They could probably fix the cursor really easily by giving the white ring a black outline. Then you'd only see the colour ring that contrasts with the background, but not have to change anything dynamically.
Been saying this for years. Ghost orbs used to be really hard to see back in the day and I made the same recommendation. Good call.
Im saying this Direct to the developers in the discord channel but I dont have the expected attention so IDK what to do more.
or let the player pick the color of the cursor
Just make it opaque and let you choose the colour, a colour like purple will never blend in to the things ur looking at
Big brain idea
its crazy to me how game devs never think about how bad the default settings are. most players dont know anything about pc settings and wont ever touch them, so when game devs do this, it pains me
edit: best example is tf2 imo
maybe that's the point? Every player has different settings that suit them, so if they make the default settings so bad then more playeres will find their favorite configuration (this is how I cope)
Cities Skylines 2. They tell you to turn off a bunch of crap instead of just changing the default
Wdym most people don't know settings 😭 pls tell me that's not true
@@deliriouscheeto it is true!
@@Bayyyro every pc player ive ever known, knows to tune their settings. im not sure ive ever met anyone who wasnt aware of this.
Figured i'd write a list of the things that were covered in the video if anyone needs to refer back to this.
Video Settings:
Brightness: 1.8
Fullscreen Mode: Fullscreen (Personal Choice)
VSync: Off
Anti-Aliasing: MSAA
MSAA Quality: 8x
Fidelity FX Super Resolution: Off
Texture Resolution: Full
Sky Light: On
Fog Quality: High
Shadows: Soft
Anisotropic: On
Ambient Occlusion: On
Bloom: Off
Film Grain: Off
Chromatic Aberration: Off
Game Settings:
FOV: 90
Cursor Brightness: 500%
Keybinds:
Journal: Tab
Local PTT: Mouse Button (If possible)
Global PTT: Space
Special / Flashlight: R
Anything left out is either unchanged or personal preference. Hope this is useful
I'd like if some of the video settings could become sliders instead of toggles in the future. Things like Bloom and Chromatic Aberration can look good, but they're applied pretty heavily and look kind of ugly (especially the chromatic abberation). If we could manually make the effects more subtle it could help the game look a lot better.
YES. And Film Grain, too! I like this sort of effects when judiciously applied, but right now Bloom is a choice between hurting your eyes and losing a lot of lighting realism, while Chromatic Aberration makes me feel a bit like I'm on acid. 😂
Thank you for showing us this amazing video and I just got phasmophobia. This is gonna help slot thank you very much Insym.
5:50 text "voice" recognition is very usefull, because you can spam it and get response much faster than would with regular voice commands. Sadly, it's bugged as hell, so opening it once can lock your screen with those texts, unable to rid out of it, which is specially funny, when Ouija board breaks and you're stuck with questions, unable to even move your camera, only run in frozen position.
you can't spam it, there's a cooldown
I have been getting frame rates of like 4711 lately lol.
I will def try your tips!
Update: my game looks WAAAAY better now! Thanks man! It's like a whole new game!
You fixed my microphone issue! Had to reformat a few months ago and started playing Forewarned and Phasmo again. I couldn't get my mic to pick up in game, even though it was working in Discord. Windows defaulted to an old microphone input. It was starting to drive me crazy. Thank you! Cheers!
Even though I know my stuff fairly well, I'm so glad I watched this! Film Grain doesn't even show for me, so it's off now. Next, I turned on Soft Shadows and HQ Fog because I thought the Medium I used on my old PC in the States as "good enough." It's truly not, what a dramatic difference! After playing around with the settings some more, I think TAA is the best anti-aliasing quality for my setup (although it does get a bit weird from some angles), but I wouldn't have even thought to try it if you hadn't posted this. I also use R for Run/Sprint in most games because it strains my small hands to pinky-hold Shift all the time, so changing from J to Tab made an INCREDIBLE difference. Thanks!
Thank you, nice video, i loved your explanations, and now my game looks sooooo better
Thank you for the tips. Can't wait to try it on the console update
At default 1.0 mouse sensitivity, Dots Per 360° is exactly 3600 for Steam Flick Stick and Gyro to Mouse.
