The windmill is elevated on a swivel. It’s so that the building can be turned as the wind currents change. Correct me if I’m not 100% accurate, but also in times where there is little to no wind, there is a mechanism in place that allows for manual milling.
@@sicfrynut yes! Good point! However, water energy is basically free and doesn't change direction or power. I doubt there's much reason to build a windmill if you have access to running water, but I'm sure it happened.

1. The woodcutter lodge can be on its own as they cut down trees so I usually have that away from the logging camp. 2. Threshing priority should be set to low until all of your fields have been harvested. If it is medium or high, some of the workers will prioritize turning to grain rather than harvesting and removing the crops from the field. There is also a 99.99% chance of rain straight after harvest which will spoil the crop. Set to medium or high only once you have re-planted all the crops so you don't miss the winter cut off. Once you are in winter they can spend time threshing.
Woodcutters do cut trees. But from what I have learnt, they are using the branches for firewood, while the logging camp uses the main body, so putting them together let’s them work symbiotically. Also saw pit and hitch post next to logging camp is efficient. I have also started putting 4 or 5 houses nearby and assigning those families to the logging area, saw pit etc, and having a tree planter there so it ends up it’s own mini self renewing wood production centre.

Just a tip for your battles in this game. You should line archers up in long lines behind the spearman who are in lines 3 deep. Position your archers close to the back of these units then place the retinue or the foot soldiers on the flanks of the archers which you can then bring forward to envelope the enemy. You don't want to spread out your full army or have them move so far apart. It'll make it difficult for your troops to respond to attacks or changes in the ai direction
there's an opening for commander of militia i bet. i'd put in a resume if i were you. (he's losing a lot of money and people on bandit warfare.) at least he figured out how to use the mercenaries better. I didn't see where anyone answered the question about why the windmill was on a raised platform. It is to allow the blades to turn into the wind. It is an odd design as most mills turned at the top, this design seems to rotate the entire building.
Correct. Its called a 'Post Mill' because it sits on a post and the whole building turns. This design is very common in medieval Europe / England starting in the 1100s and was used until 1700s.

Love the video! Little tip for the vegetable garden: when lookong at the building options for the houses it tells you that the veg gardens efficency depends on the size. You vegetable gardens are to small. If you planning to build a veg garden or an orchard you need to build bigger plots of land to make them more efficient.
The strategy is to have open space. If you have a tree line close to your city they can sneak attack and your archers won't be able to shoot at them. Plus the people attacking you will have cover from your arhers.
Tip with the fuel usage early is it states burgage plots use 1 fuel per month.. that means whether they have a family in or not. Those extra 5 or 6 houses u have empty are what caused you to run out so quickly
1:17:34 Your mercenaries DIDN'T run off. They were defeated. But you were too worried about rushing the battle with the game speed increased and being distracted with looking around all over the map and not at the battle. You deserved those bandits raiding and pillaging your town for that! >.< Anyway! Keep going and never stop getting better!

I am glad when he screws up he usually puts in a little blerb of text saying what he should of done in the post production. It's always good to see him make these beautiful towns and cities.
The way this ended makes me rethink I want to buy this game. I enjoyed the playthrough for 3,5 hours, and then realized it had to end in 30 minutes where I felt you were only halfway in. Then you rallied up an army and just like that defeated your ‘enemy’, with whom you’ve had hardly any contact with up until then.
Tips for manor lords: don’t make a farm in early to mid game because it will take a long time to grow food or whatever instead buy chicken coups and vegetable garden.
You got me excited to play again because i understand the mechanics better, but the trade perks didn't work for me last night. Which sucks, but i understand there are obviously gonna be bugs. It's early access for a reason and it's still such a cool game I've been rewatching this after work though, it's very soothing watching your towns grow lmao
It would be really cool to see you continue this save and expand the resource production chains. Would be really cool to see the territory prosper now that you've taken over.
I'm sure this has been brought up by someone by now, but a Morgen is an old German farmers' measurement for an area of land. It translates to "morning", and was the area a farmer with an ox or horse drawn plow could work in one morning. Size used to vary and depends on the "texture" and firmness of the ground, but in modern terms, it is about 2500m², or one quarter hectare.
I'd really like to see a game like this be made into a competitive multiplayer game, like you and another person have to make competing towns and then you actually go to war with each other
Aside from changing the direction of the windmill to adjust to the wind direction, the height of the windmill was to help offloading large bags of flour on to carts. Had to do a little research but its fascinating!
Grain was harvested whole, threshing seperates the cernals from the straws, you cant hafe flour or bake bread without thrashing. I like that it is a thing in Manor Lords, because its usually not shown in video games. 😅😊
@City Planner Plays I don't know if anyone has answered your question yet ( 3:11:00 ), but the reason the windmill is on that platform is so that the structure can be rotated. Windmills would be rotated into position and then locked in place to ensure that the "fan blades" (I forget what they're actually called) could always face into the wind, no matter which direction it was coming from. Those blades turn the mill stones, which grind the grain into flour, so without any wind, the mill wouldn't function or would operate with reduced efficiency. If the wind was ever blowing from a different direction, the rotating mechanism could be unlocked, the bladed face rotated into position, and then resecured, allowing the mill to continue operating.
This may be my new favorite channel high hopes I am at the very beginning just started but I LOVE resource management games stellaris is my fav love civ love city skylines love sims
The thing with the windmill is that it is raised to make it hard for rats and other vermin to get inside, it also helps the sail get better wind contact.
A super cut you say ;)

thank you youtube algorithm this is exactly what i was looking for 🙏 been watching this video for 2 hours straight already and i will be continuing (tldr awesome video)
Reminds me of Banished! Looks like crazy fun, I always love your videos. Keep it up!
The odd looking windmill style is so the entire building can be turned to face the wind.
Loved the vision with this series I love watching super cuts in general
Just what I needed for relaxing, on my only day off! Love it!
for your next one try a peaceful huge building of a city that would be awesome to watch and play as i watch. thanks for the great work !
I am glad when he screws up he usually puts in a little blerb of text saying what he should of done in the post production. It's always good to see him make these beautiful towns and cities.
I was missing a walking from third person perspective through your two city's. Amazing let's play 😊
I have no idea who you are or what this game is but I've been invested in this for the last 4 nights great job
Such a ridiculously cool game, can’t wait to see more of it!
My favorite vid to go to sleep to rn. So relaxing 😌
You got me excited to play again because i understand the mechanics better, but the trade perks didn't work for me last night. Which sucks, but i understand there are obviously gonna be bugs. It's early access for a reason and it's still such a cool game
I've been rewatching this after work though, it's very soothing watching your towns grow lmao
Had to do a little research but its fascinating!
eeeexxttttrrraaaa long form vids are the BEST! i love being able to settle into a video for literally half of my work day.
Im going to wait till its finished but I've enjoyed it so far.
the windmill is most likely on those stilts to prevent rodents from getting in, eating the grain/flour, pooping inside, etc
I've watched the six-episodes... I think for learning the game, for new players, your videos are 😎... 👍
