3:55 This clip was from the NL (National League ), the top tier of hockey in Switzerland. In the NL, teams can only dress a maximum of 6 non-Swiss players per game. That's what the guy was yelling about: "You wouldn't even have a job if you weren't Swiss!", which is a pretty bad insult to a Swiss player.
@@DNReacts well, I can't take all the credit... someone else commented that fact on another reaction video and I just remembered it when I saw the clip again
If you look up Probert, watch his fight against Wendel Clark in 92 please. As a Leafs fan so I was on Wendi's side but it was very close. And everyone knew it was going to be epic. In the time before social media and google, everyone knew the game didn't matter. Probert and Clark were going to go at it.
@DNReacts Check out his fights against Tie Domi (guy at the start you two couldn't hear). I hated both of their teams, but it was a lot of fun to watching a 6 ft 3 in monster fighting a 5 ft 10 pitbull (that'll make more sense when you see these two). If you haven't seen the mic'ed up hockey fight video I would check that out and the biggest hits compilations.
Opening quote was: "Don't dress Bure... don't dress Bure next game. Context: Pavel Bure was a fantastic and exciting offensive hockey player. The threat was indirectly saying "I'm going after your best player",
@@DNReactsbut you should react to Bure and Fedorov and all those Soviets with hands. Some context for a couple of these since I don't think you fellas speak hockey player haha. Pigeon = player who skates with skilled players on the ice and picks up their scraps to tally points. Hence, implied to have little skill. When Giroux asked Kessel if he's drinking pepsi, that was alluding to Kessel's noted love for hot dogs and hate for formal training. Despite this, Phil Kessel is one of the best athletes in the league. Clearly, the dad bod is peak performance for a human being if you take it from Phil Kessel. "Fuckin' Pigeon!" 😂Love Giroux. The guy he says this to is JVR, who played for the team and with him previously. A couple of years back when he came back to the Flyers, we all basically started to call him Pigeon, but in a loving way now. 😆
Diving in hockey is incredibly rare compared to soccer. It doesn’t hurt to fall on the ice, it hurts to get hit, but not to just hit the ice. Diving gets a massive target on your back immediately
I hate divers. But I gotta say in soccer the "rewards" for diving are waaaay bigger. It could lead to a goal, which is generally much harder to come by than in hockey. So since diving in soccer is subjectively more beneficial and the punishment more infrequent, especially in key situations, it happens much more often than in hockey...
@@ronalddelrosario7405 the consequences are also less harsh was my point though. Would Messi dive for a goal if it meant he needed to throw hands as well?
You need to watch the 1979 Boston Bruins when they go into the stands of Madison Square Gardens to fight the fans. The whole lead up and result is crazy.
For A little context the guy who was being asked if he drank A Coke today is Phill Kessel. It's well known he drinks Coke and has A couple hotdogs before each game along with A bowl of Wisconsin cheddar cheese literally as he's from Wisconsin. He's also the reigning NHL Ironman at 1064 consecutive games and counting. He also missed A lot of games in his sophomore year due to cancer treatment. He is loved by all his teammates.
There was also a big fight when Wilson from the Washington Capitals hit Panarin on the Rangers. He was a star and was hurt. At the beginning of the next game vs. Caps they had an all out brawl. I think that was the game you’re talking about.
When you guys spoke about the hockey game where everyone started fighting right at the beginning brought back a great laugh and memory for me. I used to live in Reno, Nevada, and a while back we had a minor league team. On the night I went we were playing a home and home with the team from Sacramento, California. Apparently there was some really bad penalties and fighting that went on the night before. To the surprise of the whole arena we had a special guest who was singing the national anthem for our game. That person turned out to be Tonya Harding, and if you don't know who she is, I'll let you guys do the research. Needless to say, as soon as the puck dropped everybody, including the goalies, put down the sticks and went at it. Priceless.
@@DNReactsSo, Tonya Harding was a very good figure skater, whose ex-husband then hired a hitman to kneecap one of her main rivals. She pled guilty to conspiracy charges, and was banned for life by the US figure skating association. She later competed as a professional boxer, because of course she did, and she's since bounced around various reality shows and the like, also appearing providing commentary on shows like "World's Dumbest Criminals".
Hard to believe, but you can't make up something like that. All the sports channels during that Winter Olympics covered Women's figure skating like it was the Superbowl!
