The more I watch this guy, the more I admire his skills as a woodworker...Nick Offerman aka Ron Swanson is my great American hero...cause we all know, not all heroes wear capes...
I've always liked his character Ron, but I just recently found out that he is an avid woodworker. I went to school for wood processes and I can really appreciate the art now. knowing that he's a master at it, gives me confidence too start my own journey.
My good friend, Yeung Chan, a world class furniture maker, recently finished a boat from a 1911 design. It can be used for rowing or sailing. I would love to build a canoe, but my shop space is too small for building one. Keep the great videos coming!
This is actually an excerpt from a longer video, so if you're curious you can get the digital download or DVD from our website. Also, though Nick's not in it, we have a Canoecraft Workshop Series on UA-cam that shows more of the process. Hope that helps!
@4.56 ...as long as your table's level often run into this hassle in the factory ..no perfectly level area to test the levelness (pretty sure that's not a word) of units annoying one is trying to test riser hinges (i make steel gates) got the formula for them, but unfortunately the formula doesn't work in practice ..the formula assumes a 90° riser hinge, and the top hinge directly in line with the gate upright.. nearly got a modified formula down pat, but still needing to test it 8 / even testing it in a virtual space (SketchUp) doesn't seem to always work (oddly)
Do not put water on your wood. Don't put water on your wood to raise the grain. Definitely do not put water between grits of sandpaper. Boats were being built long before water proof glue had ever been invented not one drop of water ever touch the wood.
@@Venom5260 that's not how the internet works but whatever... I did go and look it up though, he did a great job of playing the typical libertarian, idiotic and incompetent. But like all sitcoms, it's for those too tired or unwilling to think so I couldn't bother with it.
He may call himself a student or a mid level woodworker but the way he speaks and his obvious excitement for what he enjoys makes him a true teacher of the craft. I have never worked with wood in a way anyone would consider "fine craftsmanship" but he makes me want to try and that, to me, is a true gift
I can tell already that he's a one canoe and done man he'll never ever build another one. Why simply because he's working too slow he took 20 lb of cedar the cost $1,400 and he took 40 hours to staple them to a frame what did he really accomplish here.
dont use a level, you need a symmetrical boat and that means the same distance to the centerline or the same number of strips to the centerline. using a level is flawed thinking. anyone can build a boat sideways if they want to do it.
Sir, you remind me of my father, great grandfather & great great grandfather SO much. My dad was a wood sculptor/ wood worker who made his living at it for 30yrs. I have inherited planes/chisels/saws from the 1830's & 40"s. We still own 1878 workbench my Great grandfather moved from Kansas to Iowa in 1910 that HIS dad owned. :D
You don't keep things symmetrical by using a level. You keep things symmetrical by measuring from the center line to the strip. Stop misleading people you are causing damage
Stapling strips is 1950s technology. I do not care that the people that staple cannot see the holes. That doesn't bother me. You know what bothers me people are going to have one attempt to build a boat. You shouldn't even have a method to fill gaps. That should not even exist.
If you use a level you wont have a symetric build. The whiskey strip will be off six or more inches in length left versus right side. It will look stupid.
I'm sure the strips are top notch but it is easy to mill high quality strips without 40 feet of working room and high quality stationary machines. A Skil saw and two saw horses are all you really need.
Here’s a tip 4 years later. As a fellow carpenter with 25 plus years in the biz.....use a pneumatic stapler. All those grunts, struggle sounds and squeezing turns into effortless fastening. Love your work Nick. And love your work Ron. Extremely skilled.
I was thinking the same thing except with electric. There's probably cordless options now too so you're not messing around with the cable or the air hose.
Smoking ganja and having a cool convincing voice, is one thing. But it has nothing to do with woodworking. And it is a damn shame seeing such a fine actor making a fool of him self.

Why is he a hero? He just acts and has a work shop.
I can't tell if he is just acting here. His videos are all over the place.

Indeed, some heroes wear leather aprons.
“Use my custom glue brush”
It truly is one of a kind, must have cost a fortune.
This is one of the most relaxing videos ever. Watching Nick work on this is a pleasure.
"So far it's working. Teeehehee!"
I love this man

.....perusing Nick's stuff, love it. Attitude is everything and he has one of the best.
The pure joy on his face after that first staple haha XD
His giggle gets me every time
mypupismup can't beat that smile on his face, beautiful....no homo!
he's so adorable
That laugh!
Pure Joy!
that tiniest of squeaks emanating from the great Nick Offerman at 3:19 is proof that this man loves the work that he does.
i have much respect for this guy. a actor that is fuckin normal. just doin his hobby instead of tryin to stay in the tabloids
Beautiful stock.
RON!! Your mustache fell off!!
Ace Arch perfect comment
Omg. You beat me to it. So glad to see people who can recite lines like me. Makes me feel less crazy.
That voice without the stache just don't fit
I love how you can hear Jimmy DiResta whispering behind the camera lol
love how giddy he gets xD gotta say nick is my hero
I’m writing you in as my vote for president in 2020.
I could watch Ron Swanson build canoes until the end of time, and die a happy man. Regretting nothing.
Note the exhale prior to the trigger pull. Marksmanship in craftsmanship. Only for those paying close attention.
He should call that boat, “The Relationship”.
His laugh is wholesome
The world's greatest method actor
I love this and it's awesome, but why is it filmed with a potato?
jeebus nick everytime I see you around a canoe, your never far from western red cedar.
There is sound advice in this video. I wish it showed how to cut the planks to size and shape after gluing them!

