Matt, this is awesome! I just got my Sony A7IV on Monday and just starting getting it set up! Although the download may be easier, I think I am going to watch both videos as they will teach me some things along the way, to better learn these menus!
Could you go over why we would choose XAVC S instead of HS or the -I modes? Won't the H265 codec provide better quality at the same bitrate at least for 4K? As for the -I modes probably only specific use cases call for recording a video with full I-frames, the storage cost is just insane with those. (I found some advice saying it's useful for random movement like confetti, snow, maybe the sun sparkling off of turbulent water. These track because they are busy motion that push the video codec hard enough for artifacting to be noticeable)

A request for future new Sony camera setup guides: please tell us where the overheating setting is at the beginning of the video. My new a7iv kept overheating while I was adjusting settings while watching this video until I got far enough into it to learn how to set to the higher limit. Took me a good hour to go through your 40 minute video. Otherwise, I find your videos helpful and easy to understand. Please keep up the good work!
My Process of getting to know each setting in the camera :) : Just Notes up to 24 minutes. Working on completing the whole video. Thought this might help someone. A7IV Menu Set to Video Mode Set to Manuel My Menu Settings: This will allow customization of the P1,2,3 and the ***Red Shooting “Icon”*** **1 Image Quality** File Format > Select XAVC S 4K Movie Settings > Rec Frame Rate 24p >Record Setting >100M 4:2:2 10 Bit S&Q Settings > Used to slow down footage in your camera. Matt Suggests that we slow it down in our Video Software. Proxy Settings > a separate video to set these as this will save time in your post production APS- C S35 Shooting > 1.5x : > Auto 1. aps -c lens 2. Just want to zoom in with a full frame lens on a subject. Breathing Compensation> Native Sony Lens use with these. 1. **Format Menu** Record Media Settings > Simult. Matt doing well with the A7iv but have been shooting both pic's and videos of my sons band and can't find anything online as far as the comparrison between the mics that are on the camera and a shot gun mic like the rhode video mic pro. I shot a show recently with the on camera mics and it sounded pretty good. I used to always use my shot gun mic with my D5 and was never really knocked out by the sound quality. Maybe there isn't much call for this kind of comparison, but in your experiance have you had good luck with the on cameras mics. thanks
Hey. I wouldn’t recommend using the on-camera mic for any professional work. The mic quality is very flat. I can recommend the Sony ECM-M1 (but it’s pricey, so if you aren’t doing much professional work, you may be able to do without it).

Unfortunately, the attempt to upload the video setting according to the instructions you attached led at the end of the process to receiving the following message on the camera: "This file cannot be loaded". Do I have to build the setting myself step by step or do you have a solution to the problem I encountered? Thanks
Thank you Matt for video but I cannot load your settings. Mine A7IV says "This file cannot be loaded". It has 124kb like the one from camera. Probably it does not work for users in PAL system. Europe.
Apparently the setup file that you've made available for download won't work for sonya7iv with updated software version 1.10. I've watched both the videos but still wanted to use your file as I wouldn't miss any setting. Thanks for both the videos. It is really helpful.

@@malozfilms Hey Marc!!! So, I used the Sony A7IV, great camera, BUT the crop is bad at 60fps! So I would have to buy a new wide angle lens for real estate work! I'm still using my sony A7iii and upgrading the 120fps @1080 to 4k in post, but I'm going to get the Sony A7Siii AND keep my sony A7iii for my b camera AND for photos!

Hi Matt, I tried following your settings for my Sony a7iv but my Shutter Speed doesn’t show let’s say 1/50 but 50.0. Whenever I use the dial to adjust the shutter, it just adjusts the number like goes to 100+. How can I change this so I can have the normal Shutter Speed numbers?

@Matt - the settings file doesnt work with A7IV cameras that have the latest firmware, i.e. 1.10 (re-released 8th Sep) - could you load and re-save after updating and post a new version?
Matt, I am getting a folder named 7M4 instead of "Name" inside my SD card when I do your fix for the camset not being there. Any ideas? I Followed the instructions to a T and I even see your DAT file on the camera then get an error that says it cannot load.
Even just updated everything to the latest version. Still no luck. Guess I will just follow along on the whole video which isn't an issue, just not ideal haha.

