Downloaded the preset. At the final step the camera throws an error "This file cannot be loaded". I've tried twice. ??? Great video.

@@Lytchizprod A lot of people noted the same problem. Very disappointing that the author hasn’t replied, issued a corrected file, or even acknowledged that he harvested all our emails in trade for a file we can’t use.
@whoismatt Does not work with neither Ver. 1.10 or 1.11 Matt. If you've since updated your camera I strongly suggest you replace the (now outdated) file this video is pointing everyone to. I'm sure everyone appreciates and is thankful that you went through the process of saving and sharing your A7IV camera settings but it might backfire if all people get is the "The file cannot be loaded" message. It's probably worth doing if you value your popularity since, unfortunately, people take a lot of things for granted these days. Thank you.
@ I’m on 1.11 and loaded his file just fine. You might consider reformatting your card and trying the instructions again?

Any chance you have a video showing how to download the files onto the Sony’s? I recently bout the A7iv and the A1 and modeled the setting off your A7siii video and how I have come to like the settings. But just did everything manually.
I ended up putting Preset 2 to 4K 60fps and Preset 3 to HD-SI 120fps in S&Q mode (you need to change the mode to S&Q when you put it on Preset 3, but not hard). You can achieve 120fps in S&Q as 10-bit 4:2:2 and there is no crop.. it is in HD though. But with quality set to 0 on slog-3 it looks great (detail is usually -7, and yes, it saves at 0 under the preset). I recommend this for anyone wanting 120 :)
You also need a V-90 card with it in HD-SI. If you do the same settings in HD then just a V-60 card.

Hey Matt thanks for all your tips on your videos. Just recently did my first wedding video gig and used my sony a7c with 85 mm f1.8 and Tamron 17-28 as my A camera and used Sony ZV1 as my B camera. I was thinking of selling the ZV1 and getting the A7 IV to use as my A camera. My question is should I invest In the A7 IV first, or a better Lens?
How do you get your zoom display to zoom so smoothly? Mine is jolty
Based on my personal experience using the dial to switch between presets is generally not a good idea, mainly because it is very easy to forget to switch back to the required settings for the particular moment you are filming. It is especially risky if you forgot the dial on the 24/25p setup but you are filming something where you gonna want slowmotion. For this particular reason I just don't mess with the presets and that dial is going to be on the M mode all day on my camera. A very nice alternative that I found and that works better for me is to have the framerate and the file format as options mapped in the Fn key menu settings, something that you can only do on the A7IV (the SIII can't do it unfortunately).
Is the focal length custom button necessary if you only shoot on zooms?
Can you record 4k/24 fps one Auto mode?

Fact: "IBIS 3rd party lenses". I've a Sigma 24-70 art lens for my a7iv. You ment for better IBIS the focal length need to be adjust manually for 3rd party lenses. What should I choose in my case? 24mm, 70mm or everytime when I change my zoom range?

For some reason I can’t change my shutter speed or aperture in the 2 and 3 custom dial mode but it changed for the first one. What am I missing here?

I have this question, too! I believe the cam needs to be in M (manual) mode to adjust shutter speed. So in essence dont be in mode 1,2, or 3 when making these adjustments. I might be wrong tho. GL!
Hey Matt, I've just bought an a7 IV and I'm trying to find information about weather sealing or at least an IP rating from Sony. Do you know much about the weather sealing on this camera?