This looks like a pretty old video.
Where did you get the molds at
Using Methylated Spirits to show how wood will look after it is oiled, instead of water, is less likely to stain or lift the wood fibres.
James Campbell Or use VM& P naptha. Doesn't raise grain. Of course its not tgat it won't ever be wet again.
I so want to be friends with this dudes 😁
look, that canoe is pretty much planking itself (quote)
I love his laugh
I feel bad for Nick. Maybe just one more season on Parks&Rec and he could have afforded an electric stapler...
@5:21 uploading now....
Tammy 1 got his mustache!
So is Nick Offerman now gonna put out a jazz sax instructional video? DUKE SILVER LIVES!!! jk, nice video BTW
Hi is there any way that I can contact you via email
Kind regards
Francois
“We’ll be speeding up this shot”
*doesn’t get sped up
Similar shot/ technique later: actually slowed it down 🤷🏻♂️
Mustache = Lumberjack, Gentleman, epitimy of a Man
W/O Mustache: alcoholic
Ron Swanson…when he takes his meds. 😂

He’s more intimidating without facial hair lol
Oh my gosh he actually giggles like that! It's not just a put-on he does for Ron Swanson! That is amazing! ^-^
yeah, apparently Tammy 2 (his actual wife irl) taught him how to laugh/giggle
Who the hell is Ron Swanson? I'm too lazy to look it up...

I came here from a stapling fetish website.
😂🤣😂🤣👐👐👐👐
Um...okay...
StapleMeTimberz.xxx
samthepoor that website seems to be down now, do you have the updated domain?
Me too
3:25 made my day
I watched him on parks and recreation, I swear tht laugh was fake in the show until now.. lol
I knew once insaw this time stamp I would arrive at his giggle
his laugh is even more infectious than ricky gervais. its as if giddyness were primal.
"Primal Giddiness: The Nick Offerman Story" (w/introduction by Ricky Gervais)
His laugh sounds like Kevin from the office
phatty363 I was thinking Ron from Parks and Rec
Why can't they have a wood working cable channel with nothing but wood working?. I could watch wood working for hours. Very soothing.
I'd rather watch it on tv, but you tube is a great alternative.
you can get a chromecast or roku stick to stream youtube on your TV.
Mark Keith get a chromecast or roku. watching on my couch for years.
Tv is the new alternative. This is the mainstream now:)
you gotta get off that garbage cable homeboy. get a firestick or chromecast or something
I just don't eat enough bacon and eggs to build a canoe
This man needs to bring back the Yankee Workshop as host.
Idgarad Lyracant there’s only one Norm!!
This man is a natural treasure. I wish this was a webseries.
Amen to that. We deserve a Bob Ross' version of Nick's Woodworking
3:23
For the ones who have built projects, the giggle is part of the joy. When a plan comes together, it's just the best feeling.
Robert McDougle I felt that way building my garden beds.
I mean, you can say that about succeeding at anything.

I can watch Nick Offerman do anything
The best laugh in the world. I envy this man so much for being able to do what he truly enjoys in life.
Nick Offerman should be an honorary Canadian
I'm usually into wire brush fetish videos, but of Ron Swanson is into stapling, that's good enough for me.
I like his custom glue brush
driesm81607 I got a good chuckle out of that.
Its hot
I have the same stapler as Ron Fucking Swanson! I truly am a man!
I have the same stapler as Milton Waddams. I am barely human.
Holy hell this is the first time I've seen him without a beard
You should probably get caught up and watch all of Parks and Rec.
I can tell already that he's a one canoe and done man he'll never ever build another one. Why simply because he's working too slow he took 20 lb of cedar the cost $1,400 and he took 40 hours to staple them to a frame what did he really accomplish here.
the more videos I see of Nick doing woodworking jobs the more I see how the Ron Swanson character played into his actual personality
just found out that Jimmy Diresta filmed this
Same
You can hear his voice briefly at 6:03
I'm 17, this year 2023 I'm going to build myself a cedarstrip Canoe by myself, wish me luck
Nick drove those staples, Deep into the strips. He just added a ton of extra sanding, to eliminate those Scars..

Click bait again..
I thought this was going to be Nick Offerman bashing planking.
I was hoping for Ron bitching about kids planking, but this is soothing
Thanks for the advice, lester.
I wish I could spend just one day with this guy. Ron Swanson is ace but nick, he just radiates good vibes
Ray we have no interest in a milkshake that contains NO MILK.

3:17 proof that Ron Swanson is not a character, but just Nick being himself

I love how he says "inexpensive spring clamps" at 2:25 instead of just "spring clamps"
One of those guys that shaves and removes 20 years.
can we get some Duke Silver smooth jazz tracks behind this video?!
Am I missing something here - staples?
I've never seen Parks and Recs, but I would get along with this guy so easily. 👍
Prolly not
OK his voice sounds like Nick Offerman, and that laugh, but wtf happened to his FACE??
Zen and the art of boat building! Pretty cool! Next, a cruise ship!
A wooden cruise ship is called an ark

I knoe I'm a bit behind in the times but... he looks totally different without any facial hair. looks like a normal bloke.
Maybe I am not understanding something, or missed it but why the staples? Won’t that make removing it from the forms a pain?
I think he has 18 feet of infeed and out-feed space in that shop I think he was just that lazy. guy that spends 1400 dollars on wood strips.
There's just something so pure and heart warming about the unabashed joy he expresses at working with wood

I have my jig done about to put my strips on. Making the was a job by itself.
When you miss the point of the meme but everyone's is too impressed to correct you

Nope. Nope you won't.
holy fuck that adorable laugh is actually his real laugh hahaha. i always thought he invented it for the character
I dont give a fuck about wood but Nick can make anything seem interesting lol

Not one of the builders af these strip canoe tells you how many planks or boards it takes to make one
Who is this imposter, what you do with Nick and his beard? Do you have no shame
