    These are by far the most satisfyingly realistic sounds I have ever heard from an electronic setup.
    SD3 pisses all over the built in sounds from ANY of the modules out there and no one better than Ralf to demo it.
    What a superbly musical and inventive drummer.

      I’m confused too. I need 15 inputs for all my drums and cymbals and 2 pd-8’s. I don’t think I can do that with a TD-17. I would be happy as hell if true. I’m convinced I need the TD-30. The used one is saw yesterday was more than 1300$. Most were over $2000. The td-17 is only $620 new ! Yes, I’d do that if I can get 15 inputs..... and I don’t think that’s the case. Can somebody straighten me out? Thanks

    This is so good. I have ez2. I need to upgrade. The Ludwig classics 70 kit is worth the money alone to me. I had those kits and I played a lot of Cream tunes back then. But that kit would kill anything from the 60’s and 70’s. I love that it can made hot rod sounds and brushes too. Way cool. Blows me away

    My favorite sounding kit of all time was the Premier Genista kit I used to own, but had to sell because I needed cash at the time. This is damn close to the way that kit sounded.
    Also, the best snares I've heard yet.

      Thank you :) yes it was big fun, and the demo barely scratches the surface of possibilities. Tons of great samples in this software, and the electronic drums support/mapping has been improved a lot. Toontrack has done a great job with this & sets new standards.

    • @mrsayang
      @mrsayang 6 років тому +1

      drumtecTV yes it is clearly visible how flawless it works with your Pro kit and TD-25 setup. May I ask a dumb question?! Do you really trigger the SD3 software live while recording, or do you just record the Midi notes ( and listen to the TD-25 sound while recording ) and let the DAW convert the Midi to VST sound later after recording? Because I always struggled with the VST and TD-30 setup for live triggering. I always recorded Midi only while listening to the TD-30 sound and listened to the VST on my DAW later after recording!
      Thank you and keep up the great work. I wish you can do more videos like this with SD3 showing the other kits and sound presets.

    • @drumtecTV
      @drumtecTV  6 років тому +1

      Depending on your setup (CPU power, RAM, audio driver/System, audio/midi interface etc), it is definately possible to play live with latencies between 5-10ms, which is absolutely workable. But the resulting latency depends on all factors mentioned above & your audio buffer settings inside the DAW/system. Kind regards!

    I have the Yamaha DTX700 with Drumtec drums . Like the chap in this video I have a Sparkle Snare and my others are Black !! I went two smaller top toms and a larger Tom as my Floor Tom.
    I added in an old Roland mesh as a further Tom pitched a little higher than the floor Tom - I can get a 4 drum run on that when needed. These DrumTec mesh drums are realy good value when you compare them to the top of the range Roland Mesh . You get far more for your money and better looking Drums too - I have been playing Drumtec for a few years now and I would not swap them for gold !!

    Great drummer you are! I am surprised you haven't done a video with drum-tec drums with BFD Fxpansion drum software! In my opinion it is the best of all of them! You can choose DW, Pearl, Pork pie,or whatever set you want and also choose cymbal choice of Sabian , Zildgian and etc!. This is the drum software I use it in my studio and many other people do! It is acoustic samples recorded in 24 bit samples! I can not tell the difference of digital to acoustic drums with this great software! Would love to see you do a video on this BFD Expansion software. It blows away Roland sound modules and any others! Superior doesn't even rate to that quality! Whilst someone could use this BFD software with stand alone or DAW they can also use it as a slave with a laptop computer live with zero latency! Thank you for the great video's! Hi Friend! Sorry just saw this. I have Addictive Drums and I'm not a huge fan. I love the software and they have tons of editing options, but their drum sounds are nowhere near as good as Toontrack's. If they update their library of sounds I would probably love it! I haven't tried Steven Slate Drums yet. I would love to, but I use all drum software in standalone which they don't have.

