    I bought a full set from 6 to SW of the G700. I also added the G400 Driver, FW, 3,4 &5 Hybrids and the Ping Sima G Tyne putter. A full set, based off of your review. I have never, EVER been happier with a set of clubs. I've set all time personal scores (83) on a hard course and an 87 on a hard new course near me. Thank you so much for the review. Also, my clubs are pristine and mark free. Not sure what happened to yours, but mine are great. Thanks, and take care.

    I am a single handicap golfer (5.7) and they are happily in the bag. They are one of the most versatile irons on the market. When you listen to Rick Shiels, they flat out perform. Yet, he still says they are targeting higher handicappers. I think it is due to old biases of offset, size, etc. At address, they have a fairly thin top line and you don't really notice the size from heel to toe unless you put a smaller faced iron next to it. They are performing for me. More GIR means more pars or birdies.

    Great review Rick. But I don't understand why the lofts are getting stronger and stronger. As I mentioned in another vlog I'm afraid that in a few years my bag will be:
    LW,
    SW,
    GW,
    AW,
    PW,
    ASW (approach short-iron wedge),
    GIW (gap iron wedge),
    AIW (approach iron wedge),
    ALW (approach long iron wedge),
    and finally iron 9 with 19* loft
    😂😂😂

    12 h'cap. Swiched from Miz 825 to these and could not agree more with your comments on accuracy. I tested a 7 iron on range almost to destruction and dispersion was three mow lanes (each lane is about 6 feet). Switched because I am getting a little older - 57 years and was beginning to struggle. I am convinced these irons will bring my handicap down. Amazingly they do stop on greens. I play a seaside course where greens have been firming since early March.

      Thanks for your feedback however I'm concerned how easily they mark up and I don't want to use iron covers. To me that's a real bad point on this set of irons.

    Great review, Rick. I already ordered a set of these last week, though I've been using "player's" irons for quite a while. Like you, I found them to be VERY forgiving. Even shots that I thought were struck poorly were only marginally off-line. At 59, I'm thinking I need the one extra club that I expect these to fly, and with hitting longer clubs more often for approach shots, the forgiveness won't hurt. Oddly, the salesperson at the PGA TOUR Superstore spent the entire time trying to talk me into buying Taylormade P-790s (not much of fitter, I'd say). I've loved hollow-head hybrids going back to the late 1990s (Tour Edge Iron-Wood, PRGR i200) so the offset doesn't bother me, and I have to admit I was first attracted to them because they look heads and tails better than PING's previous "game improvement" clubs. Showing off all those scratches worries me a bit, but I'm three rungs on the ladder above anal retentive when it comes to caring for my equipment.

    Love the new Review format you got going. It really does show what you can get out of everything you test. And that the GCQuad and field testing isnt always the same. It really does show the importance of testing a “thing” on the course.
    Keep up the good work Rick !

    I watched your review on the I200 irons and went to buy some. I came away with the G700 irons. I have a 14 handicap. The shot grouping was better with the G700. The distance was better with the G700. The launch angle was better with the G700. The "feel" was better in the i200. The sound was better in the i200. But at the end of a 3 1/2 hours complete club fitting by a great pro, I went with what WORKS!! I can "feel" good after shooting a low score. The sound of money going into my pocket when I win will be better than the sound of the i200. I can't wait to get them and play. for the G400 SFT driver and 3 wood and the G400 3 and 4 hybrid and the G700 irons down to the SW , plus a Glide 2 lob wedge I spent 2700 dollars. I think it was money worth spending. I do worry about how it will scratch up now. I won't lie. That concerned me a lot, as I take great pains to take care of my irons. Loved your review. Loved it!!! Thanks Rick.

      I read up on the damage issue before purchasing a slightly used set of G700s from an older gentleman. I learned that buffing the clubs with 700 grit sandpaper restores the finish without damaging the clubs. I used 1000 grit on them and the clubs look great.

  • @alanhorabin744
    @alanhorabin744 4 роки тому

    I purchased a set of these when they first came onto the scene to replace my G30,s. On my third round out the head flew off the 8 iron. I had never had that happen to me before. It was duly repaired but then one month later the head flew off the 9 iron! They were clean hits i.e. no ‘chunks’ , mishits etc. The heads came off as clean as a whistle, no damage of any kind. The whole set went back to Ping for inspection who supposedly reset every club. On return I used them for approximately 10 rounds and the head came off the 7 iron. At that point I took them back to the pro at my club where I had originally bought them and told him they were all his to do what he wanted with!! I now have a replacement set of irons (not Pings). As a footnote my club pro contacted Ping over a month ago to discuss the problem. He has yet to receive a satisfactory response. I have never had a problem with Ping or any other manufacturer before, so maybe this was just plain bad luck. Nonetheless, take this as a ‘buyer beware’ message. They were not cheap irons to say the least.