If you touch that slider at all, it will never be exactly 1.0 again. (the number displayed is rounded)
congratilations ! 800K INSYM!!!!
thanks, and congrats on 800K!
I personally like lower FOV such as 65-75 because it just feels way more immersive in my opinion and it's easier on my eyes. Having it set to 80-90 FOV actually gives me motion sickness and feels harsh on my eyes. But hey, to each their own, the game has settings for a reason
I also like a lower FOV in general in Phasmo, but on the other hand I enjoy playing on max FOV with an ultrawide game window to just be able to see all my surroundings, makes the game easier to play
I was going to comment this, yeah. I put my FoV a little higher, but when it comes to "tunnel vision", having the FoV at such a high range makes what's in front of you so far away and has this wall-eye effect when you turn (it zooms closer at the sides).
I think it's just what people have become used to, and how desperate they might be to get that slight more side angle of vision (seeing what's next to you, or above/below).
FoV 70 tends to be like "looking through a window into the game" for a 1080p resolution, so it makes sense that it would be the default. I don't understand devs that don't add a FoV (or especially a AAA company), because field of vision is the one thing that can make it so people physically are unable to play the game. A very critical setting.. I wouldn't even release in Early Access or demo without a FoV unless you don't care about pushing players away with a bad first impression.
Yeah, I think I play on FOV 65 or so 😅
I'd really like it if the FOV slider would just do that - widen the field of view - without distorting everything, in my opinion everything looks so ugly on high FOV. That's why I keep it low in every game.
I really don't care if I have disadvantages, if the alternative means to make the game less immersive.
for me low fov makes me nauseous and feels me sick
It gives me motion sickness to have it lower than 90
Giving an option to change your crosshair color will solve the issue of the white ring being visible only on a black background. Or change it to green, it's the most viewable color against all colors (plus you don't see much green in the game itself).
1.27 look at the screen in the background IT PERFECTLY HIT THE CORNER RIGHT AT THE 800K CONGRATS MAN!!!!
Haha OP gamer! I love the sarcasm! I can't wait for Insym to review the new lighting settings!
Congratz on 800k
I'm soo happy about your keybind rant! Cause I've been complaining about the default keybinds ever since I started playing.
The only difference in my keybinds is, I use "Q" to drop items, cause that's what I'm used to from Minecraft, lol
I changed it on my mouse wheel, so much easier.
Congrats on 800k insym!
Because my thumb likes resting on the Space Bar, that's the key I use for sprinting. My favorite Sesame Street button is G for Global Push to Talk. It's a bit of a distance, but I rarely run into a situation where I find something I need the team to know about when they aren't in regular Push to Talk distance, so it's easy for me to stretch my finger to G when I just want to tell them that one quick thing.
The default keybinds are definitely weird. I rebound a few of them, but didn't think of remapping the journal key. Thanks for your keybinds!
Man I've watched your videos for so long and haven't subscribed for some reason, but the Sesame Street "J is for Journal" bit got me going lmao
Congratulations for 800k 🎉
congrats on 800k insym!
Congratz on 800k subs!
I use my back key on my mouse for flashlight and forward for radio. It makes it SO much easier to chat with friends while running around, and you can quickly shut off flashlight when it's hunting =)
Well done on 800k!!!
Sum of this helped ❤ thanks V-Sync locks my game to 30fps for sum reason so that stays of for me lol the brightness was the most helpful part lol ❤
Congrats on 800k!
happy 800k subs insym
Congrats on 800k subs insym
Shadow resolution is very important ! You need to have it at least high otherwise you will have lights from downstairs coming upstairs through the floor(corners) you might see some with high so if you can turn it to very high but at least high
congrats on 800k insym
Congrats on 800k subs🎉🎉🎉
Thank you very helpful!
I'm pretty sure for 'dynamic color changes' to the cursor just requires them to change the hue filter of the cursor to a negative color.