There was a brawls between the Nordiques and Canadien during warmups...because a guy shot the puck in the net. Half of both teams got ejected from the game because it was against the rules to come back onto the ice after tou gobto the lockerroom There was 3 or 4 straight line brawls between Ottawa Senators and the New Jersey Devils. I don't remember what the reason was but definitely somebody took offence to something.
I forget who Montreal was playing (probably Buffalo) but they had Matthew Barnaby on their team and he scored a hatrick near the end of the season and in typical Barnaby fasion he showboated. That set the stage for a pretty good fight, and over 100 minutes in penalties when the puck dropped in their first match of the following season.
Great vid boys. Love seeing these. Guy at the end *really* wanted to make his misogynistic chirp 😂 got interrupted 3 times and just stuck with it. What a guy.
Boys in hockey love to swear. Loved Sill (on the Pittsburgh Penguins) taunting Dionne (I think he was on the Ottawa Senators at the time?). He taunts him and then says Dionne’s gonna kill me. Hahaha. There’s another one of Sill when he decides to fight someone and another player on the opposite team asks him to fight and he says no, I’m gonna fight this guy. You’re too big for me. Hahaha. Sill didn’t play long but he was funny. 😆 Good reactions!
Hockey players are, on average, the most creative trash talkers in sports. The rules have moved the sport away from letting guys actively try to murder one another on the ice (watch a line brawl from the 80s for comparison) so I think players might have redirected that energy toward more cutting words.
Boston, Philly and Montreal use to have massive fights in the 70's. No helmets and giant hair. Fights spilling into the crowd. I recommend looking into these teams.
The Flames guy was saying “get your own guy” bc someone else was punching or trying to punch the guy he wanted to fight. Totally normal back then. Also, the “crazy” guy that lost his shit was just hit by something thrown by a fan while he was in the sin bin. That’s why he was yelling it was gutless.
Watching another great show and I heard you mention Bob Probert so I have to put in another vote for Bob Probert. You won’t find a better fighter in the history of hockey. Thanks to you both
Gordie Howe could fight orthodox or southpaw with one punch knockout power. A boxing expert did an article about 20 years ago and had him as number one. On February 1, 1959, he had such an infamous beatdown of NHL tough guy Lou Fontinato that it made Life Magazine. Probably considered the most famous fight in NHL history considering it's age and lack of video. Lots of pictures of the aftermath, though.
First clip, occurred during the playoffs .. the player (Tie Domi), the enforcer for the Winnipeg Jets told the Vancouver bench 'Don't to dress Bure', Vancouver's star player, after the Canucks took a cheap shot and knocked Winnipeg's star player Selanne out of action. Meaning .. hell was about to go down.
10:37 you mentioned my hero. #24 B. Probert. We grew up in the same parts of Ontario, Windsor, On. He once beat my older step brother up. I never liked my older step brother.
at the very end the guy says "grab your balls ya tit-f*cker", that became the catchphrase for a character called shoresy in a comedy called letterkenny.
The diving they're referring to is probably not diving the way you'd think of a swimmer lol. They're talking about playing the refs and pretending to be tripped or something to get a penalty.
For the old clip at 3:00, the sound is probably coming from the TV camera. The technology for putting a microphone on a player was likely too bulky in the 1980s, and the old men who ran the NHL back then almost certainly would not have approved of it. They might have claimed it was a violation of the players' privacy, or that it interfered with the often-ridiculous policy of "let the players police the game." The NHL has never been known for being good at marketing its product; back then, there was virtually none. Have you ever reacted to an old-fashioned brawl of two entire teams? Before the late 1980s, every player on the bench could come onto the ice to fight and receive only the standard five-minute penalty. Now, it's an automatic ten-game suspension. My favorite is the "Brawl in the Hall" in 1986 between Montreal and Boston, because I watched that game (ua-cam.com/video/LFGEJBkvLao/v-deo.html). Pay attention to Chris Nilan, number 30 in red. The old Boston Garden had many flaws, one of which was that the path to the visiting team's dressing room was right next to the home team's bench. From after this fight until the new arena opened, a security guard held up a piece of Plexiglas when the visiting team walked past. It was called the "Nilan shield." Another famous fight was the "Good Friday Massacre" in 1984 between Montreal and Quebec (ua-cam.com/video/6B1-c3y_Vng/v-deo.html). Fun fact: brothers Dale and Mark Hunter played on the opposing teams.
The quickest way to start a fight in hockey is to touch the other team's goalie in any way. Another way is to put the puck in the opponent's goal when there is not live play happening, like after a whistle or even during warmups.
some of the nastiest are between Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames, rival teams from the same Canadian Province of Alberta. The goalie fight you saw was them. The city's hockey teams are fierce rivals.
