To me this knife is for the guy or gal who wants a bomb proof sort of hybrid combat/survival knife....it is a better steel than the ESSE-5 , so maybe it is for the person who wants that much higher quality hybrid survival/secondary weapon type of tool.In my humble opinion there is room for the industry to grow in that category....I love that type of knife myself--I live in Kentucky in a woodland area and on the days when I pack light, this could replace my carving knife and tomahawk combo....that bad boy and smallish folding saw and I am set for a trip down the Cumberland.I carry a Bravo 1.5 in A-2 steel most of the time now,but I think the bark river withdraws are coming on again.....my hands are shaking and I'm reaching for my wallet----Yes....Yes....I simply MUST have one..... : ) Thank's for the review Chris.
Wow Chris, Squad Leader 2 is a real eye catcher! Unfortunately, I can't find one anywhere! I hope that they restock these soon!
A big knife! All right. Love the big knives. What a beautiful piece of craftmanship.
Reminds me of the old Buck 124 Frontiersman, one of my favorites.
Going to have to get one of these.
Pretty knife. For sure. That fits perfectly in the “survival” category, but I’d struggle to justify the difference in cost from a Cold Steel Recon Scout. Yes, the steel is better, yes the handle is better. If I were in an elite military group that had a high probability of being stranded in the bush for days or a week at a time, yes. For a bug out kit? Or the SHTF scenario? No. Great gift for your green beret or seal team son, nephew, grandson. Sick knife, no doubt.
Tactical to the MAX! Love this survival knife. If I could afford it, I would buy it, no question.
3 years later, I'm sold! I love that bastard!!! Thanks Chris
That intro was hard to watch.....I love your intro and generally hum along with it... started to do that but was denied😂🤣😂
Love all your videos, I can't afford all those beautiful knives, but enjoy watching👍
Gotta say,Chris always answers the questions we want to ask, great review as usual!
Thanks, for an awesome review. I’ve been looking at some of your older reviews. Curious have you ever reviewed the Bark River Kalahari bushman 2 ? I would love to get your opinion of it. It’s the one I’m looking at.
I tell you I love big knives. But in the end I never use them. I live in Arizona where a 4" knife does the job perfect. I love my Bravo 1 3V and yes a ceramic rod and strop work perfect.
All this Batoning and feather sticking makes me chuckle. There is so much tinder in the woods I frequent that those activities would be a massive waste of time.
What’s the best way to sharpen spine if you don’t have the Ken work sharp . Knife is bravo 1 3V. Don’t what to screw up.
Dammit Chris, only because of you and my now great knowledge of knives I can see $262 and go, hm you know that's not too bad 😂👌🏻
Ask me a couple weeks ago if I'd drop more than 100 on a knife and I'd say hell no without even thinking about it... Ask me now? Well I may have just dropped 300 on one of these and put a TRC apocalypse on layaway. #facepalm.
Bro why does it almost the impossible to get that knife? I I put a down payment for that knife from bark river, 2years ago and still I haven’t received it! Let me know if you have any pull. Thanks Chris.
love this knife. if you were ever looking for a high quality full tang borderline overbuilt kabar styled knife this is it.
Chris. I love my Barkys but that one is too big for me. But I can still see the craftsmanship in it.
I am thinking it would accel as a Combat/Survival knife. Also, it could seriously be a contender for the mythical "One Tool Option" title.
I got one on order with the desert ironwood handle.
A rare example of a fuller being essential - although a bit gratuitous looking, it must have surely scooped out a few ounces on each side, balance wise. Hows that extra little lanyard thing on your palm? Does it jab in at all?
Judge Dredd's back up blade "I am da LAW !!!!!"
I like this knife. Maybe I can convince my wife I need it. Medium, tank like survival/combat knife! Forget those big chopping knives! Pair this with a Estwing campers axe and a small neck knife like my Esee Izulu.
Whaow! A real bear skull crusher!!! Well, in fact a pure beauty.....
You pulled out the squad leader and I liked the profile. Then you turned it so I saw the blade stock. Literally laughed so hard I fell over😂. I’d say it was a sharpened crowbar but it might be a little too thick for that even lol. Still, the badass factor of that much sharpened 3V is off the charts!
Just bought one. Bad ass. Knife. Thx for the great review.
That’s a combat knife, but it can be used for everything else 🤷🏻♂️💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
i really like the look of that knife i like what you did with the sheath looks good also
The Squad Leader has an obviously steeper grind than the Fobos Legion. So that's probably why there's a difference in the chopping ability.
Thanks for the video!
Don't get the Loraxes spun up...classic
Question, would the Squad leader 2 and the Bravo 2 fit the same purpose? Is there any pros or cons of one vs the other?