Insym is such a meal time youtuber, if im eating, im watching him
Same. My lunchbreak is always when he uploads a new video. Its always so nice to watch his videos while i eat
Same! 😂
Thank you, I changed it and wow, what a difference.
I'm so used to dbd that i changed my crouch button to ctrl lmao.
Thank you for the help btw its so much better
I can see the advantage of seeing more with 90 FOV, but at the same time, the view gets warped and stuff moves across the screen faster and that's what makes me motion sick. I can still watch videos with 90 FOV, but mostly because i don't need to look at it for 2 hours straight^^
As for the radio buttons, i put them on my mouse (button 4 and 5), which feels quite natural to me by now^^ On top of that, i've also set the journal to mouse 3
I dont mind voice activation, lets me hear people scream when they get scared, very funny
it gets annoying tho. I don't mind hearing people scream when they're scared, but constantly hearing the TV in the background or someone talking is just ugh.
Love that Fahrenheit roast lol
One additional change Insym didn't mention was to change inventory swap to the second side mouse button (there's two, at least on my mouse, one for inventory swap, one for local push to talk).
I have my second mouse button set for secondary use personally, useful for placing things down, especially music box, i never really need to cycle through my things desperately during a hunt, just turn flashlight off and book it
@@SoraKaito22 true, was thinking more cycling quickly to camera for a photo. Also realized there’s two buttons behind my scroller so gonna rethink my mapping anyway
I use my mouse buttons as local PTT and "special", namely because I tended to fat-finger the T key when reaching for F, especially with the changes to tier 2 and 3 headgear. If you have the extra buttons for it, I definitely recommend giving it a try, it was game-changing 😊
Ragesym talking about TAB for the journal was hilarious
I love that Insym had to set up Phasmo on another PC and thought “hmm I should make a YT video of this” so smart and helpful
I use text input simply so my neighbors aren't hearing me say "Where are you? How old are you? Are you friendly? How old are you?" all the time...
I put my flashlight toggle on an easy to hit button on my mouse. It’s saved me so many times being able to toggle flashlight quickly.
Ty for the video and the Q item swap advice, actually i didnt know that existe and my mouse scroll a little shitty and i always suffer for that
The rant about J being for Journal because f*cking Sesame Street logic had me sitting here clapping 😄👏💯
Ctrl is crouch, Shift is sprint, and Tab is inventory/journal. PC gaming standards to live by.
Omg. I tried these keybinds. Absolutely gamechanging. Now test it for CS and all my other games lmao
As a leftie, J for journal works just fine for me since that's the half of the keyboard I actually use. Literally the only keybind I DIDN'T change.
Ty insym with these settings i can play sunny meadows... before my game just crashed
congrats with 800k
Gish i will do this right now. I always was confused about the huge difference
Every new PHasmo player needs this info
I don't recommend V-Sync because if a monitor and a game are having trouble syncing up, then V-Sync can lower your frame rate significantly to try to find a point where they can.
V-Sync is usually recommended to not be on if you don’t need it. Instances where you might need it is with larger resolutions where it can cause screen tearing, for example.
For some ppl tho, eliminating screen tearing can be worth a lower framerate. I'd say it's a case-by-case basis on whether or not Vsync is worth using.
It lowers the framerate to ur monitor refresh rate, u won't actually notice it. If anything it will feel smoother as it helps keep a stable frametime. Adds input lag aswell.
@@Sligili not really. It prevents the monitor from grabbing buffered data while the buffer is still being written to. This is where screen tearing comes from; the monitor is grabbing a mix of old and new data
If you have a good PC that's able to get more frames than your monitor's refresh rate = you can turn VSYNC ON to prevent tearing or GPU getting loud
bad PC with low framerate under 60 = always OFF
Full fleshed out raytracing would look so good in this game I can tell. Lighting and darkness are such a big part of this game afterall. And even maps aren't that big so it wouldn't cause that big of a performance drop
You forget to mention one advantage of turning off the Skybox setting, which is that it makes the dirt in the Asylum staircase disappear xD
teachersym is back
just curious: do you ever play on controller? the cursor sensitivity for menus REALLY sucks and some of the keybinds are a a little weird, i’d love to hear your thoughts!
