    People would complain that seeing Kyle cry made him a weaker character, but let's stop for a second. The guy was born in a world torn apart by nukes and grew up knowing nothing but the war against machines. He had no idea what the world looked like before the war, his only link to it was an old picture. His breakdown happened because he saw how the world was indeed beautiful, and the horrible realization that the war he fought was still coming.

    In the deleted scene about Cyberdyne, Kyle says "Nah, that's tactically dangerous."
    In Terminator 2 when they go to stop Sarah from killing Dyson, the T-800 says "This is tactically dangerous."

      Yeah all these years I was pissed that all we saw of Kyle looking at this lost world was that one snippet of him walking in the morning after they slept in the tunnel. I had always wished there was a scene where he expressed wonder and awe at the beauty of nature and this was written beautifully, but sadly the acting wasn't quite up to snuff and the lighting made them both look terrible. It's too bad they didn't have the budget to do unlimited takes until it looked right because this scene really deserved to be in the film to flesh out the tragic quality of Reese's mission.

    One could feel the love relationship between Sarah and Kyle is kind of gratuitous, but after watching these very intimate scenes between them one begins to understand why she fell so hard for him. This is not only a love story about a girl falling for her savior, it's about a woman who sympathizes with the deep sorrow of a desperate man.

      It's also a story about a boy falling for his goddess, the woman he's worshipped since he was a youth, without any hope of ever knowing her. It's about a man who encounters the impossible paradise of a woman at once unreal and suddenly more real than he would have sworn possible. I think that's where the intensity of that daylight scene comes from. It's not just the world that's gone - _she's_ gone as well. He comes from the future, but she lives here in the present, and she never makes it to his world, and I think here is where he makes that connection. _She_ is part of _here_, and _here_ is gone. In a very real way then, _she does not exist._ This is serious "one false move and you lose your mind" territory. He is utterly, utterly unmoored in this moment, and her designation as his target is the only thing keeping him alive. Of all the kamikaze missions I've heard of, this one has to be the most badass, I swear.

      It is very interesting! that scene combined with the final cyberdyne scene setup a lot for Terminator 2 that I am shocked was in Terminator 1.....!!......but it's almost as if they didn't want to take away from the first movie by making it the classic "here comes the sequel before the movie's even over" ending.... so I think it was a good move! But I'm blown away that the T2s plot was already in there.. but I still like that they took this out... my world would be quite different if not........
      also it appears that just like any classic time paradox, cyberdyne was actually not an innovator in the technology.... it ended up being that because Sarah took the "false" clue from the future that it would be productive to go to their lab.......but thanks to that, that's where the Terminator ended up being destroyed and is the only reason they ended up with the technology from the Terminator from the future...... leading us to the same set up in T2

I still have misgivings about it because it's basically Lolita with the genders reversed, a 30something female basketball coach is on the down low with a beautiful high school boy. But I couldn't help but find it funny and charming. Biehn starts off as the only one in his circle of friends without a girlfriend (even though he's the fairest one of all lol) and his performance feels very innocent, then very cheeky and sassy. Dumb fools ridiculing Reese's tear. The character clearly never seen scenery like this in his lifetime before being sent in time. All he ever remembered was war after war after war. Carnage and survival is his life.
    Dude doesn't even shower, let alone being able to sleep for even an hour. If he can, explosions, loud shouts and gun fire are his lullaby. The reaction when he pulled the gun on Sarah when she struck him says a lot about his character as well. Kyle is a walking PTSD.
    Then you got Genysis Kyle who look like a body builder, slept well, shaved, ate everyday, and questions a lot. He's literally the opposite version of the worn battle Kyle from this one. So yeah, it makes perfect sense that original Kyle Reese has finally breathed fresh air for the first time ever that is not filled with dust and human ash in his lungs.