    • @drumtecTV
      @drumtecTV  6 років тому

      Hey Lorenzo, thank you very much! :) You can reduce hot spot issues with the type of meh head you are using (drum-tec Real Feel f.e.), tuning of the heads & adjusting trigger settings. In the end it is all very individual, so sadly there is no "one for all" solution, as every drummer plays a little different when it comes to playing technique, dynamics etc. Kind regards!

    All I can ask from Roland is to please work a deal with Toontrack to get the sounds from the Super Drummer 3 and for that matter with the additional Decades SDX into the TD-50X, or a new model (60X) I imagine you won’t be able produce them faster than they sell. Great playing. 50X with SD3 snd your kit work well together.

    Hey Drumtec people ! Thanks for this stunning video ! Now i watched this, I'd like to know which would be the best stand-alone set up (drum module + pads) whose specs would also exactly meet (without extra standalone features) DrumVSTs needs to make the most of it
    (I mean, no need to pay extra money if "better" stand alone setups have specs that are not taken into account by VSTs ; yet whose sounds feel more realistic to most drummers) ;
    Extra question (feel free to answer or not) : which setup feels better when you play it : a good e-drum like the one in this video PLUS an excellent drumVST, Or a standalone e-drum such as a TD50 ?
    Thank you, i love your videos !

      Az The Drummer I imagine the sample size differences between the TD50 and SD3 are huge. I believe SD3 is 230GB of raw sounds. It's no comparison. I own a TD50 as well and I hope Roland goes the route of Pearl and just use VST software for their next flagahip drum module.

      KoRnKnoTTeR that is true the drum sounds nice it's just the way it makes roles sounds does not make it enjoyable the td30 sounded way better with roles but the sound of the drum it's better but the way it's sounds with roles it's not good you would think you would get both speeding that much off a kit of this level

    • @henrikpetersson3463

      Actually it still has a machine gun effect, but it's not as noticeable. Thing is that samples are only one hit in isolation. When you hit a drum multiple times it starts to resonate in a way that you don't get with samples.
      I guess some kind of hybrid sample/modeling would be able to adress this in the future. It's one of my main issues with using drum software instead of real drums.

    • @IRLguy777
      @IRLguy777 5 років тому +3

      @@henrikpetersson3463 SD3 and some other VSTs have multiple hit emulation or "smoothing" which replicates rapid repeated hits of the drums and cymbals. Of course, it isn't perfect but I've heard it in action and it's fairly accurate, plus you can adjust the amount.

    • @henrikpetersson3463

      IRLguy Yeah, I know. BFD3 has had it for a long time as well. It's an improvement, but still far from realistic. For some playing styles it matters more than for others.

I thought with a Roland module you could only get positional sending when you use the actual built in sounds from the module ? Anyone ?

    Does this re produce rim shots and everything all live??? Also does this put every drum/cymbal on their own MIDI note? (Ex. Drum rack in Ableton allows you to make a snare drum a note in the piano roll and Toms other piano roll notes etc). Just wondering how in depth you can get with mixing with this set up! Thanks

    • @drumtecTV
      @drumtecTV  5 років тому

      Hey Kurtis, yes every trigger zone coming from the sound module has it´s corresponding trigger zone in Superior drummer (midi mapping). Superior drummer also has round robin sample (slightly alternating samples for rolls) and positional sensing abilities for snare & ride cymbal (if your sound module & pads are able to reproduce this in the first place). If you need further info, please don´t hesitate to get in touch with our service team through info@drum-tec.de!

    Hi, nice drumset also great drumming. I'm just curious why did you guys using MIDI out instead of USB-MIDI? any difference? cause I found mine (TD-17) not triggering well using USB-MIDI especially when snare head changed to Drumtec Real Feel. But triggering still works OK when using onboard sound.

    • @drumtecTV
      @drumtecTV  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you very much! Well, if you are using the most recent driver for your TD-17 module, both midi options should work equally well. If the snare triggers well in your module but has problems in the software, it might be a problem of the mapping preset in SD3 or the sensitivity might need some additional tweaking. KInd regards!

