If I hadn't had passionate music teachers in my high school, I might never have started singing. I was the bullied, insecure kid who dreamt of singing without knowing that I had a voice for it.
"Because of my dedication at school I dared to crawl out of my shell and started to sing! I became more confident of myself and made friends and was forever in love with music.
"Nothing is as wonderful and honest as making music together. Nothing connects as music can. Music education is therefore very important for many reasons.
Floor's Wiki Bio
Floor Jansen started studying music at the Dutch Rock Academy in 1999, entering the Conservatorium Tilburg three years later. She studied musical theatre and a year of opera. After After Forever split up she started teaching performing in her own course called Wanna be a Star?!
She used to play the guitar, piano and flute and has completed several years of music studies.
From the age of 16 all during this period she was fronting the the Band Apocalypse (later known as After Forever) in 1997 until they disbanded in 2009. She then did vocal coaching and formed her own band called Revamp which officially broke up in 2016 because of Floor's commitment to Nightwish.
The RockAcademy in the Netherlands is an actual Bachelors degree, conservatory style, but focusing on the rock/pop industry
So did she study together with Simone or not? There are some conflicting info about that.

@@cancelled_user Floor attended the Rockacademie (that's the way we spell this in the Netherlands) from 1999 to 2003. In 1999 Simone was 14 and in high school. In 2002 Simone turned 17 and could theoretically have started at the Rockacademie, but she would have been a starting student while Floor was in her final year. But Simone makes no mention of the Rockacademie in her bio, and it is not on her Wikipedia either. Because of the dates involved and their relative ages, it is impossible that they studied together. Listening to Simone, it is totally unlikely she was ever at the Rockacademie. They taught pop/rock/hiphop/rap/jazz, not classical style.
@@franshinlopen2166 I think Simone had music/singing lessons at high school plus private lessons. I don't think she followed an education in a formal music study, but I could be wrong.

if you want marko vocals, the islander live at tampere, while your lips are still red live at wembley are both amazing songs with just him singing. then there's the phantom of the opera with marko and tarja. marko is belting out notes and keeping up with a classicaly trained opera singer it's crazy. people always argue about tarja or floor, for me the answer is always marko.

Floor does glorious backing vocals on Kiss While Your Lips Are Still Red at Wembley, so it was not just him singing. Also, Tarja is not an opera singer. Those people sing without microphones with a full orchestra. Tarja was classically trained in "Lied", which is classical style with small ensembles like chamber orchestras, or even just a single instrument. I do appreciate your appreciation of Marko though!

Floor was asked which Nightwish song is hardest to sing and she picked Ever Dream.
I truly believe that if you really want to sing like Floor you have to live the story or fully understand the story the song writer is telling and that is what makes Nightwish so great every one of them believe in the song they are playing

Floor´s voice is amazing but also her stage performance and presence. She is captivating.

I recommend you treat yourself with watching the Nightwish Wacken Open Air 2013 show from start to finish one day! The set list and performance as a whole is fire!

Connecting with what you are singing is pivotal in conveying the story you are telling. The man on your wall would appreciate Nightwish. Awesome to see you exploring them!
Floor stated in an interview that one of the reasons she transitioned from operatic music to metal is because she prefers music of a dark nature. So it's somewhat ironic that her favorite NW song is "Ghost Love Score" which is the polar opposite of the darker NW songs.
I seem to interpret the song a little differently. Take a look at the lyrics. "My fall will be for you..." "I have lost the path before me..." It sounds to me like an unrequited love, star-crossed lovers kind of story.
This is one of my favorits.....i couldn't make a choice because all the songs are awesome but Floor said in a interview that Ever dream is one of the hardest song to sing and you can see why but she always delivers a great performance, vocalist always sing what the can Floor sings whatever she wants to sing because she can do it all thnx for your reaction and greetings from the Netherlands

Haha your face when you heard Marko's singing makes all the money. In fact, Marko was the lead singer of the band for a while. I can not get used to the thought that he left the nightwish , an extraordinary loss for music in general. All the best 🤘🤘🤘

While Your Lips Are Still Red at Wembly is one song where Floor is Marco's backup vocals. Also, Marco is lead on The Islander at Tempere. Love both of these songs.
Singing that high for that long with that much passion and dynamics and her voice never breaks or shakes or cracks or anything.
It's fucking unbelievable. Been listening go music for 30+ years and she is absolutely stunning. Once in a generation stage talent. Yeah you can get voices like that in the studio with 100 takes and a ton of editing and EQ and everything else. But live? Fucking hell.

Congrats! My tickets are for the first of October. Going with my fiancee. This is the first time I've ever been willing to scrape the money together for a concert.
It's a shame that Marco retired from the band earlier this year. I was looking forward to seeing him in October with Nightwish in Los Angeles.

Yes! Thinking about "what would ** do here" is helpful when practising. I wish I could "channel" Tuomas into my piano playing more! and Marko singing! Marko sings "High Hopes" the Nightwish tribute to Pink Floyd! Tuomas keeps it simple but effective and Emppu shines!

