In appreciation for all the work Brian has been doing with us in the last few weeks, and he is not even a beekeeper yet, I wanted to gift him an established colony for him to begin his beekeeping journey. On this video we transfer some bees into the boxes he brought to me. Of course, I'm going to include a few more topics as well because I just can't help myself and I hope you enjoy watching. Thank you all so much for taking the time to watch and leave your comments as I love sharing my thoughts and actions with you. God's peace to all.
Mr. Ed
I knew about beekeeping in general, but I have learned quite a bit watching your videos. But really, I watch people's videos because of their personalities.
One of the main reasons I post videos about bees is to show just how much fun it is to be a part of their way of being. That being said, the joy each one of us are capable of expressing in the way we live our life, should be shared so that those who have not yet been able to do so can see for themselves it is an achievable goal. Thank you so much for following along with my adventures and sharing my happiness. God's peace Ron.
Mr. Ed
@@JeffHorchoff Thanks for the reply Mr. Ed. I love the joy that you get from the process. I do have a question though. I see you cleaning out the equipment after uncapping and spinning. We had a pressure washer in the army that put out a jet of high pressure steam. It ate through gunk and muck, but it didn't leave much moisture after. It evaporated. Would something like that clean it faster and sanitize it?
Have a great day.
I'm not a bee keeper, before I started watching your videos I knew nothing about beekeeping. Your presenting style and persona on camera is just so inviting, and the good humour you show in these videos make them a pleasure to watch. And obviously it helps that beekeeping is such an interesting topic.
I 100% agree. I’ve been a fan of mr Ed for years and you summed up my thoughts perfectly. Thank you 🎉❤
WOW! Thank you very much for your kind words, I never see myself as anything but a guy who loves bees, and to share my experiences through videos gives that aspect of my life great happiness. Thank you for allowing me into your life, and I hope you continue watching. God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
Having Brian is like having your own hive lifter. He is HUGE.
And you don't even need batteries to make him work, just some honey. God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
I planted a garden of catnip. The little flowers are blooming profusely and covered in several different species of bees. I'm so mesmerized watching them all. From honey bees, bumblebees, mason bees, and i even have a gigantic carpenter bee that drilled a hole into an old wooden bed rail & made a nest.😊
Sending positivity and prayers for blessings to Jeff & the crew & anyone reading. 🙌
Dear God, please bless the bees too!🐝 🙏Amen
Watching from northern Indiana
And I thought cats were the only ones that loved catnip! I did not know it bloomed nor did I know bees were attracted by it's bloom. Thank you for that bit of knowledge, your blessings, and for the time you spend watching my bee wrangling adventures. Until the next one, God's peace Christi.
Mr. Ed
Good to see you again Mr Ed .
God bless you .
Great to hear from you also Melad, it's always a pleasure. Thank you for your blessings and for watching. mGod's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
Looks like a great year there. Brian is getting some great bees. Much better than getting a package. It’s great to help out new beekeepers. Enjoying the videos. Take care and God bless.
With all the help Brian has been for me, giving him these bees is the least I can do. Thank you for your blessings and everything else you do for me Garry, God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
I hang bug zappers where I store my frames and it really helps with the wax moth issues. You had a great harvest. Thanks Jeff!
That's a new one for me, but it makes a lot of sense. How did you make out with your harvest? God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
@@JeffHorchoff Not too bad but nothing like yours. Thanks Jeff.
@@rodneymiddleton9624 😲that's not a bad idea👍 I think I'll try that one 👍😆

Good time Charlie has lost weight, he looks great. ❤
That's right, the new slimmer and trimmer Good Time Charlie. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. I really like the Bee Castle box's and the way they went together when you got them. Always enjoy watching your video's my friend. God Bless you all!!!
The Bee Castle box's are a great deal when purchasing them, and for beginner beekeepers, as well as experienced beekeepers, deals are a very good thing. Thank you for your continued blessings and for all you do for me. God's peace Phil.
Mr. Ed
For the price starting out they are very nice.
Love love love ❤️ ❤❤ watching you extract honey. I could watch them over and over!! Just love it any time any day. Thank you so much for all you do for the girls!😊
Every year Charlie and look forward to doing the honey harvest, and this year with all the help we got doing it, it made the job so much easier. Thank you for your kind words and for taking the time to follow along with all our adventures. God's peace Lisa.

