YES! It's true, Miss Potts was truly beautiful. And, Yes! Beautiful Angela Lansbury was amazing and talented.
I actually met her in passing at O'Hare back in 1989. Got her autograph and a hug. She had the slight scent of roses.
Although she has gone now, I still love her.
That explains why she sang it in that episode of Murder, She Wrote!
Omg she did?? I can't wait to see that one!
@@Imani_AM She did that in the episode 'It Runs in The Family'
Now I know why she sang this hahah cool!
Love love love her!
@@Imani_AM Season 4 episode 3 or 4😉
Found this for the first time today after hearing about her death. Rest in peace Angela Lansbury
I still can't believe I missed it out. I googled her on her birthday only to find she had passed away 5 days earlier. I was really mad no one had told me she died.
@@stitchcrashesdisney312lion4it’s equally as depressing as finding out she was alive one moment and then finding out she died the next day
Some time ago I became convinced that Angela Lansbury can play anything.
After randomly delving into her career, I fairly guarantee that she HAS played EVERYthing. Great actress.
@@Sovairu Yes, you are so right!
@@Sovairu EVERYTHING, even a pinup girl.
Classy, sexy, talented, and a triple threat. Did I also mention talented? ; who doesn't love Angela Lansbury? I adore her :)
Just over ten years ago I stumbled across this song, shared it to Facebook and my now husband started flirting with me on my post after being friends for 3 months. Thank you so much for putting this online. I have since bought the DVD of til the clouds roll by for my family and become obsessed with this song. This evening the news broke that Angela has passed away and my first thought was of this song where she isn't even a named part.
Thanks again for sharing this and indirectly encouraging my love of nearly 11 years to talk to me. ❤️
So that's what Angela Lansbury looked like way back! I can't imagine what it was like back then when she was just emerging as an actress!
planclops Oh if you could see her in her very first movie The Bergman Boyer thriller Gaslight where she's a saucy Victorian parlour maid and not worried about a little demure flirting with the Master of the house, sleepy eyed Charles Boyer. Wowzie.
"I'm a good girl, I am." Delivered as if she'd been in the business for decades.
planclops you should see her in Samson and Delilah (1949). She was ripped
The original copyright of this song is 1905, and back then 'spooning' was quite innocent behavior -- the dictionary defines it as 'acting with silly and demonstrative fondness'. More like flirting than petting, and certainly a long way from what the mind goes to today!
It refers to a man hugging a woman from behind so they fit like 2 spoons together.
And yet still in Murder, she wrote everyone is startled and embarassed when she sings it
@dmmillerjr Well, according to what my grandfather told me, and he was a young, randy man when this song was first written, it referred to when a man would stand behind a woman and hold/hug her and YES, it usually included A LOT of petting, etc. It definitely went beyond mere flirting by the standards of yesteryear.
According to the Online Etymology Dictionary, "spoon" meant "flirt" as far back as 1831, but it also meant "lie front-to-back" as early as 1870, derived from the earlier phrase "to lie spoon-fashion."
I loved Angela Lansbury.
God bless you Angela RIP
Whenever I hear and see her singing The yellow Bird, I start to cry... She is so talented in so many ways, she CAN play anything, and yet she always stayed a character actress and a true artist, and even more important - a true lady... For me, she shall always represent how a real actress should work, behave and live. A genuine diva, may God protect her. Mrs. Lansbury, if you ever read this - I love, respect and admire you!
She is very talented in all her characters she portrays
Her singing of GOODBYE LITTLE YELLOW BIRD is absolutely heartbreaking. This performance--along with the one in THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE--are two of the best things she ever did.
Perfectly expressed!!!🏆🎁💪🙏❤
I miss her already. 💔
R.I.P Angela Lansbury
Rest in peace Angela Lansbury.
Happy 96. Birthday, Dame Angela!
There is nothing like a Dame!
LADY Angela of the British Empire!
She is so charming - a real trooper.
Thumbs up for the man at the pub who heard us say 'spooning' and recommended the song!
Rest in Peace Angela. Always top dog in my book
Love angela and the shoes look at her shoes
Beautiful number conceived and choregraphed by the great Hermes Pan!!
When Angela sang this in Murder she wrote It seemed to me like there was a reason almost like it was a tribute to something .. and little did I know here it is. Awesome!
I have to admit I thought that it was written for the scene just like the "early one morning, just as the sun was rising" line before.
I see I was wrong. Totally wrong.
