One of my most favorite songs of my early childhood (when I was 12 in the then-Yugoslavia). I had the single disc with this song on the A-side and "These Are Not My People" on the B-side. Those two songs must have made a tremendous impact on my subconscious...
THis was just before we landed on the moon, Hot Cars and Tires screeching was music to my ears, every friday night. No seat belt or insurance or Restriction laws, we were free at the time, not just the Rich People but everyone. I wish I could go back to 1969 and live there forever. Every night and every day now
Never meaning what they say now
Never saying what they mean
And they wile away the hours
In their ivory towers
Till they're covered up with flowers
In the back of a black limousine whoa

Talking 'bout you and me

Oh we make one another cry
Break a heart then we say goodbye
Cross our hearts and we hope to die
That the other was to blame whoa
Neither one will give in
So we gaze at our eight by ten
Thinking 'bout the things that might have been
And it's a dirty rotten shame whoa
Talking 'bout you and me
And the games people play now
Oh yeah
All right
Oh yeah
Come on
Oh
Come again
People walking up to ya
Singing glory Hallelujah
And they're tryin' to sock it to you
In the name of the Lord
They're gonna teach you how to meditate
Read your horoscope, cheat your fate
And further more to hell with hate
Come on and get on board whoah
La-da da da da da da da
La-da da da da da de
Talking 'bout you and me
And the games people play
Now wait a minute
Look around tell me what you see
What's happening to you and me
God grant me the serenity
To just remember who I am whoah
'Cause you've given up your sanity
For your pride and your vanity
Turn your back on humanity
I keep talking 'bout you and me baby
And the games people play now lala
La-da da da da da da da
La-da da da da da de

Oh and the games people play

I'm still listening in 2024 a true classic !
@johnkittle4895 • Me too 🙂🎤
Back in the 1970’s I watched on TV this song in the country of birth and I was amazed about how perfectly Joe South described people back then, Today in live in USA and we “the people” can
be described much worse than before in this beautiful song lyrics…Thank you
U said it ...the "phonies" and no-accounts are the majority today
Games peopel Play.Still Listen to 2022//2023******Merci.
Unreached masterpiece,
more true then ever!
Heard it today, first time in 50 years. Heckuva song.
Seeing it every day now RIGHT ?...
Was 17 in 69 and loved this song the first time I heard it.
fifty years later I listen to the songs, as I read the comments and give them a thumbs up
I have liked this song for a long time, it's so good.
I got my own record player last year and my dad gave me a single he had of this song with Mirror of your mind on the other side. I will treasure it and take it with me when I hopefully go to uni next year.
I feel the same as the person who expressed just below me. I've always felt like that. Thank you with love for playing this honest and great song.
Absolutely beautiful haunting song. These songs are lost on the radio. Always reminds me of my parents when they were young and I was just a kid.
Woah! I still have this single. I'd forgotten about Joe. In retrospect his tune defined my youth. It is such a melancholic song.
I am. Never heard of Joe South until a few years ago! I wish I had heard of him sooner! I especially love this song! This song relates to the world even now!
My dad had this on vinyl , i used to listen to it, along with check berry, wen i was a kid, im 50 now, wot good taste i had😁
This sounds as relevant today as it did many years ago.
Same. Came here just to hear this. Excellent comment on people. Love the introduction to pieces!!!!
@@katep1248 Thanks, I like the older songs, I can understand them, and they made sense.
One of my most favorite songs of my early childhood (when I was 12 in the then-Yugoslavia). I had the single disc with this song on the A-side and "These Are Not My People" on the B-side. Those two songs must have made a tremendous impact on my subconscious...
RIP brother Joe thanks for the great times we shared together Aloha Much love
THis was just before we landed on the moon, Hot Cars and Tires screeching was music to my ears, every friday night. No seat belt or insurance or Restriction laws, we were free at the time, not just the Rich People but everyone. I wish I could go back to 1969 and live there forever. Me and my supercharged SS Camaro.
I don't believe I've heard that song since I was a kid in the 70's. Wow! Razor sharp, provacative, and pinpoint accurate lyrics. Deeply moving! Wow!
One of the stand out records of 1969!
in our lives in a couple weeks we will get the rest and
What a great timeless song!
🌞🌈🌞🌞🧡💚👌🪴👌Wonderful old song.
Nice
IMHO, 1969 was a stand-out year, as well as 1970. Some of my favouritest (!) music was from that era. A great time to be a teenager.
There was no way this was not going to be a huge hit. When I was a kid this was one of only a few songs that brought tears to my eyes then, and still does. That's the mark of a great piece of work.
Still relevant now!❤😂