Who would you say makes the best custom kydex sheath, right now I’m liking the looks of Grizzly Outdoors extreme line of sheaths currently?
My favorite knive wonderfull, beautifull definitive knife...
How does it compare to marauder and crusader. So many choices. Lol
Love that knife. Beastly!
Have you heard of that 100 year Hoodie? Made of Kevlar like fibers and it's supposedly super comfortable. Thought it might be something your interested in checking out.
Awesome knife!
Isn't it time for a new "Big Bag O Blades"?
Craig Walker I completely agree. I also want him to do a new Jessica the bk7 review/revolution
Beautiful. I'd give a toe off my right foot for that knife.. Thanks Chris..
Looks like a good field knife. A sak farmer and that thing would be excellent imo.
Thanks for the speedy intro 😂
Ya when i saw the spine when you started the vid. I was thinking it looked different. That blade at 8" with a little thinner than 3/16" thick..would be awesome. 3v or cruwear.Chris you asked for budget review ideas. The ontario sp5 is 40-50$ and 1095. The sp8 is 40$ 1095. Sp53 ,sp1.
Sick blade. Gonna get one!
What’s the purpose of the sharpening choil being aft of the plunge line?
Is it just me or does the squad leader2 look like a much bigger version of the springbok?
The original Squad leader in 3v which is smaller than this knife is excellent
Would like to see you test a benchmade bushcrafter 162. Looks lile a solid knife
Larry Lightle bushcrafter is an abomination, s30v steel, ridiculous handle shape and even more ridiculous sheath for 200 bones. Benchmade should be ashamed of themselves for even producing that knife. There is a good reason that knife is a failure.
Larry Lightle The 162 is a solid knife. I own one and like it, but,to be honest, I reach for my Battle Horse Bushcrafter much more often. The Saber grind on the 162 just doesn't perform nearly as well on wood. For an all around knife the 162 does just fine, but there are probably (in my opinion) better knives for the money.
3:04 hilarious.
Just placed an order for one green canvas micarta
Great video 👍 !!!
i just discovered the brave stikeforce 2, its slightly shorter than the bravo 2 (6.9" opposed yo 7") but considerably thinner @ 0.191" opposed to 0.235", even thinner than the bravo 1.5's 0.217" , a slight recurve, and did i mention its 3v ? ;)
I missed out on that last run. They went fast. By the time I saw it they were almost gone. That's why I pester Mike more often now about what's coming out. Strikeforce 2 is sick!
by the way i pre ordered the jx-6 cpm 154 on DLt and LT is building me a jx-3 right now :D
EVO604 how would you sharpen a recurve convex if you didnt have ceramic rods. I have never had one
HRC 50-53 on the Humdinger. How often are you going to have to resharpen that?
I myself would not buy a bark river. If someone gave me one I would take it. But buy, no. Lots knives out there ,that do the same thing for less money.
"They Cut", right? There's a bit more to it than that, but yes...Mora's cut too.
Most people can't buy a bark river knife, there high so are LTW knives. If you have the money and want it, well buy it. They are good knives. Back in the 60's, we use what we could get our hands on hiking, camping and hunting. When I went to Fort Bragg, I learn to do more with just what you had. I myself carried the same knife from 1965 to 1980 then, I finally changed it out. Chris does a great job here, its to bad Schrade didn't pay him for all those video he made. God knows he made them alot money. Love see the CRKT Knife.
convex. Glad you like it. Have a Blackjack its convex, works great 100.00 dollars.
Can you please do another BK7 video. You haven’t done one on Jessica in years and she was your baby. I have one and I want people to know how awesome it is. You mentioned Jessica list in this video and people might not know where that comes from. If your worried about views on that video then don’t be because everybody will love it.
Try the Fallkniven s1 pro or just the regular...
Love your vids, but seriously. Who buys a knife like that. A mora and a good hatchet for a fraction of the price... Love my ESEE's though
'Woods' handle - combat type blade. Nice!
Badass sharpen super steel pry bar
That thing seems ridiculous. The Fuller is enormous. Good review though!
Damn that's a nice knife.
The giant fuller makes it not for me instantly
M Nohcho idk I just don’t like the way it looks a smaller fuller is ok to me like tho one on the jx5 but that one is way to huge
Same for me. I understand why they do it, but I just don't care for the look.
TheTruthQuest123 except choils have a purpose a fuller is mostly athstetic but it does reduce weight a little bit
TheTruthQuest123 no crap there not entirely for aesthetics I said they do reduce weight but choils are far more useful if there done right
looks like the ruger muzzle break
Now I must own this too... my wife hates you 😁
Why do all the bark river knives he reviews look like psycho kitchen utensils...?
