I know you scrapped the rats, but what if instead of them spawning when food is dropped, a rat just drops down on a very slow random timer to throw in some chaos? Then an upgrade could be to "call an exterminator" to stop/slow the rats spawning. Loving the game so far 👍.

Lore wise, we can say that the flood event is the smoke detector going off by accsident, and you have to turn it off before the fire sprey water everywhere. The upgrade can be "fixing the smoke detector"
I have no idea how 'overcooking and burning the food' can be implamented, but if it does, the flood event can be tied to that instead of happening just randomly

Honestly what I think is happening here is that the rocket is breaking the pots, not the player. They already have that property when launched and it would make sense why flying over the pots breaks them easier, because the rocket is in the player's hand.

@@eclipse4507 That doesn't make any sense, why would an item in the player's hand change anything?
The only hitbox here is the player's, which can trigger target blocks and break pots when boosting with rockets, it doesn't work when just flying normally. The reason they're breaking a lot of pots when flying over them, is because they're hitting a bunch without losing the boost.

maybe if you're still thinking of inventory as an aspect, you could have, instead of the rats, a "health inspector", an event that occurs with some warning, where they suddenly have 30 seconds to make sure there is nothing on the floor. then you send hopper minecrafts under and if they fail, they lose. so they can use the floor all the want, but if theyre using it too much, itll make the health inspector's visit a nightmare

Or perhaps that's when you release the allays. Call it a "deep clean" and name the allays something like "Robot Vacuum", as if there's some sort of scheduled cleaning of the restaurant that's going to happen whether you're ready or not. From what I've seen, allays are quick enough at grabbing items that you wouldn't want them loose in the restaurant all the time, but some sort of timed release and then noteblocks to recall them back out of the kitchen could work.

I think the siren should sound more like a smoke alarm, the law could be the flooded kitchen is done by the sprinklers going off. The smoke alarms go off because the extractor system in the kitchen malfunctions. One player has to step on the pressure plate in the kitchen to stop the sprinklers activating while the second player has to go outside to repair the extractor system.

In case you hadn't found it yet, the door shuddering is due to a pulse shorter than four ticks from the redstone torch.
The first pressure plate stays on for a bit after you step off it, and de-powers just before you step on the second one.
The torch isn't on long enough to fill the entire loop of comparators, resulting in an errant low running circles around the loop, until either the extender fades out or the torch comes back on.
The easiest fix would be a four-tick repeater between the torch and the pulse extender.

I'm a chef in a restaurant and some things that trick us up or cause some confusion are when: a customer changes their order, there needs to be an alteration to a set recipe, food gets burned or spilled and needs to be remade. Obstacles are a very big issue with workflow and precision. I know you've already decided to get rid of "mess" mechanics. Slippery floors also cause problems, but then you'd have to change your flooring. Recently my restaurant's freezer decided to quit working on us so we had to limit our menu and quickly move the more important items to a chest freezer. Basically, anything can and will go wrong at some point and could be used as a game mechanic. One thing that could be added as a mechanism is "prep work", the preparation of food items before meal time. This could be converting sugar cane to sugar, butchering the meat you need for the day (Minecraft terms here), or other various multi step processes you can get ahead on. You could use this as a limiting mechanism, so the player could only use "x" amount of meat, where "x" is the amount of meat they have prepared in between day cycles. Naturally take or leave these suggestions, the game looks great as is!

  • @ChubbyGodchild
    @ChubbyGodchild Місяць тому +18

What about instead of stopping people from throwing things on the floor, make it so that the items get misplaced. A hopper minecart underneath the floor for collection sends the items it collects to a random dispenser in the roof where it would then fall down to a random spot in the restaurant. An upgrade could stop the minecart.

@TangoTek2 For the flood warning, a good way to thematise it would be to make it a kitchen fire: a fire is dispensed on a block, smoke alarm goes off, and if they don’t extinguish it in time (observer), the sprinklers will go off (flood valve).
I think the changes are good, easier to balance this way and more instinctive gameplay.

    For the furnace upgrade:
You could maybe make it so that if there is something in the furnace that needs smelting, you add 1 piece of bamboo to it automatically on a timer.
That way there will never be more than one piece of bamboo in the furnace at any given time. So even if the players in the next round do not have the upgrade and there is a piece of bamboo inside the furnace still, it's not enough to smelt anything because you always need two pieces.

for stopping the flood... one player has to stand on a pressure plate in the kitchen that directly opens the outside door so the other player can "turn the dial (compass)". the (piston) door could take 10 seconds of standing on plate to work and closes intantly when you step off. If they step off too soon, they have to wait the 10 sec. again. Ecourages teamwork and comunication. player A, "are you there, did you do it"... player B, "hold still almost there, don't get off, you'll lock me in the room... ok, I'm done, I'm out, get back to the cooking"

  • @ArtThingies
    @ArtThingies Місяць тому +4

53:47 you could use a shulker. If you turn it so it opens "outward" relative to the game area, you can "lock" it by putting a piston in front of the "top" of the box, since you cannot open shulkers whose tops cannot move. That way, you can literally just unlock the box when they get the upgrade - no draining required.