When guys talk about diving, also known as embellishing... some guys will go down too easy to draw a penalty. It's definitely frowned upon amongst players. If the dive is bad enough, you can even get a penalty called against you for it.
The thing I definitely learned playing hockey for 40 years was and expanded vocabulary lol. Especially describing things that I did to their Mothers. But as a gentleman, I was polite. As in: "That's not what your mother said last night, by the way please tell her I said thanks again"
"Own guy". When those scrums breakout, everyone marks up. If one side doubles up on someone, things fall apart quickly. That was the ref telling him that he shouldn't be going after that guy.
An impaired Rob Ramage was driving and had a car accident which resulted in the death of his friend Keith Magnuson in 2003. Ramage served several years in prison. Good thing I looked it up, I had the story backwards in my mind.
"I think it involved Bob Probert" lolllll you guys are becoming real hockey fans- for those of us that grew up with 90s hockey you talk just like we did :-)
Amazing vid! Can you do a reaction on some highlights of the greatest goal scorer of all time in the NHL Alex Ovechkin! Would love it, keep up the good work!
What up nick and damo great video like the new times put two videos requests in hockey and American football requests on discord wondering when the next discord poll is coming
ray ramage was one of the most terrifying players in history and would ACTIVELY challenge the whole opposing team if someone on the other side laid a dirty hit, players like him are not in the league anymore and are SORELY missed
Diving its like faking to be tripped. Not acceptabel in hockey. In "soccer" football, its part of the game. In hockey, if you fall by faking it and the ref see it your going for 2 min.
There have been deaths in the ice. Freak moments really. Some close calls in the NHL involving jugular veins being sliced open by skate blades. But quick medical attention saved them.
nfl stand around scratching their balls for 10 mins and play for one. nhl are full bore 4 quarters uninterrupted , huge adrenaline rush, these guys are wired and in the moment, split second decision making, nfl has a committee meeting.
I too have no idea what that first guy said but that first guy was the infamous Tie Domi. I think some of the jovial nature of NFL mic'ed up moments is by design and editing. I'm pretty sure it can get pretty nasty in there too. Whereas these are very raw, unedited clips of some of the more ugly moments.
Players dive all the time in order to draw a penalty. Just like soccer. If the player behind you gets his stick anywhere near your skates, players dive as if they got tripped in order to draw a tripping penalty or if a player is behind you and is stick is anywhere near your waist they will dive to get a hooking penalty called
The reason you might not have seen any diving in the NHL is because there isn't much diving these days because they introduced an embellishment penalty. If they had that in soccer, 75 minutes of the game would be penalty time. The two clips of players bitching about diving were from European hockey not NHL.
The NFL Mic'ed up are now made from the league, the actual organization, so it's now entirely sanitized. They've removed most of the swearing. It's meant to present the league in a palateable way. The older ones have more shit talking. Now the players are mic'd it's not sideline mics. They players are trained to not say stuff they can't really air or have to sensor. So the NFL mic'ed videos they show now are sanitized. Watch some of the old one. As opposed to the clips in this video which are older. These are mostly from before the leagues got to using mics for marketing videos like "mic'ed up". Trust that the shit talking exists in the nfl, it's just that's edited out of current mic'ed up vids. Even the current NHL ones are typically sanitized because they now want to make videos like these for their website and youtube page and use it to draw in people and they also don't want the negative attention of somebody that's going to whine at all the cursing and whatnot. Even though we all know it's happening.
CANADA vs>USSR AND CANADA vs RUSSIA always a must see and what they do on ice is intense check them out they go back to the CANADA vs USSR series of 1972 best of 8 games ,even the canadian fans that went to the USSR in 1972 drove the soviet goverment nuts and has been ever since like that so the USA cant hold a candle .or stick .lol against that rivalry so please check that out another must see is the canadian womans hockey teams they are also a joy to watch and see how amazingly skilled they always have been

When guys talk about diving, also known as embellishing... some guys will go down too easy to draw a penalty. It's definitely frowned upon amongst players. If the dive is bad enough, you can even get a penalty called against you for it.
