Happy Tuesday! Please vote in the poll I just posted. I'm wondering if I should go through the rest of this album (aside from the tracks I already know) or if I should skip around from other albums. Thanks for watching! :)
"Sci Fi Crimes" and "The North Corridor" are both GREAT albums, from beginning to end. I agree Chevelle are extremely overlooked and for fans of bands like TOOL, they are really missing out. I see Chevelle live whenever they are around!!!
“Why aren’t they bigger” has been a question I’ve pondered on since I found them in 2004. Every album is consistently great. Hopefully your vids will lead them to some more fans! Please do the whole album!
Chevelle is one of the best-kept secrets in music. Along with Breaking Benjamin. These two can play Lalapalooza and Ozzfest and everyone in attendance will love them. They are so well-rounded that it is hard not to like them. The problem is most people just rely on traditional radio. Yes even in 2021. So I suspect that their fan base is wider than one may think. Chevelle has those fans that are like most of us that jump at the chance to watch a new Chevelle reaction, like yours, cause we know every song and every lyric and then there's those that only know The Red. Which is fine, but they are so underrated it's a crime.
@@MusicCatsandCoffee Ben has performed CheVelle covers and has told interviewers that he is a CheVelle fan. Here’s a clip of Ben and Pete performing “Closure” together. ua-cam.com/video/pYCWa-eTN2g/v-deo.html
OOOOOOO!!! Ben was a total fanboy in this video! I'd seen a clip of Ben playing this solo. Thanks for sharing!! I was hoping to see this tour but wasn't able to go. :( It's probably for the best though, seeing as I wouldn't have lived through it. lol
Chevelle is one of the most underrated bands period. Once you do "turn on" to them however, you're hooked. They are consistenly putting out incredible music and have been over all 9 of their studio albums. As much as i love wonder what's next (definitely react to comfortable liar and Don't fake this at some point), I'd say continue to highlight songs from their catalog. My next suggestion is So long, mother earth off of Niratias.
This song got me into chevelle. They are my favorite band just edging out tool. Thank you for all the chevelle reactions. It's awesome seeing these...they are are to find without being radio hits only.
Like others on here, i have no idea why Chevelle reactions are'nt as big. However, i have loved these guys since i bought the first album. Literally any Chevelle song you pick will be awesome.
When their newest album NIRATIAS came out, I kept hearing reactors consistently saying, “I used to listen to them when The Red came out, but I just fell off.” I think you’re going to be pleasantly surprised when you dive into their catalog! Thanks for your coverage!
My Favorite Chevelle Song and Yes they should be absolutely a much bigger Band. The Clincher is also Absolutely Amazing. The 1st 7 songs on Wonder What’s Next are all Great 👍🏻
Being a Chicago resident and them being from Grayslake which is like 40 miles north of the city they are very loved around here along with Rise Against because they really gained a following through Q101 which was the local radio station and they were played ALOT on Local 101 if I recall it happened every Sunday night
One of the many things I love about Chevelle is they way Pete does his pick scrapes like the one at 8:08 for example. I honestly don't think I've heard any other band do them like that that I know of. Makes them stand out that much more to me.
Long time Chevelle fan here. 'Closure' is a great song, no lie, but Chevelle has some absolute bangers, and you deserve to know. Where I'm from, Chevelle makes it onto the Alt stations still, so what I'd consider 'radio Chevelle' would be tracks like 'Antisaint', 'Send the Pain Below', 'Jars', and 'The Red', among others (all are awesome; The Red is in 6/8, so it has a nasty groove) If you're looking for stuff off the beaten path, I'd recommend 'Clones', 'Until You're Reformed', 'Point #1', and my personal favorite track of all, 'Shameful Metaphors'. But yeah, anything they've ever pressed into a record deserves to be heard. Love the reactions, keep listening to this band.
I'm looking for ALL the stuff. lol :) Unless they have another song with the same theme and a line using a leech as a comparison, Closure will remain at the top indefinitely. :D
Not a fan of their acoustic though (one lonely visitor) esp. the recent ones, too high pitch, like how you describe in Self Destructor review, i have just the same feeling, i guess we have similar taste.. Forfeit, Dont Fake This, Send The Pain Below, Wonder What's Next, Until You're Reformed, Closure, The Red are my next favourites off this album 🙂 Like the fact that you comment on songs and not on videos.. just a suggestion, play it from the official audio, from the band's channel, unless there not one without video.. you can view the lyrics from another screen..
@@joyride8599 That's exactly what I do. I google the lyrics and play the audio from the band's UA-cam video. I don't put the lyric vid in until I'm editing it all together. So the audio is never from the video you're watching, if that makes sense. :)
This song and this album was crucial in my high school years! That was probably my favorite off the album. Id suggest forfeit next off that album! Great reactions by the way!
This is top 10 on my CheVelle list for sure. I think I could easily come up with a top 40 list. You have Pete’s beautiful angelic singing and his savage screaming on one song - yes please! 20+ years as a band, 9 albums. I saw a post that indicated CheVelle fans are called Chevellions, but I have not confirmed this.