    Terrific review as usual Rick....I just hit these at a US based Ping fitting center today. They are indeed:
    1) VERY forgiving
    2) Very long (about 20 yds longer than my old G15's )
    3) VERY expensive....$200/club with custom graphite and Winn grips).
    Nice sticks though....very very nice.

    I love your Trackman? shots and your video editing getting fancier. It's very pleasant and that's why I always come back to watch your club reviews.
    Great idea testing the spin out on the real green. I am an 8 handicapper with a relatively slow swing speed (85-90mph driver) but I never had any problem stopping my ball with Callaway Apex UT 24 or overshooting it. I am pretty sure a lot of people would love the longer irons of these G700s. I know I would because the hybrids just don't look right to my eyes.

  • @Uniprnt
    @Uniprnt 6 років тому

    So, right about the spin and stopping on the green. I took out G700 7iron to test. Hitting to various greens on my course in Florida-I found that the ball stopped quite fine on the greens.Also, found that the club bore thru the wind quite well even with extra height these clubs give. I was fitted for a set and should have them soon. I note the scratching issue but
    I will guard against that by buying a bag with separate iron compartments.

    Rick, I bought these irons after you said you hit 20 straight Greens and said you wouldn't play with them personally. I've had them for three months now. Initially I did not care for the sound. The feel wasn't as buttery as my G30's. I don't have a fast swing speed with my irons. I carry the gap 110, PW 130, 9 140, and so on in increments of 10 yards. My misses are on the toe past the grooves. They usually carry the distance anyway. I have grown to love these irons. They stop just fine using "real" Vice Pro Plus golf balls. I shoot in the high 70’s for the most part and occasionally under par. Having said all that I may want to mix in the new 500's from 8 iron down. Thanks for your reviews.

    I have the iBlades and love them. They have traditional lofts. In the past, I struggled to hit long irons - no more (more due to technique rather than clubs). My question is - what’s the difference between hitting a player improvement irons with stronger lofts as opposed to hitting clubs with traditional lofts. You just need to use a higher number club. Which is what your doing with the newer irons - they have just been re-numbered.

    Great review Rick, just thought I'd comment 'cause I had my very first fitting experience ever, and tried both G400s and G700s.... was hitting a new-ish rental set of Srixon Z355s, as soon as I hit the G700 the difference was staggering. Am 3 years into golfing, still no defined Hcp but some ppl tell me I am in the 17-19 range. The G700 felt amazing, flew off the deck even though I was hitting off the toe, consistently (used impact tape), immediate increase in distance, height and straightness. even hittin slightly behind ball meant good hits. Also was, for the first time playing with 1/2 inch longer shaft (am 1.90m tall), maybe that was a contributing factor.
    So bottom line: fitting works, lessons are mandatory and I wholeheartedly welcome any suggestions on how to convince the other half of the household to spend 1100€ for half of the clubs I need to play. :D

  • @roberttudor455
    @roberttudor455 6 років тому

    If it hasnt already been said, of course you get more spin on a course because you are hitting down on the ball and more through it. Plus you can take a divot. Indoors off a mat, alot less spin because no divot different ball strike, and the club bounces a little of the hard bottom ... Great review again.

    I own these clubs as a 22 index player. They are very easy to hit and helped my game. I agree with Rick about spin rate. they do not stop very easily. I also would say it's tougher to control wedges from a power and feel standpoint. My 52 (Callaway) is easier to control around the green. Also, one other knock on them is that they are a little difficult to swing through rough. they are very light and don't rip through overseeded grass easily. they often with grab a little too much for my taste. Otherwise I love them off the fairway. They hit easily and very far. My 7 iron is 150-160. My 5 iron is 175-180. thanks Rick!

    A comparison video with Crash Dobby would be very helpful for us mid and high handicappers. Not only would it help with defining forgiveness between the clubs, but you would also determine how well a mid handicapper can stop the ball on the green. Club suggestions? - maybe JPX 900 Hot Steel, GBB, Ping 700 or API's. Great video Rick.

