Charlie and I are once again back to the apartment complex we removed bees from last year, only this time the bees are in a different unit. Thankfully, the hive was not as big AND we were working in the AC. For those who missed the previous visit to this complex, the video links below are all from that adventure. Thanks for watching. God's peace to all.

UA-cam is playing games again. This post disappeared from my feed before I could click on it. Had to go to your home page to find it
I suspect this happens to a lot of creators on UA-cam, folks subscribe to their channel and then notifications mysteriously stop showing up or disappear from their feed. Thank you so much for making the effort to watch, I really do appreciate it Larry. God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
Ya UA-cam has blocked me from commenting for 24 hours once already and accused me of hate speech because I am a TRUTH TELLER.
Yep, happens to me with your channel all the time. I have to purposefully find you in the subscriptions and even if you do have new content it doesn't show that you do.

Every time you use your camera to spot the bees I think of my dad. He was a machinist at Texas Instruments in the late 60’s and 70’s working on FLIR for the Air Force.
That is so cool to hear that watching our video's reminds you of your dad, I'm happy for you. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Margaret.
Mr. Ed
It is so kind of people to allow you to wrangle the bees rather than call the exterminator. You do a great job!
You can spray little bit of sugar water before dumping them , so they may not be that much flighty
In the past I have done that, and it really does help. Still, I like watching the bees come to roost and I have only had 2 fly off in all the years I have been doing this. Thanks for the tip and for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
628 Dirt Rooster was getting tore up yesterday with the ones they were removing..😂😂 I think he said he had over 70 plus stings.
The man is a natural pin cushion... glad it's him and not me. Thanks for watching. God's peace Sissy.
Mr. Ed
I like that you give the bees back their comb after removal. I’ve seen some removals where they toss the hive in trash bags and 5 gallon buckets. I know everyone has different ways of do things. It just makes me sad .
It is just something I do because I think the bees recover quicker when given back their own comb. There are always risks with doing that, but I think the rewards of the bees recovering far out weight the risks. Thanks for watching. God's peace Suzanna.
Mr. Ed
Wish I could get as much accomplished in such a short amount of time as these bees do! Even half as much would be wonderful!
You just have to keep in mind, there are over 20,000 of them on only one of you. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Air conditioning is good! That property manager is lucky you and Charlie responded. So many swarm cutouts by others look like a demo job. Win for the bees and the property manager/owner. Cheers and blessings, my friends! (As an aside, we've got some Louisiana heat up in these parts and it is HOT!). - Jeff, Cincinnati, Ohio.
This was the second removal we did from this complex, and after finishing it we were told we are going to be doing all their removals as our work was so good. Stay cool up there, I know you guys are not used to the heat. God's peace Jeff.
Mr. Ed
Ice chest or similar box strapped to the top of the ladder would be a very good choice. Just make sure you've planned for the extra weight up there as well as your own weight so the combined total doesn't overbalance it or make it top-heavy and unstable.
Though it would seem to make sense of putting the ice chest closer, on the ladder, the difficulty of working with the added weight and the problems I would have working around the obstacles of it being on the ladder, don't make that a good option for me. That's why I keep the chest as near to the ladder as possible and go up and down the ladder to the chest. Thanks for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Great video, Mr. Ed!! Better check on the legality of possessing that hawk feather. Doesn't matter how you came to be in possession either. Don't want you to get in trouble.
I had no idea about the illegality of possessing feathers of birds of prey, and now that I am aware of it you can bet I will never pick up a feather again. Thank you for the information and for watching. Until the next one, God's peace.
Mr. Ed
There is a blade for the oscillating saw that's specifically for drywall and it's great. You can run it at a controllable depth so you don't let the smoke out of the wiring 😊
Suggestion. Why not created a type of box that attaches to the ladder for when you are the only one handling the bees. Also, you would be able to remove the bees with the shop vac. Once box removed, replace with another box. It could be something lightweight and honey proof. Just a thought ❤❤❤
Your suggestion is a very good one, and one I have thought about doing for a long time. In fact, Charlie has said it a number of times as well every time he sees me struggling to find a place to put my tools as I'm removing comb. I'm certain you will see a contraption for that purpose in the future. Thank you for the help and for watching. God's peace Theresa.
Mr. Ed
Hope the queen survived, she made a pretty brood pattern and looks like decent temperament too. But like you said, if the hive needs it, an emergency queen cell is possible. Keep us posted on that in a following video, please.
The queen did make it and the bees are doing very well. I do plan on making an update of these bees as well as a few other ones as soon as the honey processing is over. Stay tuned. Thanks for watching. God's peace Karla.
Mr. Ed
Absolutely love watching these bee rescues. Great job guys. I have never tasted honeycomb but it looks delicious.
If you have never tasted honey in the comb I suggest you go to your local farmers market and find the beekeeper there and see if you can get some from them. Trust me, there is no better tasting honey than when it comes with the comb. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. It is indeed a beautifully constructed hive. Seems a little sad to remove this one. No doubt this location will continue to be sourced by bees in future, they obviously love it. Another welcome video.. I’ve got covid which is sapping my energy. Need some of that honey. Blessings to you and Charlie.
Charlie and I are now this complex's "personal" bee wranglers because of the work we do removing them and relocating them to the abbey. Sorry to hear you have covid, take care of yourself and get better soon. Thanks for watching while you are convalescing. God's peace Mary.

