- Following the world premiere of the documentary Hamilton's America at the 54th New York Film Festival, director Alex Horwitz joined Lin-Manuel Miranda, Renée Elise Goldsberry, and more on stage for a Q&A.
Lin-Manuel Miranda takes us inside the making of his groundbreaking American musical Hamilton, winner of eleven Tonys, as well as the Pulitzer Prize, and a Grammy Award. We follow Miranda, his collaborators, and key members of the original cast on their exploration of the history that inspired the show, visiting locations from Valley Forge to the West Wing. We also track the show’s journey, from the moment Miranda thrilled the Obamas at the White House in 2009 to the first year of its blockbuster run on Broadway. Hamilton’s America debuts at the festival in advance of its PBS Great Performances broadcast. A RadicalMedia and PBS Great Performances documentary.

Guys our planet doesn't deserve Lin
Ella Rose how true
At all. We're so blessed to have him.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate how good Lin looks? Cause oh boy..
Yess
He is always adorable. In this interview, however, his eyes look tired. I doubt that he ever really gets enough sleep.
@@SeasonsChange14 Lin is non stop!
I can't imagine Lin being depressed at 19 at all :( he didn't deserve it
S. Herondale he spoke about it in a college speech
was it in the commencement speech???
Brittany Little Rose i think
Most don't
I want to see a Q&A where Ron and Lin-Manuel ask each other questions ... maybe a moderator to prod them along.
Renees comment on how she thinks Angelica was the first and only one to know the answer of the question “who lives, who dies, who tells your story?” BLEW MY MIND. She was such an Eliza enthusiast, way before anyone in their lives were. That is pretty much historical and contained in her letters! I absolutely adore that thought. And also, YES RON!!! His comment on the women in Hamilton’s life was so mind opening! Great great great interview. This documentary is a gift just as Ron’s biography, just as Lin’s lyrics and the casts portraits of these brilliant and deeply flawed people.
Lin is so sweet, he's a bubble of energy
and that kid "Okay we got two questions!" XD
i liiive for Angelica! I agree thats she's the biggest badass!! from the first moment i heard satisfied i just had this connection and sense of empowerment from her and respect for her! she seemed really intelligent.
also i never wanted this to end!!!
Gabriella Sanchez me too, this is the very first q and a session that I actually sat through, that was purely intellectual, and not boring.
i just want to thank lin for existing
Lin's expression at 16:30 to 16:34 lolol
I would absolutely watch 100 hours of Lin writing process and Hamilton being made! I'd consider it a week well-spent!
I have not seen the musical. I watched the PBS special. I was hooked. I have been listening to the soundtrack on loop (i run to it and get mad if I don't get my daily dose) which has lead to purchasing Ron's book. I think EVERYONE involved in this project whatever their role are absolutely brilliant. It has moved me, changed me. I know this sounds corny but it has become a healing soundtrack for me. Thx to everyone.
you are not alone. welcome to the Ham Fam!
eyescandeceive glad to be aboard.
Have you seen it since it's been on Disney+?
Thank you! I NEVER get tired of watching anything involving Lin, Renee or Hamilton!
ron's view on the three women in Hamilton's life just changed my entire perspective. what an amazing point
It's kinda awful though, and sexist, that they SERVE to make and portray the character of Hamilton better and more complex, they should be great on their own.
well, he didn't mean it in the sense that those 3 women are only there in the play for Hamilton's character. He meant it in a way that it just makes the symbolism THAT much better! They are undeniably amazing characters in their own way :)
Leithian it's not sexist smh
Leithian - I got the same vibes when he was talking. They're incredibly well rounded all on their own, but he was coming from a good place and he does have a point. You /can/ see those traits in Hamilton and since he's the one we know the most about it's only natural. But I wanted to comment cause I felt the same.
I like Ron Chernow's voice and how soothing it is.
