Floor embodies the compositions of Tuomas.
Ive seen PAN last week in the digital concert. They all performed the song flawless, but you could hear a very big SIGH at the end of the song and see them thinking: you BLOODY Tuomas... it was so difficult to play for them 😂
According to Tuomas, the song is the “mother of all Nightwish songs,” about himself and how he wants people to remember him as when he passes away. Before he wrote "The Poet and The Pendulum", he said "This is the most personal song I’ve ever written. My testimony for the whole world. With this song I want to apologise everyone who deserves my apology. It also makes an “I don’t care” -statement to them who deserve it. The song is also about what Nightwish means and has meant to me. It’s all, without it I’m dead. I have created it and it has created me. When I pass away, this song’s lyrics are of what I wish to be remembered. An Ocean Soul."
At the end of Friday's show when Tuomas was hugging Jukka I thought that he was trying really hard not to cry. Clearly NightWish means a lot to him.
@@tatw167 Well, Tuomas just had gotten proven that his music could survive another lineup shift, as well as being online.
Thomas has to be one of the most talented musicians, composers, & whatever else he does with Nightwish, that I have had the privilege to listen to in my 63 years! I have been listening to rock, heavy metal, classical, jazz, music from the 20' to 50's, my whole life....as my late father not only listened to this music, he encouraged us to explore whatever type of music that we wanted to...and he never said "no" to whatever we chose! In fact he took me to my first rock concert when I was just 14....Elton John....before he had become a Super Star! My father was actually a bigger fan of his than any of us...he just loved his music. I know if he was still alive he would have enjoyed Nightwish...and he would have been smitten by Floor!!! Who could blame him...!!!
Very personal to Tuomas indeed. Many theories about the actual meaning. As always Tuomas only tells us that the song means to you what the song means to you.
Many say something like "it is a suicide note for letting his parents down". But I have a different theory. Tuomas has issues with the fact that growing up requires losing your innocence. So in order to grow up he had to let go of his inner child (and innocence).I feel this song is about Tuomas "killing" his inner child in order to move on in life.

In Nightwish songs, when "the boy" is mentioned it is a reference to "Tuomas".
Her presence alone is so breathtaking and majestic... It's not fair 🤣

If Floor leavs Nightwish, Toumas says..... There is never going to be a Nightwish again.
Let us all be thankful for Floor and pray to the Valkyry Universe that she never does anything else. She is Toumas perfect instrument to express his compositions.

"If Floor leaves Nightwish". Floor's literally own words just recent: "they will have to carry me out of Nightwish". So don't worry, she's going nowhere. She's at home with Tuomas and Tuomas is at home with Floor.
I hope that Floor continues to do "anything else". It seems NW has found a nice cadence of releasing new albums that allows their members to explore other projects and release their artistic energy. (Auri, Brother Firetribe, Wintersun, Floor's solo stuff)
Arjen Luccassen is working on a new Stare One album (the more guitar heavy cousin of Ayreon). Floor is busy with Joost van den Broek (former After Forever & Arjen's right hand). I wouldn't be surprised if our dear queen would be heavily involved in that album.
In the last members stream on UA-cam someone had written in the chat: "Floor, please never leave Nightwish". Her immediate reaction was: "Oh God, no, i do not do this!".

Musically this song hits a couple times, but the big hit is emotionally. Especially when you learn the lyrics and story behind it...P.S. never try to predict what NightWish will do, it's like Tuomas reads your mind and says "nope, not yet." And can we give credit to Emppu for never being show off or over doing a solo, he always seems to give just what is needed..class, skill and talent

The song is one of my favorites but personally I sum in up with two lyrics from the song:
"Every thought the music I write
Every WISH for the NIGHT."
As others have said it's about Tuomas, and how he wants the legacy of the band to BE the band that he's put so much into. He wants people to focus on and remember the music and not the people. And honestly doing so has worked out pretty well - people come and go, but the quality remains high, and the music endures.
Totally agree with you about 'this is the best ever, no this is the best ever...' I feel exactly the same. This is now my favourite Nightwish performance, until I listen to the next one! Such a strong performance, although it is slightly held back due, I believe, to the subject matter. Even Emppu was more reserved. But then that's what the song required. As Nightwish show frequently, sometimes less is more.I don't know of any other performer or group of whom I have so many favourite songs. Most others I just have the one or two, but with Nightwish it's almost them all. They are unique. And another insightful, animated, engaging and uplifting reaction.
Emppu has the rare ability to get as much out of one note as some can get out of several bars, in the same way as David Gilmour, coupled with an abilty to play insanely fast riffs where appropriate, more like EVH - but he always plays what serves the song best.
@@I_am_Phil_Lee Yup, totally agree about the comparison with David Gilmour. The tone Emppu extracts from his guitar is gorgeous, perfect, even. And when Emppu comes in with that riff towards the end, backed up by Marko and Troy...what a groove!
Got to say, this is one of the few reactions (at this point.... 2021) that really felt it maybe is the first time hearing reaction. Thank you.
I love how she just stands there with her arms spread out. I think she looks Regal and also love the way she moves her arms to the beat. One of the best guitar slots I've heard

This is a very emotional and personal song for Tuomas. The small child's voice represents Tuomas speaking. When asked what this song was about "Tuomas has said about this song, that it's about if he were to die tomorrow, what would he want to say to everyone that he loves, and that love him..." Notice the small boy on the screen reaching out to the flying swans on the screen. The swan is the guide to the afterlife in Finnish mythology. He is reaching out to implore them to take him with to the other side. A beautiful song filled with sadness from an unfulfilled destiny.