One of my favourite musical performances from one of my favourite films, the underrated, "Till the Clouds Roll By." The music and songs from the great Jerome Kern still live today as part of The Great American Songbook. "Spoon with Me" was written for the musical comedy "The Earl and the Girl" by Jerome Kern in 1905 and this version quite fittingly matches its Cockney sound with an ensemble dressed as Pearly Kings and Queens. Angela Lansbury could play virtually any role and was a master of dialects. She is one of the very last gems remaining from the Golden Age of Hollywood and it's very much hoped she will continue to contribute to an extraordinary legacy.
she is amazing
What a Legend. So glad she is still with us. Also love her song with Bea called Bossom Buddies
Not anymore 😞 RIP Dame Angela Lansbury
This song and dance routine is a classic and I love it. :)
Rest in Peace, Queen. 😢
Pin-up Lady Angela! Happy birthday to her!
I've just seen (July '24) an episode of Antiques Roadshow US, where someone had brought along the very frock that Angela Lansbury is wearing in this movie. The woman bought it at an MGM sale in 1970, so I had to see it for myself. Lansbury was so lovely.
R.I.P dear lady xxxx
Multi-talented lady, brilliant career.....thanks so much for posting this.
I envy every guy that hugged/kissed her 😩 methinks I have a crush on gorgeous Angela 😍
Rest In Peace Angela Lansbury ❤️❤️

Rip Angela ❤
Rest in peace angela lansbury
Angela Lansbury is what 92 now that just proves life goes pretty quick
92, still healthy and working!
I often lament that most of the world only know this brilliant, beautiful and talented lady from Murder She Wrote. A pleasant series yes and it gave her stability and great wealth. But She was oh so much more.... from "Gaslight", "The Portrait of Dorian Gray", the above bio pic, 'Manchurian Candidate", "The Reluctant Debutante" to Broadway's "Mame" and so much more..... a magnificent Lady and career! Thank you for the lovely clip.
Donald Pippin;its Angela Lansbury singing here .She isnt dubbed in this song. She was only dubbed in the film The Harvey s girls because they wanted a more sexy voice for the role.
Can't believe they did it! She is such a great singer!
Simply ADORABLE! I'm up at 7am to watch Murder She Wrote EVERY weekday morning! 3 hours Saturday mornings!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
She's my other Abraham Hicks!!
🏆🙏💪🎁
Rest in Peace Angela!
RIP Angela Lansbury
Happy 94th Birthday you awesome lady xxx
She was born in 1925.
Angela herself said that her voice was dubbed in "The Harvey Girls", but not this movie. It was an interview with Robert Osborne.
I love Angela Lansbury sooo much! I've noticed that her British accent is not as strong as it was here in comparison with her later golden years in tv series and movies. She sang this song as Emma McGill, Jessica Fletcher's British cousin, in Murder She Wrote and her accent when she sang this song was not as strong!
Decades of living in America turned Angela's London accent into a Transatlantic one
@@eamonndeane587 oh my goodness... Really? 🤔 It's very unique sounding by the time she's in Murder She Wrote. You can say that she's acting as an American lady, but when she starred as Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast her British accent is quite faint there
Actually, the song she sang in that episode was “Little Yellow Bird”, reprising it from performing it in “Dorian Gray.” Love that song even better than this one!
@@SmartPracticeSuccess there was another episode where she sang it for a family and the family's father wanted Emma McGill to inherit his fortune. I forgot which episode that was
@@AliTass the Viscount BlackRaven
Watch her singing 'little Yellow Bird' from the Picture of Dorian Grey..........she was soooo good in Manchurian Candidate and The Private Affairs of Bel Ami.
Pushing Up Roses brought you here too and just admit
Just saw her dress on The Antiques Roadshow!
RIP Ms Lansbury
Thoughts that went through my head:
Angel Lansbury?! :O And spooning :O
This is far away from Bednobs and Broomsticks and Nanny McPhee :P
I love old musicals! This is amazing!
nooooo that's her? awesome!
Wow..never knew she was do fine..😇🥰🥰
Embroidered stockings on the chorines -- MGM really went all out to produce phenomenal films.
Talented lady.
She was absolutely ravishing what a STUNNING lady
Classic.
This very DRESS was just on Antiques Roadshow. A woman bought it in 1970 when MGM sold off all their artifacts. For $25.
Géniale! Dans cette séquence elle a un je ne sais quoi de Betty Boop. Elle pouvait TOUT faire!