Yes, Chevelle have gotten a raw deal over the years. Unsure why more people aren't into them. Me and all of my friends like them, but...we're cool. (I just checked out your Chevelle rankings list and the fact that you have "Send the Pain Below" at the very bottom makes me happy.) More great Chevelle: "Shameful Metaphors" and "Humanoid" Also, where are the Tool reactions? Check out "The Grudge", "Eulogy', or "Descending" (my current favorite)
I just discovered this band recently. I definitely heard “Send the pain below” on the radio when i was a kid. Im a huge Tool and Deftones fan so im confused as to why i havnt been through this bands entire discography. They have the greatest aspects of all my favorite bands combined.wtf
They have just been one of those bands that have been around forever and doesn't get nearly as much credibility as they should. I saw them live during this album cycle and it was amazing! They opened with this song and it was set off lol
Here's a couple fun suggestions for you. First, the band 'Jinjer'. I would suggest the song 'Pisces'. I think you'll have a really good time with that! I'm sure others have probably made that suggestion. Go for it! ;) Second the band 'Band-Maid', out of Japan. First song of many I could suggest would be 'Play'. I think you'll see a little pattern with these 2 bands. I'm not really a fan of Jinjer, but I do love Band-Maid. Happy Listening!!
If a reactor claims to have never heard/seen Pisces, they are just looking for an easy way to get lots of views. Yeah, I said it. So of course I know this song. :) But more importantly, why recommend a song from a band you don't like??? Never heard of the Japanese band though :)
Chevelle is a GREAT band. All of their songs hit just right. Closer is a top tier song but my favorite song that i dont see mentioned often is Ruse. Underrated maybe?
Do the whole album. You can't go wrong with that approach. "Comfortable Liar" is next on the album and it's a banger. I'll go vote on the poll though. As far as why they're not bigger, I'm not sure. It took me a while to get into them and I think it was because they were played on the radio a lot and those songs were just "good" to "really good", not great, and were really overplayed. However, some friends took me to a concert and to prepare, I listened to the whole "Wonder What's Next Album" and was blown away. Most of the non-radio songs are better than the ones I heard on the radio all the time. Finally, they're really good in concerts in small venues where they're headlining and I've seen them many times that way. However, I saw them at an outdoor festival as one of the openers and was pretty disappointed. Maybe that has something to do with it, I'm not sure.
As a huge fan of chevelle, but also tool and opeth, I think chevelle is only slightly underrated. While I love their sound, their music is very straightforward. While I find that refreshing sometimes, it doesn't make me as crazy as a more complex and more unique collection like those from opeth and tool. There were also a few meh albums over the last decade. You should do anything off vena Sera, this type of thinking, or Sci fi crimes if you haven't hit one from those albums yet.
2:12 Many People are not into the whole obscure and metaphorical lyrics style. That's my opinion. to each their own, I love it. I love Chevelle since 2002 . Go back even further and give Point #1 a try, from their first album.
Just subbed. Yes Chevelle is underated. However no we're near as criminaly underated as nothingface a metal band that came out during the nu metal era. Even though thier not really nu metal. It's like they were cursed, they barely vat a lick of success financially. However all thier albums got critical acclaim ( which is rare for bands like nothingface at the time). Please react to the songs "murder is masturbation" by them.
I live in Reading Pa and they were the lead in for Evanescence a while back, and virtually NO one knew who they were and Pete was visibly frustrated but they still finished the set for those of us that really were there just to see them. Personally I feel like they aren't bigger because Pete refuses to write lyrics and music "Everyone" can understand. Folks are all dumbed down these days by the Industry and they literally can't understand the songs, therefore they refuse to listen to them. Thier loss for sure. Ive been hooked for 20 years.
The song is about a dysfunctional family. While having family is a blessing, it can be tiresome. It's a sort of "sibling rivalry" song. The pauses have been a nu-metal staple for a bit. The band Helmet helped pioneer that kind of heavy crunch with a pause and back and forth feel...it is like a seesaw. They have been compared to them and Tool because of the tone and aesthetic they use. They are not as complex as Tool, but they have the influence for sure. Continue to check them out since they have a lot of material.
I think the Chevelle problem is early on their radio songs were mostly tame, kind of sounded like generic rock of the 2000's even though their singles are seldom representative of their actual albums. I always see people saying "Listen to send the pain below and the Clincher" but those are also the people who probably didn't buy the albums and like generic rock, because (in my opinion) those are neither Chevelle's best or representative work.
"That note" is often referred to as "resolving". You can take a chord or interval that sounds a bit off (maybe has a flat interval or diminished), and make a slight change to resolve it to something more standard. Like a simple major.
I guess I understand that Chevelle's low popularity a little bit. Some people have included them in the genre column with some of the friendlier radio songs according to a similar template. called Butt / Rock. Right next to Nickelback, Creed, etc ... In my opinion, it's wrong because Chvelle, despite some very radio friendly songs, does a great post / rock / grunge / even with a little metal. btw. albums Wonder What´s Next with Hats On The Bull and N.I.R.A.T.I.A.S. are my favorites from them
Their first 4 albums are amazing and honestly no skips. They are really underrated and solid. This album and This Type Of Thinking are my favorites. So many good songs from these guys. You wanna hear a good early song from them listen to "Peer" I love that song.
They aren't bigger cuz they don't sound tough enough, it doesn't mean they're bad. They are better than a lot of music at the time, but that probably overshadowed it a bit.