But it's on a7siii so kinda don't know about a7iv, but I personally wouldn't trust the weather seal completely, a little rain or splash maybe but full on rain, nope.
really helpful tutorial. The only thing is that you'd cut the clip too early when setting the custom keys or dials which made it pretty hard to follow along
nice tuto. Do you have tutos on making timelapse in video mode with tips and tricks on aperture,... ? I am beginner so i have set PP to PP11 cinetone. Not easy to switch to slog3 according to your other video (800iso, +1.7 expo, 94+ zebra,...). perhaps i should make a 25fps prest for PP11 and same one for PP8 ? I am very surprised instead of changing custom buttons for video you changed the ones for photo instead and, according to other tutos from jason vong, mark galler,... i think they are not the best choices for photo in term of focus area, eye detection,....
Hello Matt I just downloaded the presets but I got a DAT file. I'm on a PC. Can you or anyone else help?
I stopped using the preset modes a while back because although it sounds like it would be a time saver, you quickly realize you actually WANT more settings to stay the same across modes than not. Any adjustment you make to the memorized setting (WB, audio levels, AF, etc) will actually dissappear the second you switch to the next M, and never come back - a completely unusable system. Might work for vlogging from the same exact lighting setup you saved the settings in, but that's about it.
On a shoot you'll be adjusting settings throughout the day from location to location, and the memory will keep reverting to the OLD AF, WB, PP & audio settings at every switch of the dial. It's truly unusable. Sony could just have added a shutter angle function, locking every framerate to a correct shutter speed and memory recall wouldn't need to exist.
I am getting this when trying to trigger my camera with the Sony Camera App and Monitor + "movie record starts with movie shoot button still image shoot is invalid" every time I try to press record from Monitor + app and the Sony app does nothing when I click the start record button on the app? Can anyone please tell me why this happens? Sony A7IV in movie shooting dial? It is like the triggers on The Sony app and Monitor + record buttons are acting like photo triggers nd not movie record? Help please!! Thanks
Hey @whoismatt, thanks for the great videos and sharing your preset. This is a probably a pretty basic question compared to ones you’ve received but I’ve primarily been photo-centric but picked up the A7IV because I wanted to start playing around with video. With your preset file, can I use your settings just for the video side of things and can I have my own or anyone else’s presets for the photography side of things? I’m assuming yes based on the sub dial mode I’m in (photo/video/s&q) but wanted to ask. Thanks again!
Yes you can have separate settings for photo and video. You’ll need to manually add settings to my preset if you want to add to the photo side of things though
Hey Matt, I have a question in regards to using ISO. So many people, including you, suggest to set it at the base iso 800 for slog3. I understand it produces a cleaner image so that's why you use it, but it's tough to keep the MM at the right exposure due to changing light situations especially when vlogging or just filming in situations where lighting changes a lot. I find it easier to change the ISO to auto and set the MM at the desired exposure. What are your thoughts on that? thanks in advance!
So I just watched your a7iv setup for film making video that explains how the dynamic range can be affected when using different ISOs from the two base ISOs. So I guess the question is: is the image quality compromised that much when using auto ISO and MM set to exposure vs locking it into a base ISO and having a fluctuating exposure? Because you could argue that the video footage is also "compromised" with the fluctuating exposure as opposed to the fluctuating ISO when having the MM locked in. Hopefully that makes sense, thanks again!
If I’m using Active Stab what shutter speeds should I be using? I heard they need to be a tad higher?

I downloaded the file but every time I try to load it I get an error saying "The file cannot be loaded". I had to go in and do the 2nd part to add the camset folder and then deleted that file but can't get it to work.

"The file cannot be loaded" - I had to do all the changes mannualy. Maybe because the firmware version is different? Mine is is still 1.0 because Sony it is not allowing to download new versions anymore.
Yeah you might need to update your firmware version
I recently purchased a new camera and attempted to customize the settings using the top dial. I customized the 1 for 24 frame rate. tried setting 2 for a frame rate of 30 and 3 for a frame rate of 60, but the shutter speed did not change. What could be causing this issue?
Sounds like you might be in aperture priority mode not full manual mode

After setting 3 file formats like 24p,30p &60p can I drag a 30p clip to the 24p timeline?
Yes but you will still need to slow it down to 24fps in your editor

Yes - I was curious about the 30fps as well. I've experimented with both 30 and 24 but typically use 24 because I'm usually shooting in low light, indoor conditions. How are you typically using 30fps, Matt? Thanks for all your tips! So very useful.

I accidentally changed some setting and when tapping the screen bc I want tracking focus on something it changes to spot focus. Anybody know where I can change this? Was on set all day today and could not get focus tracking for the life of me. Thanks for any help!! 🙌🏻 Sony A7IV by the way.
Top right of the screen has a small square that you can tap that will change between track focus and spot focus when filming
@@whoismatt Thanks, I will try that, but I am pretty sure I tried that, before I never had too, just tracking was enabled and disable from the little square. I never had the Spot focus appear so I am pretty sure I configured something wrong by accident.. ? That's why I love your channel, you always seem to respond to questions. I am sure before if I would tap anywhere in the screen it would track what ever I tapped on automatically.
@@whoismatt Weird, I just tried it again and now it works, but on set yesterday ALL day I trie tapping to track something and only the spot focus would pop up, it was driving me crazy and embarrassing. Any ideas why that may have been popping up instead of tracking?

@@alexparkinson3077 You are probably in PAL, wich is correct if you are living in Europe. If you are in the US you should change to NTSC.
