goron city for a fire tunic, no one tells you to do this nor are you ever expected to bomb a goron before this point."
While I may agree on most points made throughout the video, you are incorrect on that one because of two things:
1-You are never required to bomb the son of Darunia to get the goron tunic, you are able to purchase it from the goron shop for 200 rupees.
Well said
Well said
@@skellsskells OOT definitely has stupidly obtuse things you have to do for progression.
The shop isn't open until you bomb him.

The Silent Realm was the best part of this game. By far one of the most memorable moments.
Hey I'm deaf. Can you enable the captions?
I know that this comment is a bit older Samir, but have you tried contacting him through Twitter? The link is in his channel info, and his follower base over there isn't huge, which means that you should have no problem contacting him :)
Can you try not being deaf?
Totally kidding. Lol. Aren't there auto-captions on all videos?
Samir Jain hi dad
sunfeatherX3 the auto-captions are usually terrible. No need to be a dick, even if it was a joke.
Masterpiece...yeeeaaah....
Fun Fact: If you click newest comments first, 90% of the new comments are “Who’s here after they announced the HD version”
That’s exactly what I did lol
Really hyped about the Switch remaster after re-watching this!
wasnt planning on buying it but after this idk
For some reason, it seems like Link speaking in Skyward Sword would’ve made sense, to give him a bigger character and for people to like his relationship with Zelda.
"You can't have a situation where you think you're pressing a button and you're not actually pressing that button."
Sounds like someone hasn't played many fighting games.
You only get that kind of feedback after pressing several buttons in a specific order though.
The lava ball boss was one of my faves honestly.
I played this game on the switch with a pro controller and I honestly loved it. If did not feel obtrusive and while the repeat locations weren’t great, I didn’t mind it too much, like they changed them and you explored different portions so it wasn’t too bad. Loved the story. Groose is awesome
Also the imprisoned sucks
See, skyward sword is like wind waker. It just needs time to age like fine wine.
after BotW you can really see its fair share in the Zelda Cycle, how it does dungeon/boss design and story way better than BotW did
the game could age like fine wine but the console and its wii motes likely wont, motion control technology is likely to degrade worse than any controller would
I finally was able to beat the game this past week, the motion controls really were that much of a deal breaker to me.
I have no idea how the hell you manage to pump out these hour long analysis videos once a week, you cray cray man. Looking forward to watching this
I remember my motion plus disconnecting and Link would randomly run in a direction until I managed to make it work again. I tried everything to fix it but it happened so often, I stopped playing.
Standout Music that was left out in this retrospective;
Faron Woods Theme
Skyloft Theme
Knights Academy Theme
Groose's Theme
Fi Singing is also nice but don't tell nobody
Hi! I'm from the future. Playing skyward sword with an analog stick is how I'm playing now. Loving the game!
Ghirahim is best boy
Ghirahim is male??!?!?!
Ashra
Yep, he is. Ghirahim is a dude.
@@playaskirbyandwin267 technically he's neither right as he's a sword
And I know I was joking
"Molderak feels like a miniboss" ...It IS a miniboss
Isn’t it the dungeon boss?
@@shanecorrigan8524 It's a dungeon boss that later gets re-used as a mini-boss, like the chuchu in Minish Cap.
It's literally the 3rd dungeon's boss dumbass.
when i was younger, i’d come up with alternate routes to traverse the sky because the tornadoes that would pop up would scare me so much. needless to say, this video gave me buckets of nostalgia.