Jeff have you ever heard of bee venom therapy? It is said to help with arthritis and muscle pain. lol I have only been stung once on the ankle by a bee in the ground. 🐝 God bless! Thank you for all of your knowledge you pay forward to everyone.
Yes indeed I have heard of it, and know 3 folks that are actually using it. Two of them tell me it does help, but the third does not get the relief she had hoped for....but she still is taking the treatments.Thank you for your blessings, kind words, and for taking the time to watch my bee wrangling adventures. I always enjoy watching your cutouts! I must say that vacuum sound is ear-piercing with headphones on.
I second that. I had to turn my volume off.
The sound of the bee vac when it is running is terrible, and I try to mask it in several ways, but there is just not a good way to do it. To bad I need the thing to do my job. Thanks for watching. God's peace Brian.

The hardest part with new colonies is the fragility of new wax... it's like trying to hold sheets of jello! Well done as always.
And it seems this year we had so many removals with brand new comb. Beautiful stuff to look at, but very difficult to work with. Oh yeah, I love my Everything Bee Vac. God's peace brother.

Jeff you had better be careful advertising that you have a raptor feather. That can get you into serious trouble. The came warden takes the stance if have a raptor feather you killed said raptor which is a huge no no. Find a turkey feather to play with the bees.
I had no idea about the illegality of possessing feathers of birds of prey, and now that I am aware of it you can bet I will never pick up a feather again. Thank you for the information and for watching. Until the next one, God's peace Michael.

2:59 Mr. Ed, you should definitely wear hearing protection when using that machine. Its not good for your hearing.
I wear them very often. Years in a wood shop have taught me the importance of wearing ear plugs. Thank you for your concern and for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Another beautiful colony you catched. Why don't you put a queen excluder between the boxes? Bees go down and you find the queen above the queen excluder.
Releasing the bees into the box is always a challenge as the bees are initially very reluctant to go down into the box, adding an excluder would only slow the process down and possibly hinder it. Though the idea would work, my main focus is getting the bees on the brood as quickly as possible, and I can always go back and find the queen later. Thanks for your suggestion and for watching. Until the next one, God's peace Wilma.
Mr. Ed
I have a big colony with laying workers that won’t let the good queen lay. I want to deal with tomorrow there’s so many options, 🙏 god gives me wisdom. I’d like to see more videos about the bees you bring back to the Abby how you evaluate, treat for mites, combine, re queen?, comb replacement in the future. It was nice to chat with you quick at the bee expo
If you have a laying worker in the hive, there is no queen in it. The queens pheromone shuts down the workers desire to lay. As long as there is a queen in the hive, you won't have a laying worker. I truly appreciate you watching and learning, may you continue to do so. God's peace Drew.