I am just curios, why dont you shoot iv the highest Bitrate ( 240, in 24fps) but in 100 ? SI the image really good enough for grading etc. in that B-Rate?
I was 24 minutes through your video when my camera "overheated" and turned off to "allow it to cool." Now I'm terrified of this camera as a wedding videographer!! Have you heard of this issue?
Hi, I followed the instructions in the pdf, but in the end it says "This file can not be loaded". Could it possibly have anything to do with me using a German version? I think there are two versions of the A7IV, one for the EU (including German language) and one for the rest of the world (still including most languages, even some EU languages such as French and Spanish, but not German).
Hi Matt. Just made an upgrade from a6500 to a7IV. Really appreciate all of your help and insights in setting things up for us. I do have a problem though with the a7IV settings preset. I'm not sure where I am going wrong, but after following the instructions I get a message "This file cannot be loaded". What step could I be messing up on?
I followed all the directions for the preset, but the camera is saying preset can not be loaded. Don't know if anyone else had the same issue. But thought I would check to see if anyone is aware of a fix for this. Thanks!
I tried to load your custom settings into my 7M4 and I got an error message "This file cannot be loaded" and it seems I am not the only one who tried this. FYI.
So sad that in europe, we don't have 25p in XAVC HS... Only 50p -_- If it was not for the crop, I would actually shoot everything in 50p, with 360° shutter and 180° for slow mo, just because files are smaller 😅
Hi, I am using Sony A7iv and I am having a problem. It's autofocus works fine but for the past few days I can't see the tracking box on the face or even eye... it has disappeared. Any idea how to bring it back?

You forgot to say that if we shoot in s-log 3 we need a PHD in color grading as the footage that comes out straight off camera is garbage.

@@malozfilms Hey Marc!!! So, I used the Sony A7IV, great camera, BUT the crop is bad at 60fps! So I would have to buy a new wide angle lens for real estate work! I'm still using my sony A7iii and upgrading the 120fps @1080 to 4k in post, but I'm going to get the Sony A7Siii AND keep my sony A7iii for my b camera AND for photos!
@@stephenmason5773 Thanks for your answer Stephen. I totally understand, if I had the A7III I'd do the same, you already have an awesome photo camera and it make sense to get the A7SIII. Unfortunatelly Im switching from APSC system so I think I'll go for the A7IV and grab a wide angle lens because I'm only gonna have one camera and I'll need it for photos too. Hi Matt, I tried following your settings for my Sony a7iv but my Shutter Speed doesn’t show let’s say 1/50 but 50.0. Whenever I use the dial to adjust the shutter, it just adjusts the number like goes to 100+. How can I change this so I can have the normal Shutter Speed numbers?

first i was on version 1.05 and it gave the same error . then i updated it to ver.1.10 and still the same error.

Hey Matt, I've often contemplated purchasing the S3 and then along came the IV. I'm primarily a 'video' shooter. How would you compare the two? Does the IV stand up against the S3 when it comes to 'video' work? thanks for your always informative content.
It’s the same thing, but a7siii has a high base ISO and shoots 4K 120fps. The a7iv shoots 4K 60fps but with a 1.5x crop.
A7iv is still great for video. If you can’t afford the a7siii get the iv

@Matt - the settings file doesnt work with A7IV cameras that have the latest firmware, i.e. 1.10 (re-released 8th Sep) - could you load and re-save after updating and post a new version?

Matt, I am getting a folder named 7M4 instead of "Name" inside my SD card when I do your fix for the camset not being there. Any ideas? I Followed the instructions to a T and I even see your DAT file on the camera then get an error that says it cannot load.
Even just updated everything to the latest version. Still no luck. Guess I will just follow along on the whole video which isn't an issue, just not ideal haha.

It means the lens is made for a crop sensor camera and the full frame equivalent lens would be 31.5mm

I am just curios, why dont you shoot iv the highest Bitrate ( 240, in 24fps) but in 100 ? SI the image really good enough for grading etc. in that B-Rate?
It’s good enough and the file size is much smaller
I was 24 minutes through your video when my camera "overheated" and turned off to "allow it to cool." Now I'm terrified of this camera as a wedding videographer!! Have you heard of this issue?

Hi, I followed the instructions in the pdf, but in the end it says "This file can not be loaded". Could it possibly have anything to do with me using a German version? I think there are two versions of the A7IV, one for the EU (including German language) and one for the rest of the world (still including most languages, even some EU languages such as French and Spanish, but not German).

Hi Matt. Just made an upgrade from a6500 to a7IV. Really appreciate all of your help and insights in setting things up for us. I do have a problem though with the a7IV settings preset. I'm not sure where I am going wrong, but after following the instructions I get a message "This file cannot be loaded". What step could I be messing up on?

I followed all the directions for the preset, but the camera is saying preset can not be loaded. Don't know if anyone else had the same issue. But thought I would check to see if anyone is aware of a fix for this.

I tried to load your custom settings into my 7M4 and I got an error message "This file cannot be loaded" and it seems I am not the only one who tried this. FYI.
I have the latest firmware installed, I tried it with the 1.01 installed, that didn't work either. I am now up to 1.10, still no bueno.

If it was not for the crop, I would actually shoot everything in 50p, with 360° shutter and 180° for slow mo, just because files are smaller 😅

Hi, I am using Sony A7iv and I am having a problem. It's autofocus works fine but for the past few days I can't see the tracking box on the face or even eye... it has disappeared. Any idea how to bring it back?
