Your paintings are always so beautiful. I know this was about the masking fluid but watching how you execute your watercolour is like watching performance art. Thank You
I watched til the very end. You cracked me up. I’m so sorry. ... I would mess up all the time so Sometimes, you just have to roll with it. I love watching you. You are so inspiring.
I think you have taught me so well about keeping the paper white that I don’t need that masking fluid. No need to do a study…I’m not a professional like you❣️ My study will be my masterpiece or not 🤷🏻♀️😆 Louise, coffee ☕️ first! I love doing color swatches with my paints (Royal & Langnickel Gouache) (Moz Art palettes) are quite good without breaking the bank…not quite up to Windsor & Newton prices so the colors you use, I have to get as close as I can to do your tutorials. Love these sessions and being a Patron…learning at my own pace. 🙏🏽🙋🏻♀️👍🏽Mia
My favorite artist EVER! Your voice is like an angel. Thank you for your tutorials as they are always direct and to the point without talking too much with empty words. Just saying
Thank you. Your such a great watercolor teacher. Im a beginner and i think i have learned more from watching just a few of your videos than i have from watching hundreds of others.
I liked the use of water to create the blooms, that suggested tropical leaves in the background. Your colours as always glow and draw the eye in. I can honestly say I have never seen anything you've painted look overworked. What a lovely home you have Louise. :)
Thank you very much Don. I do overwork. It's a habit I am trying to stop. I've got to learn to accept what the paint gives me rather than try and make it into what I think it should look like. Now the painting starts outside. I think we'll be painting from now until this time next year 🥴. Windows and posts are going a pale grey.
I'm so exited about this one! We have blue and white herons where I live. And I also live on a lake so we get to watch them a lot. They come into our yard but mostly they like to perch on our pontoon boat (and make a mess, of course). Hopefully I will be able to paint this one following your fabulous video! Thank you!
Good heavens, who could give your videos thumbs down? Your content is exceptional, instructions are clear and easy to understand and I could just listen to you for hours. I can't wait to give your paintings a try! Thank you for sharing.
I watched a youtube watercolorist who removes the masking fluid with masking tape. It was as if they were made for each other. i haven't tried it myself yet, but thought I'd pass it along for anyone with sore fingers lol. Love your videos! Such perfection!
I just love seeing every new video of yours appear! Love the heron - we have one in our backyard pond from time to time! - I'll look forward to trying it from your upcoming Patreon tutorial - thanks, Louise! (and enjoyed the bloopers as always, so funny!)
This tutorial was great. I did not know you can use masking fluid over a portion that is already painted ! That is a game changer !! I only used it in the beginning on the blank white paper. Wow !
My word! The amount of direction that you've provided in this video is causing my mind to hop and dance with glee and joy. You've given me enough confidence that I could create something of my own given the tips that you've painstakingly provided. Thank you. What a kind and generous act.
Absolutely love this video and painting. If I have no masking fluid I sometimes use white ink is very sharp and crisp for whispy white feathers and goes on opaque,
I love your art work!!! You shouldn’t have any fear.!!!You are a very accomplished watercolorist! Your style is so expressive and beautifully realistic! Thank you for sharing!
Hi Louise, I truly enjoyed watching how you painted this magnificent Blue Heron. The masking fluid really helped on the long white feathers, Thank you. Helene
I just recently started following you. I just got to this video and I love that you put the bloopers on at the end. I have learned a lot from you already. Thank you.
So happy to hear that we will be getting a full length tutorial of the gorgeous piece. The veranda looks fabulous! Your husband is so handy! Congrats on a job well done. (I assume he did it since he is so talented.)
Great job on the video Louise! It is so helpful when you turn the paper so that we can see clearly where the masking fluid is. Can’t wait for the tutorial info link! Excellent job!
This was so helpful! My edges are always wobbly and I think takes away from my painting. Putting the masking fluid on the edges of the subject is AWESOME. Thanks so much.
I love this painting!!! I'm glad you showed how to mask the edges of a sketch prior to painting a background. I'm always afraid I will mess it up when doing backgrounds so don't so many of them. You are a marvelous teacher!!
I just love this piece...I use masking fluid, but Ive never thought to use it on top of colour already painted..I feel excited at the potential..thankyou Louise!
Thank you, Louise for sharing these videos. I am stuck in a point with my art where I just play with art supplies, but can't show too many finished artworks. Seeing your process and how you work things up in your sketchbook is very inspiring.
we could use colour shapers also for masking fluid....as one artist had shown in you tube...these are pointed rubber tips .......which is easy to clean than synthetic brushes
Hi Louise, your paintings inspire me. But there were days when I really wanted to paint but uninspired. I was wondering if you can share some exercises you do when you find your self unsinspired. Thank you!
I am so excited to FINALLY learn how to use wc paint. After watching hundreds of tutorials, and giving it much thought, I am happy to finally join you on Patreon! Your ability to teach is exceptional, but what really makes your work phenomenal, is that you incorporate the natural beauty of the medium into each piece. (you take 'requests'? oh... how about what "overworking" an area /painting looks like and how to prevent it... or perhaps the thought process/planning involved in moving from reference to line drawing to painting... ie how do you remember where to shade or plan highlights.. or how to know how many layers of paint are required vs too many layers)
Thank you so much for this tutorial! It was very helpful. Much appreciated. I loved the out takes at the end! Hilarious! (and a little frustrating I am sure)😊😉💚🌿🎨
I recommend silicone clay shapers for applying masking fluid. It rolls right off them. They come in various sizes and shapes. I am enjoying your videos and work! Thank you for sharing!
Beautiful! I know it seems unlikely but i have ancient windsor newton masking fluid i tested and it works a charm better than the new stuff inbought! Just kinda congealed and had to be shaken for a long time. Used to be my dads and it is still in a cute glass bottle. Almost full! I love it. A brand new molotow pen ruined a daisy painting and i dont trust it anymore.
Absolutely stunning work! I love how you started this... I personally hate masking fluid, not particularly the using of it, but more so the finicky nature of it drying out in the bottle over time. If I don't do a lot of making fluid work in a row, the next time I go to use it it's all gummy even when I'm careful not to shake it/introduce extra air to it. It worked so very well for you here though, definitely one of my favorites of your work. I can see it's value, but I'll be defaulting to white gouache over the areas I wasn't able to preserve lol :)
What about storing it upside down? This would create a natural vacuum. I have mine like that since I store all my paints and craft mediums this way. Another tip was to use a dipping pen to apply it therefore you have no worries about ruining precious brushes. Works a charm;)
Excellent video! Can you do a video showing your painting journal page by page? I think it would be very interesting to see the studies that you paint! Thanks
Thank you - great info. Just fyi - have you ever tried using embossing tools to apply masking fluid. Small ones can be used to apply really fine lines and the masking fluid just peels off after it dries. And your brushes are safe :)
Have been trying out masking fluid recently. My paper turned out to be too delicate for it. But I think this was a paper problem; a relatively cheap wc paper. I also have a block of 100% cotton fabriano paper that's waiting for me to muster the courage to start using it (any day now😏) I am sure that will be sturdier. That a beautiful heron by the way, I admire your skills greatly.
@@LouiseDeMasi Thanks for your reply. And yes I have heard that advice before, but as a relative beginner, I have untill now been a bit hesitant to waste good ( and expensive...) high grade paper on the first part of my learning curve. But I am now at a point, having practiced basic techniques for a while, and producing some paintings that don't look too terrible, that I think it's time to upgrade....
Thank you very much for your job! I love your videos! I follow you from Spain, and I learn a lot with you! I would like to know if you have a video teaching how to put a price to your job. Although I imagine it is very personal, perhaps you have some advice to share. Thank you again!
Fantastic video & painting Louise! I have a problem with losing my pencil drawing after applying some washes, however your lines are still fairly visible ... does that mean my washes are too dark or I’m using the wrong type of pencil?
I love everything you paint!!!! Just one question, when you do a drawing of a photo, do you trace it or do your own drawing just looking at the photo?? I’m terrible at drawing so i would appreciate any help in this department. 🙂
How would this painting be.....if we used gouache white for feathers? is natural white of paper better as it is more natural than too b right opaque paint?
I use olive oil to remove masking fluid(I think it works, not sure it is a good idea). I add olive oil in a espresso cup about a teaspoon and rub the brush and then I wash with soap and rinse it.
Hey louise, I love your videos so much! But I notice you always use paint brushes to paint on your masking fluid.. How do you clean them off afterwards? Your using nice brushes and i always ruin mine when I do that 😔
I love your paintings and your style of teaching. The bloopers show just how hard you work making these videos. Thank you so much for doing them.
Wonderful session.
I’m a beginner and find your teaching style very informative and soothing to work with. Thank you🇿🇦