      This scene would have giving his character alot of sympathy. He had never seen the grass or trees. Stuff we see on a daily basis. I myself love to take strolls through the woods every now and then. I couldn't imagine living a life where all of that was gone forever, so seeing Kyle break down seeing it all for the first time in this scene, was very sad and just shows we take things for granted. I think him being portrayed as keeping his mind on the mission + having that one sexual scene with Sarah is the most realistic route they could’ve taken. @@valentinius62 True but sometimes filmmakers just make a very bad call or include pointless things in place of more important scenes. For example Hobbit the battle of five armies even in extended editions ommitted emotional scenes like full funeral for Thorin with Gandalf's speech, or quite pivotal scenes like Gandalf confronting Thranduil that his son is far more important gift and reminder of his wife than some gems he had dwarves make for her.
      Instead extended edition had more of stupid scenes.
      Compare that to deleted scenes reinstated in Lord of the Rings its just more of important scenes to tie up plot threads like death of Saruman, or more scenes from the books like heorns after battle of Helms Deep, or Houses of healing scenes between Eowyn and Faramir, Mouth of sauron, all are the scenes from the book.

Imagine living a life of eternal war, growing up knowing how to fight just as you learn to speak or read a all but futile war against a relentless enemy in a world seemingly endless in twilight, then being taken to a time before all that. But how I deal with it is what makes the difference from being a strong willed man and being a vulnerable man. Even the male species is just as prone to many things as the female species is. It's not always easy being the strong willed leader your party needs you to be, your greatest strength can also be greatest weakness.

Which plays a key part in the second, when she carves it into wood and goes to blow it up. And the quote is what makes John realise that's what she's gone off to do. So this scene included in the original, would have given that scene so much more power and meaning in the second!

      Almost. In T2, John says he told his dad in the future to say that to his mum in the past so she could tell John once he was old enough. Here, Sarah said it to Kyle, which contradicts what John said. It could have worked with a bit of rewording but it'd be better if Kyle said it to her. Obviously, James Cameron didn't know what'd happen in T2 when he filmed this scene - he's a genius but he doesn't know any real time travellers.

      Md Ray He is a robot, but not a cyborg. He is an android to be more specific. There are different types of robots. Like, different shapes for example. You can have a spherical robot, rectangular robot, cubic robot, etc. etc. Robots that resemble humans specifically are called androids (andro-, ex. androphobia = fear of men (males), andro adding as a man, meaning human). Cyborgs are humans by definition, that have robotic or mechanical parts. Ex. a man with a robotic leg, arm, heart, eye... Those are cyborgs (I think Marcus in Terminator Salvation is a cyborg as well, he had a human brain which is the main aspect of being a human while the rest of his body was robotic soooo yeaah). And before you say anything about the movie itself mentioning the terminator being a cyborg, the movie is wrong. By definition. I guess because "cyborg" sounds darker and more original for its time.

      @MP197742 10 років тому +34

      Had the exact same thought when I saw it, but after thinking it over, it's better without the last two scenes. The reason is because it goes right from that point to the scene in the desert where we find out that Kyle is John's father. That's a great scene, because it deals with time travel issues by making it all a nice circle. The machines tried to kill John before he was born, but by doing that, they caused him to be created. There's no paradox - the time travel itself created the future that the time travelers came from. Very clever compared to most sci-fi that just sort of wings it with time travel and puts no thought into how its messing everything up.
      But anyway, it you include the scenes with the guys talking about the chip or reveal that it was at Cyberdyne, then you would basically be pulling the same trick twice in a row in two minutes. Maybe audiences could have handled it, but it's just way cleaner without introducing that.
      It works well in the sequel because it's its own movie where that issue is presented and developed as the its own focal point of discussion.

    3:11 this part really shows how competent and inspired Sarah actually was. And Reese's moving display of sadness really shows the depths of despair humans live in the future. They really should have included that part.

      Matter of fact, it's staggering just how much this scene foreshadows T2. Both Sarah's starting to try and prevent Judgment Day and taking on a more aggressive, proactive personality, as well as Reese's breakdown. What he says about the world as it is in the 80s is JUST, exactly, the way Sarah comes to see the world around her by T2; she sees everything around her as already gone, and witnessing any trace of beauty (such as the Salcedas playing with their baby) is enough to drive her mad with grief at how all of that will soon be destroyed.

    The scene when Kyle breaks down and cries, is a fantastic and moving scene... but in terms of the context of the film. Before the love scene, Kyle says pain can be shut off, meaning he learnt to disconnect himself from a lot of his emotions. I think it was right in some ways they deleted it, because he had to be strong for Sarah Connor. Though I'd probably would have had him shed a tear when looking out of the window before the love scene. Then wiping it away before turning to Sarah...