I'm not sure if you have already solved for what you want to do, but honestly I think one of the big things about plate up is only having one inventory space, and needing to put things onto the tables in order to do multiple things. You could set up tables with item frames and have players fill their inventories with sticks to be down to only one space. Then you would have to throw items at your feet in order to craft so you pick each item up as you place it into the crafting table. Additional inventory spaces could also be an upgrade players could buy.
Its been so fun watching you problem solve and slowly tweak the game into something you're proud of. I would say I cant wait to see how it all turns out, but I think the journey may be my favorite part. I guess I need to watch through all the Decked out 2 vods!

Idea for "grease on the floor" without "rats":
    - Bottom slab floor.
    - Below are sticky pistons that push soul sand below the slab floor.
    - Maybe have it at common spots like you had the clank detectors or the max clank waterfalls so it interrupts/slows down even if you can avoid it.
    - To "clean up" you could have corresponding "cleaning" buttons (button press sustained, similar to farm door etc.) for each spot. Maybe even a central station for all of them. Similar to a fuse box.
    - "Traps" are triggered randomly so people can remember the locations but do not know when etc.
    - "Traps" can also be (some of) the water columns you already use for the "reactor overload" event
    Upgrade possibility:
Light up lamp above the corresponding button when "slowing down" is active for each. That way people can just keep the fuse box in view and deactivate the "trap". Also they do not have to remember/call out which trap it is each time.

One aspect of plate up that I always liked a lot, is the automation side of the game. I feel like that part, especially in the later stages of the game was a big portion of the streams, time wise. The thought process behind creating the most automated and ideal kitchen was always exciting to me.
Maybe that aspect could be added. There could be a dedicated kitchen automation room that has ingredient drop points in the walls, these have to be inaccessible without using hoppers (conveyers) and could all be unlockable one by one using upgrades. (think decision making of which to unlock for which recipes) Hoppers could then act as conveyer belts, crafters could be the processing stations and so on. Players could purchase those building blocks and maybe there could be a random shop (similar to the decked out card shop) that opens after each round giving them the purchasing option to acquire those kitchen parts. Players could build up their automatic kitchen for some of the harder recipes, so how they build and layout their auto-kitchen would influence the game a lot. After each game they'd have to tear down everything in the room and drop it into a sorting chest. They would only be allowed to built and break blocks in the one dedicated Auto-kitchen room with a pickaxe on the wall. One flaw I see with it, is that the ingredient drop points can be gamed by unlocking them, purchasing the first hopper (conveyer) and thus gaining access to the ingredients quicker. Maybe that could be solved by building the room much farther away than the normal ingredient drops already existing in the game and let the automatic drops be much slower and thus only be helpful for non stop automation. Oh and maybe there could also be a Redstone power plug in the wall as the only source to get a Redstone signal that can be turned on and off during the active day/game and then only giving them Redstone and repeaters with some blocks and no other way of powering the crafters except the plug in the wall. That way you could influence the crafting speed, unlock more power sockets, upgrade faster pulsing power sockets and so on. Non technical players would learn much more about building redstone automation and the technical players would try to create the most optimal auto kitchen, there would be different layout metas emergering with time and so on.
I really liked the balance of frantic serving days followed by laid back hard problem solving during the purchasing and building phase. Plus I feel like the actual building part added a lot of pressure to the actual serving the customer aspect, because now you would have something you built to loose when not serving them fast enough and thus raising the pressure more and more the more you've already invested in building your kitchen.
I'm probably missing some crucial aspect of this that would be difficult to solve but I also really like the idea of etho trying to build the ideal kitchen, more redstone with bdubs and all the hermits that discovered redstone for themselves already within this season 10 of hermitcraft. This could also be a dlc after the game already launched.
This might just be some silly idea, been watching for a long time and never commented but really enjoyed everything you've been doing.

Someone mentioned putting a ladder for people to climb into the barn to disable the flood. I like the idea of using a ladder to get to the pressure plate on the inside of the kitchen. Adds some verticality and you can play it as "going up to the roof to unblock the guttering" or something!

