I have watched 100's of videos on this topic and you are the only person that makes perfect logical sense for setting up the way you did. So simple yet super useful and logical!! Thank you!!!!
For folks that want to know how to recall camera settings to a custom button, similar to the dial (but not as many options) this is how you do it (by the way it baffles me how incomprehensible the Sony manual is). I have a Sony A7R5. Go to "Shooting" in the menu, and go to page 4 (nope not the customization gearbox area). Page 4 is "Shooting Mode". The last selection in the short list of shooting modes is: "Reg. Custom Shoot Set". Oh my! Go and open that one up. So now what you have are 3 memory slots (in your camera meaning you can use again and again) and if you select "Recall Custom hold 1" well you can now select what you want stored. Things like shoot mode, drive mode, ISO, Focus Mode, etc.. Now if it isn't on the list, you can't store it. Then hit "Register" and now these setting are stored to that special memory slot (forever I believe until you hit Factory Default). How? Would you? Put that? On? A? Custom button? This proved to be rather aggravating to figure out. Here is what you do. Go to the yellow tool box on the menu, "Setup", go to page 3 "Operation Customize", then if you are doing this for stills "Custom Key/Dial Set", and then pick your button, like "C3" for example (the one I did and setup according to Omar's video). NOW FOR THE COMPLETELY NON INTUITIVE PART. When you have the customized settings up, go to "Shooting" and then go to page 4 "Shooting Mode" and then... There they are! Completely different setting for this page, including "Camera Set Memory". You would want to assign your customized button in this example to "Recall Custom hold 1". QED.
Omar, you can customize the button to Shot Result Preview to fix the flash issue you were talking about. That way you don't have to turn off the flash each time.
Thanks for the video Omar! I use the "C1" and "C2" positions on the mode dial of my A7iii for my go-to street photography (f8, 1/160, auto ISO, B&W) and fast-moving subjects (f4, 1/1250, auto ISO, standard profile), respectively. That way I can switch from whatever I have in Manual to the appropriate settings with a twist and a click.
I use 1 of my buttons for hold-deactivating face-tracking. Since I also am mostly a people shooter, my default af mode is tracking, but if, for ex, I want to grab some quick inanimate shots like food or the room decorations, I just hold this button down to temporarily cancel tracking.
Some really great suggestions in there Omar. Thanks. I agree with another comment about a button for My Menu. I rarely use My Menu because it means going into the menu so this is great.
What a great idea to put a custom Eye AF button right next to your AF-ON button (and turning Face/Eye AF off). Very interested in trying this out! Thank you!
The display button cycles through a number of info screens, one of which just shows settings (no live view). Useful info, but tap the FN button at the all info screen and one item will “light up” - navigate up/down/left/right to select different items to light up. When lit, press the center button to change the value of the lit item. It’s another form of function menu.
I used to set my ISO by same as you with the spinning wheel, but as an event photographer it's too easily accidently bumped & switched. Now I just set it empty and use the default right button as ISO. Great sharing anyway. 👏 ❤
Hey Omar, oh wise one, as per, you demonstrate some fabulous ways to make a camera work for you and even tho I’m not just a Sony user, I found this gave me lots of ideas to make my Fuji work better for me too. Keep ‘em coming cowboy🤣👍
I had the lens button set to a high frames per second drive mode with one of the 3 button presets. This way i could stay in single shooting and just turn on continuous shooting when needed. Helps with overshooting 😅 Another very useful feature Sony allows is to reduce the number of focus zones available while giving you the possibility to assign a button to cycle through them, (it remembers the last position of every zone also) with this you don't even have to lift your finger on another Button but could just cycle through 2-3. I had a small tracking zone, the biggest zone and a medium zone set to the AF On Button. The last one worked very well to shoot non - face/eye subjects or to specify exactly where to look for the eye. Iam curious if your way with eye af off by default is quicker 🤔 can't test it any more cause switched to Fuji 😅
You explain things in a very clear "common sense" manner..........however jumping over from being a Canon shooter to a Sony user presents a whole different "dashboard" which I am still after a two months trying to remember the "default" settings. Jumping into customizing would tend to confuse me even more. Very good presentation however. Thanks Omar.
If you were to buy a camera today for documentary/ vlog content, what camera would you choose, fx3, fuji H26, canon 6 mark ii, or any other suggestions? I also occasionally take pictures of great content.
Hi Omar! Thanks for your inspiring video :) I try to use your two buttons Autofocus method and I have trouble with A7III to do this. AF on eye works but flexible spot and AF ON not. I think that A7III doesnt have this tracking spot or maybe I am missing something? How you did this method on your A7III before you moved to A7IV? Or you did it in a different way? Thanks again for video and have a nice day!