Beautiful honey Mr. Ed, your bees did you proud!
This year and every year prior! Thank you Jesus! Thanks for watching. God's peace David.
Mr. Ed
I enjoy watching yall harvest honey it’s such a satisfying experience just to watch .. I am amazed at how much honey comes from the hives.. Wish you could have added that to this video .. The transfer of the hives was really cool to watch.. Thank you for teaching and sharing .. God Bless
I still have a few more videos to make concerning the honey, separating the honey and the wax, and then rendering of the wax. Heck I may even do one on bottling the honey as well. Thank you for your blessings, kind words, and for the time you take to watch my videos. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Fantastic video
Thank you from Central Texas 😊
Yesterday evening I spoke to the bee club in Marshall Texas, to bad you missed the evening. What a great club and members. Glad you enjoyed the video, thank you so much for taking the time to watch it. God's peace Cheryl.

Great informative video is always. With Brian in the background behind you transferring the bees he looks like the Abominable Snowman standing behind you anyway good job.
Yes, he is a mountain of a man, but trust me, there is nothing abominable about him. Thanks for watching. God's peace David.
Mr. Ed
Mr.Ed just a note on your dehumidifiers, if running off long extension cords need to stretch them out. It causes heat build in them if not. Cuts the efficiency and could cause a circuit overload. Great yt content!!
Thank you for that info, I will put it to use. Thank you for your tip and for watching. Until the next one, God's peace Alan.
Mr. Ed
Good morning Brother, have a blessed day.
Good morning Brian, you are up early this morning, have an early flight? I hope your day is blessed as well. God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
Thank you for the behind the scenes video. I really enjoyed seeing the different views of the abbey. It looks really beautiful there.
I have enjoyed your videos for years. You inspired me to start bees and have become involved in a local club and made some beekeeping friends. Real friends who we share a hobby and now real fellowship as we help each other. Oh the stories we can share.. 😂 as nothing runs smoothly or perfect.. but we laugh at our foibles.. trials and tribulations. This has become the best part of the hobby!
After 5 years, I have only 4 colonies/hives which is about right for me. Its a bit of work, but satisfying (even when we don't harvest or lose the occasional colony)
Can't imagine 200+ hives.. 😮
Thanks again..!!!!

There is so much poison Ivy growing around here, but thankfully it does not effect me...I think bee stings ward off the effects of it. God's peace Ruth.

Different type of video. Havent seen one like this before so it was informative regarding swapping hives over. Im sure BigBee Brian will enjoy them under your tutelage
He's ready to get them to his house now, and I do plan on doing a follow up once they are settled in. Thanks for watching. God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
Mr. Ed, I recently moved to your area, and am a 3rd year beekeeper. From watching your videos over the past several years, it would seem that you enjoy recruiting friends to help in your apiary during the flows - I’d love the opportunity to join sometime, as the exposure to your operation and knowledge gained from the experience would be worth its weight in gold (honey, of course😊) to a newer beekeeper like me. If you’re open to it, please send me a message on how to best contact you. Finally, thank you for taking the time to make these videos - I know you do it purely because of your love of bees (and all of God’s beautiful creatures), but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a tremendous investment of your time and resources, so thank you nonetheless. Best wishes to you and yours.
Love to have the extra help, contact me at

That is a nice colony, Brian looks well chuffed.
Just coming into our "quiet" time, but still plenty of forage for the girls. Seeing pollen going in.
Another month and hive inspections will begin and getting ready to do our splits.
Got a feeling in my waters that Spring is going to be early this year, some of my Birds have started nesting a month earlier than usual😳... As they say, no rest for the wicked... and here I was thinking early retirement was going to be more relaxing😂
Sounds like you are living the life Phil....just like me. Enjoy the Spring, and get ready to work. God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
@@JeffHorchoff Yep. Retire early, they said. It will be fun, they said.... What they didn't tell me is that the War Office will compile and curate even longer jobs lists🤣
Mr. ED you are a superior keeper with mostly superior queens that can perform well for years, too many bee Gods are making inferior queens that need to bee replaced every year or two because they are using the wrong egg, the worker egg is smaller than the egg laid by the queen in a swarm cell, keep up the good work!
I can not take any of the credit for the quality of our queens, I allow the bees to make their own queens all the time. And I do agree, they are some great queens. Thanks for watching. God's peace Richard.
Mr. Ed
With Brian's physical size, surely Jeff, his new nickname should be ,"The Honey Monster,". A monster in a nice way though, as he seems to be a gentle giant. Good luck with your new bees Brian. Jeff will you update all, on how Brian's hive goes in the future too, just asking. Thanks for sharing the video. Look forward to the next installment.
Another great name possibility for Brian, and one that for sure will be put into the hat. Yes, once he has got them set up, I already have plans to a video with their progress. Thanks for watching. God's peace Mickey.