Some old clips too Ramage played for Maple Leafs in the late 80's
The thing I definitely learned playing hockey for 40 years was and expanded vocabulary lol. Especially describing things that I did to their Mothers. But as a gentleman, I was polite. As in: "That's not what your mother said last night, by the way please tell her I said thanks again"
The best is all the small town Canadian accents on the players, coaches and refs....lol. We run this show!!!! hahahahaha
And after the game they hug and get some beer. 😂
Love it! 🍻
Or in the case of Domi and Probert, go figure skating. See Battle of the Blades Season One
Most of those guys are good Canadian boys :)
If you havent seen dives you should watch and diving/embelishment compilation. doesnt happen very often like soccer but it does sometimes
8:45 Finally! A highlight that shows a NJ Devil.
Hockey trash talk is probably the best there is. I have heard some obscene shit at hockey games before. Like child’s games.
You guys should check out a video of NHL diving next! You'll see some good ones!
Rob Ramage nickname was indeed “the damage”
You need to watch Rob Ray from the Buffalo Sabres Fights. Domi and Ray had some great fights. You won’t be disappointed.
Thank you for the suggestion, appreciate it, will add this to our suggestions list 🤝
"Own guy". When those scrums breakout, everyone marks up. If one side doubles up on someone, things fall apart quickly. That was the ref telling him that he shouldn't be going after that guy.
8:00 I'm sure that's Rob Ramage. He played in the 1980s, so that's going back a ways. o
An impaired Rob Ramage was driving and had a car accident which resulted in the death of his friend Keith Magnuson in 2003. Ramage served several years in prison. Good thing I looked it up, I had the story backwards in my mind.
"I think it involved Bob Probert" lolllll you guys are becoming real hockey fans- for those of us that grew up with 90s hockey you talk just like we did :-)
Thank you, we really appreciate this comment 🙏
You're welcome. Keep up the great work!!@@DNReacts
How about Tim Hunter's mangled face in that Flames/Oilers clip! His nose should be the official logo of the NHL😂
Amazing vid! Can you do a reaction on some highlights of the greatest goal scorer of all time in the NHL Alex Ovechkin! Would love it, keep up the good work!
Appreciate the suggestion, thank you 🙏 I haven’t got the schedule to hand but I believe he’s due out this Saturday!
What up nick and damo great video like the new times put two videos requests in hockey and American football requests on discord wondering when the next discord poll is coming
Thank you, really appreciate that 🙏 Thank you for the requests. Discord Poll is overdue. I’ll try to get one up tomorrow. Been a busy one
ray ramage was one of the most terrifying players in history and would ACTIVELY challenge the whole opposing team if someone on the other side laid a dirty hit, players like him are not in the league anymore and are SORELY missed
If his name was Damage that would be even better LMAO
100% 🤣
Hockey players put even the most foul mouthed footballers to shame.
nfl stand around scratching their balls for 10 mins and play for one. nhl are full bore 4 quarters uninterrupted , huge adrenaline rush, these guys are wired and in the moment, split second decision making, nfl has a committee meeting.
There’s several games that start in line brawls
Bob Probert was a rare individual who was both a tough guy and a damn good player. o
Simmons was a dirty player. Dive king
He said "Don't dress Bure."
🙏
Hi Nick, diving is embellishing to try and get a call
Hey 👋
It seems to be the footage from Europe where they are complaining about diving.
The one who said “u shouldn’t have a job” is the biggest diver in sweden
Ironically, away from the game pro hockey players are some of the most affable people in sports.
Not necessarily diving but embellishment. People will say “you fuckin diver” instead of “you fuckin embellisher”
Domi was a beast.
We’ll definitely watch one of his videos. He’s popped up so many times already
Yea Rangers Devils started the game with everyone fighting immediately. We fought 5 on 5. It's a NY/NJ thing.
I love the pigeon..
Was brilliant, loved it!
@@DNReacts I can't even make a pigeon noise but now I wanna yell it at every other person haha
Remember brits albout 80% of thease players are canadians though as nails!!!!
Yall missed the pepsi line lol, phil has the absolute worst diet ever so they give him shit about it
Dive means pretend to get tripped or hooked or something to try and fool the ref into calling a penalty.
Thank you, appreciate the info 🙏
Go dye your hair is the best chirp ever
Definitely "wrong guy" lol
😂😂
To me it sounded like "you GET your own f-ing guy"
@@QuackAttack That's what he said "you GET your own f-ing guy"
Mic’d up nhl refs in great
Was missing some Canadian accent in my weekend...
There's MUCH diving in hockey!!!
It's faster, so not as obvious as in other sports. And in a league of tough guys, nobody wants to be "that guy".
Detroit cleaned house back in the day
I think you guys are in danger of becoming serious hockey fans. 😊