    The one aspect not mentioned was that, although West Lancs is a coastal, sandy course, we've had so much rain over recent years (and this winter in particular) that everywhere is sodden.
    Try the 'stopping' test after a dry summer and I imagine there would be an entirely different result. That said, I doubt we'll see a dry summer again...

    In general, when you're testing clubs aimed at mid/high handicappers, you should find one to test them on the course. As it stands now your concerns about stopping power on low swing speed shots remain unresolved.

    • @timbretthauer7717
      @timbretthauer7717 6 років тому +1

      Simon Koster as an 18 handicapper who owns these and has played three rounds with them, I have had no issue whatsoever stopping them on the green. I even had a 7 iron spin back about 6 inches. The ball flight is crazy high and it makes up for the low spin. I highly recommend them. They are insanely forgiving and even some moderately thin shots went sky high.

    I bought the Ping G irons with a full fitting last year and love them, but before I bought them I looked at a few used sets on eBay and noticed exactly the same thing about the scratches. There's a chrome strip along the back of the G which scratches immediately it touches anything metal! Meaning every used set looks completely battered! So ive had mine in headcovers since day 1, still some scratches from use but hopefully they will stay prettier for longer!!

    Great review as always rick.
    I love the look of these but would love to see you do a full review with the other loft options available in this set. Is it the classic and strong loft options to see if they spin a bit more and would suit lower handicap players.
    Cheers.

    I finally had my hand w some different Ping irons at the store, and I was shocked at just how good the newer Pings feel, not to mention the mega yardage! i210, i500, G700... all wonderful feeling clubs. The I series clubs hit closer to my Mizunos in feel and distance, but my god, I was catapulting shots w the G700s. If I were in the market for new clubs, I’d seriously consider any of them

    Rick, good review. With all the very good clubs out there would you recommend a good club fitting to help with your choice? I've seen evidence that fitting doesn't help that much. I play to a 12 hdcp so would fitting help? Great reviews on all your club tests.

    I really like the look of these irons!! I'm not sure about the hollow head compared to the P790 with the speed foam. Thanks for the great review as always!!!

    Can't wait to see the G 800 and the 900, 1000, 2000. I was at a party in a local golf club near me looking at all the pictures of Great Golfers over the years. The most interesting picture was of a 72 year old man who holds the course record. More interesting was he's pencil bag with old clubs. He had a 5 H'cap. Well done Sir. Now, what were we talking about, AH YES the G700 LOL

    Interesting story...I was at the Toronto Golf Show a few months ago and waiting for a friend to test the G400 driver. While waiting the Ping rep gave me a club to hit. I started to hit it, didn't know what it was just knew it was a 7 iron with a graphite shaft (which I normally don't use). Also behind me was Trackman. I hit it about 5 times and kept looking back to see what the distance was. It was ridiculous how long and straight I was hitting it. On average I was hitting carry 175 yards with my longest 183 yards. I asked the rep what I was hitting. He told me it was G700 iron and it wasn't even in stores yet. At that moment I decided to do a bunch of research and found out all the things you mention in this video. At the end of April I am getting fitted by Ping. I think this might be my next set of clubs. FYI I am currently using Cobra clubs so this is a big move for me.

    very good and honest review rick!!! its a shame how they look all scratched up after a round or two... considering how expensive they are .

    Nice review Rick, I took these out for a few rounds and was shocked at the spin and stopping Power of these irons. However I could not get over the amount of offset in these irons, everything was going left for me. Forgiveness was fantastic and sound/feel wasn’t great but it wasn’t as bad as I expected. Topline is pretty pleasing but the soles are mega wide. Keep up the good work 🏌️.

    Regarding the finish scratching/coming off easily: it might be interesting to see how the clubs would come out if you'd sand them with a fine-grain paper (the type they use in painting cars). Fair chance they'd come out shining and stay that way, I'd imagine. Then the problem would be solved.
    Another question: what does the set comprise of? 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, PW, UW, SW?

    It looks like the hollow head trend for better player irons is here to stay. I think it started with the Mizuno MP H5 three years ago.
    A good review!

    Great review 👍🏻 I’ve tested these clubs and the 7iron worked surprisingly well for me and carried 175-180 yards club head speed of 88-92. The only thing that I’m worried about is the gaps at the bottom end of the bag. Not being able to test the 9iron, PW or UW what roughly would the carry numbers be based on the distance of the 7iron? Your advice would be much appreciated 👍🏻

    I just got fitted at Sillvermere golf club and ended up with these irons. The are amazing, super forgiving and the sound off the face is wow! Yes they are slightly pricey but they over preformed on everything else I tested.
