We Linux users choose when to do so (and all that rebooting does is apply any kernel-level changes) by simply typing “sudo apt update” then “sudo apt upgrade -y” and it only takes seconds and will be offered for the entire lifetime of your PC, with some 2011 ThinkPad users with Ubuntu still enjoying support thanks to the fact that they can run version 24.04. Whereas Windows updates are entirely tied to rebooting (or the inevitable crash) and can take several minutes, and Mac updates stop coming when your laptop is like 2 years old.

I choose Windows 11 over MacOS any day of the week. GNU/Linux is obviously preferable, but given a choice between Apple and Microsoft, Microsoft is the clear winner. Why? Three reasons come to mind: 1) Window management is atrocious on MacOS. 2) My Apple work computer doesn't have any USB ports (need a dongle). 3) Apple hardware is subpar for its price range. Intel CPU + NVIDIA GPU is a much better combination for pretty much all use cases. Battery life is great on MacOS, though, so I guess there's that...
@@guanxinated My Mac M2 Mini Pro outperforms any Windows machine I’ve ever owned (and my first was an IBM 286 running pre-Windows 3.0 and my last was a pricey Dell Studio) at a price comparable to any decent Windows desktop. It has 4 Thunderbolt ports, 2 USB ports, HDMI, Gigabit Ethernet, headphone jack, ARM not Intel, with a NPU. Graphics performance beats NVIDEA. @@polishtheday Really? Could be that we have different use cases, but I dunno. The most intensive computing I ever do on a regular basis is protein folding and Apple hardware is pretty mid, I'd say. I mean, don't get me wrong, the M2 has good performance w/ low power draw and some simulations need to use CPU, so it's useful work, but generally speaking, I can get the same performance with a GTX 1650 that costs like $150. I just looked on Amazon and they're selling an MacBook Pro with an M2 processor and 8GB of RAM for $1,500. I'd rather pay a little bit more and get an RTX 4070 laptop. That's 10x performance! Most people that use a MacBook Air (myself included; for games I use my windows laptop) don’t need the fan. It’s actually crazy efficient and never gets hot. The m1 is too good that people won’t need to update for the coming years. The ram is a giant scam of course. Even android tablets that cost 400 bucks have more ram lol
Apple did offer the 13" MBP which was essentially a MBA with a fan that did offer about 10% performance benefits under extensive heavy load. It was one of the most useless products...
Right on. I agree. I switched to totally Apple a few years ago and I’m happy. After almost 20 years of pc. I just got tired of doing virus scans every day and updating all the time. And now my laptop and phone and iPad all sync together automatically. It’s a beautiful thing
Virus scans are long gone since Windows XP days. I used to run Mac (mini) and Windows side by side for some time. I have witnessed quite a few crashes on a Mac - it would crash every few weeks or so. Meanwhile Windows never crashed. Since then I progressed and even built my own PC which was fun. If I could complain about something, I would say that Microsoft is getting annoying with ads of their online services, like Office 365 and One Drive. This is the only complaint I have.
The adds and preinstalled apps drove me nuts and all the background processes actually significantly slowed down my laptop. So i used special tools to clean all that dirt up. Believe me or not but the ram usage went down by 50% and the background processes count went down by around a 100. After doing that I had absolutely 0 issues with windows. Actually my PC never blue-screened. And about the anoying updates. Yeah I dont find them anoying I just have all the notifications turned off and I update everything just before shutting the computer down. Also no app I actually deleted installed itself afterwards. Mac only works on Apple devices. But Linux can be installed on almost any device. It gives the user the most customization and freedom. And it is totally free . And there is no need to download a driver like in Windows. (Expect Nvidia drivers)

The one and only problem is that a number of 2D and 3D professional graphics applications don't run properly (or at all) even in Wine emulator (and often running an old version brings problems of all kinds). For graphic professional use it is a problem . As much as I love Blender and Inkscape, it's not enough for compatibility with many professional workflows and clients. For running "solo", freelancers that can afford to only take certain kind of projects, doing your thing in graphics, I think you could do with Blender, Gimp, Inkscape, Scribus and a bunch of proprietary apps (stellar mention: Davinci Resolve) that have a Linux version, and are usually well maintained, but not for the other very common way of working, where a company or client asks you full compatibility with the latest Windows-only professional app (latest Photoshop, 3D Studio, etc), sadly. That needs more than just regular mainstream users swapping. It needs companies swapping, all their complex workflows that they have consolidated through decades, custom apps around it, etc. We might finally find a way, and now it is *A LOT* better than it was back in 2002 (Linux is immensely better, but also the apps... Blender was not the very high end 3D package that it is today). For now it is a problem to go Linux-only in these fields. Reason why many people keep dual booting. I have had even 4 OSes in the same machine, long ago. There's also another problem that is neither Linux's fault. Drivers for specialized hardware. Colorimeters, certain printers, high end monitors, etc. For some reason, a number of hardware vendors don't produce Linux drivers or they don't maintain them too much. These two problems eliminated, and I would not purchase a Windows license anymore, to only use whatever the Linux distro, like I did in the past. But until then it would always bring too many problems. If was only for mainstream use (I am barely a casual gamer, if at all, and steam games are enough) I'd have switched back to Linux a very long time ago.

