Good video man. I’ll share my opinion since I am THE speedrunner of the PS4 releases. The limited direction input can be a pain in some parts but I can adapt to the movement like how you adapted to the input delay for PS3. The frame rate, I am already used to it again after the new patches and I don’t mind it that much because I understand that it’s emulated. For those who want to ask, I use a PS4 Slim and I’m on NTSC.
I personally want Jak and Daxter along with Sly Cooper to go in the route of Crash and Spyro with the HD remaster collection with polished up mechanics. Considering the imports to PS3 and PS4 are hardly remastered in HD in my opinion. I get it's cheaper to save time and money, but I would love it if companies went out of their way and actually did this so the next generation can experience it and give long time fans a return to a rich underrated series.
I would definitely be down for a Remake of those franchises, but they'd have to be done as similar as possible to the original in terms of gameplay. I've heard from several Crash people that they didn't enjoy the new installment as much as the old titles, simply because they had slopppy controls.
@@BoomerStreams really. I thought that a lot of people enjoy Crash N Sanity trilogy, and although I haven't played a single Crash game my whole life except for Wrath of Cortex and a mobile racing game, I had no idea what made people enjoy those games. So I gave it a shot and boy am I not too fond of the games, mainly because the controls are such a mess as well as some enemy AI, items, collectables and obstacle placements. I get that with imports comes changes, some good some bad. And I haven't got to the PS3 and PS4 version since I still have the original and didn't know if I wanted to get them plus I don't have the PS4 console. I do have a PSP version which honestly I didn't get much out of.
Yes! I totally want a remaster of the first Jak and Daxter! In fact, I’ve long wondered what the series would have been like if they hadn’t gone with the time travel route...
I don't understand how the ps4 can have the worst version possible. They've released the game multiple times. Yet they can't get it right? Just incomprehensible
It's got to do with how old media gets ported to newer systems. You can't really understand it until the people who worked on it come out and explain the whole process to you. I'd be really curious to see what the process is about, but I can imagine it to be a load of technical stuff, which would be boring and uncomprehensible for the common player.
@@kaylokiller Of course they could, but that would take time and money. And just as Boomer said, they already got the money from the fans, so they wouldn't gain much from it.
The thing that saddens me more than anything is that, for a lot of people in the future, the PS4 version will be the only reasonable way many people will be able to experience the Jak series so they will just settle for it. The most inferior version of these classics will be the most easily accessable and preserved for later generations because they dont produce PS2s and PS3s anymore. It didnt have to be this way. Jak deserves a lot better. Naughty Dog is a company that just abandonded Jak, and its kind of disrespectful to the fans how they come out and half ass the trilogy and X because just the thought of Jak remastered on PS4 would sell like crazy. If fan demand was that high and they really had to release these, why not take feedback from actual gamers who have played these games for like 17 years and put some time and care into one of your most beloved series of all time. But nope, thats too much money, they are probably too busy trying to make puddles in The Last of Us 2 look realistic right now lol.
The thing is even if they try to do something like a PS2 Classic Mini, there's still a huge probability that it would screw this games up, since they'd work similarly to how the PS2 emulator present in the PS4 does. The PS1 Classic is the perfect example of this. Which is extremely sad because the only way to play this games how they were intended to will still be to just use an old PS2 even in the years to come. I honestly feel very blessed in beign able to have replayed the Jak games on my PS2 this past month, I'll always treasure these with jealousy.
Well put man. It's sad to see this series just be forgotten. Great gameplay and an even greater story. Naughty dog is shit now. I dont care about their mainstream games. They are what they are because of games like jak and daxter
Yeah right now is a dark time for playing these classics and the only current and updated way to play these games is playing that shitfest they call a port of the Jak collection on PS4. They decide to incompetently emulate the original ps2 ports in the worst way possible. It's shame to know that it's predecessor system ran a solid 60fps, that's pretty much dead today. Everybody knows about the emulators problems but it seems there's hope for rpcs3 getting better in the future sometime. I would've appreciated it if somehow the ps4 was backwards compatible with ps3 games, or if they just put it on their PS NOW subscription but even that way.....meh...
Vander Silva Neto Forreal, it‘s not even that bad. It has some frame drops here and there, but what do you expect from emulation? Especially on something which isn‘t nearly as powerful as a pc. Perfection? Literally every PS2 game for PS4 has issues, because it‘s not native.
Then there's the punch glitch where Jak will go in a random direction every so often rather than consistently forward every time. Not game breaking, just annoying.
