- Jak & Daxter, Sly Cooper and Ratchet & Clank were this trio of iconic Sony mascots back in the day. Ratchet & Clank seems to still be going. Sly Cooper not so much as for Jak, it seems to be the worst case.
Sly Cooper 5 has one thing in its way, Sony's approval. Jak & Daxter has two things, having a new team and Sony's permission. It seems that the series is dead until a new team decides to pick it up. Naughty Dog in short, is no longer interested.

To be honest, I'm just upset that they would throw away such a perfectly built world and technological-magic system. Though my favourite out of all the games is Jak 1, Jak 2 and 3 are so perfectly rounded in their level of comedy and seriousness. The games are very adultswim-esque. I would love Jak 4, there are so many questions and possibilities to be answered and applied in this sequel. ND is soulcrushingly wasting such priceless potential for their dry in substance "Movie" games. If I go to EB Games to buy a game, I expect my purchase to be a game not a MOOOOVVIIIIIIE
in the Jak 3 guide book it mentions that since the catacombs were now opened it would only be a matter of time till Gol and Maia would find a way out. i was always hoping they would do a game about that. other than that i never found another reason to make a game

I personally think the 4th game could revisit time travel and Jak could start building Haven City. The story could go as follows:
They start in Spargus, where a strong red eco crystal was found in an excavation site, formed by strong volcanic activity, which will become the Heart of Mar. After they find it, they try to build another time machine so Jak can build Haven City and fulfill his destiny. But the crew could think it might be a good idea to prevent the metal heads from ever getting to Sandover Village, and Keira starts building a new time machine. You start gathering ressources in the future and bring them to the past while fighting off Metal Heads.
The whole crew could help building, and problems further in development could arise, so you travel back to the beginning of the production and fix that there. Basically, like in FFXIII-2, you could have missions across different stages of Haven City's construction and you can travel freely with the time machine.
That's just an idea I had, but I would love that to be a game.
Honestly they should just sell it to someone else if they don't care about "kiddy games" anymore. What is the problem? They are clearly not interested, preferring to go for generic gritty bandwagons of present day gaming, so just give it away to someone who can put it to good use. Its still a well loved series, so why not have someone who actually cares for these games and put them to good use? I still see many potential in it, even if a sequel isn't exactly necessary. I'll take Jak and Daxter over The Last of Us any day.

FrostSplashStudios Its pretty sad honestly. This used to be one of Playstation's hottest game back then along with Ratchet and Clank. Then the cursed that was the gritty age of gaming took over and overshadowed some of gaming's greatest gems as developers jumped ship. If Naughty Dog wants to stick with The Last of Us, then fine, they can do what they with it. But don't leave a beloved relic of the past collect dust for all eternity when there is demand for it. Give it away to someone competent enough to do their job and problem solved. If Sucker Punch can do it to Sly, and Insomiac can do it to Spyro, then there's no excuse for Naughty Dog to not give away Jak to a company who'll keep its legacy going. Honestly if I had been a Jak fan back then, I would've left ND once they turn their focus to the Last of Us. I honestly couldn't care less for that game no matter how good everyone says it is. I hate Zombies and I don't like gritty looking games that are basically overglorfied movies. Uncharted maybe, since I like adventure games.
I can't tell you how much I would love to play these J&D games. I only grew up with Ratchet and Clank and Sly Cooper, and had plans to purchase it for my PS2 until R&C Future: A Crack in Time came out and I forgot about this series. Its only nowadays with the release of the first Jak game that my interest resparked in this series.
If games like Ratchet and Clank can go on for 15 years and counting, why not Jak and Daxter in the ownership of someone else? Hell, Zelda is still go strong at 31 years and isn't slowing down. If Naughty Dog would stop making lazy excuses and just sell their unwanted product, problem solved. Jak and Daxter is in the hands of devoted developers and they can continue on with their movies-I'm sorry, mature video games.
Nayru of the Zoras I completely agree. I wish we could get a band of people to message Naughty Dog about why they don't just sell it off. We most likely wouldn't get a response because that's the type of company they are, but at least it would probably get them to see it. I have an idea as to why they don't and it's probably because they want to keep milking money out of the series to put towards their other games. The series, that's being put out once again on the PS4, is probably another chance for them to make some quick, easy money to help fund another, unneeded Uncharted game.
I say let Insomniac or Sucker Punch develop another Jak game.
Yeah, they should have another company work on it if Naughty Dog isn't willing to. I agree with VTNVIVI with the fact that Ready at Dawn should take over. They did a great job with Daxter, so maybe they'd do a good job with a Jak 4. On the other hand, Daxter is over 10 years old now, so we wouldn't know if it would turn out well today...