Great reaction, I liked your enthusiasm. For me the best performance of Marko as a singer is " high hopes", also "the islander" is a great one, both are softer songs. For a great song made for him.. "endlessness" from the last album, this one is a little heavier. And for a catchy song with both of them "Ghost river", on the heavy side. Stay safe 🤘😁🤘
Marko does do quite a few songs as lead as well as harmonies with Floor. Try 'The Islander' live at Tampere for a great Marko solo and 'While Your Lips are Still Red' live at Wembley where Floor is actually a backup. Others where he's got a lot of vocals include, 'Devil and Deep Blue Ocean' Live at Buenos Aires, 'Ghost River' live at Wacken 2013, 'Romanticide'.
You, somehow, left out High Hopes.

Marco’s vocals glued together so many Nightwish songs, from Tarja era through Annette phase until recently, when Floor joined the band. Will be interesting to see how they manage without him (maybe using Troy a bit more?)

In a very interesting Q&A (2018 Fortarock, before Beste Zangers) Floor answered modest: 'I can do a bit of Opera but i am not an Operasinger" ( take a view for the rigt context) at an other place she said 'I just wanted to sing high' what she already did before any form of training in early After Forever. She stated lots of times that she is always eager to discover new technical ability's (for example the growling), even that she is a nerd on the technical stuff. Glad for us!

I know other comments have given you pointers to Marko singing by himself, but the real magic happens when he and Floor sing together. The best examples of that which I think of are: Ghost River, and Devil And The Deep Dark Ocean.

If you want Marko and Floor singing together I suggest The Devil and the Blue dark ocean live from Buenos Aires.
oh and like some others have suggested Floor sings backup to Marko on "Your lips are still red and Islander", they do good on "Yours is an empty hope" where Marko is the higher voice and Floor does the fry or growly voice, and alone Marko kills his cover of Pink Floyds "high hopes", and gets really down and dark on the heavier "Master Passion Greed", but also just a short suggestion that I'm sure others will give you also, the Only one everybody recommends you read up on the background of it to enjoy it more is "The Poet and the Pendulum", but all in all yes you will DEFINITELY relish and enjoy your journey, guaranteed!!!!!!

I like you and your Nightwish reactions a lot! I'm happy because you are back in the rabbit hole! 😉 If i'm honest i have to say that i took a little break when Anette was the singer. I bought the new album with her and there are great songs on it, but i don't like her live. I saw them with Tarja 3 times live and i wanted to go to an conzert with Anette, but something came up and than i listen more other bands. But than come Floor, a godpresent for the band and the fans and most of them love her. Me too! She's the best female singer i've ever seen and perfekt for Nightwish! And really beautiful! Maybe you have some time to check out her channel and hear her covers she did in the last ~half year, started with the cover of the disney movie Frozen "Let it go", than i like her "Alone" cover of the band Hurt and her cover of Lara Fabian's "Adagio" very much, but my favorite is her last cover "Oblivion" of M83 i think!

I'm much like you in my Nightwish journey. I was a Tarja and Nightwish fan in the early-mid 2000s, but my interest in them died out during the years with Annette. When Floor joined I don't think I even noticed, I was paying attention to other symphonic metal bands. Epica, Edenbridge, Delain, Xandria, Dark Sarah, and more. When Floor's first album was released I think I must have heard Elan (the first single off their first album with her) - but I didn't give it as much of a chance. I never knew about Showtime Storytime, which is the recording of the Wacken 2013 concert. But via UA-cam reactions I finally heard Ghost Love Score at Wacken, with Floor, and that is when I woke up. I said, wait a minute, this is incredible. I asked myself, where have I been? And like you I went down the rabbit hole, listening to Storytime, Everdream, Dark Chest of Wonders, She is my Sin (you have to hear She is my Sin, for me that is/was the quintessential Tarja track).
Floor is phenomenal. I am and will always be a Tarja fan, but for me personally I enjoy Floor more. I love her diversity and power. Tarja did one thing and she did that one thing great, like noone else (the operatic style). But that's basically all she did with Nightwish. Don't get me wrong I'm not knocking Tarja, I love her. But Floor brings more of a metal edge that I love and appreciate.
I'm having fun watching your own Nightwish journey. I can't wait until you get to Floor's performances on the show Beste Zangers! Personally I would recommend listening to those songs in the order in which they appeared on the show, but whatever path you take into those, it's going to be incredible

She is just giving humbly her advice on voice control, tone, breath control... ect. But up to u. But I'm sure ud love her perspective. I enjoy following your journey. So enjoy.

Floor says that this is the most difficult song for her as she is almost constantly on the highest notes there.
Nightwish is such a great band,they are proffesionals who loves there yob,and having lot's of fun while they're performing .
Floor came into the band in 2012 to replace Anette Olsen because she was ill.
From the moment that Floor went comfortabel whit the songs and the band, it was clear to me that, whit all respect for Tarja and Anette, Floor is the perfect fit for this perfect band .
When i listen to Nightwish 's Phantom of the opera, Tarja and Marko are killing it, and Tarja is a great singer, Tarja is more operatic, but Floor is more divers and more metal (she also can growl), it fits perfectly into the diversity of this band.

Nightwish songs were never so good until Floor sang them. They were very lucky to find her.
Very nice reaction indeed, I've only recently discovered Nightwish and I'm fully hooked on them now, and I'm a 59 year old bloke from middle England..... I guess quality is quality whatever your age....
