- I played every Super Smash Bros. game in 2022. It went great! A fine start to my year. Just in time for the last of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC to end, too!

Who is your favorite character?
Pyra and Mythra. But if I had a choice for a second it would be captain falcon.
Mythra is honestly just cool and has that tomboy attitude. And captain falcon is just a cool character in general. Although I don't actually play him much.
In OG smash - donkey Kong (best grab in that game)

I've played every Smash game at the time when it was new, and while I never thought about it at the time, but man this series flat-out revolutionized the amount of extras and bonus content that can be packed into a single release. Brawl in particular still floors me to this day that they packed everything in there into a Wii disc
I still struggle to wrap my head around people saying Brawl is the worst SSB game. Have they never set foot outside of the multiplayer mode?
Been around for Smash since I was like 4 years old and the original came out on the N64. Got some form of nostalgia for each entry.
Same, except the game already came out by the time I was born, same goes with Melee, but N64 was still my first.

Brawl was one of the first games I got for the Wii one birthday, and I still hold it close to my heart to this day even if Ultimate is superior to every other Smash game.
Okay slow down turbo, melee exists remember..... Melee is not inferior to Ultimate lol and especially nowhere near inferior to Brawl!

@@DANCERcow melee is great... but i like n64 better. melee atmosphere is the best of the series with brawl very close to it. If brawl's colors were just a bit more saturated it would be amazing...
Smash 4 somehow is uglier than brawl despite brawl seeming like it should look worse...
smash ultimate is great, but once again, super desaturated for some reason..
This video reminded me how varied Melee was instead of just Final Destination Fox only. I really wish Smashs wackiness was more at the forefront at times

Cool video man, looking forward for part 2. One mode you don't mention in the Brawl section is Boss Rush, once you finish SSE you unlock that mode, is a really nice challenge
Still Wish Ultimate had a boss rush.
As opposed to having no single player modes whatsoever to where I'm bored senseless and want to kill myself.
Not helped by the online being bad and how everyone is just too damn paranoid over you coming to their house (All over a sickness that's no worse than the common fu).
Screw Ultimate in the ass and God bless Brawl for being so much fun offline.

Hey Niosai! This is the first video of yours I've watched and it was a fantastic retrospective; i've only gotten into Smash Ultimate in the last two years so it super interesting to find out the history of the game and in such a good way. Love this video man, and keen for part II!
Just a minor correction on the stickers in brawl. The stickers were stat boosters like how spirits are in smash ultimate. You would apply them in subspace and could use them in regular battle once you had a loadout saved over your character of choice. Also not every character could use every sticker. Some were strictly franchise based
You learn something new every day. I knew about the stickers, but I thought they were just that. Stickers. I didn’t know they had stats like in Ultimate. Also it’s interesting that they were franchise-based. I wonder why they didn’t keep that in Ultimate?
Can you then play every game in every franchise represented in Smash?
Edit: LOL no that would take a year or more because there are +200 games
Final Fantasy and Megami Tensei would take a year or more itself
@@Fall-oo6mt to be fair, not many of those games have representation or direct references in Smash.
For FF it's 7 obviously and the Advent Children movie along with Final Fantasy II specifically since it's the first appearance of the Chocobo which is a Mii Outfit.
Then venture into the first appearance of each summon (also Moogle) from spirits and the Midgar stage, so just FF1 for Bahamut and FF3 for the rest but also FF7 Remake for their renders.
There's Sephiroth's moveset to consider too so maybe add FF5 for origin and Dissidia NT for appearance but it's not that important.
As for SMT, P5 is obvious, P3 and P4 for the stage and Mii costumes, P1 for Igor's spirit and the best remixed song. Then Persona 5 Strikers for Sophie's spirit. aaaand that's it, no mainline SMT :( ... I even looked up if Joker's side special is in any of the MegaTen games but no, it's from P1 originally.
So 5 games only for each of these series plus one movie for reasons. Did I miss anything?
@@scoffeex1740 I don't think you missed anything. Though, Smash did make me want to play every (or most) Final Fantasy games. I already finished 1, 2, 3, 4, The After Years, 7, 7 Remake, 7 Rebirth, am halfway through 16, and played some of 15. Still a long way to go, but it's a start.

64 is my favorite simply because the series wasn't taken super seriously yet. They make all these fun items and stage hazards but the majority of people never want to use items or play with hazards on and treat the series like these super competitive games.

@@luigisnivy I don't have a problem with people that like to play competitively. I do have a problem with the community that acts like competitive is the only way to play.

I get that, I personally play competitively more often, but I also like ffas with items sometimes. I really like playing 1v1s with more balanced items though like Beast Balls 1v1s are so much fun
I turned off every item but the smash ball. I even turned off the final smash meter in ultimate. Yes I know you can use your final smash without the smash ball, but what’s the fun in that. Plus the final smash meter version of your final smash, is weaker.

Also be careful to not burn yourself out with content. I think you said this in your previous video, but playing a lot of games in a short amount time can burn you out.

Tripping was added to help combat the hyper aggressive play styles that existed in competitive melee
Brawl was the fuck competition entry where everything skill based was removed and bullshit was added to try and stop a competitive scene from appearing

Brawl also has the starfox crew talking if you taunt on that stage too.
About Brawls tourney mode; you can play it with only one person, the players menu is to choose whether its a 1v1, 1v1v1, or a 1v1v1v1

I started from Melee. Melee and Brawl my favorite games in the Smash series. The only Smash game I don't own/haven't played is Smash N64.