2 years on, I greatly appreciate this video. I only recently bought the PS4 remasters on PS5, and the camera controls, directional input, and crashing are all things I've noticed firsthand, and was surprised by. I thought that my original playthrough was just misremembered, and that I had just gotten over the issues when I was a kid. How wrong I was! I'm very thankful that this community and your channel exist, otherwise I may have just put up with the problems and treated things as if they were worse than I'd remembered. Much love, mad respect! Peace!
Also for the record, I have all 3 copies on PS2 and a working PS2 and CRT TV, as well as the PS3 remaster and the Vita version of the trilogy. So I think that encompasses all of the purchasable versions of the trilogy? From my experience, the frame rate in Jak 1 was quite poor on the PS3 and Vita, but that could just be my memory melding the 2 together. Vita in particular would make a lot more sense when it comes to performance.
Well you could say that the ps4 version isn't much of a remaster, but more of a modernization because of how glitchy and patch heavy the games are. Just like games that are coming out recentally :D
I have a feeling the PS5 will be able to play this version, if that’s true it means this is Jak and Daxter’s legacy version. This is why I think Naughty Dog wanted this release... it means all their games are available on PS4 and beyond.
PS5 should atleast have backwards compatibility to all previous consoles, if not I'm done with Sony. It's hard to say but I grew up with PlayStation and when the PS3 came around my love went downhill.
I got the bundle around 2 weeks ago because I never played any Jak or Daxter game. So far I’ve complete Precursor Legacy and it’s in my top 5 favorite games, can’t wait to play the rest
Okay, unrelated to the bugs and everything, but I would absolutely LOVE to see the Jak and Daxter trilogy get completely remade on PS5 like the Crash N' Sane trilogy with gorgeous new graphics, fix legacy bugs, maybe even add new content like skins for Jak and Daxter. It'd be great to see this in the near future considering the series' 20th anniversary is in 2021.
I think most of this is really just nitpicking. If you have a ps4 and don't have a ps3 or ps2 go ahead and buy this because it plays completely fine. I platinumed every game and had little issue with any of them. The only issues coming up being ones that i already had when i played them way back on ps2
The PS4 version is just a lazy PS2 port. I love the first Jak and Daxter probably my favourite from the franchise. The PS3 HD remasters we're actually pretty good. I recommend to all to play the PS3 remasters instead of that broken PS2 port bullshit, atleast optimize your emulation to run it properly Sony...
@@BoomerStreams yeh yeh and my first jak game was jak 2 in 2nd grade 2009 and I'm so glad it was cause if I got jak 1 or 3 id be bored af and not be curious and want the others. But what was yoir first jak title?
Most definitely! That and the Krimson Guard chase OST. I used to listen to that back when I was still in Highschool doing early morning jogs before school.
@@sepulchurr o yes I loved it still do but I would be scared af in second grade when I would hit a krimson guard and the music would play id be like feck and go hide in the water area in a flying car behind one of those huts
Sometimes I redownload jak and daxter on my ps4 and then when I turn the game on and start playing... I immediately delete the game and pretend I didnt get my hopes up lmao. The ps3 version is the best version.
For my limited understanding It's really taxing playing PS2 games on any system that obviously isn't the PS2 itself. The emulator has to actually recreate a PS2 system on a different device, so the actual work that the console ( in this case ) has to do is emulating the operating system and on top of that run the game in it. That as can you imagine, can cause a whole lot of problems
Yeah emulating this game was a nightmare waiting to happen. It a system that is hard to emulate and the game that it's trying to emulate a game that has programming code that was used for only these 4 games. The coding was so complicated even naughty dog told Mass media the ps3 version was going to be an almost impossible project. I don't even know if the ps2 emulator emulates the ps1 processor which naughty dog used for the jak engine.