Mr Ed I enjoyed your video. Have you thought about getting a Perry or Baker scaffold to setup all of your cooler, vacuum on?so you won't need to climb up and down all the time.
Yes I have, but the idea of reaching on a ladder to deposit or clean something is a lot safer done on the ground instead of while standing on a ladder. Thank you for your suggestion and for watching. Until the next one, God's peace.

I started to do a removal from the outside and the bees were hot. As I progressed I realized that I was going to have to remove the bees from an interior closet wall. Upon opening the cavity I noticed that the bees were MUCH less aggressive. Have you noticed that the temperament of the bees is different depending upon whether you approach the removed from the entrance or the inside of the hive?
I have not as I have never had to reassess the access point of the hive. Interesting theory though. God's peace brother.

Great catch Mr. Ed and GTC! Flying honeycomb can’t escape you guys!
I assume that you lose a certain percentage of the bees that are damaged by the vacuum. I also assume that by adjusting the vacuum you can regulate the suction power to minimize this loss. My question is what % of loss do you experience?
Because the vac is designed specifically to vacuum bees, the mortality rate is almost zero. This bee vac is outstanding! Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Fred.
Mr. Ed
Is it the proximity to the nectar flow and/or the construction of a structure that would cause multiple different colonies of bees to return to the same structure?
Bees swarm for only a few reasons, but they mainly swarm when a nectar flow is about to happen or is happening at the moment. The reason they swarm at that time is that the new hive can capitalize on the flow and can collect stores for the new hive they are creating. The structures they move into, regardless of what type, has no bearing on why they swarmed. The reason some swarms return to where other hives have been is because the smell of propolis that is left from the departing hive. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. Mr. Ed
You hit a bird with the monk mobile or is that just a feather you found on the ground?
If the monk mobil hit anything bigger than a mosquito it would put a hole in the side, and something the size of a bird, even a small one, would get the vehicle totaled due to the amount of damage it inflicted. So yes, I found it. God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed

Mr. Ed
I do a lot of apartment removals. They are so poorly built that they are constantly targeted by swarms. There are thousands of apartments being built in SE NC and I LOVE it😊.
You can understand why the apartment complex's are targeted, there is just so many access points for bees to find due to maintenance problems...especially with the larger complex's. God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
Why cage the queen? To accept the new home? To prevent a swarm or absconding?
Yay another great vid! Love the positive vibes!
Bees are so amazing! Great job on catching that comb! So soft. Does the sound of the vac irritate the bees, do you see a change in them when you turn the vac on?
The noise the bee vac makes is more uncomfortable to us than to the bees, they are more concerned with surviving the removal. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. Mr. Ed
Hello Mr. ED ,That is so funay the title, I love it. ❤️ really llove watching yiur bee removals. Thank you
With all those Bees 🐝 moving around all over the place and they have order in the hive all over the place.
Mr Ed, every time I see that beautiful, pure white comb I wonder, which is the best honeycomb for the monks to use for making things for the gift shop.I know it’s very soft but does that make it better or worse for their purposes? And does new, white, comb smell less than the old comb that you render? I used Ross rounds for honey harvesting from my hive and just discarded my old frames when swapping them out . Now I wish I had paid more attention!
It is true, the newer the comb, the better the wax for candles and balms as it has less impurities in it which is why the wax I give to Monksoap is always the capping wax. The smell is just the same in my opinion. Thanks for watching. God's peace Angela.
Mr. Ed
Also a noise suppressor on your audio to clip out the squeal of the vac would be really good. I find myself muting the vid and watching with cc through the cutouts because I just can't handle that noise any more. Are you sure you shouldn't be wearing hearing protection while you do these?
There is no escaping the noise the bee vac makes and as it runs almost continually during the removal it is always a problem in the videos. I do lower the volume of the sound as the vac is running or mute it and put music over it's place but neither is a good choice. Thanks for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Mr. Ed,
You had some feedback on your sound.
Boy, when you have hearing feedback can do a number on your hearing.
Love your videos and channel
Sorry for having to say anything.
Take Care and God Bless,