  • @brookebrite

When you mentioned the bone tree, it made me think of the co-op robots from Portal 2. Like imagine if the lore was you were clones and each night you got crushificated into bones for the bone tree lol. Only to wake up as a fresh clone in the morning lol. That would be a very different vibe from the current cutesy farm aesthetic.
One upgrade might be access to a water source outside of the well, since going down to the well takes a long time. Maybe instead of a kitchen cauldron, the walls retract to reveal an infinite water source, like a metal trough. I was wondering, can folks take water bottles from the pass-through farm to kitchen water stream system? It is a source block.
Another upgrade idea: One time when you would have failed / lost the game the signal gets blocked and you get a second chance to keep going. Sort of like hazard block or a party popper. You don't get the serving points, but your game isn't over either. Or maybe a once per day customer re-roll. If the customer has a trash order you don't like that's either too hard or too easy kick them out and get another chance.

Tango, the thing that's breaking the pots is not you crashing into them, but the firework.
The mechanic is that fireworks break pots. So when you're flying & into pots while having the rocket boost, the rocket destroys the pot.
I don't know where the rocket hitbox is compared to the players hitbox when used with the elytra, but i'd guess it's not at the head. So you first crash into the pot - causing damage & trying to stop you - but in the same tick the rocket destroys the pot.
You basically get Schroedingers pot. It's there, so you get damaged, but also not - so you don't lose your momentum.
I'm certain on the first thing (rocket destroys pot), but the second (Schroedingers pot) is just guesswork

You could have the redstone lamp flickering because the chest freezer is on the fritz and that's why food gets thrown away at the end of the day. Then if you upgrade the freezer the light is solidly on and food stays in there the whole time.

Suggestion for the furnace upgrade: you could have either:
    1. Furnace detects if there’s an item and automatically puts a single piece of fuel in
    2. Give the players a single dried kelp block/ coal block.
Both options have the benefit of never having excess fuel. One downside to the second is that the burn time might be either too short (players might need extra fuel in the round) or too long (players could cheese it by starting to cook something in one round and having the furnace still going in the next), but it is less complex than the first to set up.

For the plumbing, to make it so you "spin" more than once and actuallu feel like turning a valvr, you can put a comparator with a redstome line, then put an observer watching the line. Behind the observer a dropper facing another dropper to make a "counter". When turning the item frame, the observer would detect the changes and start emptying into the other one. When it gets emptied, it outputs a signal. To trigger another flood allert, just spam the other hopper to reset. If you want to make it harder or spammier, you can periodically trigger the receiving dropper to give back some items, so it takes longer to turn the valve.
Alternatively, if you want even more chaos, make the valves trigger the floods instead of it being random. If they take too long to spin the valve a couple of times, the receiving dropper empties and the flood triggers. Than the alert would be when the items are about to run out. It would encourage a chaotic "did you turn your valve?!" dynamic, since both valves would need to be turned to avoid the flood

Maybe it gets said later, but: what if at the end of each day, water would be dispensed to move all items on the floor into a fire, or the items could be counted to then trigger rats the next day

i feel like theres 2 types of games u can end up doing with the flying and the pots. one is where its all stacked up to a wall and hermits can purchase x amount of tries or rockets to smash them - it's kinda like a darts and balloon wall at a carnival. do it all in a row and u win a prize.
another is the one where u line them up in a long line, and see which hermit can smash the most in one go.

It can’t stay in the furnace between games, and players will be incentivized to batch their cooking together

Make a tiny 2x2 "basement" behind a door; the second flood pressure plate is down there, in the "boiler room". Put the stairs to that basement behind a door that can only open from the one side, ala the freezer. So both have to step on the pressure plates to avoid the flood, then the upstairs one still has to let the basement one out again.

In that case, to clean up between rounds maybe just drop lava to burn up any items left behind?

I think there should be a few “bad” upgrades available at the blueprints table, that way it adds more cost to the gamble.
Bad upgrades could be literal negative effects, give the players additional tasks, or just be cosmetics (bad as in no mechanical benefit, opportunity cost)

I'm imagining that the time between end of day and starting of the new day, the customers are already pre-equipped and they are just standing near to the queue so when the day starts, the customers can immidately comes in instead of waiting for over 30 seconds for them to arrive (or could have some sort of delay system that gives them 5-10 seconds before they come in)
another thing is that for players reaching certain high score, give them a price like a chef hat that they can wear outside the game (and ingame if they bring it with them on the next run)

I think what's happening with the door spamming is the following: You stand on the pressure plate until the clock has run out, and when you go through the door there is only a short time for the torch to turn back on between the first pressure plate releasing and the second one being pressed.
The torch then sends a short pulse through the clock that doesn't activate all comparators and instead just travels around them until it expires.

    Tango. Two great game observations.
The special customer could be a random drop in from above the food critics is the high point cake order with lower patience but not game ending if he leaves. Might drop in multiple times a game.
Second observation about customer patience decreased each day that would mean all good players will fail on the same day where it becomes impossible to serve in allotted time frame leaving differences in score up to the rng of customer orders