I've seen a few videos going over how the bundle was nothing more then a simple cash in before the release on PS4 but I didn't think Sony could screw up these games in the way that they did and it is really disappointing since this could've actually been the best way to play the games nowadays but instead they just threw in whatever they could and just went with it. Great video and it goes over all the right points. 👍
this game made my childhood. I just love it it was the best game I ever played it made me so happy it was just perfect. i remember playing that game with my mother (she also loved it) and omg she said she will give my 1 Euro to buy ice stream if I make it to the 2. level (that water level). i cant explain how good this game is. The music everything was just perfect and the atmosphere everything was innovative and the Story was so good you Could Write a Book about it. sryfor my Bad englisch but this game made me so happy and no game Could do so nowadays My only wish is an 4th game or jak and daxter. I would spend hundreds of euros this game makes me so happy you cant believe how beautiful it is but on the second level my disc broke this made me so sad
I love the Jak and Daxter series. It was the first series I played on the PS2 as well as Ratchet and Clank. When I heard J+D got a PS3 remaster, I immediately bought it and to this day, I still have it. I tested the PS4 version and I wasn't impressed...at all. The game crashed after every cutscene I tried to skip; this NEVER happened on the other 2 systems. I found various glitches in PS2 for shits and giggles back when I was a kid, but on PS4...it gets pretty frustrating. Even just the controls feels wonky and at times, I couldn't even control the camera - even when I tried to mess with the settings. And the FPS...you got that right too. For TPL, the FPS was decent; on 2+3 (especially the racing bits and intense missions), the FPS kept dropping - even during a few cutscenes essential to the story and even the funny ones got slowed down. So yeah, I recommend the beloved Jak and Daxter trilogy on PS3. For Jak X, I still have the PS2 disc and I have the emulator to play Daxter. The Lost Frontier....I just can't stand it. If you wanna play these games, have your PS2 and PS3 and PSP ready to go. Just...don't do it on the PS4. Also Boomer, great video :)
I still brought it, I dont exactly care aslong as I can play it. I lost the game when I still had my ps2, since I was younger I think I absolutely destroyed the disks, and I only came to notice that it was gone when the ps2 games started to vanish in the game shops. I was ecstatic when I found it on ps4..brought it without thought And I dont regret it!, I got used to it real fast...I'm just enjoying the game..playing the parts I never got to..i honestlh think it's worth it if your willing to look past it
@Deimonk i agree with BigBoss, as KH2.5 has some shonky drive transformation lag, whereas it is fixed in the PS4 variant. Nevertheless, PS4's requirement of PS+ to play online is kinda crappy, so i stick with single-player titles, but in no way, shape or form does the PS4 suck.
@@shaquillewalker2281 Arguing that something is popular therefore good is a fallacy. I like my ps4 as well, doesn't change the flaw in what you put forward.
Good to know. My girlfriend wanted to play these games again, and I was wondering if I should buy this collection instead of starting up my PS3 again. Happy to know I can save some money I guess.
Thanks for the information. I just bought the PS4 bundle for $40. Not too bad for 4 games, I’ll have to deal with the issues since I no longer have a ps2/ps3. Can’t bring myself to buy the limited run copies for the price. Here’s to hoping a Ps5 remaster will happen someday.
I got the ps4 as well and currently I can say I’ve had no issues :0 Game crashing happens moreso with more digital games though. Like I got No More Heroes 2 & 3 (Both great fun) yet they’d randomly crash sometimes. It’s very rare though.
@@DarkEclipse23 Some of the controls (analog stick x and y axis) in Jak 2 / Jak 3 are reversed for certain missions. Like any time you are required to aim and fire while riding something, the controls are super janky and reversed. It makes those particular missions a pain in the ass. Other than that, the ps4 version sufficed!
i recently bought jak 2 on the PS4 and it is UNPLAYABLE. The framerates go sub 30 almost the entire game and trying to skip ANYscene has a high chance of causing a crash. i talked to that guy you mentioned on twitter and he straight up doesnt believe me. i really hope they fix this because releasing a game in this state is unacceptable
I bought the PS4 version about a year ago and was appalled by the graphics, as someone who played the original PS2 and PS3 remaster. I don't remember having any troubles with the camera, but the controls did seem a tad off while the graphics and pop-in were definitely worse than even the original. I got Platinum regardless but I was disappointed with it and didn't bother with the other PS4 ports.
@@reflectbgaming1999 please the Jak and daxter collection on Vita plays like crap. Controls are way off. The only thing good are the mini games where you can use the touch screen. On ps2 there was a delay on the double jump allowing you to jump wait a sec jump again. That time window on psvita is gone across a 3 games. Plus with Jak 2 the control is off as well. I got on a bike to traverse the city when I got off my controls where reversed as in down would make me go forward and so on. It did it Everytime. Now after reading all these I might not get it for ps4 either. So sad I really liked these games back in the day.
Curtis Anderson thanks for ur input, I’m glad u were able to give more information. I only played Jak 1 when I was toddler. At the time I didn’t know what it was until years later when I was teen. I had bought it for the vita so I never really experienced the controls on the original consoles
I feel like this is literally from a speedrunner perspective, which from that standpoint yes its not the best, but for anyone not speedrunning the game it is fine.
I have a Base PS4 and the games run like crap, Jak1 is the only game that doesn't lag consistently, but that's not a compliment. NONE of the games should be this bad, if you plan to buy the Jak collection on the PS4, don't. You will just waste your money, there's no excuse for releasing this game in such a poor state. It's clearly just a cash grab, if they REALLY couldn't make the game run better, remake it. Like the Kingdom Hearts PS4/PS3 remastered games. They still have some issues, but without a doubt they are the ultimate way to play Kingdom Hearts. When remaking KH1 for the PS3, they noticed that the files of the game were gone, and they had to reverse engineer to make the game, some very minor things changed, but it's still the very same game.
