There’s something about old musicals like these that just make me wish I lived in this time when all these musicals were super popular. The sounds and the choreography are just so old times it’s perfect! The flowy dress and the bright pastel colors were beautiful!
This movie is seriously underrated. Just about every number is sublime and Donald & Debbie have such jubilant chemistry here. They should have become a team.
andrea contreras Twirl _ hello darling! you are aware that retro fashion is a thing?. I dress regularly in 1950's fashions, complete with lovely hairdos. I also like 1930's . If you do a search on UA-cam you'll find a huge community of vintage fashion followers, most of which enjoy thrifting and refashioning clothes into some beautiful creations ( just like back then) . If you have male friends interested in this style, check out "the Chap" magazine, a quarterly publication from UK. In Uk and US there are lots of gatherings and parties for people who love retro style. You can also check out Balboa, swing or Lindy Bop dance lessons in your area if you're interested in making friends with the same interests. It's wonderful!
"Singin' in the Rain" is one of my favorite movies but here she has better chemistry with Donald O'Connor than she ever did with Gene Kelly. It doesn't even feel like romantic chemistry, more like a fun friendship between two people who aren't acting but genuinely like each other, but it still jumps off the screen.
stregadisalem Exactly, that's what I was thinking during the "Good morning" moment in "Singin'in the rain". Also, I think Gene Kelly would be amazing in films like "The Godfather". I find some of his acting in "Singin' in the rain" quite scary, for example, the moment when Lina "sings" on stage. R.F, Cosmo and Don move their hands and make funny faces. Gene Kelly looks more scary than funny there.
@@juliaharano9548 In the scenes with the trio (Debbie,Donald and Gene) chemistry seems weird. If you show scenes from the movie to someone that doesnt know the plot he/she would be sure who is Debbies love interest
The age difference is also at play: Debbie was 19, Gene was 39, and Donald was 27. Actually, while watching 'Singin' In The Rain', the girl who portrayed 'the seductress' in Don's musical, when she danced with him, I straight up thought "that's the kind of girl that suits Gene Kelly", and Debbie Reynolds looks best together with Donald O'Connor. Of course, I'm speaking about their characters, but since in musicals they didn't bother much with portraying complex characters, they would always come out very similar to the actors portraying them. I think, Debbie is so petite and adorable and doll-like, that she looks perfect with Donald O'Connor, the kind and easy-going, adorably goofy lad, who is endlessly charming :)
I remember first watching this on tv one afternoon while convalescing from a serious op. I was in my teens and feeling low. This movie cheered me up no end. Thanks Donald O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds wherever you are.
I've never seen this before. MGM did wonderful numbers like this, from a film that is just a footnote in the 1950's musicals. Donald and Debbie are sheer magic, and they make it look so easy! Thanks for uploading.
Never saw this film before. Debbie is such a young girl in this film. I see it's from 1953, the year I was born. Debbie only got more beautiful as she aged. RIP Debbie, you will be missed.
Debbie could do everything...dance... sing and really act when she had dramatic roles like Rat Race....the Catered Affair.....and she was and still is a great comedienne the last of the breed of all around Hollywood talents
Are we just going to act like Jamie Foxx doesn’t exsist? He is genuinely talented in everything he does. Songwriting, singing, stand up comedy, sitcoms, drama, suspense, & plays the piano. Not only is he a golden globe winner but an Oscar winner, 2x grammy winner. And if we’re talking nominations he’s an 8x grammy nominated artist, 2x Oscar nominated actor and 3x golden globe actor. To be honest Debbie is not touching him when it comes to awards and talent in MY OPINION.
Donald is incredibly hot...loads of us think so......he is so adorably sexy and talented, and a beloved gentleman...he does romance perfectly...see him in Call Me Madam, Walking My Baby Back Home, Anything Goes, etc. and his great romantic dances with Vera Ellen and Mitzi Gaynor and brilliant solos:))) Also, on a TV show, 5 beautiful actresses said he was the best kisser in Hollywood. You can sure tell watching those movies I mentioned above:)

The film is entitled " I Love Melvin." It was released in 1953 after " Singin in the Rain. " Donald O Connor plays an aspiring photographer who meets Debbie Reynolds by pretending to be a photographer for Look magazine.
A nicely done fun number with a lot of energy. Even though Debbie Reynolds was not one of the highly trained dancers, she and Donald put on a very enjoyable lively well done routine that's a delight to watch.
I'm so used to seeing her and Gene Kelly as an on screen couple, its hard to imagine these two together, especially on the heels of Singing in the Rain

All that dancing, who knew Donald would have heart issues. So sorry for what Debbie went through with her daughter but glad they are together. So lovely in brown hair. Nowadays if youth have a waist that small, doctors threaten to hospitalize them.
They are terrific together. I'd forgotten how great Donald O'C. was...and Debbie always delivers. I vaguely remember this movie when it first came out. Isn't this the one where she does a dance involving football?

Donald O'Connor is the most under-appreciated performer in showbiz history.
Maybe not the most, but certainly up there!
I agree. I just loved watching him dance. I absolutely loved him.
Johnny Cardinale, he had a massive amount of talent. My understanding is that his alcoholism significantly compromised his career.
Every time I watch him star beside Gene Kelly I really think O'Conner is the better dancer.