The bee vac certainly does have a high pitched sound to it which is why I try masking it with music or lowering of the volume when it is running. Still, it is hard on the ears no matter what I do. Delighted to hear you enjoy watching, thank you very much for doing so. Until the next one, God's peace Casandra.

Mr. Ed
Good show, guys. Thanks for sharing
Why not use the lemongrass oil (?) Every time you set up a box like this? Wouldn't it make the wait time a little bit faster?
I would say it could not hurt to add a drop or two, but as the queen's pheromone is already present on the comb, I'd just as soon leave that on it to get the bees to go to the comb when transferring the bees and comb. Thanks for watching. God's peace Stephanie.
Mr. Ed
@JeffHorchoff that makes sense. I'm not sure what they smell with the lemongrass. I wondered if it was anything close to a bee's pheromone or if they were smelling " pollen."
Hi Jeff please can you tell me what your bandit is made from as in the UK we don't have anything like it and would like to know what's in it so we can make it for our Bee removals love the channel keep up the good work regards Pete
Hey Pete, thanks so much for following along with my bee wrangling adventures, it's a real joy for me sharing the fun and knowledge concerning bees. I have a receipt for a liquid bee repellent and it has the same ingredients as are in the Honey Bandit, minus one or two. The receipt is as follows:

1 oz. almond extract
6 oz. rubbing alcohol

Bees love caffeine
And
Bees get to vote on where to swarm? They use their waggle dance to indicate in which direction they will all move.

Also, I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Joellen.
Mr. Ed
What evidence do you have that bees "love" caffeine? I'm a scientist; I really want to know.
@@Huntnlady7 I read an article written by a research group who did a study of the behavior of the amount of pollen brought in by bees on and off caffeine. The amount of honey produced was also measured during the study time. The bees on caffeine were far more productive AND, when later introduced to both caffeinated and non-caffeinated food, chose the caffeine. I’m sorry I do not remember the name of the group.
When trying to find the queen, is there a reason why you don't put a queen excluder on top of the frames so as the bees go down the queen cant?
Releasing the bees into the box is always a challenge as the bees are initially very reluctant to go down into the box, adding an excluder would only slow the process down and possibly hinder it. Mr. Ed
Question please? So if I just had a swarm of bees move into an opening under my elevated porch, would it be possible to have this type of hive in 3-4 weeks? What should I consider at this point, since they just moved in?
Don't want them harmed, but I don't think this is a perfect home for them.
The time it takes a new swarm to actually build the comb varies on a number of factors, number of bees in the swarm, availability of resources, and most importantly, a strong queen. Generally, in 3-4 weeks, if conditions are favorable, a hive can grow to about the size of a basketball. However, this may not be your case as each swarm is different, and depending on where you live, conditions vary. Glad to hear you do not want the bees harmed. My suggestion, contact your county agent and ask if they know of any bee hive removal services in your area. I hope all works out for you and your bees. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. Thanks so much for following along with my bee wrangling adventures, it's a real joy for me sharing the fun and knowledge concerning bees. I have a receipt for a liquid bee repellent and it has the same ingredients as are in the Honey Bandit, minus one or two. The receipt is as follows:
1 oz. tea tree oil
1 oz. almond extract
6 oz. rubbing alcohol
That's it and it should do the trick for you. Let me know how it works. God's peace brother.

Man sitting next to all those Bees right next to your uncovered faces looks really scary.
He was being brave for the camera, but the bees were just fine with us sitting there. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace William.