Mr. Ed
Dang Queens didn't want to bee on Camera haha. Good one 👍 Thanks
They just try and make the beekeeper look bad...and they are very good at that. Thanks for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
I am not a fan of metal excluders though because the wires can get bent leaving a gap the queen can pass thru. It is not normal but this is one case I prefer plastic ones. I did another removal last week and got 4 gallons out of it. Straight out of the hive it tested 15.5% moisture content.
So far, I do not have a problem with them. I can understand what you are saying about them bending, so I will remember that for the future. That was some might dry honey from the removal, it must have been pretty thick. Mr. Ed
Hey Jeff ! Got a question, several questions, one , do you use your refractometor before you extract , even though most of your frames seem fully capped ?
Secondly, watched Bob Binnie explain that drying honey with fans and a good dehumidifier still pulls moisture out of wet honey even if it’s capped .
Here in coastal central Florida our humidity is usually high all summer . And we put our boxes of honey under fans for 3 days and that brings the viscosity from let’s say 19.5 down to 16-17 .
Didn’t notice if you use fans or not or if your readings are already below 18.6 ?
Mr. Binnie had 45-50 barrels that fermented on him and was in a rescue mode but shared with us all some good things not to do ! That’s an honest , humble man !
Love your videos , pick up a lot of tips from your adventures! We’ve always had great harvests with excluders on as well !
Thanks again ,
Mrs.Bees Honey
To bee honest, I never check the moisture content of the honey before extracting. I do run dehumidifiers and fans for at least 2 days before extracting, and continue the dehumidifiers after until all the honey is in the drums sealed. As successful as the excluders were, I will continue that practice for sure. By the way, I love Bob too. Thanks for watching. God's peace Edward.

Do the people supply replacement frames?
That's a killer deal for a 2 deep hive IMO. Probably more like a $350.00 value or more considering a nuc costs close to $200.00.
They do not supply replacement frames, it's an all around great deal which is why I make it available for beginners mostly. God's peace Howard.

Hi Jeff, love the channel.
Are your frames dry after
You extract or do the bees get in the peacock cage and clean them out

A sure enough good looking honey crop, but I have to go with medium honey supers, those deeps would to much for this old man to handle. Y'all have a good one now.

Always great to see you, jeff. I pulled honey today. Do you know Bob Binnie?
Everyone knows Bob Binnie, what a great guy and beekeeper he is. I hope your haul was a good one. Thanks for watching. God's peace Kevin.
Mr. Ed
Bob is great. He spoke at our county bee meeting, once. Im in pickens SC. bee well honey, kerry owen is the owner.
Quick question. How much maintenance do you have to put into that many hives? Is it a daily thing or do you for the most part just leave them alone until its time to place/puck up supersonic and the occasional split if they run out of room? Or do you just let them swarm?
Almost none. As I do not treat, feed, or inspect our hives, there is no maintenance. I am a very much "hands off" beekeeper and strongly believe the bees don't need any help. I do however split them in the spring to control swarming, add supers as the hives grow, and come summer, I collect the rent and process the honey. I do not recommend others to follow my method of keeping bees, but if works great for me. Thanks for watching. God's peace Joe.
Mr. Ed
@JeffHorchoff Sure sounds like it works for you. I'm petrified of bees, in general, so I'll leave it to you professionals! Stay safe.
Curious why you didn’t move the brood down to the bottom box.
That's where the bees decided to place it and I never try to outguess bees, they are a lot better at being a bee than I am. Thanks for watching. God's peace Beverly.
Mr. Ed
I'm thinking about swimming across the Pacific ocean right now 😂😮 you're selling twenty frames for 360 NZ dollars 😮 man it costing me 340 dollars for a five frame mated nuc from a Christchurch Carniolan breeder over here😂 that's it, I'm emigrating 😂 wow, that's a great deal. Fortunately we now have a Carniolan breeder in the south island and it's a one time experience because I'll be breeding my own queens ( our bee's in central Otago are either Italian or Italian/ dark British hybrids and they're grumpy 😂) so excited to see how these Carniolan hives are going to go, I'm in the mountains so it's a little colder than most of New Zealand in spring and early summer and way hotter in summer when our thyme nectar flow starts. Looks like you guys are having fun 👍👋
To tell you the truth, I'd love to be a beekeeper in New Zealand. I probably have a romantic ideal of how it is to be one there, but you have such a beautiful country. However, regardless of where we are as beekeepers, we truly are blessed to be able to work with one of God's wonderful creations. All the best towards your journey and experiences as a beekeeper....especially in New Zealand. Thanks for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Currently it's minus 4 Celsius and I've been working on the new apairy site which means digging old dog rose brambles out by hand with a pick axe and shovel because it's a remote site with no vehicle access but nice view of the mountains though, and it's surrounded by European elderberry bushes, dog rose brambles and common thyme so it smells nice😆👋 if you want the best apairy spots sometimes you gotta go into places no other beekeeper in their right mind would even look at😆 God bless, can't wait to see your next video👍