Lin is possibly the most eloquent dude in all of time
Well then, you're lucky to be owned by dat dog
But, strangely your mange is the same
I wish Pippa could have been there, too
LIN LOOKS SO GOOD OMG. HIS HAIRRR
I remember seeing this guy, the director, singing on Lin's wedding. And other faces from Hamilton as well.
lins eye bags are so big. poor baby doesn't get a lot of sleep in between shows.
it should be illegal to look that attractive
The thing is, you could be talking about Lin OR Renee, and I wouldn't know the difference 😆 they're both adorable
Renne looking like a queen as always
"The three women in his life: Angelica, Eliza, and Maria Reynolds" WHAT ABOUT PEGGY!?
Callie Only 4 girls in the entire show, and Peggy wasn't even considered as an important character. #AndPeggy
Gemn Ava
Peggy was actually friends with Alexander
In the 1st song it's Angelica, Eliza, and Maria saying "Me? I loved him."
Volterra Chan wow I never noticed it was Maria and not Peggy.
Volterra Chan o
We can all speak to Lin's brilliance all day, every day. That's really the best word for this magic he made. Brilliant. The show is brilliant, he is brilliant
Love Hamilton and everything it stands for.
I can so see a scene after Who Lives Who Dies Who Tells Your Story that's just Burr as Maria's lawyer
Thank you for sharing this with the world via youtube
I read the book and realize how complex Hamilton was and the times we live in are.
Lin's a fan of Jane Austen! Yay!
Was so happy when I heard that. And I totally saw the parallel between the characters in Austen's novels carving their life without the men and the Schuyler sisters in the musical
Omg Ron Chernow blew my mind with that Eliza, Angelica, & Maria analogy....wow...
In the description of this show, it mentions Alex, Lin, Renee, and MORE. You have to left out Ron the original author's name. Sure.
Watched it last night. Great Documentary!!! 👍
That young kid had the same question I've had for a while.
"Johnathan groff is white?"
Me: 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The thumbnail ❤️❤️❤️
i hope they make a version for like highschools to do i will audition for every part if i could
What a great thoughtful answer from Lin to an interesting question.
why do the original cast members have to leave the musical, hamilton, they play their parts soooooo well
Edit: I was much younger when I wrote this and didn’t completely understand the concept of musicals on broadway and now I understand it a lot better and I was able to see the Chicago and they were really good I think that it is nice that the musical was able to break out so that people all over could enjoy this experience
Kristara Marshall why do we have to say goodbyeeeee
They have done it for almost 2 years now, 8 Shows a week, it is not a movie, you have to give it all each and every night. It get's to you. Usually the original cast of a broadway play leaves after 8-12 months, that they stayed this long shows how much the original cast loved it
It's in their contract. You have to let them move on and do other stuff at some point.
I saw Lin say somewhere that a big part of it for him was that he had a kid, and he realized he couldn't keep up the theater lifestyle and also be a good dad.
Sweet! Early days! Again...sweet!
Where/how can you watch the film if you're not living in the States? I'm really interested and it's kinda impossible to watch the play.
When the first girl asked a question he went from 😁 to 🙄
great interview & discussion *0*
*why isn't The original cast there anymore*
Alex is fucking amazing.
Lin looks like Matthew Broderick
Plus I haven't seen the musical yet, but i really want to see it, WITH THE ORIGINAL CAST MEMBERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To late
@@alex90028 This didn't age well. #Disney+ for the win.
Angelica Killed Hamilton.... Hamilton asked Angelica for advice, Which made Hamilton talk to Jefferson and Madison! Then~! Burr got upset then killed HammyHam (Nah im jk Idk)
31:20 - 32:08
Can anyone please tell me the name of this film?
Rushati Chowdhury Hamilton's America
Pippa is not there...😭
30:15
The interviewer seems like she could go at any moment
Renée is my mother figure, she is like a unicorn that pukes rainbow cats and kittens. Plz help me
I love lin's hair :D
This is a lovely conversation, but politically painful to watch in July 2020. (Going on the deep dive...)
16:30 was that a fart ;))))
I swear I heard it😂

-I hate everything and everyone-
you can brag all you want about your show, trump still won.
govcalif not the popular vote...
What did he win? The chance to destroy our country? Good job so far.