Honestly, the biggest reason why I want a sequel to the Jak games is the insane amount of potential when it comes to the gameplay. They can do so much more with the Light/Dark powers, the Jet - Board, the Morph Gun and more. It's so crazy, there are almost endless possiblities.
I don't know what they can do with the story. The only thing I hope is that they stop focusing on Mar and move forward like Jak X did.
With that being said, sales matter. And the Jak games sold worse and worse as time went on. (except for Daxter, which is the best selling game of the entire series)

I though you might have brought these up. Initially, I thought this to be true as well, but if you look, there is no listing for Japan for Jak 2, but according to this link on Naughty Dog's official website, it says that Jak 2 won them an award for selling over 1million copies in Japan.

You know, with Yooka Laylee, Knack, and the N. Sane Trilogy, there seems to be a resurgence in mascot platformers in the making. Maybe they'll do a remake of J&D in the future and people will make remixes of songs with Daxter's quips, who knows. I don't think it's buried in the mud, though.

I'm a huge fan of Jak and Daxter and I always wanted to make the scatter gun and the Blaster gun from Jak 2 I love the lore in Jak and Daxter the precursor all of the Eco the precursor orbs the power cells everything I love about the history of Jak and Daxter the precursor voices when you go to an oracle one of my favorite voices in the game
Bro I'm 17 and a Jak fan and I think ND not making a sequel to Jak 3 or a reboot to the franchise is alright. What I like most of what they did with Jak was that they matured the series from a kid friendly game to a edgy game for teens, I would not mind at all if ND took a realistic approach to Jak and Daxter but I think I would like Jak 4 a lot if it followed more of the style of Jak II and Jak 3.
Realistic is really not necessary, that is not what made the series great. Look at R&C, never went ''realistic'', always kept that cartoony style and people love it.

You come out of the assumption that a reason for a sequel is STORY.
Even though Ratchet and Clank 1, 2, 3, and Deadlocked did NOT have cliff hangers. And all had sequels. Remember Spyro 2? And Spyro 3? And consider Syphon Filter Dark Mirror in 2006: a brand new entry in a series of 4 games with no cliff hangers. Games are not movies, the reason for a sequel is NOT story resolution; the reason for a game sequel is A NEW ADVENTURE. New levels. More gameplay.

Why would it be necessary to bring a sequel today? Old games back then sold enough to convince the publisher to bring new games, new adventures as you said.
Because of the attention to detail and the crazy capabilities of new gen consoles. Think about if this game series never started. And they just started working on tbe Precursor Legacy TODAY. Dude, that game would be top notch, all we're asking for is more of the same with better physics, graphics, and more adventure. With nowadays technology they could easily make this into an Open world RPG and even have multiplayer/Online capabilities. But they won't do it because of "numbers" and that they'd probably lose money. Which, to me, is bullshit, I have yet to play any of the Last if Us games, stopped playing uncharted after the 2nd but would've bought (preordered) a Jak 4 the second I could. I'm still checking the ps store everyday for the remastered Jak 2, its all I can think about playing. I beat the Precursor Legacy 100% in 8 hours and I need more. They need better advertising towards the Jak series and more incentive to keep coming back. GTA for instance keeps releasing free dlc constantly. You have to pay in game money, but that's the incentive to keep playing. They have the funds, the crew, the tech, and the research to make this series come back and come back successfully.