After playing Jak and Daxter in Open Goal. Despite some issues (sometimes the game freezes on two frames for a few seconds), it boggles the mind how an inhouse emulator for PS4 is riddled with the problems you mentioned yet the guys at Open Goal after a lengthy examination of the original code are somehow able to get the game running on even a laptop... a laptop of all things. And it doesn't have the issues you mentioned.
Hey boomer, It would be interesting if you tested to see if the directional input problem exists on PCSX2 aswell,m may hint towards sony possibly using some PCSX2 code if ture.
See I noticed some issues with the PS3 version I got it pre-owned so it wasn't too much of an issue for me but I did notice a few bizarre issues, whole textures would go black as if they were removed and never put back, this was more noticeable in the cutscene where Kor reveals his identity as Kor's whole face would be totally black as if they removed the textures and then forgot to reapply them. I know that isn't game breaking and at the time I didn't even consider it a bug. There were other things like missions not triggering even Precursor Orbs not collecting and my game deleting itself or not registering a completed mission (that danged on-rails mission at the Drill Platform remains unfinished to this day I refuse to replay it again) and allot of sound glitches, but at the time I chalked all these issues up to my game being pre-owned, of course I now know that's not the case and the PS2 version is literally the best version of the games. I mean for all I know its been patched by now but it's still a case of they should've made sure these weren't issues in the first place, in my opinion a remaster of any game should always look and play either on par with or better than the original there should never be a single bug or anything that was never present in the original. This is a prime example of why I prefer pre-owned games over brand new ones. I simply refuse to pay £30-£60 for a game I already know is probably going to require either numerous or massive or both patches before it can be considered a passable experience. The way i see it if developers and publishers won't put the effort into finishing the game and/or releasing a polished product then i'm not going to pay full price for it, it's that simple.
@@maestromuten6120 I did notice it seemed to slow down in places (usually at the most frustrating of times) and would sometimes outright crash forcing me to have to reset the whole console because the control wouldn't respond. Again at the time I honestly chalked it up to my owning a pre-owned copy of the game and thought nothing of it at the time, I obviously know that wasn't the case now because a friend of mine got the collection brand new and he experienced the same issues.
I just started learning to speedrun the game on ps4 and had no idea about the limited directional input until watching this. I thought I was going insane with the rolling. I just assumed I was subconsciously moving the joystick before rolling. I adapted to it eventually, but I'm glad to know I can actually kinda blame the game for my screwups for once.
If I were to ever play the original three Jak and Daxter games again, I'd stick with the ps3 collection. My ps3 is still up and running. There's no glitches from what I've seen. It plays really well and overall, the best way to play them. The ps4 collection are so terribly made, that I won't ever play them. The only Jak game on ps4 that I would say is worth your money, is Jak X. Cause that game actually runs well. Plays really good and is very fun to play in glorious HD. Just a shame the first three games weren't handled with the same care as Combat racing.
The suns in the sky are the problem for me, they are either not there or they look terrible. That and black-faced Kor at the Construction Site meetup is forever there.
Bad take - I just went through all of them and I just can't reconcile your argument of "preserving" the games in a playable state. They are very playable, hold up well, and not so different from when I originally played them on a ps2 as a kid. All the videos about these ports just come off as overthinking something to the point of it becoming an issue, and thats whats gonna degrade people's memories of these games, not barely noticeable differences
I noticed the direction angles on the PlayStation 4. I’m glad I still have the ps2 collection. Though my Jak X was almost unplayable. Anyways, trophies.
@the limited directions segment: Does this mean you have limited shooting accuracy/aiming on PS4 too? Also meaning shooting on PS4 vs other consoles is a fairly differing experience? I wish someone would make comparison videos on more specific points like this.
The thing is I want to get jak 2 for ps2 since a couple of years but had other games I thought were more important personally. I think for the collection I want to build I would buy all versions at some point but wouldn't play the ps4 versions much. Also I really like your videos they are really informative keep it up!
i bought precursor legacy last year and played it trough and it was awesome! but couple months ago i tryed jak2 and could not play it... this weekend i tryed jak3 ans just as horrible... the fps drops make some particular things undoable.. like playing the game
"Even the very best computers will struggle to run ps2 games on the emulator", lolwut? Before I built my new PC, I played dozens of PS2 roms just fine on a 10 year old rig.
@@BoomerStreams you got me there, I haven't tried these two titles in particular, but I've played through over a dozen rpgs on there. I apologize if I came across as hostile, maybe you have a good point.
All good, no worries. I get your point too, some games don't need too high of a framerate, nor does it matter when the framerate dips. Jak runs at 60 FPS and slowdowns can really ruin the experience.