    How would you compare this setup to the Mimic Pro, especially for live .. sounds, playability and latency. I talked to you last week about my glitching problem with the VH-11 and the Mimic Pro. I got it a lot better. Thanks for your help!! I own both, the Mimic and SD3. I need to tell you that I'm NOT a drummer, I'm a bass player who can play some beats. While setting up the hi-hats in SD2, I found the mapping page with the software visually showing the levels of openness as you played, very useful. Is that feature gone in SD3?? Great playing, as usual!!

    • @drumtecTV
      @drumtecTV  6 років тому +1

      Thank you! For live playing, I would prefer the Mimic Pro without any further laptop/interface/sample library add ons :) as the Mimic has very good playbility, high quality sounds & a stable fast system, that is the way to go for live situations (in my opinion). Otherwise you will risk damage (depending on the gig & time for setup/change over) or computer system instability (bugs, heat etc). For multi channel audio output from SD 3.0, you would also need a big audio interface with enough outputs, which the Mimic already has onboard. Kind regards!

    Great video and masterful drum playing.
    At any time, did you ever run into low volume levels coming from SD3? My sensitivity on my pads are to the max. My velocity strikes are 127. But I have to have my headphones cranked to hear a good sound when playing my edrum kit with the TD-17 and TD-6 modules. Any suggestions?

    • @drumtecTV
      @drumtecTV  4 роки тому

      Thank you very much! Do you think it´s a volume problem or a dynamics problem? Are you using the correct mapping preset for your module inside of Superior Drummer? Then the dynamics per se should be ok. Maybe the headphone output of your audio interface (what are you using to monitor?) is too low or the ohm resistance (hope this is the correct word in english) of your headphones is too high. What headphones are you using & what ohm count is written on them? Kind regards!

    • @CaptKewl
      @CaptKewl 4 роки тому

      @@drumtecTV Thank you for the reply. Very kind of you. I think it may be a dynamics problem (at first thought). When I use the mouse and click on any of the drums, the sound is very good. I use the Roland TD-17 mapping preset. It was a good starting point for me. I added the additional drums that were connected to the TD-6 by remapping them to different keys.
      I use the Yamaha AG06 Mixing console. It allows me to monitor audio with my monitor speakers or using my Yamaha stereo headphones. Everything else I monitor from the AG06 sounds very good with good volume (from gaming to mixing in my DAW). I don't think it's the ohms because every other application sounds great with them.

      @@drumtecTV Hi there! I recently bought the Roland TD27 with you guys! It is a great kit. However, i am now running into the same problems that @JasonRaskie mentioned before. I am connecting the module through the UBS-B to my MacBook Pro. I did follow a tutorial how to connect a TD17 to SD3 and the connection is established successfully. But when playing, the triggered sound of each pad/cymbal is really low. If i click in the drums on SD3 they sound loud and clear. This module is not yet available in the list of presets so I did tried without any preset and also with TD17, TD25 and TD50 but all of them show the same problem. I read on forums that this seems a usual problem since TD25 modules connected to SD3 but have not found an answer yet how to solve it. Do you have any suggestions to work around this issue? Have you connected your TD27 module to SD3? I greatly appreciate your help! Thanks in advance

    • @drumtecTV

      @@camiloruiz9928 Hey Camilo, sorry to hear that! No, I have not yet had the chance to hook up the TD-27 via USB midi. This demo was done with a TD-25 & there were no problems as far as I remember.
      But: I didn´t use the TD-25´s USB connection back then, but the module´s midi output & ran this into my audio interface. So maybe the problem might be the USB midi connection of the module? (my TD-30 is working fine at the studio through USB midi though). Have you installed the TD-27 audio/midi driver from the Roland website yet?
      All Roland modules should actually output the same basic midi information more or less, so at this moment I couldn´t imagine what other reason for this problem there might be. You should be using a TD-50 preset in SD actually, which can make use of the positional sensing on snare & ride (TD-17 won´t). If you have the chance, try using an external audio/midi interface & midi cable without the module´s USB connection maybe, just for trouble shooting? Kind regards!

    3:55, it plays four of the same(i think?) snare samples in a row, is this a superior drummer thing, or the drums not having enough velocity sensitivity?