That's a special compliment. Thank you Guy.

I love your sense of humour in your outtakes. They make me 'lighten up' when I make mistakes (discoveries) in my own painting. 🙂

use test patch with masking fluid....excellent!
Outstanding rendering of a heron! You have mastered watercolor techniques and i am in awe of your talent. Thank you for sharing your gift with us.

Beautiful work. Thanks. The thre with thumb down are jealous of you
What a beautiful heron and a great job on the veranda! Hope you get to enjoy it over the weekend 😊
Thank you Sarah! Now we've got to get out there and paint it and the windows and pots as well. 🥴💕
Thank you so much for sharing. Beautiful.
So grateful for the instructions on this masking fluid! ( love the saw & hammer bloopers!😲😆)
Thank you Louise. Looking forward to the Patreon instruction. It may be exactly what I need to get out of my slump.

sujanith tottempudi I have those in several sizes for my polymer clay and never thought of using with watercolor. Great tip.

Beautiful, and I love herons. Thanks for the masking tips - much appreciated. What purple did you use? Was it straight from a tube or mixed? Thanks
Have you tied an art ruling pen for applying masking fluid?
No I haven't Karen. I don't have one but I've seen them in use. 💕
How would this painting be.....if we used gouache white for feathers? is natural white of paper better as it is more natural than too b right opaque paint?
I find De-Solv-It will get masking fluid off brushes, then wash again with detergent and water. Use acrylic brushes though.
When you use guoche do you use it straight out of the tube of do you add some water. Don't know of I spelled that right.
I use olive oil to remove masking fluid(I think it works, not sure it is a good idea).

Another useful tip: before taking it away, be sure that the paper is really dry, otherwise you'll pull it off together with the dried gum.