Thank you for sharing your experience with the honey excluders,,,,,, I mean queen excluders. A great share to settle the debate, your thoughts are appreciated. We can trust what you say. Watching from outside the US. Truth is such a great way to live life. It's hard to understand the attraction to listening to lies. The Lord works in mysterious ways. Seems now, lies are OK.
You are very welcome. For years I have been hesitant about using them, but after losing so much drawn comb to wax moths because the queen laid in our honey supers, I gave it a try. And yes, I will continue doing so in the future. In this case I don't think it is a matter of "lies" that color the picture for so many beekeepers, rather, it comes down to personal choices on how to keep ones own bees. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. I need to get me some of these local bees, because one of my packages of bees are not progressing very well
I always recommend buying bees from the area you live in, they are already acclimated to the particular environment, and as such, they have a head start over bees bought elsewhere. I'm in the Broussard Louisiana area. I'm hoping to come meet you sometime
I was just wondering if you ever rejected a hive removal and for what reason?
The only time I have not done a removal is if there are dangers associated with them, no removal is worth my personal safety. Thanks for watching. God's peace Wilma.
Mr. Ed
How can we buy the two deep boxes from you?
For sure, get in touch to work out the details. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Hey Mr. Ed. Do you think the hive could be queen less, Did you happen too see any eggs, Might be a good Idea to put him a frame of fresh eggs out of another hive to see if they start building a cell, thats one thing i try when I can't find the queen and don't find eggs. Have a bless Day
The hive is not queen less, as I did see brand new brood, but it is not surprising not to find her with so many bees in the box. Thanks for watching. God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
Hi there.
Jeff . It’s dearth time? Does that mean it’s time to feed pollen patties and sugar syrup? If so from now till about when? Next spring? 😮
During the dearth in the area you live in simply means there is no "major" nectar flow which translates into no significant nectar is coming into the hive for the bees. If a beekeeper wants to feed their bees at that time they can chose to do so, but for me, I do nothing as I am a hands off beekeeper and believe the bees need to make it on their own. I do not recommend following my method of keeping bees, but rather recommend that each beekeeper keep their bees the way best suits their own needs and if that includes treating for mites and feeding bees during dearth's, then do that. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
Loved the video but, I cringed a little at the idea of putting out freshly spun honeycomb to be cleaned out by robber bees that close to other hives. From everything I've learned it's like inviting trouble for all the other colonies, especially in a dearth. I hope you show if Brians bees made out ok after being disturbed that much then being hit by all that robbing pressure. They wouldn't have even had a chance to get their defenses set up yet. Please update us on what happed here all the way thru to Brian getting his bees to his new apiary site. 🙏
I have always had bee hives on the back porch when I place our honey supers out to be cleaned up and never has one of them been robbed out because of it. Still, if you feel better not doing that, then I would say don't. I do plan a follow up video on Brian's bees once they have settled in at his place, stay tuned. Thanks for watching. God's peace Tommy.
Mr. Ed
I had a bad experience with excluders my 1st year of beekeeping so i never used them again...maybe ill try
I have not been a big fan of them either, but after seeing how they did for me this year at keeping the queen out of the honey supers, I'll be using them from now on. Thanks for watching. God's peace Nate.

Mr. Ed
Question, Is it safe to move bee's across country to a new permanate home, having to retire due to a stroke.
It has been my experience that moving bees when the temps are high, over 80 degrees, they often time perish when locked up. Still, if it is your only option, then go for it. I will add your name to my prayer list in hopes of a smooth transition for you. Best wishes and God's peace Jess.

