      Laura Bradley I read that even well known brands (like CocaCola) taste different in each country, so I definitly think too that it won't be the same. But for me it would be totally okay and I still want to have onigiri in my markets :D

    • @TaraShulerAuthor
      @TaraShulerAuthor 7 років тому +7

      So true. All we have in convenience stores in the U.S. is junk like potato chips and candy and canned ravioli. A few have hot dogs or nachos, and some very rare ones have sandwiches or salads or pizza. But for the most part it's all just junk. And even if they did have onigiri it would be cheap garbage. :(

  • @Brim_the_Wizard
    @Brim_the_Wizard 7 років тому +57

    There's no way the 7-11's in the US could carry onigiri. They barely know how to make bread for their sandwhiches, let alone good rice for the onigiri.

      Also let’s be real most people don’t eat at a 7/11 in the US which is why they don’t have fresh food. So how long would that onigiri be sitting there

    This is so much fun to watch! I love onigiri, and I always wondered what a direct comparison between the stores would be like. I love it when the nori is crispy and the rice is cooked well, so I have a feeling I might like the 7-11 onigiri very well. But they all look yummy! Thanks for another great video! See you at the livestream!

    I love the framed poster behind you: Don't Grow Up; It's a Trap. How very true! The consolation, gentlemen, is that, when you retire, you get a second childhood, but this time without parental supervision. If you're fortunate enough to still have your parents in good health, they, too, are enjoying a second childhood and don't want you to impede on their fun, hence they don't impede on yours.

    Since you guys really like tuna mayo. Here at home we make Tuna with mayo and put corn in it (we just use canned corn) and serve it with a hot bowl of rice. Also When i make a tuna sandwich, I mix in diced up tomato, onion and pickles and put it on bread with lettuce or spinach (lol dont judge XD its really good).

    Family Mart is my favorite, followed by 7-11. I think Family Mart and 7-11 have the nori separated from the rice and it all comes together as you open the package, which is why it's crispier. I could be wrong, but I remember noticing that last time I was in Japan.

    I just went to my local asian store and bought umeboshi for the first time, but its really sour and salty, must try it more often to get used to it. 😆 Btw I use the same mold as you, I'm a gadget person as well 😄
    My favorite combinations of onigiri are salmon avocado, tuna mayonaise and chicken teriyaki 😍 I love to get my favorite furikake with seasame and nori into the rice before pressing the onigiri into the mold.

    I've been eating a lot of onigiri for lunch because my office is close to a Japanese grocery store. I usually buy the spicy tuna mayo, and it's pretty good. Unfortunately, they do not hide the Tuna in the middle of the rice, so as a result the nori looses it's crispiness quite quickly... However, onigiri and green tea is still my preferred lunch because it is so cheap and tasty.

    I'm sitting here losing my mind, "I WANT ONIGIRI IN MY 7-11!" *Poutsforbeinginamerica*
    While I'm no huge fan of a whole pickled plum, I like having a bit of it inside my onigiri it's really da bomb~, then any variety with fish eggs, salted roasted salmon is my next fav, tuna mayo takes 4th because it's not as salty but is still tasty. I like Japanese mayo a LOT. The nori on onigiri HAS to be crispy unless you're talking about the grilled variety because of the mouth-feel that replaces the satisfaction you get with both crispy and sticky textures.
