The fast forward "Helium" voice is hilarious - Yes "do your chores" & take care of yourself - and a "Awww" for the spider - I take them out too - unless it is a "Widow" they go out another way!!

I've been using wood pellets underneath my kiln dried shavings. Just one pellet layered and then an inch of shavings. It works so so so good! No smell at all and it saves money too, but more than that it works really good. I've tried fleece, shavings alone, pellets under fleece and the pellet / shaving combo is my all time fav! The guineas favorite too! They never looked so comfortable! It was so cute to see the all cuddled up like I never seen before! The pellets keep it so amazingly dry.

So very true I have 5 rescue guinea pigs and they are all on fleece bedding. As one of my guinea pigs cookie has allergies. Sadly my baby boy Snoopy he got sick over 2 weeks ago, he got a urine infection and the vets in the uk here perscribed him a few meds one was metacam which made him even sicker! Then he sadly stoped eating after me giving him the metacam! I do not advise giving a guinea pig this medication please ask for something else at the vets if you end up in this situation. Luckily I knew from watching your videos, Scottys and Saskias. That I had to start critical care syringe feeding him. Which I did, I also had my emergency care kit ready to go thanks to you all. I know that this saved his life, he is only 8 months old. I also spent most nights sacred to death that I would loose my baby. Most people don't realise how much there is to looking after guinea pigs, even I underestimated it. Though I'm so grateful to you all for passing all your knowledge onto everyone all over the world. As you all have helped save my baby Snoopys life i cannot thank you all enough 🐾🐾🐹💙💜💖

They really are work, but I find they are one of those animals that actually appreciates when their cage is clean, so that's nice. They get all excited and run and jump around. I have 13 piggies. 8 girls that live in a 10x10 c&c cage, 2 skinnie pigs that live in a 4x4 c&c cage, and 3 boys that all live alone, but next to each other in Midwest cages and we alternate between fleece and bathmats. On an average day it takes about 45 mins to spot clean, and if I'm changing out everything it takes about 2-2.5 hrs lol

One of my piggies flips his food bowl over every time, and tampered with his hay rack, so I stopped putting the food in the containers and now just spread it out in a large pile in the cage. It’s like the piggy was telling me that he didn’t want to eat out of a container...which makes sense, since they are naturally grazing animals.

With my Fibromyalgia, I found that the constant scooping of the bedding was painful for me. So, although fleece is probably more work and takes more steps, I find it to be easier on me and less physically taxing. I am able to stay on top of keeping the cages clean and having a hand vacuum to clean those poopies REALLY comes in “handy!” Lol

Had no idea. Thought "easy pet for my 10 year old" "YAY" said 10 year old. 2 weeks later with 2 growing 2 month old piggies in a pet store bought cage... several hours online, youtube, tik tok (tik tok made me do it to begin with lol) and now I'm ordering a 2x6 C&C cage, fleece liners, pads, mapping out setup, play area, toys, foods, vacuum sealing their daily meals (and meal planning lol). Cleaning out the little cage every single day..... Basically become obsessed with my "son's" new pets. LOL . Pet stores need to be a bit more up front. I'm loving these little girls though :)

I have had piggies on shavings and now I'm using fleece. I absolutely prefer the fleece. The mess from shavings was horrible, and with my asthma I really didn't like it. Not to mention the hassle of dragging it home from the store and it was expensive in the long run. I sew the fleece mats myself and yes, it's a bit annoying to have to wash them. From the first day I switched to fleece, I noticed a big change in my piggies. They were popcorning so much more and was even making zoomies around the cage, they never did that before. I am never going back to shavings, that's for sure. Love from Denmark

Great video! I call them piggy-chores, also. Soon as I get home from work in the morning, I do a piggy roll-call, and then poop removal, fresh pellets/water/hay, and replace funky fleece pads. And then it’s snuggles all around. Poop removal happens 2-3x day +. I’m a little OCD about that :)

    • @petuniafrompittsburgh
      @petuniafrompittsburgh 5 років тому +3

Did you know that those 25 cent fish can live well over a decade with proper care? My owner, Shark, says everyone should start with the pet they really want because they will be more motivated to take care of it. Some of our finned friends suffer badly from neglectfulness and ignorance. Cost isn't important. The promise someone makes when they bring a new pet home is.

I live in SouthWest Kansas and I rescued Emma and Snowball from a guy who was going to let them go off in the wild a couple months ago. I couldn't let that happen because Emma was pregnant. She had her litter of 2 girls and 3 boys but I have been having allergies since I got them and started to develop asthma symptoms and went to the doctor. The doctor confirmed my allergy was because of the guinea pigs. They told me to bring them to the local animal shelter because its only a matter of time and that my allergy gets worse and ended up giving me an Epi-Pen. I don't want to bring them to the shelter here in town because they are a kill shelter and they don't deserve that. I'm willing to go almost anywhere to find them a home but my allergies keep getting worse and honestly I am afraid that I might have a bad allergy attack and I'll have to be forced to bring them to my local animal shelter. Please if someone can help me. email me at monica.queen@g.sccc.edu I have two 8 Sqf large cages made out of the metal shelving and plenty if toys for them as well. Thanks to all who take there time to reach out to me with any ideas of what I can do and where I can take them!

Scotty does your cockatiels interact with your guinea pigs? I would love to see a video about guinea pig and other animals interactions telling what animals can and cant do this

It's important to make sure that any animals that come in contact with your guinea pigs are supervised. And that their personalities are 100% vetted.

What is the small fleece you put under the wooden hidey?

Great job Scotty! How far do you live from the pig rescue and it looks like your pretty secluded out there in the desert, Is there any one near by? Ty!

Scotty, how are you able to hold the pigs enough and give them attention that they need, beings there are so many? Great video by the way. 😁

Glad to see I'm not the only one that has this trouble 😋
Just wondering though, Scotty, how do you get all the hay off the fleece? Mine always seems to have "cling-ons" that won't come off...not to mention all the fur 🤔

Now that I live out in the desert I can go outside and Shake It Off

@@ScottysAnimals I do that, but it gets caught in the fibres so when I wash it they remain stuck in it. The hairs seem to cling too. I'm just hoping it's not a health hazard if it all sticks on the fleece

My one piggy is so messy. He takes a mouthful of pellets, then goes to the water and makes a big mess. I just don't know what to do. And I tried moving the pellets far over, but that doesn't work.

Forget about that you said you have one Piggy. He's not alone is he?

@@ScottysAnimals I started out with six, but have lost three so far over the years. Have three now, but they don't get along. But they are all next to each other with cloroplast houses. I use fleece with Carefresh kitchens.

I'd really wanted to see how you filled the snack shack. I have our first one coming from Amazon (thank you for the link off scottysanimals.com) & was wondering how much hay to put in/if you might leave some room for it to be used as a tunnel. Thank you for the visual. 🙂