It's the handle scales...that smooth shiny black and those flat polished metal pins...it makes em look like they belong on a counter top not in the woods or outdoors...No doubt a great knife but why would you ever put those handle scales on those blades.
Did u see the steel will roamer that’s a nice fixed blade for 50 dollars same with the folders
I was supposed to get one to review but never did. I should follow up on that. That was the only one they make that I liked
BadASS blade design look! :D
Great review !
Beautiful knife
That’s alone knife zombie knife one tool option .
SHTF kind of knife?!
Tee hee... you said “girth”... all kidding aside, I really like that knife, been rocking my Knives of Alaska Bushcamp in D2 for a while, but have been wanting to treat myself to something really special in a super steel, this just may be the one. Thanks
Instead of the military using the outdated kabar knife why don't they use this one. Obviously with an affordable steel. They will just have an improved knife with the classic style that every knife guy likes
I heard you sell lighters. This true?
That’s a good looking knife. I like the design.
Great video and review. PM101 fan for life! Have you seen the new TOPS "mini" SXB for 2019. That thing gave me a raging youknowwhat
PREPAREDMIND101 let us know if you here somthing about the production model. The prototype looks great
I need that lolb
That Humdinger looks kind of Mora-ish.🤔
sweet
Thanks for the review Chris, awesome looking knife, I am a Bowie type of guy too.
Speaking of LT Wright have you and or Will checked out or tried the Gen 3? I recently reviewed it and been using it awhile and really like it, feels much different than the typical LT.
m.ua-cam.com/video/s40L_ycUH5U/v-deo.html
Too short to chop well, too thick to cut well.
A little late getting in today😉
So funny.
I took a look at the knife when you said to, and my eyes raised up at the same time yours did.
"Dont want to get the Lorax's spun up"
Dead. LOL
Of course, Bark River will be glad to take off that extended pommel for anyone that would prefer it not be there. Chris, I sure would like to see a direct comparison by you of the Fox River LT versus the equivalent Gunny. I bet a lot of others would, too. Thanks for another well done, factual review.
Hahaha batony chop chop
Baton God
Damn it you just cost me 300 bones man
I just won this as a free giveaway, right?
$270 knife out of my budget
Car knife
Anyone that owns bark rivers or LT knives and wants to trade. for a 3v bravo 1 with kydex sheath and leather with box. Let me know
A nice looking blade and I'm sure it has structural integrity and all the other significant characteristics of a functioning blade ..... BUT
Fuller - AKA "blood groove" is a waste of time in manufacturing and does nothing for the functionality of a knife . Most people have ZERO idea where the mythology of the blood groove originates . Good and fair review & a thumbs up from a hyper opinionated old guy knife maker .
"Nothing for the functionality"? How about weight management/balance? That's it's purpose.
Now that's a dandy would like to have that and a bravo 1 maybe someday if I win the lottery
Dwayne Wallace i have a bravo one 3v and kydex and leather. Do you have a reate valhalla or any 200$ + knives
convex I wish I had a fair trade but being on disability doesn't allow me to afford high end knives it's just not in the budget but thanx for trying to work out a trade
👍🏾👍🏾
Holy chunk of expensive steel.
Look at the bright side... You can baton a small sedan with it and it won't break.
A waste of 3v. Ground like an axe but can't chop. Looks like a knife but doesn't cut like one. Splits like a froe but can span only like 4 inches of wood. Thanks, Ill just carry a brick if I need something to weigh me down.
Gustav Janson that edge wasnt to thick at all, seeing its spine. To get that fine of feathers...it aint no bk2
The spine thickness is 6,75 mm. It would be nice to know at what height the grind reaches full thickness, but as a comparison, my 24 inch handled axe reaches this thickness at 4 cm. I can tell that the grind height on this knife is MUCH lower than on my medium sized axe (I won't even bother measuring it on my smaller, finer hatchets). There you go, they put the grind on a 6'' 3v knife that you would maybe find on a full sized axe.
Gustav Janson that grind is tginner than an axe. Ya a GB is thin. But it constantly sticks im wood being that thin. Europes trees are different than american hardwoods
ん
It looks like a nice knife. It fits into the category of a Survival type knife that will still do Bushcraft chores as well as dress game and still remain tactical. The thing about knives like this one is that the skill set and capabilities or the person using it will determine how well the knife performs at a given task. As far as it's chopping abilities. ......it wasn't made to do what a machete does. I very much like the beefy spine and how it continues into the point giving it a good landing for the baton and strengthening the tip. And the width and length of the Fuller is also nicely designed. I've been looking at this knife and considering it....you may have just sold me on it.Thanks for another great video Chris.