Ok so my best friend bought J&D through Jak X for his PS4 for me to play when I go to his house, he isn't really familiar with the game story franchise and everything and I was complaining for the exact same reasons to him. I was like what's wrong with your PS4 why are the frames dropping? Why is it changing direction on it's own, he thought I was crazy. Plus when you said how much u love Jak and Daxter... I had a flash back about my childhood and how I'm still playing after 13 years (I'm 16 btw)
It’s not that bad. It’s totally playable as I have completed all 4 games without any issues except minor lag in some areas. The GTA releases on the PS4 are completely unplayable as you only get around 30 FPS
So i just brought the bundle yesturday and it wont load the first jak when i click on the first one it loads on jak x combat racing any help would be much appreciated as i was raised on these games and want to replay them
You're worried about the game being preserved by corporate entities who disregard back compatibility. Well, rest assured Jak and Daxter runs for me at 4K 60 FPS with no texture issues on the latest 1.5 PCSX2 development build.
ND tried to remove the orb glitch in Jak 3 and now you don't get orbs in races. I'd take out my PS2 and play these 3 games but my eyes can't handle SD. I get headaches.
Hi I’m considering trying the series out but only way for me to play is with the ps4 versions and I know in the video you don’t recommended them but would you still recommend if the ps4 versions was the only way for me play them?
I'm pretty disappointed that Limited Run Games released _Jak & Daxter_ as a surprise/mystery release because it meant I didn't have any time to see if the version was any good. I was mildly hopeful that since it was getting a LRG release that this was actually a good version of the game but since then I've found out that the ports are plagued with the same kind of issues that we saw from similarly ported series like _Ratchet and Clank_ or _Sly Cooper._ With any luck, the issues won't be that prevalent, but considering I can easily 100% _J&D_ in a few hours, it won't be difficult to play both the PS2 and PS4 version back to back and make comparisons.
I'm thankful that you took the time out of your day for the last video and left a few comments regarding your situation. You may have already noticed, it definitely influenced this video.
@@BoomerStreams Wondered if that was the case, that's quite a buzz to know :) once again I apologize if those comments came across as overly critical, big fan of your videos, the best source for Jak news on youtube.
Better on PS4 than not at all because its a fun story, but $40 is a lot to ask for if it has all these issues. I hope they fix the 8 directions issue, that one sounds really bad.
Don’t understand how input lag is better than frame rate drops or limited direction input. I would rather the latter 10/10 everyday of the week. Listened to this entire video and the others about this bundle On your channel and as much as you talk about preserving game’s, you also mention multiple times this port should’ve never seen the light of day. I think you need to take a step back and get some perspective. If this wasn’t released I would NEVER be able to play this series again, and that would suck as its one of my favorite of all time. I don’t have a ps3 or ps2 and haven’t since ps4 launched and I don’t have a single friend I play with who has one either. Just because you like the old shit better doesn’t mean that people like me should be told this port is so bad it shouldn’t see the light of day, you just like other ports better. I almost didn’t buy this package bc of your reviews but after seeing other reviews and hearing how many times you contradicted yourself in this video I did purchase it, and I’m very glad I did. Also I don’t agree with you about this being a cash grab, how much money do you think they actually made on this port? This game is not as hot as it once was and I’m ECSTATIC they’re still trying to give us more ways to play it regardless. Well produced video but fundamentally disagree with the points you made.
The only thing that I found in Jak 3 is that there was a black void in some part of the game where I needed to go idk where or when in the game but! I had to restart the mission even though I wasn't in a mission
Honestly? I haven’t noticed any crashings etc yet :0 if anything the only annoying bits are the times I’m rolling and I roll into what I was trying to avoid, but that happens rarely. Other bits is that the turret and bike races control like ass. Although that may just be how they are as I always remembered them being ass. 😂 either way I’m still having fun.
It would of been a nice collection for the PS4 if the collection bundle was fix. It would had been better if naughty dog would of build this game from the ground up. Just like the crash bandicoot because the PS4 can’t handle the ps2 version of it
You mentioned at the end of the video it's difficult to connect the PS2 to a modern tv (not in those exact words). Well there's some great converter plugs available for quite a low price for the PS2, which allows you to connect it with an HDMI cable and run through 480p, which is the maximum output of the PS2. This is also when you would use a component cable. You should look into this, cause I got myself one of those plugs and I really love it. It's a total game changer when playing with the PS2 on a HD TV.
