Hi Amy! You bring sunshine to my day! Vacation in September with sewing machine. Uh oh! Where's my cutting mat? On the dining table at home, ready to be packed with sewing supplies. The dollar in town did not have any. Luckily JoAnn fabrics in town. Yes, even a sale going on. 5 by 7 worked just fine. I use a smaller ruler for 1.5 inch blocks. Oh, can I see it ok? Marion.

Maybe use an 18mm rotary cutter with the 1.5” block lock ruler. 😊

I buy those little cutting mats at the dollar tree. I use it when I’m having to square up a lot of trimming up blocks.

Oh yes! Here we are again, saving the same little pieces. I'm eager to see what you make with those 1-1/2" HSTs. I keep 'em, too, and have become enamored making little mini quilts with them.

My fav is my 4-1 tool that has a burnisher, seam ripper & stiletto. Easy to pack and take for sew dates😊

I love love my omnigrid mat too! The firmness of the press side is wonderful. And I always have a mechanical pencil at hand along with gridded paper.

Thanks, Amy. That was a fun episode! I love 1 1/2" squares, HSTs, and strips. It's my go-to size. Even though they're stupidly expensive, I bought the 1 1/2" and 2 1/2" bloc locs - didn't know they existed! I was using the larger bloc loc for small HSTs, but the small ones will save a lot of time and fiddling. And bought a small cutting mat, too. I've tried at lease three rotating mats, and they just make me nuts.

I'm currently trimming 1.5" HSTs with my 6.5" Blockloc. I'm trying to minimise the number of rulers I buy, but I can definitely see that the 1.5'" Blockloc with a tiny mat would speed up my process. And it's cute!
Yes. I forget to mention that the big block will trim all the sizes because I use the small one so often! Thanks for the reminder!

Hello Beautiful!😍 I just watched Merry Mabel Market making a “Donut” quilt. When she does her stitch and flip corners she makes the tiny HST’s with the extra corners. She’s planning a video with what she makes with them. I can’t wait to see what you make with yours. I just acquired the Omnigrid press and cut mat. I LOVE it. ( I got it for $12 at an auction🎉) Happy cutting.

My favorite duo is a 28mm rotary cutter and swivel mat for trimming and traveling.

I cannot love my bloc loc rulers more! But the best thing: I have a reallly old tv tray that has a small lip on the edges, my omnigrid flip mat fits perfectly inside this lip! I take that old tv tray to retreats, put it next to me, and I can cut or press without having to get up!!

Wow! I don't think I would ever actively use 1.5 inch blocks certainly not enough to create a whole quilt! I have never seen a sandpaper mat...I am intrigued ❤
I’m sure at some point I will believe that the entire quilt of tiny square is the worst idea I’ve ever had😆. The sandpaper board is really a useful tool. Almost a singular use item BUT it really works!
My favorite tool combo right now is my stripology xl ruler and a five pound hand weight (I've been doing a lot of cutting, lol!)

I'm not a fan of Frixon pens either. I don't like that they don't completely disappear and i don't like the way they drag on the fabric leaving an erratic line.