WOW THat vacuum is loud squealy... It started off my tinnitus again.... Next time could you put the vacuum at the other side from the camera.....Please
I sympathize and apologies for the discomfort the vacuum makes. Often I will totally mute the noise and insert music. It is unfortunate, but the vac has to be right next to the removal due to the shortness of the vacuum hose. I like using a short hose as it is the safest for the bees. The longer the hose, the more time a bee spends in it tossing and turning till it reaches the vac body, and this is what damages bees. Thank you for your understanding and for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Why arent you using smoke to calm the bees down?
Using smoke does not calm the bees down, it stresses them out. Smoking bees works because it masks their pheromones and they can no longer communicate with each other. When doing a cut out, the bees are extremely stressed and as I do not want to add to the level of stress they are already experiencing, it is very rare for me to use it doing a removal. I post these videos, to show just how important bees are to our very survival, and why we should not just kill them out of ignorance. I have been rescuing bees from being needlessly destroyed for over 14 years now, and hope to continue to do so for many more years to come. I love watching you work, but the sound of that vacuum gives me a headache, especially when you speed it up. And I have a migraine right now, so I am watching it muted. If I remember right, the video editing software can dampen high pitched noises or you can set it to reduce volume until you speak.
I do reduce the volume, or put music in it's place, when the vacuum is running, but it is still to high pitched. I'm sorry about the problems you have while viewing the video. Thanks for watching. God's peace Ron.
Mr. Ed
Do you run into africanized bees?
Thankfully I have not. I think Africanized bees don't like the Louisiana humidity. God's peace Howard.
Mr. Ed
@@JeffHorchoff well then they sure won't like the humidity in SE NC. It's been like a sauna here lately. Thanks for all your efforts.
I bought a marked queen put her in hive for 3 days opened queen box she flew off and has not returned will she come back she has been breed
I'm sorry to say, she will not be coming back. If she has not returned by the same day she left, she is not coming back. At least that is my experience of it. Thanks for watching. God's peace David.

100?? Water boils at a 100...lol

Hay Jeff I'm curious do you live at the Abby? Is it a real working Abby? I'm sorry to be so nosey lol. I would just like to know more about it.
I do not live at the abbey, it just appears that way. However, for years I considered becoming a monk and did live here for over a year and a half, but I am now married. Check out the link below and see for yourself if it is a real working abbey. @JeffHorchoff thank you so much for getting back with me. I watch your videos all the time. I'm in my second year keeping bees and I love it.

One suggestion - the video content is really good, but - it's really hard to pay attention to the video content when that "bee-vac" is SCREAMING in the background!! You could either do without that specific chunk of audio - or equalize it down into something less "fingers on chalkboard-ish" - or, just turn the vacuum off when you aren't actually vacuuming bees....??
Just a suggestion....long-time watcher - great content.
I have to say, the noise the bee vac makes is terrible, and to get around that I try a few things to cover it, music, muting, and lowering of the volume. There is no perfect way to cover it and because the video's content is about the removal, it has to be included. Thanks for your understanding and for watching, we will be making more. God's peace Tom.

I would say channel is in really ripen state

That's not a hawk feather; its a turkey feather. Thank goodness it is, because only a registered Indian may possess any feathers or other material from any wild birds as part of a cultural expression. Pursuant to the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918
I had no idea about the illegality of possessing feathers of birds of prey, and now that I am aware of it you can bet I will never pick up a feather again. Thank you for the information and for watching. Until the next one, God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Turkey in louisiana...? Maybe farm turkey but not wild turkey
@@carlagwatney3708 A Louisiana sportsman will prove you wrong, and not all domestic turkeys have pure white feathers.
@@JeffHorchoff Domestic birds and game birds are fine. You can pick up all the goose feathers from the local lake that you want; however, you can't keep a vulture feather. Don't worry about it!