I feel like Sony asked Naughty Dog to add the Jak games to PSN because the PS2 library is lacking a large quantity of good games. They're running on an emulator but they are more or less a port because they have to actually go into the code and add trophies. I've heard Jak 2 and 3 have glitches but I think Jak 1 runs fine enough and is worth a purchase considering it's been on sale multiple times for half of it's standard price. (referring to the NTSC version)
The Precursor texture issue is inexcusable for a game they actually charge money for. There are a few things you expect from emulation, like occasional framerate drops etc., but they could have at least put in the work to get it to look right before selling it. Sony doesn't have to reverse-engineer their own hardware to emulate it, unlike the open source emulators you find elsewhere. You expect emulation to have processing overhead that may sometimes affect performance, but render glitches mean something isn't emulating correctly.
Great video Boomer and I also have some great news. I recently got a PS5 and decided to downloaded the games for the hell of it... and I was amazed. The frame-rate improved drastically and the graphics looked great. I was surprised. Sure there was a touch of lag around krews place but nothing like before, it almost felt like playing the PS3 version. I also noticed last year that the frame rate improves on the PS4 pro as well. But anyways, PS5 runs great and the graphics look good as well.
Hope you read this man. PS4 pro and PS5 versions run great. Guess you were right it’s all about the hardware when it comes to emulators. If you own a PS5 and a decent TV/monitor, you can enjoy these ports :D
Im really sad about jak no one makes a new jak game and i cant understand why activision didnt make a jak game when they brought crash bandicoot To life
I love Jak and Dexter definitely one of my favorite series! I remember playing the games a kid for the first time and it was great all great games Jak 2 is my favorite one! Great video tho man! I have the collection on my ps3! I was curious about the ps4 version but nice to hear another fans opinion on the PS4 Version🤔🤔🤔
Pretty fucking good video! I got the ps 4 version on release cause of nostalgic reasons... And was instantly disappointed when I played my favourite of the trilogy Jak 3. I just saw the frames dropped in the ground as it was not solid. And that took my motivation to play more like instantly! Great facts good video keep it up! :)
Thanks, man. I overlooked this series back in the day and almost bought it on PS4 with the recent sale. Glad I watched this first. I still have a PS2 so I’ll look for a copy of the original ✌️
It's worth playing the PS2 version first because although it's lower resolution than the PS3, some of the effects (like the suns) didn't transfer over well into the PS3 collection but look absolutely stunning in the original version. Not to say the PS3 version is bad, it's actually holds true to almost everything, but there are a few differences that make you miss original because of course they transfered a PS2 game to a PS3 system so not everything will fully render exactly as is.
The Jak and Daxter series is so dope! One of the best games Naughty Dog came up with. On the side note: the PlayStation store did warn PS4 that some features will function differently than the PS2
Haven’t played the PS4 versions, but I’ve played the PS2, PS3, and Vita versions. I never had a single issue of what you guys are talking about. No weird inputs. I haven’t heard anything negative from my brother or friends that do have the PS4 versions either.
The easiest option for Sony would be to improve their emulator. As I said, it is NOT impossible, just requires a little extra EFFORT. Plus some time and money. BUT, when it's improved, Sony could then re-release more PS2 games and make that "money" they were after.
Wanted to nitpick that euro versions also had a 50 frames option...... and I just did............. but an actual important point to make would be PS2 emulation. No, it is not "impossible" to emulate the console. It was just really hard to reverse engineer the unusual custom hardware in the form of software. It is getting there however, with more and more games running perfectly with minor hiccups in effects like HUD. Sony's emulator is just lazy, they can make a perfect one if they wanted to.
The Xbox one emulations of the Fable trilogy are bi-polar at best from my experiance! Fable 1 Anniversary is flawless! Works at full 4K with the X or 1080p at 60 fps. Sticky at loading transitions but flawless besides that! Fable 2 is VERY broken. It is the domain of the Glitch Gremlin! Missing textures 70% of the time which are replaced by seizure inducing lights, unplayable at times! Fable 3 works at 720p and The glitch gremlin shows up at times but it's totally playable! I know this is about our boi jak but the xbox has it's issues too. Fable 2 is kinda disgraceful and needed more work too!
Oh, don't worry. I'm glad someone's bringing up Xbox! I actually only know little about its emulation, but from the things I've seen and heard so far, it's pretty solid a lot of games.
BurkeMaverick Rip us PAL users
So the NTSC version is passable enough? I really want to buy it, but people, generally, make it sound as if both versions are shit.
No Fuks Given Yes, in my eyes it’s fine
How bad is the input lag on the PS3 version?
Passable.
@Grim Sytche hey Spyro's a fantastic game and Franchise, don't talk shit about something you haven't even tried.
Right? I LOVED Crash Warped(N. Sane)and seeing a childhood hero given the same love would be GREAT. Just...don't give Activision any ideas.
Yes! I totally want a remaster of the first Jak and Daxter! In fact, I’ve long wondered what the series would have been like if they hadn’t gone with the time travel route...