Since Naughty Dog tried and failed bringing back the series, the chances of a Jak & Daxter sequel is impossible. From what the Last of Us director said, he wasn't too sure if the team was making Jak 4 for Marketing reason or trying to make something that isn't Jak & Daxter related
With that, we need a new team.
I think the idea of creating a vibrant universe with unique lore, stories, designs etc. Then creating a boring realistic "zombie" game or a realistic adventure game, is so disappointing. The games they create are fine. But there's nothing there, no creativity

The reason I want a Jak 4 is because, at the ending cutscene of Jak 3, the ottsel leader said "You have turned the tide against the dark makers, and together we will win this war" which is implying the idea that the Dark makers are still a threat, maybe Gol and Maya are leading the Dark makers. The surfer ottsel also said "there are way more challenges in the future" which brings me to ask what challenges will he face? That and Jak said "I couldn't leave you Dax, with all our adventures ahead, you wouldn't last a second without me" and that leaves me asking what adventures?
Hmm maybe the precursors showed Jak the future! He saw that there's more threat so he had to remain with Dax. I also think Gol and Maia should return, ND actually had hinted at it in the official guide of Jak 3. Unfortunately, never came to fruition.

I'd actually really love to see Jak take on a gang war following the story in Jak X. Maybe it could follow Gol and Maia trying to pull and underground takeover and you end up, begrudgingly, having to work together with Rayne to stop them.
Well in my opinion we do need a Jak4 . Jak3 was telling us that they got many adventures. And what does that mean? Jak4. It's pretty much is a cliffhanger to me. They need to explain why is jak not going out with keria. They need to fix their fucking story man. They just left room for another jak game . They need to give us a clear answer is jak the mar or not.
Ratchet and clank is different, they had a lot of games. I just don't under stand how do they leave a great game like this. If I had the rights for jak and daxter I would work on their story. You're not man, I feel you. I grew up loving both Ratchet and Clank and Jak and Daxter. Ratchet and Clank kept up their end and kept making games, Jak was their only rival/competitor, once they stopped Ratchet and Clank soard higher than before. It's really sad that ND still hasn't made a new Jak game with the next gen capabilities, so many things are possible for this series.
Supposedly they scrapped the in progress Jak 4 for whatever they were doing a few years back because they didn't really care too much for the art style the Jak series was known for or something. They wanted to move ahead with more realism and incorporate that into future games rather than fall back to the anime-ish style of the beloved Jak series.
That and apparently no one really cared to continue working on the series despite there actually being a cliff hanger (which they tried to appease us with Jak X: Combat Racing which they later admitted wasn't even cannon to the series and thus handed it off to I believe Insomniac? Who later went on to make Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier which is up in the air of whether or not it continues the plot from where Jak 3 left off, which most doubt it does.).

NTG360 The fact that they were working on Jak 4 at some point tells us there was still a story to tell. I believe it had something to do with Mar. They just decided to scrap the entire Jak 4 project to jump on the zombie bandwagon and made The Last of Us instead.

Jak 3 had a great ending... I believe everything good has to come to a end at one point and Jak is one of those things... rule number 1 to making a good series *DONT MILK THE SERIES* Let it run its course and once it’s done it’s done... don’t keep it going if you don’t feel the passion or have run out of ideas 🤷♂️.

Most iconic games are the 4 platformers sly, Jak,crash and ratchet, legit I didn't even know the uncharted series until no.4 came out
You play uncharted finish it, you never play it again or maybe a few times, you finish Jak and daxter you replay it and never get old
I think the Jak 3 story would have been stronger and more exciting if Gol and Maia were the main enemies trying to summon the Dark Makers. Erol could have still been an enemy, but he would only be the KG leader and maybe a foot soldier for the Acherons. Their motivation makes more sense than him. Veger is okay, but he's one of those characters they write as if he's always been in the story even though he wasn't.
This goes off from my own desire to see the original trilogy's undercooked lore and plot tweaked to its full potential.
A re-imagining you say? Yeah, if they do remake the first game, I'd like them to dive deeper into background lore.
A good story would be him attempting to break the time paradox, with a sub plot of maybe taking out Gol and Maia in a 2nd battle, which would explain why they never were in 2 and 3...His older self made sure they didn't come back.

