Tyler’s manner of communication brought me to tears; so oddly comforting during this rescue and disaster. If this is in his training, he performed impeccably. “What’s your name, my name’s Tyler.” “Do you have any dogs or pets with you?” “Just hang on, you’ll be alright.”

My thoughts exactly he made them all smile a little and made a scary time that much easier with the way he spoke to them. I pray they won't have to witness to much death and destruction cuz it sometimes changes them and he seems like an amazing young man. The whole team and all the rescuers are amazing for going in and saving all they can.

I don’t think people even realize the littlest things like that, mean the most to people in times like these.. It’s the way he comforted them & let them know they’d be ok. Gave clear instructions without being pushy, bossy, forceful or rushing them. Peoples body language & giving off good genuine vibes can literally help people get through some tough times a lot easier, & that’s what this man & his team did. What an amazing guy. Just super sad to see either way. Florida/Tarpon Springs/Clearwater is my second home I feel for these ppl. @Coom Lord That's not totally correct. You can lateral over to another branch but it's at the end of your enlistment and you have to be RELAD first, then you sign the papers at the requiters office, go to Bootcamp (indoc) but it's not the full-blown version and unless you are, say, Navy and you are going into the same rating you held, you will spend less time making the switch. I got a Navy RM2 (sub guy) who lost 1 paygrade, attended "A" school, and reported aboard my ship as a TC3. "A" school was sorta a waste for him but he did learn a few things and was happy he got to attend. He was a good guy, little hard for him to get used to being on such a small ship (210ft) and out for 10 weeks at a time but he got his sea legs after the 3rd patrol. He got seasick a lot. But I'll offer up my observation. I can bet by your demeaning post, you are not a rescue swimmer much less in the Coast Guard.

The old folks remember when Sanibel and Captive were nature retreats with few houses, a marginal bridge, shores of sea shells, home to birds and trees and magical places----not another subdivision of garish housing for Yankee retirees. A few good hurricanes can put things right back where they used to be. My 89 year old mother remembers the coast before the condos and crammed housing, the bird retreat, the few hotels, tiny restaurants....she shares your opinion, Mr. Lee.