Hello Anastasia 😊 I have just watched a handful of your Nightwish reactions and I am happy to see you recognize this band is full of extremely gifted artists. And you're right about the "perfect storm" that is the combination of these specific people. I firmly believe the magic of Tuomas would never have been fully realized if he had not asked Floor to join Nightwish. Marko is leading-man talent by himself. Add him to Tuomas and Floor and this really is not a fair fight for the rest of the music world. Throw in Emppu---the onstage glue---and Troy's mastery of rarely encountered instruments and sounds. Well...only Nightwish does this. Thanks for the videos Anastasia. I look forward to finding your cover of Dead Boy's Poem.

This song is a masterpiece in showcase what makes Nightwish such a great band. Integration with Quotes from Shakespear, but also playing with the setup, like when the bass drums come in, dynamics, unexpected elements (voice of the boy), etc. Also sometimes less is more, so a reduction to one instrument at a certain time within the song is crucial.
I hope this will be still a source of inspiration for you.

Tuomas has such a fabulous way of telling stories with his music and lyrics....it's like he can put emotions and feelings into a song that everyone can understand! Even his songs with more of a heavy metal vibe are amazingly emotional! Like the first time I heard "I want my Tears Back!"brought memories of a relationship that I had with a woman in the 1990's!
You need to react to two of Nightwish earlier songs, " Walking In The Air" and "Sleeping Sun" ( Sleeping Sun" from Tampere Finland, 2015 Live.). You could cover both of them too! Oh...please react to "Elan".... has the sound of an Irish Pub drinking song!! It is awesome!
There are those books that are worth re-reading over and over and this is definitely one of them. Your comments are a joy to watch. I just think you can get even more out of it if you understand what the poem is about, because then you also see why Floor (and the band) choose the tone and singing style to tell the story. You can also notice the cross references and themes that appear in earlier or later lyrics. Now each song remains too much on its own.

Great reaction, Anastasia! This is a very personal song to Tuomas with pretty dark and intense lyrics.
There is no 'the best ever'. Neither is there 'the worst ever'. Because there is no one in the world eligible to determine and write the rules for what is best or worst.
Can I suggest "Song of myself (live at Wacken 2013)", "Devil and The Deep Dark Ocean (live at Buenos Aires)", maybe "Alpenglow (live from Wembley)" or if you're really want to tease Marko's voice and a brilliant Emppu's guitar solo you can do "High Hopes (Pink Floyd cover)"? Cheeeeeers!!!!
I am glad you back to checking the Nightwish, you should totally check out Floor's UA-cam channel, she has lots of covers and explains her voice techniques there. There is only 1 Floor, nobody should ever set their goals that high, like me taking up basketball. I might be really good at basketball, play really well, better than most even. I will never be as good at basketball as Michael Jordan was, but watching him play and understanding what makes him great, with lot of practice, can make me so much better. Nice reaction.

English is not my first language vut lyrics are for me just as importansm especially with Nightwish. I cry everytime I hear this song, from the first time.
Yes, P,s do cover from this song Anastasia. And about you going home for a month. Nice, maybe you should visit Finland and go see NW museum at their home city. I can't wait to hear your version of this. You could speed up the first section especially if you won't put that spoken part in there at all. Last part is faster, so if that also will speed up it might get trickier. Keep last part as is, speed first part and try if it works. If not, do like normal speed.
P.S almost all NW songs are journeys, not like normal songs with start brigde and solo then ending.
This Version, is one of my absolut fav Songs. I hope, can see them 17.12.in Hamburg. And yes Anastasia, make a Cover. 🤗forget, Romeo&Juliet is very good.

Doesn’t “piano singing” come from Italian? I think it means “singing lightly”, nothing to do with he actual instrument Pianoforte. Piano as in the dynamics signs on the score, piano, mezzopiano, mezzo forte e forte (p, mp, mf, f). What I love about Floor (and Marcela Bovio) is that they use he full range of dynamics, from pianissimo to forte/fortissimo, while many of the opera singers I’ve worked with only have a range that goes from mezzoforte to forte/fortissimo.
Oh yes that’s right. We use both terms, they sound the same in English but very different in Russian and mean different things. I should’ve been more descriptive
I seem to have noticed that quite often Empuu's guitar solos emphasize the vocal lines and repeat and expland the melodies.

Como fan de NW desde febrero de este año...sí ,no sé como no los he escuchado antes!!! Te recomiendo que si quieres una canción "journey" la próxima sea Poet and the pendulum oficial live donde puedes habilitar subtítulos. Eso sí es altamente recomendable (creo que es imperativo) revisar la historia detrás de la canción en google y tener a un costado la letra.(historia canción referida Tarja-NW-Tuomas ). Prepárate es increíble. saludos desde Chile de un new NW fan.