Ok, I have spent a few hours trying to figure out how to set the AEL button to function as the small little center focus you're describing, and I am at a loss. I've had this camera for about a week and can't even progress to practicing with it because of the learning curve on the set-up. If you read this, feel free to speak to me as if I'm a toddler. How can I change the function of that button in the manner in which you describe? Thank you!!
Ok, little toddler lol.... 1. YELLOW SUITCASE 2. GO TO NUMBER 3 (OPERATION CUSTOMIZE) 3. CHOOSE "CUSTOM KEY/DIAL SET" 4. YOU WILL SEE "REAR 1" BUTTONS. CHOOSE #1 (AEL BUTTON) 5. LEAVE YELLOW SUITCASE MENU 6. GO TO PURPLE AF/MF MENU 7. GO TO #2 FOCUS AREA 8. CHOOSE AF AREA REGISTRATION AND TURN IT ON 9. NOW EXIT THE MENU AND CHOOSE THE FOCUS POINT YOU WANT TO ASSIGN TO THAT BUTTON (SMALL ONE FOR ME) 10. HOLD DOWN THE FN BUTTON UNTIL THAT AF POINT GETS REGISTERED.
I love your eye focus/normal focus/pin point af - awesome idea. Seems foolproof to me (coming from a Fuji X-T3, that tracking looks absolutely incredible). Great video as always :-)
Funny that you set the menu in thumbs range. Im using A6400 and everytime I got an A7 in my hands the menu button placement on the left puts me off. =) I wonder though, how comfortable are you with your A7C? I had been considering the camera a couple of times, but the lack of buttons is a deal breaker.
sir, can you please make a video about tripods? I mean budget tripods? under 50usd to 100usd. I am from Bangladesh. I love the way you shoot events. I use a Nikon d750 with a 50mm 1.8d lens.
Omar great video, unfortunately I am not a Sony user, so this doesn't help me. I am a Nikon user the Z50, so I have configured my camera using the limited button setup for Nikon cameras.
I was watching Fro Knows Photo news fix and that video seemed to be much more crisp and clear than your video. You look a bit out of focus? Normally your video quality is very good.
I like the video but I am also very disappointed in it. How is a normal person suppose to figure out how to record a bunch of camera settings and assign it to a button???? I have waisted 2 days trying to figure this out and still can't do it!
I have watched 100's of videos on this topic and you are the only person that makes perfect logical sense for setting up the way you did. So simple yet super useful and logical!! Thank you!!!!
Recently switched to the Sony A series and I am so relieved that you also create videos about Sony cameras 😊😊😊 Stay zany and awesome, Omar!!!
Proof that you're awesome when you watch this video even if you don't own a Sony camera😅
Thanks!
Same here :D
😅 same here. Omar is a really good and nice guy 😊

You're right!! This is why we should head over to your channel!!!! lol..Thanks, man.
Yes. I utilise a custom button set to ,{ Shot Result Preview } while using a Sony camera or a Trigger on the Hot-shoe.
Works perfect.
Thanks for the video Omar!

You da man Omar! Do u have a vid on the custom dial on top? I’ve heard speak of 3 different scenarios for 1 2 and 3.

Love your channel!!!!!🤓
I used to set my ISO by same as you with the spinning wheel, but as an event photographer it's too easily accidently bumped & switched. Now I just set it empty and use the default right button as ISO.
Great sharing anyway. 👏 ❤
Something to think about for using any camera. 👍
Hey Omar, oh wise one, as per, you demonstrate some fabulous ways to make a camera work for you and even tho I’m not just a Sony user, I found this gave me lots of ideas to make my Fuji work better for me too. Keep ‘em coming cowboy🤣👍
Thank you so much for such a detailed video on Sony setup, but I would like to see what settings you apply in Nikon, thank you.
I have a few Nikon settings videos already up!

i love yours clip, you seems to be very cool.
Thanks for this very informative video. BTW nice shirt, is it available for sale?

Omar, THANK YOU!! This was super-helpful!!
I've had my A7RV for a week. I so wish I had seen the first 2 minutes a week ago.
I didn't find the Eye AF option for the Sony a7rv
I love your eye focus/normal focus/pin point af - awesome idea. Seems foolproof to me (coming from a Fuji X-T3, that tracking looks absolutely incredible). Great video as always :-)

I use it for video mostly. For photography I’ve shot it aperture priority due to the lack of the extra dial.

Nice vid.
New Tudor ?
NTH barracuda. Because I wanted a Blackbay. 😂
@@ogonzilla nice! Looks sharp!

OMG! I haven't thought of having "My Menu" a custom button. I will definitely try it. As always this is a great content. Thanks for sharing, Omar!

But when fujifilm video?
Your comment is a perfect example of the most annoying comments I get when releasing a non-Fuji video. Thanks a bunch.
no Fuji, no party....
Fanboy alert. 😂