Seeing a world he never knew and was never supposed to, as well as being presented with the very possibility of even trying to stop it all from happening. That very morning was completely unknown territory for him; he probably never thought beyond saving Sarah from the Terminator, much less thought about just what they could possibly do with their knowledge of the future. He'd been following orders all his life and being extremely good at it, yet now he was faced with the same "dark road" as Sarah in T2... If he hadn't died (assuming it wasn't absolutely predestined), who's to say he wouldn't have probably given Sarah's plan a shot? No fate, right?

      Because it showed Sarah's transformation too soon. Remember, she was a helpless kitten in this film until that pivotal moment when she snapped and told an injured Reese to get on his feet, Soldier. If Sarah becomes more hardened and driven and Reese shows his weakness in the field scene, then they basically become equals in the mission. That shouldn't happen. We can't see any weakness in Reese so that when he dies, Sarah can be completely affected because her protector is gone and she must now fight for herself.
      This is why the climax is so much more effective. She's not just fighting the final fight. She's transformed into a fighter right before our eyes. With all that sub-plot cut, Cyberdyne remains a mysterious entity and doesn't raise any extra questions. If this movie was made without the intention of a sequel, which it was, then there's no need for the guy to find the chip. Remember, this was a very low budget film ($6.4 million) made by The Hemdale Film Company, an outfit that hadn't really done much before this film. There was no plan for a sequel.

      Why can't James Cameron make an extended cut with the deleted scenes restored like the T2 extreme edition?? All these scenes are outstanding, really adds more character development, and gives us a tease of what to come.
      Instead of focusing on the shitty Avatar sequels, make an extended cut for The Terminator, Cameron!

    The extended execution of the wrong Sarah, the revelation and the death of Traxler, Kyle's breakdown, and the very ending were scenes worthy of keeping in the movie. The rest of it was properly dumped, though, as it would have slowed the pace of the film down too much and provided little in return.

    10 MINUTES??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? If this all the deleted scenes it's really shitty they left a lot of this out, a lot of this actually helped the story and gave the characters more depth and you're really going to tell me people can't afford to sit in a theater for 10 more minutes when they already expect to be there for more then an hour? I especially like how the cop who handed Reese the gun during the police station shootout. He put all the pieces together, from the T-800 getting shot with shotgun several times and smashing the window all the way to where he saw one man (Machine) was wiping out his entire station of 30 or more cops. Not to mention Reece's breakdown shows how much of the world he never got to see and how amazing life can be without living in fear of being vaporized by lasers in seconds with no chance to mourn his lost comrades and loved ones so he could keep fighting. I honestly wish I could've seen Reece survive to see him live a life he never got to have with proper food, a place to sleep and actually be happy to be alive because he would live knowing the war he was born into has a chance to be stopped and all the deaths and lost lives would never happen. It probably wouldn't cure his PTSD because he live through it but who knows what could've happened. I am probably over thinking this too much but that's what happens good story telling and good acting pulls you in and makes you care about people who don't even exist.

    • @juliuskwak1263
      @juliuskwak1263 8 років тому +3

      That's because you don't understand the scene. Think about it. Kyle tells Sarah that destroying Cyberdyne is not his mission. There's deep meaning behind his devotion and dedication to protecting Sarah. She has YET to give birth to John Conner. Without John existing, he wouldn't ever exist.
      After intercepting Sarah, he tells her that being in the past is like a dream. And only in that dream are there things beautiful. Nature, Sarah, no wars, etc, etc... As much as he wants it to be real and to be permanent, he knows that isn't the truth. Somehow his is a premonition to T3 in which no matter what futile efforts were made, the Terminators are an inevitability.

    Man I find the scene where Sarah's talking about everyday stuff with Kyle so impactful, she becomes the voice of the audience, it's so difficult to comprehend the privation and terror that he's lived through all of his life. The bit where he picks up on hot dogs amongst all the other things Sarah lists is interesting, I guess in his mind Dogs' principle purpose is to spot Terminators, who knows what he was picturing when he heard it? What is a hot dog? Why is the dog hot? Is the hotness of the dog conducive to the mission? By what means does the dog achieve hotness?