I really think that a lot of people who hate Windows would have had a very different experience if most Windows PCs didn't come loaded by the manufacturer with so much junk. Every time somebody in my family buys a new laptop, the first thing I do is quickly wipe it and reinstall clean Windows. This shouldn't be necessary, but it makes such a huge difference to the user experience.
I bought an iMac a few years ago after getting sick of Windows. MacOS felt backwards and outdated, and the app store felt like a ghost town. It asked for my password every friggin time I wanted to change a typical desktop setting, there was no "show desktop" button on the taskbar, and when I had multiple apps open, I couldn't hover over the icons in the taskbar to see a preview thumbnail. Apps were so sparse that if the available app couldn't do what you wanted, you were pretty much screwed for an alternative. I went back to Windows, but today's Windows sucks 😕

Ultimately I switched because I got sick of the crashes with windows and I can say that Mac OS does seem to be a more stable operating system. I haven't had any problems, but I also can say that there are a lot of things I miss that Windows did right. The Windows management, the file explorer and the touch screens with a lot more optimized software for touch in particular are noteworthy and work really well and as a Windows user I actually really miss these things. I choose Windows 11 over MacOS any day of the week. GNU/Linux is obviously preferable, but given a choice between Apple and Microsoft, Microsoft is the clear winner. Why? Three reasons come to mind:
1) Window management is atrocious on MacOS.
Windows management is coming in September, but I’ll keep using the $12 utility because it’s the best Windows management solution I’ve ever used.
Regarding the windows management utility, yeah, maybe there's some solution out there that makes MacOS usable, but I want something that works right off the box.
@@guanxinated You make good points. If I ever need an app that can handle protein folding, I’ll keep them in mind. For now, I’m happy I can run Windows and Linux on my Mac for the rare times I might need to.

PS: concerning window management, it’s funny, but personally I found it to be the best once you know the Rectangle shortcuts. You got more possibilities with them than on Windows and they’re simple to get used to. And the rest is similar.

Yes, you cant run some programs on linux but that can change when more and more people switch to linux. And who decides how many people use linux? Correct. The custormers/users. And lemme tell you a secret: You are one of them. Thats why i decided to switch from windows 10 to linux.
No one is interested in learning how to code just to play a game.
That all sounds great...if Linux was actually practical for like 90% of people using computers.

I love how this is 100% true (linux/hacintosh user here)
W mans, it's sad hackintosh is going away soon
Every OS is everyones choice,I'm using Windows because its my family os
In apple they don't treat customers like a product but a child! This should be a golden UX phrase!
The best Microsoft ad is the one with Steve Ballmer.
....and the second one with Steve Ballmer 😍😍
When I bought my Macbook in 2015, I thought I will not get back to windows ever again. But after almost 10 years I have found out, that OSX or MacOS has so horrible back compatibility, that I am back on Windows 11 where I can run programs from 2000 without a problem. I have old Adobe Photoshop from an era before subscription and if I would update my Mac, it would cease to work. So, MacOS … never again.
I need Windows to run *just one app* that is not available on Mac (Statistica) and I bootcamp'ed my older Intel-based iMacs to run Windows 10 on them. It feels really wrong to see those machines running such backwards software.
What movie is that windows clip from?
My first experience with Windows 10 was when I installed free version ("temporary free") and it launched Skype which was impossible to turn off/disable. Also Cortana and OneDrive were annoying. I stayed for a few days and just installed a custom Windows 10, which was modified to remove all the clutter and stopped the updates from being automatic.
So yeah, Windows has a great foundation, but paying a high price for receiving a clunky version with ads and persistent useless apps plus disrupting updates is one hell of a madness.
I don't think the people complaining about "ads" in windows 11 know the difference between a preinstalled ap and an ad. Windows has been putting preinstalled aps in the start menu since at least windows 8. It's no different than a OEM installing bloatware.
You don't even have to try, It comes easy for you.
The way you move is so apealing it could make me cry.
Less ram is more power, according to Apple …. Am dead 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
1:12 not putting BG3 on that list is a crime against humanity.
We need more Linux videos!
Well there is no ads on MacOs because you already pay a very overpriced product with a gigantic profit margin. So, no need.
Windows is always better for simple fact - 12 Games vs "more games" .