Congratulations on 800k! Been here for years through many trials and tribulations, and I’m prepared to stick with this channel through millions more. Huge respect and very deserved milestone.
Lol if you're using Linux the sound settings should be set to pulse audio and make sure the one you're using is set to the default.
Tiny Hands Insym, I just press J with my left index finger without even thinking about it.
ngl I feel called out for using the sesame street method to remember the controls, I don't play many keyboard games so I'm not used to where buttons are and that's the only way I remember 😁
Insym, my settings were exactly like yours, I'm the kind of gamer who first and foremost tampers with all the settings to optimize the experience. Just a caveat - my brightness was at 2.5. I also HATE bloom, grain and chromatic aberration.
it looks better already! Wow thanks
bruh you commented 1 minute after the video dropped and already set it up and tried it and commented
@@zmajsmp8580He's speed
A lot of the times when devs make the default settings for games it's designed for a specific artistic vision. For example the fov default making the hand look more normal than on higher ones. It's not always bad but a lot of the times it isn't practical for actually playing
personally i had J for like a year and never felt odd about it
but tab is still better lol
when I started playing I also changed my inventory swap to R and put drop item on Q because ???
and I also changed secondary use from F to a mouse button because that just feels better
I agree on the AA setting, I despise TAA in any game, I just don’t like the way that it blurs the scene when moving/looking around; it may be less jagged and sharp along the edges of objects but it reduces the image quality while moving
thanks for this, but can you also make this guide for VR?
Q for drop is goated, iykyk
Idk how hard it is to do, but they could just put the crosshairs (mouse cursor) set to negative. so it will always be visible no matter what. No need to code any color changes depending on background, just make it show the negative of what's on screen
wrong, every pixel of the cursor would have to ask the underlying pixel what colour it is and then change its own.
i like how he gets progressively more and more annoyed as the video goes on, watch the start of the video and just skip to controls. the mood difference is funny
Congrats on 800lk :D
Geeze Insym. LMFAO Take a chill pill for that journal keybind. Anyway we cant used WASD while ready journal, so it's okay to remove left hand from those keys to press J. don't need to overreach with your thumb.
Wish you'd crank the brightness even more for broadcast. Thanks for the tips, though!
The keybindings aren't sesame street logic (minus the Journal) most of the other keybindings are what they are so that they're as similar to other games as possible. For example, the interact button is almost always E or F in games. It's be sesame street logic to make it I but they don't. For most games (with a flashlight) the F or T key is for the flashlight, so they followed suit, but since they're F is taken it's T.
Tab is my Push to talk key for everything, so i use a mouse button for the journel
CJ in tears after watching this
If you don't have a crap microphone you can absolutely use voice activation rather than push to talk. Push to talk is awkward and boring because when it's enabled people just don't talk. I like to actually hear my friends laugh, shout, or scream. Voice activation captures genuine reactions. However if you have a crap mic then absolutely use push to talk or else you're just gonna get yourself or other players killed.
Well yeah, if you're with friends use it all you want. But randoms shouldnt
I dont know why but turning off bloom just now after watching this video is the best thing I did.. SO MUCH BETTER!
I use spacebar for my flashflight, but most of these settings I agree with
Insym was so mad about J being the Journal keybind that I got actually scared
i set global PTT to one of my mouse buttons and sprint is my other mouse button. space bar for me is local PTT.
I only play casually with my friends, so I actually prefer open mic because it's more immersive and sometimes funny to hear people scream.
Insym probably spends more time in settings than I do in the character creation.😂
"First thing you sould try, after installing, it's changing everything" xD
Insym: goes off the rails about people using J for journal and T for special.
Me: "I feel personally attacked."
Thank you so much for pointing out the chromatic aberration though. I was wondering why I was always seeing double in the corners of the screen at all times.
Also, about MXAA antialiasing, in short, it's an equivalent of supersampling, so by changing this to x4 with 1080p resolution, you basically playing game in 4K. This is VERY heavy for PC, and that's why usually game rendering systems can't even use MXAA anymore.
