i second @sirforce response. I also run my Rane one's XLR's into separate channels on my mackie boared, i then Pan left on channel 1 and Pan right in channel 2 . that way each column has its own channel Volume and EQ. that sound and headroom is outstanding. its an old school thing. use to do that back in the 90s till now. you wont be disappointed. other than that great video. and. the 28 G3s are beast but i know you already know that lol. also the limit light isn't bad. its there as a warning and meant to flash. as long as its not a steady limit light. no different from a clip light on a traditional Amp. steady light not good , but blinking is never an issue
Doing that now with my mixer. Just panned them R/L. Sounds great, and I like being able to mute each speaker now, thanks! Yeah, I'm good with some blinking. I'm just trying to get a good formula for no blinking and have some headroom when I need it. Great advice here
Use the TRS on the touchmix 8 to get a 10db pad (vs the XLR) - the signal will be attenuated giving you some headroom coming into the touchmix 8. The QSC manual mentions this but it's about as brief as what I just wrote here. By doing that you will be able turn the trim knobs up slightly around ~9 O'Clock and avoid a clipped signal from your Prime especially since yo'u're just at 0db. Second recommendation - pan your channel 1 L and channel 2 R and you'll have stereo sound. Right now it's mixing both inputs together to both speakers - can see this on the mixer display below the Cue button for each input.
@@AaronStrawn Yes - XLR out from Prime Master that cable will have TRS on the other end and those go into channel 1/2 of the QSC Touchmix 8. Pan channels 1/2 L/R and hear the difference. You'll have to raise up the trim a little bit. It should have an improved sound from where you are right now especially at volume.
@@AaronStrawnI don’t have the touchmix but I did notice you’re running your controller into “mic” inputs on the mixer so that’s why it’s barely turned up and it’s full volume. You may be able to just change a setting to switch those to line inputs without having to switch to using TRS going into the mixer.
Thank you for posting this. Just got my Maui 28 g3s and took them to my first gig this past weekend. I brought my RCF 705 Sub just in case it wasn’t loud enough for my MC cause he likes to go loud! While doing sound check me and him was impressed. Initially we weren’t even clipping. But as soon as we got people on the dance floor (about 60 guests max) I was hitting the clip light the whole night. I never distorted but at that point I wished I setup my sub. Anyways I was just surprised how easily I was clipping. I will try to play with your settings and if doesn’t improve maybe return and get the 44g2s instead but Damm they are expensive!
The 44s should be the answer. I've heard nothing but amazing things about them. For now I'm sticking with the 28s because of how portable they are. I play in the limit almost all night, but you're right, no distortion. They even say that's ok. You just don't want to be all red. I'm gonna bring an extra sub now for bigger crowds
@@AaronStrawn Yea I heard about how heavy are they... If I am going to go bigger I would consider evox 12 just because of the weight. I love how the LD look better the evox 12s personally.
Thanks for the video, Aaron. But I have a couple of questions for you. I see where you had your gain set on channel 1 and 2 that's coming from your controller. Where is your main volume set on your master output that's going out to your speaker? Also, do your QSC mixer have a A.F.S. that can help you from feeding back?
Have the main out of the controller at 1 oclock. Yes, the Touchmix has AntiFeeback suppressor which is awesome. But even with that, those quiet talkers are tough to pick up. So I'm trying to push as much as I can out of my speaker. I may dial it back to 75% though. What do you think?
Ok. I wish I was with you to talk to you. Your staging of the the fader and trim on the board is correct. Stay out of the upper level of the meter. Yup. Maxing out your speaker, not something I would ever do. 75% at most. However, I do not own the same speaker or mixer as what you’re using. So, just for me, I’d never push an internal amp on any powered speaker past 75%. I believe all distortion and possible destruction lies beyond that threshold. Your qsc mixer is there has the ability to get you the same DB or below for a cleaner sound. The other reason for not maxing an amplifier is the what if. What if something clips or a capacitor goes out on either your mixer or controller, you’ll definitely lose that speaker. And the ears of anyone in front of it. For me, I don’t believe it’s worth the couple DB, to max out the amp. Just speaking from experience, I had a mixer blow a capacitor before. It was unpleasant to say the least.
Great advice here. I can pull it down to 75% for the dance and maybe push it to 90% during speeches? That's why I maxed it. I want the speaker the loudest, to help so I don't have to crank the mic channel and manage feedback. That make sense?
@@AaronStrawn ya. I hear ya but I manage the feedback by telling the emcee or the people speaking to get the mic closer to their mouths, if they want it louder. I totally understand people who move the mic to the left, while, talking to the right …. I hear ya, but I won’t crank it, I just remind them. Talk into the mic. We shouldn’t max the speaker to compensate. Just my thoughts.
Curious to hear what people say. I usually leave my speakers (Evolve 50's) at 0, and crank everything else up. But I've been dealing with mic feedback, so clearly I need help.
JMO but I would never adjust your speakers to 100% that is a lot of strain on the amplifiers, and you gotta remember at the end of the night, when the adrenaline is flowing and your focusing on selecting the best songs do you really want to be checking your controller levels constantly to make sure your not peaking your speakers. You would be better off running 0db on controller negative 10db on your touch mix and then like 80% on your speakers.