I have always loved the thought of a Jak and Daxter game where they go back to the past to the point of the arrival of the metal heads. Jak and Daxter help gather the sages and warriors to battle off the metals heads, start mining precusor metal and technology from the precusor basin and the lost precusor city which starts to develope Haven Cities Walls. It would connect seeing Samos' old hut on the outside of Haven.
It could either Hint Jak disguised himself with his real name Mar to the sages, villagers and even the lurkers (they make a peace treaty b/c of the metal head invasion, but someone crosses them eventually having them in the slave trade.) Or Jak makes sure his ancestor to the Mar dynasty survives long enough to develope the city.
All while we see how the beautiful world of precusor legacy is destroyed by the metal heads, collecting sources of all eco and precursor metal to have the wall built. Keira can be the head tech of the machanics. She could develope weapons, the eco shield wall (with the aid of the other sages).
Maybe its just my passion of the game but i can really see someone with similar passion could take this game and go far with developing and producing it. The cherry on top would be all origonal voice actors.

I'd say that Jak had the best fate of the bunch, Sly is still in egypt and Ratchet and Clank have come down with a bad case of sequelitis. Do we really need a Jak 4? I'd like to see it, but more because of the fun gameplay instead of the story, and that that makes me lean toward spiritual successor rather than a straight up Jak 4.
which is why Ratchet & Clank is more successful its all about the gameplay, the story is simple and has great humor, while they add new gameplay to each new game and new lore that doesnt effect the main story or the characters.
Would ND make that spiritual successor? Nope. I could imagine one by another developer.

Jak and Sly are both underrated.
Jak is definitely the most underrated because there's nobody left who shows the right interest in continuing the series. Andy Gavin and Jason Rubin were with Naughty Dog since its founding in 1984 (back when it was called JAM Software). They left the team after Jak III came out, and so did many other staff members that had been around for that long. People who worked on Math Jam, Ski Crazed, Dream Zone, Keef the Thief, Rings of Power, and Way of the Warrior (which are all the games Naughty Dog made before they started the Crash Bandicoot series) all left Naughty Dog at some point. The number of people who worked on Jak and Daxter that still there now that we have The Last of Us are so low, I can literally count them on my fingers. Almost nobody who worked on Crash is still there. Naughty Dog is completely out of the equation right now.
Sly Cooper is holding at a better status and fate than Jak and Daxter is because the Sly movie and TV show are simply struggling to come out. The movie even got a trailer released. As for Jak, however, the movie that was being worked on is very obscure and never even came to the point of trailer production. Both movies got canned by Rainmaker, and Jak has no more media coming along that is known. Recently, I saw an announcement for Jak 4, but it was a hoax created by someone who vandalized PlayStation's front page.

I'd like a soft reboot at this point. I think you could make a game given its lore. But having watched all the cutscenes, the dialogue feels rather dated. I'd love a fresh coat of paint with the same loveable world & characters. Needs the same love that Toy's for Bob gave to crash4.

To be fair, there is material to work with for Jak and Daxter. They could explore more of Daxter's dark form, or even him being a Precursor more (Perhaps he could get powers similar to what we saw from those other ottsels). It could give him more depth and allow him to help Jak out more. They could even explore more of Jak and Daxter's friendship this way. Keira becoming an ECO Sage is something else that can be explored more, perhaps to the point of her playing a bigger role, or even becoming a playable character. Whether Jak is the original Mar or not could also be explored of course. If he is Mar, they can get into how he formed Haven City. If he isn't Mar, what if there was time travel involved to meet and even train under the real Mar? Or at least fight alongside him?
I definitely think there is a lot to work with for a sequel here.
Jak definitely still has potential, we just need a new passionate team!

Rather than pushing for Jak 4 we should push for a series reboot/remake. Naughty Dog is done with the series. Trying to get a new team to continue their story is almost certain to fail since the teams will have differing visions for the game. It just wouldn't sync up with the rest of the series. Reboot the series and let a good studio build it from the ground up. I'd love to see a rebooted Jak and Daxter using the power of the PS5.

Remember the Ratchet and Clank reboot? Remember Halo 4? Some things should be allowed a peaceful death, they shouldn't be dragged out of the grave like the Simpsons. It's better to remember it fondly than to resent what it has become.
R&C still has a story which I'd love for them to cover. Other than that, a crossover should come next :P
VTNVIVI Ratchet and Clank had a story to cover, but they through that away when they made a reboot instead of a sequel. I don't think the rebooted game is strong enough to have make sequels. I'm not against them making a J&D sequel, or a reboot for that matter, I'm just not sure they can do right, and I'd really hate to see a whole new generation's opinion of the series be spoiled like that.

