39 Bolt Action Alliance Battle Report: Germany vs USA, Normandy 1944

  • This weeks Bolt Action Battle Report sees Rick return with his German Defense of the Rhine force, 1200 points, with Hitler youth, waffen ss and grenadiers take on my US atmy rangers and US Army to capture objectives as supply drops from the Bolt Action Alliancerules… the battle is set in Normandy, France..
    See the battle unfold as the armies go head to head and battle for points.
    Set in an small village in Normandy, France the two armies collide in an epic battle to secure valuable resources and prevent the others from doing the same.
    Another great battle, fantastic board and a few laughs and banter along the way…
    …but who will win, watch and see!

    Where'd did you get the terrain? Are there any STL files for the buildings and fences?

      Hi, unfortunately we don’t have a 3D printer between us, maybe one day! I would love one for scatter terrain and other smaller bits for the board.
      The fences and barn are from Renedra, just painted and mounted on lollipop sticks.
      The house in the background is from Conflix.

    Very nice batrep! You use broken fences if a vehicle has driven through. Very cool. Does the fence lose its cover ability at this point?

      Hi glad you enjoyed the battle report, we enjoyed the game and so are please we could share it.
      Yes, we have the replacement fences for visual effects, and so instead of removing the section of fence we put the broken fence in, it then loses it cover ability where it is down (the width if the vehicle).

    Is that an oversized game mat you are using? Putting the hills under it is a great effect. Love your table and armies.

      The mat is a 6x4ft from Geek Villain, they are slightly larger by an inch or 2, but work perfectly with hills underneath it 👍🏻

    Is that a house rule you are using when shooting the Multiple Rocket Launcher at the building, or did you rule it as not a building? I've never seen anyone play that way. Also, are you cutting out adding a d6 to the pen roll when assaulting soft-skin vehicles?

      Hi the rules for the multi rocket launcher are as we understand them, we have read them several times and the radius is 6inches from the blast template, so believe it is correct.
      Assaulting vehicles is different to shooting, where we shoot we should have rolled on the damage chart, there are several times I roll a 1 to damage… but with assault, like infantry you roll straight to damage and if the vehicle hasn’t moved you can kill on 4,5 or 6.

      ​@@theministryofminiatures I would check that rule again. You hit on a 4-6 and then you rule a D6(Damage roll) and add your hits. If the Damage roll is greater than or equal to the armor on a soft/open vehicle, it is destroyed. There maybe an Errata that says roll on the damage chart, but I could not find it.

      @jasonbell4988 - yes you are correct, each hit from the assault is a +1 to the damage roll, same as shooting small arms… fortunately we both used the rule the same and both had 5 hits, so would have only needed anything but a 1 to destroy it… but now I can make sure that this correct in future battles 👍🏻

      FYI
      At a tournment, my son assaulted a jeep/motorcycle 3 times and managed to stun it 3 times. That is the only reason I remembered about the Damage chart until searching the Reddit.
      I agree that you both balanced each other out with the way you played it.

      1.1) Soft skinned vehicles:
      To damage them we need a 6+But to we need to consult the "vehicle damage" chart?
      Yes. Just like a vehicle with heavy armor.
      Or does it get destroyed autmatically at a hit of a 6?
      Nope. You roll to see what kind of damage happens. First, roll To Hit. If you hit, roll To Damage. You need to roll a 6+ to damage. If you damage, roll on the chart.