I don't know how well known this is? But I may have figured this trick out on a whim. For the gallery mode in Super Smash bro. Melee, you can actually choose which track you hear while viewing trophies. If you go to sound test, play any song and then go to the gallery, you'll hear that song in the background as your view the trophies :)

Not quite, they added tripping to get rid of dash dancing, (running back a forward quickly) they got rid of directional air dodge to kill wash dashing,
My first smash game was Melee and at the time I didn't know who most of the characters were as my Nintendo knowledge was very limited. For example I thought Link was Zelda and didn't know Samus was a girl (which surprised me when she showed up in Girl Power). My dad tried to convince me to wait for Brawl to come out since it was close to release at the time but I convinced him to get me Melee, and I'm glad I did. Speaking of Brawl I actually got it on launch day and is the one and only time I waited in line at Gamestop on midnight launch day to get it (the line was huge btw, stretching outside and around most of the inside). I even have the official strategy guide as well. As for Brawls graphics while I understand they're not for everyone I still like them myself.
I didn't play 64 until after 4 came out as I don't own a 64 (I eventually played it on Wii VC) and while it's definitely fun it doesn't hold a candle to later entries in my opinion.
I often play by myself since I have no friends so I often like to use multiple controllers at once when playing multiplayer games like this. I still have fun regardless though.
Something you missed: while the Codec calls are a neat easter egg another similar easter egg can be found in both Melee and Brawl. By doing a smash taunt on Corneria (also works in Brawl) and Lylat Cruise you can get a conversation with Star Fox/Wolf members.
I noticed most of your video is just listing modes sprinkled with very surface level commentary. I’d like to hear more of your personal thoughts and memories with these games
Dang man, my age is showing. Makes me sad to see how ambitious Smash was when it came to single player content. Challenge, coin/bonus, platform mode and adventure modes with different trophies? Special bosses based on time performance in BOTH single player modes? Just hurts my heart seeing how Adventure mode was culminated in Subspace Emissary.
Also, GigaBowser to this day still terrifies me. Dude looks absolutely insane.
In Melee , Play as Fox or Falco on Corneria and keep tapping left and right on the d-pad (quickly) and you'll get a nice interaction from the Star fox squad. And I think they also get more aggressive on the stage by shooting a little more than usual. Not sure about that part though. Could be my imagination.
Every "Smash Taunt" is done the same way. (Those "interactions" the Star Fox characters, Snake and Pit can have.)
A common misconception about this is that you need to 'mash the taunt buttons', but actually you just have to _very briefly tap one._
Specifically, you need to _tap the Down Taunt button_ for a _split-second_ (which, I believe is a 1-2 frame window).
If you end up repeatedly pressing a taunt button while they're _already_ taunting you're just wasting your time, only the initial input matters.
I really loved Smash Bros Brawl- I grew up playing Melee-...But that Story Mode- Aghhh. I would play it for HOURS, and I'd get my friends to come over, and we'd argue which character we were going to play. "No! I'm Captain Falcon!...You be stupid weak Olimar." "NO! YOU'RE OLIMAR!" I was so crushed with the newest Smash game- How they replaced the amazing open world, cutscene filled adventure with a flat map with only battles- Happy they kept the Boss Battles-....Ish...Either way. I would absolutely pay 100$ for a DLC of an added cutscene story mode for the game. They're missing a huge opportunity with that. There are desperate people (Like me) who would pay hundreds for that.

I don’t think the toy premise was meant to be taken literally. It’s supposed to be symbolic of how fights between a child’s favourite Nintendo characters in their imagination can be fulfilled.

As a competitive melee player, its easily the deepest entry. We are still finding and learning techniques as the years go on.
I'm assuming he won't cover Project M, but thats a brawl mod with the physics of melee. Super fun time.
I understand why people like each of the games. I liked smash 64 for what it is and it was my entry into the series. Fun but I don't need to go back to it. Played melee and it felt really awkward to move around in. I can wavedash and l cancel but it just feels so unnecessary. Obviously the most technical game in the series but it wasn't that fun for me. Single player mode was fun tho. Brawl is honestly my least favourite game. Everyone was always gushing about how good subspace emissary was,and tbh it saw mid. It's nice to have a little content to the story but the gameplay was just not for me. Tripping and lack of hitstun and all. I played smash 4 the least of them all. I got it and ultimate at the same time, tried them both, and settled on ultimate. It felt much more fun and had my bois ken and joker. It's my personal favourite in the series. All fun games,and I get why people have their favourites

@@dalethompson6853 If I remember right, people found that Brawl actually had _the same amount of hitstun_ as Melee.
The big difference was that it was possible to _air dodge_ *out* of hitstun pretty early
(and I _think_ aerials could also cancel it a bit later), though I don't recall specific numbers.

@@Niosai Fans are still working on these games. Melee is recently modded since they is a demo for beyond melee. Smash flash 2 development is coming to end since the developers are currently working on Fraymakers.

Niosai? You know, the memory card was not required to save the game for Super Smash Bros N64. It would only save through SRAM battery and not the controller PAK. When you said (through the title), "I played every Super Smash Bros game through 2022", and when you were playing Super Smash Bros N64, was that on VC for Wii? And do you have Smash 64 on VC for Wii too?
Gonna have to disagree that Melee has nothing bad with it. Melee accidentally became a good game for a community, but it is not a well-designed game.

It’s really not that big of a deal. If you’re just playing super casually like he is to make a series review, the minor camera jank it causes on some stages really doesn’t matter. The 16:9 function in slippi is really well implemented all things considered, it’s just obviously not recommended for competitive play. All of that considered it also makes the video look nicer, which is what he is going to be more concerned about than the minor gameplay drawbacks it brings.