I think a Jak 4 game would be a great game. Is it necessary idk. But there is so much you could do with it, you could tell the story on Mar and is Jak Mar and all that stuff. You could explore white eco and its powers maybe have Jak be the Sage for it like Samos is the green eco Sage or maybe we could have Daxter become human for a time but have to choose to become a ottsel again to save the planet or something idk or care really (having Daxter become human would be cool because that is why Jak and Daxter adventure kinda began, to find gol and turn him back into a human or whatever species they are) you could have Gol and Maia come back. I don’t really know if another game is necessary for the story but it could work.
I bet if the Jak and Daxter movie ever happened (which let's face it it'll never happen) it'll come out in 2089.

13) What exactly happened to the metal heads? "they died off" seems rushed and not exactly right, since there were metal heads in Jak X, and since we didnt know about a whole god damn city, what else are we missing?
14) Are there any more dark makers? Since their appearance and the descriptions of what they do was kinda setting them up as an universal world eating enemy.
15) What happened to Haven city after Jak 3-X time period?
Not to mention the epic proportions a J&D game could have in current hardware. The setting is perfect to have a wide, wide variety of environments, enemies, populations, groups, gangs, activities....hoverboards, hover racing, combat racing, a lot of shooting, flying, inter planetary travel, time travel. Jesus, even god damn parallel universes wouldn't be that farfetched in a setting like this. The potential to have a game that completely smashes the bullshit we have been getting in the last 10 years is immense. An epic adventure, that isn't 50 shades OF BROWN AND GREY, in an other wordly setting, were there is conflict but at the same time beauty and lightheartedness.
There is enough material to expand Jaks' world....we got a buttload of new places just for racing, imagine if we got them for a regular J&D game.
I think a Jak 4 is necessary because the question about Mar has plagued my mind for the last almost 15 years. Say we discover he is Mar and we incorporate time travel and the creation of Haven City. That has potential for great combat and puzzles. I do agree though that this needs to be a special dedicated team because Jak and Daxter is a series that needs to be done justice even though the canon story has been in hiatus for over 10 years
the way i see it, there could be two new jak games, one could continue after jak 3 with the mar stuff, and the other can deal with Krews daughter Rayn from jak x, that story had unfinished business , and it would be awesome to explore Kras city on foot rather than just racing in it

I don't think Jack and Dacter 4 is necesary, what i think is necesary is more games alike, because now videogames companies are stuck with more realism and doing more things that give profit in the past once and another. IRL is the worst videogame ever, and its like everyone ultimate goal is imitate it in videogames. The commercial developers today have 2 principal problems one lack of imagination and pasion for the products, and two they got their heads very stuck into their ass. I am the only who remembers that jak 1 was pg 13 and jack 2 and 3 were pg 18. Anyone that calls an art style "childish" because it does not reasembles the reality should not criticise or develop games. Fantasy based art as i like to call it is more dificult and requires better people to make it because you don't have references to do it, you must do everything from scratch. We do not need another jak game, we need capitalism to die to videogames can develop without thinking in profit. Commercial games are suffocating the indie ones.

That's tragic how hardcore Naughty Dog abandoned Jak and Daxter. Sucker Punch may have moved on from Sly Cooper, but the games they've made since Sly 3 have a lot of the DNA that was in the Sly Cooper series. Infamous gave you big open hubs to traverse and explore in a variety of ways. And their new PS4 game Ghost of Tsushima looks like it'll have open world stealth and action.
All of us should start to work as game designers at Naugthy Dogs Studio just to fullfill our wishes :)

At this point the only hope for a good Jak 4 is if ND gives another company permission to do it. Otherwise, I don't see it ever happening.
The thing is that unless some really good storytelling is involved, there cannot be a Jak 4. The most realistic thing I could see would be Jak's adventures in time travel with the precursors saving the universe before being time travelled back to the present right after he supposedly left. Either that, or a proper remaster or remake of the Jak trilogy as one cohesive masterpiece like the treatment crash and Spyro got. The plot of the Jak trilogy is over, and although a Jak and Daxter game is still possible, it would never be a Jak 4.