To think the game of my childhood isn't dead yet. Hell, it has its huge fanbase! It makes me really happy inside..
Jak isn't dead. Simply forgotten...

@@LogicalMarcochip I understand but could they not just patch it?
@@kaylokiller Of course they could, but that would take time and money.
And just as Boomer said, they already got the money from the fans, so they wouldn't gain much from it.
Exactly!
Does anyone know if the JAK HD collection runs better on the PS4 Pro or is it just the same as the original PS4 quality?
I don't even want to know what a PS2 classic will run like... 😥
I would buy the franchise if I had a enough money. It's one of the greatest franchises in my opinion
The vita version is still the worst but that doesn’t excuse how the ps4 version was handled
If you hack it and overclock it Jak 2 and 3 are actually playable.
Is it really that bad?? Its on sale on PSN right now and i would like to get it?
If you already own the ps3 versions its not worth it. If you havent played the game since ps2, its completely worth it.
dcta51 yeah get it before it’s too late, the graphics might put you off but get it if you want
@Frankie kun tell me if its shit lol
I got it recently. As a person who last played it on a PS2 system, I have ZERO complains with this version.
There is one audio bug that comes to mind on PS3, some notes on Haven City’s walking theme in Jak II are missing.
Then there's the punch glitch where Jak will go in a random direction every so often rather than consistently forward every time.
Not game breaking, just annoying.
I never noticed that. Played the PS3 collection in 2013.
meh If you go into the PS2 version and play the first part of the walking theme then PS3 there is a slight difference. Maybe my copy is different.
Yea for the ps3 version this is pretty hard to not notice also the punching glitch is annoying also
2 years on, I greatly appreciate this video.
I am happy you enjoy this video so much. ✨
Wish you would’ve shown examples of the things you said makes the game not as enjoyable as the originals. Other than that good video
@@Casketkrusher_ if they continue using SoC (System on a Chip) over Emulation to run older games like Xbox does i doubt they will.
Yup, PS4 backwards compatibility confirmed, which means... The PS2 Emulations are also playable on PS5.

Why???
@@مريمسالم-ك3ع It’s a legendary game
True, just the Ingame Menu where you can change between the games is soo sick. Mass media really remastered it with love.
Same ;0 well. I’ve only platinum’d the first and wary of the other two as collecting all 285 orbs is intimidating. But grats! 👏

My ps2 sat in the garage for a decade. Pulled it out. And started playing the jack and darter games on it. Still runs great.
Thank you!

i remember playing that game with my mother (she also loved it) and omg she said she will give my 1 Euro to buy ice stream if I make it to the 2. level (that water level).
i cant explain how good this game is. The music everything was just perfect and the atmosphere everything was innovative and the Story was so good you Could Write a Book about it.

I’ve played through Jak 2 recently on PCSX2 on a laptop. It ran great.
I still brought it, I dont exactly care aslong as I can play it.
I lost the game when I still had my ps2, since I was younger I think I absolutely destroyed the disks, and I only came to notice that it was gone when the ps2 games started to vanish in the game shops.
I was ecstatic when I found it on ps4..brought it without thought
And I dont regret it!, I got used to it real fast...I'm just enjoying the game..playing the parts I never got to..i honestlh think it's worth it if your willing to look past it
I always stick with the ps3 version it looks and runs the best
Deimonk that’s why ps4 sold triple the amount of the shit box and that’s fact look it up buddy

I've done the first world of jak 1, on ps4 pro, seems perfect, no bug, no freeze, playable.
I will definitely look into that, thanks for suggesting it!
I didn’t notice that I couldn’t aim in a certain direction until one mission tbh but was frustrating as I didn’t understand wtf was wrong
Did Jak 2 and 3 lagged for you too on ps3?
@@maestromuten6120 I did notice it seemed to slow down in places (usually at the most frustrating of times) and would sometimes outright crash forcing me to have to reset the whole console because the control wouldn't respond. Again at the time I honestly chalked it up to my owning a pre-owned copy of the game and thought nothing of it at the time, I obviously know that wasn't the case now because a friend of mine got the collection brand new and he experienced the same issues.
The PS5 supposedly makes the games run at a near locked 60fps, so im pretty tempted to pick up the ps4 collection now.
I honestly didn't find anything wrong it was actually amazing and graphic wise seemed pretty good imo

I'd recommend HD retrovision component cables. You'll even get the option to use progressive scan in Jak 3.
Hi I’m considering trying the series out but only way for me to play is with the ps4 versions and I know in the video you don’t recommended them but would you still recommend if the ps4 versions was the only way for me play them?
Yes, but be aware of the issues I mention.