Hello Ed, do you ship a hive of 20 frames to Austin, TX ? If yes, I like to have a 20 frames hive
Sorry, I do not ship, the bees would not make the trip without dying. Thanks for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Which city do you locate ? I will check to see how far away, I may go to pick up a hive if it is not too far away
@@JeffHorchoff Hello Ed, could you ship just the well drawn frames without bees ? I need more drawn frames, but my bees don't draw it even I coat beeswax on the plastic foundation.
👍🏻🐝🇧🇷
Seems like you should have folks bring you new supers and some cash in exchange for a hive so you don’t have to swap out the frames.
I had considered doing that originally, but as it is so expensive already, and most have the equipment to begin with, I decided to go this route instead. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
Are wax moth larvae the reason wax turns papery ? Or is that just what happens over time ?
Bees wax will dry out if unattended, but once the bees get back on it, it becomes just like new again. The wax moth larve burrow through the comb destroying it and leaving a trail of webbing as they go, nasty critters. Thanks for watching. God's peace James.
Mr. Ed
0:01 watch out for the poison ivy
It is growing everywhere back behind the honey house, and I'm always careful when I go back there. Thanks for your concern and for watching. God's peace Joe.
Mr. Ed
If we made the drive would you be willing to sell? I’m in north Louisiana, actually met you at the north East Texas meeting a couple weeks ago
I'd bee happy to sell you some of our bees as we have way to many of them. The problem is the distance and heat, I would be concerned they would not make the trip back home. I would suggest waiting until December to attempt the move as they would more than likely survive and you would be able to split them in just a few months after getting them home. Get in touch with me at oscelata@gmail.com and we can work it out. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Andrea.
Mr. Ed
Could a hybridization of an Asian hornet and a honey-producing bee be made?
As I am no scientist, I have no idea if that could be possible. However, with all the advances in science and biology, I suppose it could bee. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Luis.
Mr. Ed
Okay I’m sorry in advance for my stupid question but why do they call him “Mr. Ed” if his name is Jeff?:)
Not a dumb question, and in fact, it is the most asked question I get, here's the answer. Even though my name is Jeff Horchoff, the name "Mr. Ed" was given to me the day I began working at the Post Office back in '82. Then, for the next 27 years while working at the PO, that is what everyone called me. When I started my UA-cam channel, because I loved the name so much, I decided to call myself that. Thanks for asking and for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Anthony.
Mr. Ed
Do you ever donate your really old eqpt to Randy so he can get some "new stuff" in his yard?
He's picking up my discarded frames next week, and once they get into his boxes, the bees won't know how to act. They have never seen frames in one piece. Thanks for watching. God's peace Micahe.
Mr. Ed
God's peace be unto you and yours Mr. Ed. The content you post never ceases to amaze me and give me something to reflect on. My nine colonies never get to hear about your bee yard or they might make the 5 hour trip to the abbey.
Why is my bottom box now empty of bees and honey only comb . The second box is full of bees comb and honey.
2nd year new bee keeper.
Sorry, I don't have an answer for you. If I was in that situation I would simply leave the bees alone, I figure they know what's best for them to survive. Thanks for watching. God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
@@JeffHorchoff Thanks for the info.

Why are your bees doing well? What do the area look like around the monastery. Percentage forest percentage wild fields and percentage monoculture farm fields. And do you even need to boost the bees in winter. Do not tell me you are so lucky you have orchards nearby.
I think our bees do so well for the simple reason I do nothing for them other than give them space to expand, and split them when it's time. Other than that, I'm a "hands off" beekeeper. I'm not recommending others to follow in my methods, but I do recommend that each beekeeper develop their own methodology and then work to perfect it. Thanks for watching. God's peace.

🌹🌹❤️❤️🦘🐨
A little bit of a limp, Jeff. Everything okay?
Everything is fine, just getting older. Thank you for your concern and for watching. Until the next one, God's peace Neil.
Mr. Ed
You need a beetle sucker 5000 lol
And take all the fun away from crushing them and hear the pop? A very satisfying sound. Thanks for watching. God's peace Michael.
Mr. Ed
Actually in your area there’s a dearth….This kind of title confuses new Beekeepers. In the North East rarely is there a dearth…..just saying
It is an implied title, sorry if it caused an confusion. Thanks for watching. God's peace
Ya know, it would save some time & money if you bought Brian some bigger shirts instead of investing in all that body paint.
I'm going to pass that comment along to him, he just might go for it. Thanks for watching. God's peace.