I came here because of a Murder, She Wrote episode in which Jessica's British cousin Emma MacGill (also played by Lansbury) sings this song.
I'm wondering is there still any musical theater like this in this era ????
It's strange to see JB Fletcher flirting like this :P
RIP Angela Lansbury.
That's not JB Fletcher that her cousin Emma McGill 😂
So, she maintained the same hairstyle for 70+ years!
Well Rather!
one girl, two spoons
RIP
Here because of pushing up roses
Ciao Angela💖💖💖🙏🙏🙏🙏😘😘😘

I am watching the movie right now, I got a sealed copy on VHS for free at a place that gives away free books and movies. I never seen it before, it looks good so far
MURDER MY HEART.
Pushing up roses brought me here
Wow great colour for a 1946 film!
have you never seen The Wizard of Oz, or Gone With the Wind? They're from 1939!
@davidrubiomartin
It basically means cuddle .
blimey, pearlies! lol
Jessica Fletcher is that you? Lol jk, Iove Angela Lansbury, in every era! She's one of my favorite actresses of all time and I think she's severely underrated. She acted with SO many stars!! And she is still around to tell you about every single one of them. The public station played this movie last Saturday and I enjoyed every minute I watched!
I love her accent! Oh, and until this scene, I didn't even know people said "spoon" back then lol
And replace them with bright lights like Christmas
They were some real spooners back in the day, huh? 😂😂
Она здесь самая красивая!
I heard this song on murder she wrote also angela lansbury srars in that
Holy shit, her waist is miniscule!
I never knew Murder She Wrote was so hot until i saw her in Judy Garland's The Harvey Girls.
I love The Harvey Girls, too!! 😍 I loved her as Em in that
@@Imani_AM "OH YOU KID!!"

@@pastelpompadour6512 yup :)
what the hell is spooning mean? sounds abit naughty
Means cuddling. The person on the inside is the little spoon and the person on the outside is the big spoon. Until this, I never knew that term was this old!
Bellissima altro che marilin morro'
Man, the dvd I have has terrible picture quality, these clips are way better restored. Maybe I should try blue ray for this film?
THIS CLIP IS NOT USING ANGELA'S VOICE IT WAS A HOLLYWOOD DUB. IN AN EARLIER FILM SHE DID SING "LITTLE YELLOW BIRD" IN HER OWN VOICE. THA'S ABOUT THE TOTAL TIMES THAT FILMS USED HER VOICE. A PITY WASN'T IT?
No. In both "The Picture of Dorian Gray" (the film you're alluding to) and here in "Till The Clouds Roll By", she is doing her own singing. And why are you typing entirely in capital letters?
There's not the slightest doubt that this is Angela's own voice. It's quite distinctive.
THIS is her voice. She was dubbed in "The Harvey Girls."
With the London Gayeties... and boy they're not kidding.
Gli spettacoli di una volta non quelli orrorrori contemporanei di sola programmazione mentale tossica almeno li si davano un freno e c ' era un po di qualita' ora e uno schifo la tv il cellulare ecc
Edward: My comments are correct. Angela's own voice was used only in "The Picture of Dorian Gray" singing "Goodbye Little Yellow Bird". In "Till the Clouds Roll By" it was not her voice. This is the true facts.
Prove it.
You're just flat out wrong on this one. Her voice even contains distinctive tones that are exactly her voice.
Striker The Purple Frog maybe he'd say they got the same person to dub it forty years later when she "mimed" it in ep 6 season 4 of Murder She Wrote?....
Agree with you Mr Pippin. It does not sound like AL.
He voice was dubbed in Harvey girls not this movie. I saw a documentary on her and she did this song and brought it back on murder she wrote when her cousin who is played by Angela Lansbury sings it
Spoon with me? Hmmmmmm ... rather racy, eh?
It is so innocent. Yet, when she does it, it seems a little dirty, doesn't it? :)
Judy Garland has more talent.
What in hell is that dumb comment supposed to mean? They're both incredibly gifted artists...comparing them is as idiotic as likening a cranberry to a painting by Utrillo. But then, trolls live for creating conflict and starting pointless arguments.
Eh, cranberries, used correctly, are always better than Utrillo paintings. Everyone knows that.
It's not a competition. Judy and Angela are extremely talented women in their own respective ways.
Absolutely true but stil she is a Nice lady.
Everyone has their own talent.. No comparison... Tq