Chromatic aberration was the first thing I noticed when I ran the game for the first time, and I couldn't pay attention to anything else.
I would just recommend someone finding what key binds work comfortably for them. Also, pretty standard to get a mouse with multiple buttons which is very useful for games like this.
I think everyone should get mice with 2 extra buttons on the side, it literally makes your life easier by a mile. Not only in games.
Wanna go back to the page you came from? Click on a mouse key without moving your hand\mouse to the other part of the screen.
If you put V-sync off make sure that you limit the framerate on a driver level. I.e NVIDIA settings max framerate to the highest what your display is capable of.
This will make sure that games such as New World won't destroy your PC. Even if you do use V-sync setting the max framerate on a driver level is still a good thing to do. Sadly this is not a default by NVIDIA or AMD (not sure by intel, I don't own one).
Personally I like to keep my FoV at 70 ~ 80. FoV at 90 gives a fisheye lens effect.
Brightness 0.1 default seems like a bug? Wasn't it 1.0 by default?
Never use Fidelity FX / DLSS unless you absolutely have to or want to squeeze out some extra frames with the possibility of graphical artifacts.
It may also cause the render resolution to be lower and then upscaled. Depending on the settings.
If dynamic resolution were to be an option never turn that on either. It will cause the rendered resolution to be much lower whenever there is not enough processing power from the GPU to render the frame requested. Which will cause blurry frames because of the lower render resolution. you'll reach your FPS target easier but only because of the lower render resolution.
Dynamic resolution is not the same as AI rendered frames by FidelityFX / DLSS.
It is often confused and not explained.
I've never encountered a reason to cap my fps, in edge cases yeah you can use driver gpu settings but it's definitely not a global thing you need to be worried about with every game. Idk how anyone uses VSync, it causes a lot of input delay.
@@jehree9850 If you don't cap the FPS with V-Sync off it will push as many frames as possible. Which means that you're just wasting power and stressing the CPU more than needed. Especially when the refresh rate of the monitor is lower than the fps output.
Also some ppl had issues when New World didn't cap their frames.
Either the developer restricts from outputting more frames than the refresh rate of the monitor. Or you do.
It isn't weird to have a cap for this on the driver level. That way you're just protected against super high frame rates that just waste power and heat up the card and CPU for nothing.
Every frame you're pushing beyond the refresh rate of the monitor is a waste of power.
I've played with V-Sync on but never noticed any input delays. But then again I'm not a pro-level player. But it is better than having the constant screen tearing.
But that's where G-sync / FreeSync comes in.
@@Maskedmous Again, there are edge cases like New World, my point was just that you don't need to be globally worried about it in most games.
I don't think going a few fps over your refresh rate is gonna cause any significant increase in power draw or stress unless your pc has a poor cooling system or something. In some games like Rocket League it even is beneficial, since higher fps tends to lead to better responsiveness even if it's above your refresh rate.
And vsync causes noticeable input delay, that is a widely talked about subject. You just shouldn't ever use it, if you absolutely need to cap your frames you should do it another way like you said through your driver settings or similar.
I really appreciate when people that are big proponents of a game really rip into bad game dev decisions instead of just blind dev worship.
Since they removed Volumetric Lighting, the game experience dropped a huge for me. And they said it was dou to being unstable option.. i had no proplem with that, and loved to play like that.
They promised to bring it back, but....
So, the thing about the field of view. Given the range it has and how it looks, I'm like 75-85% sure it's the vertical field of view, which means the width of it scales with your monitor width. 70-80 is actually the "correct" setting most people should have, with 90 being, effectively, a fish-eye lens. Kinda like setting minecraft to "quake pro" which for ME at least, is not that playable.
Can you show us all the game intended hiding spots and all the other secret hiding spots?
And how hiding spots work, show your typical go to spots
"One of the first things you should do when you download this game is change EVERYTHING" -insym 2023
Hey In the Audio settings should It stay stereo or surround?
FoV is purely personal preference tho, Personally playing with anything above 80 in most games usually makes me unable to play them as I get motion sick within a few minutes
Everything else I totally agree with