Hey I love all Jak & Dexter game..I play all 6 of them.. it was weird how they made racing and flying planes game but I still like them. I'm sad and mad they never made another game but I still one day hope they or anyone do...

absolutely true man. I have several quesitons. Is the jak trilogy on ps4? My cousin wants to buy it, he has loved it since he was 2 years old. Jak 3 did end on a inch of a cliff hanger, NONE like sly cooper. But it would be epic to see jak 4 as a thing. But naughty dog has moved on to more sadder and depressing things. "The last of us" and "Uncharted". I would be more loved in a sly 5 than a jak 4 because it has a bigger cliff hanger. Although jak and daxter is my favourite out of the three, my cousin sent me down sly 3 and i fell in love after i waited a year to find it and play it from boredom. SO sly 5 is a bigger thing but jak 4 can still live while everyone thinks its dead

I wouldn't want Neil Druckmann to be involved as a creative director in a Jak game. That would've ruined the game. I'm glad it didn't happen. I would prefer the right creative director to be in charge of the game (idk who would be the right one, but it's definitely not Neil). Neil messed up with Uncharted 4 in my opinion because honestly it didn't feel like an Uncharted game most of the time and it had too many slow/boring moments. Neil should just stick to his own games like The Last of Us if he's going to be the creative director. For any game not created/invented by him, he should not be sticking his nose in as a creative director in my opinion.

Jak ended with dignity, there's nothing wrong with that. I gladly accept the quiet nostalgia we live with today as long as it doesn't mean seeing the slow and greedy decay of a franchise I love.
I could not bring myself to care about the Ratchet games after the PS2 era and I hated the ending of Thieves in Time.
I know I am late but I don't think we need a sequal.. Call me crazy but I thing a re-imagining would be the best for the series, a sequel could kill the series completely, a re-imagining too but it's less likely. Just imagine if we had ONE game with all the important stuff which are on the first three games, as in you are in the past where the first game is taking place, daxter becomes an otsel you go find someone who can help you and then suddenly you fight the master of dark eco (forgot he's name lmao) and then a portal opens, the four characters decide to go inside. Jak gets captured by Baron Praxis he is doing experiments on him and then Daxter saves him. They join the ressistance and kill him, after that it goes on with the story of jak 3 BUT ONLY STORY RELEVANT STUFF you can leave the or some car sections out and boom... The fans are gonna HATE IT because what I just said is complete nonsence, here is what we need: A brand new Jak and Daxter that is KINDA like the first but also like the second and has ELEMENTS of the third, kinda like the new Ratchet and Clank because besides the thing that Ratchet and Clank almost don't interract with each other at this game and the game should be called Ratchet and Quark, it's a good game. JUST GIVE ME A REBOOT!

ND made a huge world with great history and very good plot for jak and i think the world they made has more opportunities to make another great plot even with another hero, it has not to be jak . IT IS necessary to make another "cartoony" game in this world .

Gol and Maia come back and become more powerful than ever(they are frozen in time until someone discovers them or something) and Mar comes back to defeat them. But they were too powerful for him and he needs help from JAK and the gang. JAK and mar meet up/encounter with gol and Maia and they realize JAK is alive somehow.

I love Jak series from Playstation I the way I would do it has a new team from Sony to make Jak 4 but have it where Jak-3 plus jak x combat racing on PS4 so people can buy it on disc I would put one of E3 trailers then I would have the next trailer be a tease of Jak 4 from a new team working on the game thats how I see Jak 4 then if people buy the game then at the end of Jak 4 they can make new games and spin-offs for Jak games.

Personally I think a lot is left unaswered i have not played the last frontier or MUCH of jak x ik jak x is after frontier but anyway. There is a lot to work with for another sequel I would love to see a short game surrounded around the development of Haven City like how would they build it with a mass amount of metal heads around and all that's explained about what happened to Sandover Village is it got attacked by metal heads i wanna see a battle of metal heads and kg soldiers, i wanna know what happened to the sages what happened to the citadel what made all the jak one creatures die out eg the vast forms of lurkers (ik there was a massive slavery event with lurkers but why aren't there lurker snakes and shit)
