I've been waiting 4 years for my custom SL 2...I got the email yesterday it's finally available...I orderd it today. Sheath turned out phenomenal, thanks for the inspiration, I'll probably do the same.
My Squad Leader 2 in antique linen micarta is on its way to me. I’m curious about wet forming. This will be my 3rd Bark River. I have a Kitsune as my edc now which replaced a Bravo EDC. I never wet formed those sheaths. Is there a specific process you can recommend?
@@LanningKann ,… I coat the knife and handle in Vaseline,… I hold the sheath under hot tap water for about 30 seconds. I get the leather pretty warm and soaked inside & out. I put the Vaseline coated knife inside the sheath and start pinching the leather around the blade and handle of the knife. Shaping it to the knife. When I’m happy with the look and hold of the leather I lay the sheath with the knife still in it on top of a cardboard bow with a fan blowing in it. High speed. Lots of airflow. After about 2 hours I flip it over and let it keep drying in front of the fan. For about another 2-3 hours. Then I remove the knife & wipe off the excess Vaseline. I lightly pinch the leather sheath just to make sure it’s still holding the new shape nice & tight. I usually let it air dry empty for a day or two. Then I lightly Vaseline the leather and put the knife inside the sheath and remove it again several times and that’s about it. Very simple. Just don’t store your carbon steel knife long term inside the sheath. “It can Rust”
@@stonefox9124 ,… I can understand that,… I heard the Tope Recon is coming again soon & so is the Survivor Bowie. I have a Tope recon and I love it I wouldn’t mind getting another one, I don’t have a “Survivor” yet,… definitely a must have.
@@kelvinwilliams6999 ,… I lightly rubbed it down with a cotton ball with just a touch of 91% alcohol let it dry for like 10 minutes then applied Fiebing’s, Pro Dye black,… dye it in a big piece of cardboard and wear rubber gloves. Let it dry for 24-48 hours in front of a fan. I wet form the sheath about 24 hours before I dye it. After the dying process is complete and it has dried completely,… I oil the sheath
@@JohnLemon-xq4pd ,… I will try to do an update video of it, sometime this week. It’s a great knife. Just keep it clean and oiled. - I store it outside of the sheath & oiled up, when I’m not using it. - It’s a workhorse, BEAST! 👍🏻🔪

@@TheGunsNBlades Thanx! I heard the Tope Recon is coming back soon and also the Survivor! (As of yet, I haven’t heard anything on the Crusader).
I wish they’d make the first edition again. The shorter version.
Thanks for sharing!!
Amazing knife man! Thinking about getting this one or wait for the tope recon... can't decide between them
@@RonBilevich , I have both of them. It’s a tough call. I’d probably get the Tope Recon.

I was gonna get one but i have a Cub and they're so alike in size and shape so didn't seem worth having both.

What steps did you use to dye it black? Thanks.

@@JoeDoomsday will I have to keep it oiled if I don't use it?
@@JohnLemon-xq4pd you should keep a thin coat of Vaseline on it
@@JoeDoomsday 👍
@JoeDoomsday apparently vaseline rots leather so works mineral oil work