I'm pretty disappointed that Limited Run Games released _Jak & Daxter_ as a surprise/mystery release because it meant I didn't have any time to see if the version was any good. I was mildly hopeful that since it was getting a LRG release that this was actually a good version of the game but since then I've found out that the ports are plagued with the same kind of issues that we saw from similarly ported series like _Ratchet and Clank_ or _Sly Cooper._
With any luck, the issues won't be that prevalent, but considering I can easily 100% _J&D_ in a few hours, it won't be difficult to play both the PS2 and PS4 version back to back and make comparisons.
Agree with you this time around. While it's possible to get used to the ps4 ports if you have no other options, definitely avoid them if you do.
There is no need to apologize, I think I read them exactly as you intended them. 👌
Still better than Vita.
What's a Vita?
I would rather jak and Daxter on the vita then a ps4 in my opinion only because I can take the game with me
@@hsblue Did you actually try out the Vita versions of these games?
i have not. iv seen videos and it is reeeealy bad
Never played Jak and Daxter but would like to give it a go. Being that it's a case of playing on ps4 or not playing it all, is it worth getting?
Can you talk about jak and daxter collection ps4 running on a ps5?
I can't since I don't have a PS5.
I'd go for PS3 version the PS4 controller isn't made for jak and daxter but the PS3 controller is bassicly the ps2 remote
It would of been a nice collection for the PS4 if the collection bundle was fix. It would had been better if naughty dog would of build this game from the ground up. Just like the crash bandicoot because the PS4 can’t handle the ps2 version of it
I would have much prefered to see the game remastered like the HD Collection for PS3, but for PS4.
I should indeed get one of them and do some sort of analysis in terms of quality and how to get the best signal out of your system with little effort.
I believe MetalJesusRocks has a video that covers this subject!
Fuck it I'm just gonna buy a ps2 all over again, gotta have Jak and daxter lol
Im really sad about jak no one makes a new jak game and i cant understand why activision didnt make a jak game when they brought crash bandicoot
To life
I men I'm from Spain. I'm making a Jak and Daxter Remake and I'd love you play the demo in your channel
Where can I get it?
@@BoomerStreams We need a week yet to launch the demo, Can I talk with you on discord? Do you know spanish?
@@jakanddaxterps5302 I don't know spanish, but you can talk to me on Discord. A link to mine is in the description.
Already platinumed all 3, the games felt totally fine to me. They are definitely playable. Y’all are nitpicky as fuck
I noticed I could buy JUST Jak & Daxter 1 on the PS4, do I need to pay for PS online though?
I love Jak and Dexter definitely one of my favorite series! I remember playing the games a kid for the first time and it was great all great games Jak 2 is my favorite one! Great video tho man! I have the collection on my ps3! I was curious about the ps4 version but nice to hear another fans opinion on the PS4 Version🤔🤔🤔
In the VIDEO SETTINGS hold D pad up and click R3. Its work for me.
What region are you in? NTSC or PAL?
@@BoomerStreams PAL (EUROPE) i bought digital for ps4. This method work for me in a JAK 1. In the game settings. Not the console.
I LOVE JAK AND DAXTER❤!!
Does the PS4 version also have input delay like the PS3 version?
No input delay there.
Thank you Steven, I appreciate it! ❤️
FC skip is patched on ps4. What other reason do you need to not get it?
FC skip? Fire Canyon skip? I don't think that's patched... Citadel skip is patched in NTSC regions though!
You absolutely have had those issues, you just didn't notice them.
@@MuchWhittering I think I would’ve noticed if my shit wasn’t properly working
I just tried to start the game n i do but it doesn't work.... 😑 Cant believe I'm asking this but how do I get it to start?
Hit the bottom right side of the touchpad, that should start it.
Wait is there a disk version?
The easiest option for Sony would be to improve their emulator. As I said, it is NOT impossible, just requires a little extra EFFORT. Plus some time and money. BUT, when it's improved, Sony could then re-release more PS2 games and make that "money" they were after.
free camera in scenes its possible ? :/
Ps Now has great emulation, and it runs games like the Sly Trilogy really well on it. Why isn't this collection in Ps Now in it's entirity?
Aleksi Taunimaa Because Naughty Dog is kind enough to not have us shell out 20 dollars every month to continue to play the original Jak trilogy.
The PS3 Collection is just superb. 💯
It’s on sale and I want to buy it. Can someone tell me if they fixed the bugs
No, they're still present in the PAL version.
BoomerStreams is it really that bad to play? Or will I be fine
@@BoomerStreams dumb question, is the pal versions the one the US got?
@@crazygamer4260 PAL is Europe and NTSC is North America.
Question: what's the US version of this game like on ps4 If you don't mind me asking!
NTSC.
