As someone who has ridden a steel frame fixed gear with a disc brake for over 1.5 years in the land of disc braked stemrollers I highly recommend it. Fun, lack of maintenance and speed of a track bike with the convenience of a "normal" commuter bike.
Having recently moded a single speed bike into a tracklocross bike with a disc brake on the front I love that rotor on there, looks great. It's just logical to keep it on especially if you can see yourself fitting a brake in the future.
They don’t have a drilling for rear brakes on their newer fx tracklocross frames. They do have a bridge but supposedly can take up to a 40mm tire, I’m waiting on my rear hub, so it’s not actually put together. I tried to put my crankset on today, but the arms don’t clear the chain stays with the 103mm spindles that were recommended for the crank I have. It didn’t specify anything but 68mm didn’t mention anything about a minimum spindle length being necessary, so I assumed I would be good with such a standard track bike size BB. What is the spindle length on the bottom bracket you used? Hopefully I will get a response from poseidon tomorrow, so I can pick up one that’ll work, without having to wait.
Add two 2x4 boards to the center of your 2x6 and you have a fun move anywhere teeter totter that you can play around with. My two kids have one and a bunch of skinnies we made and they drag them out daily to tinker around on. It ups the difficulty slightly
Beautiful build, Eric. Its a shame I can't get the X frame set in a 61 or 63. Tell @poseidonbike they're missing out on a whole segment of the market of us long legged folks.
I'm currently building a fixie. Will there be any problems with relacing a road wheel using it's rim with a track hub? Anything I need to pay attention to?
cool videos man, about your gravel fixie, I have a 44x16 tooth gear ratio but want to climb hills and ride gravel flats too, which tooth rear cog should I buy?
I come from BMX. Here's what I know about weight... If it feels too light don't fucking ride it. You will break something and the next thing to break will be whichever body part hits the ground first lol. Luckily I stuck with MTBing since I quit BMX. I wouldn't mind a classic old steel roadie bike
Would you ever consider putting crankskins on scuffed black cranks? I'm tempted for a pair of FSA crank arms which are beat to s**t but have no idea if they actually look good or stay put.
Do you think cutting off or machining down the rear brake mount would compromise the integrity of the frame? I just finished building my posidon with 700x40c tires and the wheel sits so far back on the dropout and im not able to move it up any further because the tire starts hitting the brake mount. Let me know what you think!! Thank you!
Hi Eric, can you please explain your tubeless setup, especially since you "cut out the valves from a tube"? How is the air sealed, especially at the holes of the rim?
Chrismo Chewa it works about as good as a normal valve, I’ve had mine in for the last two years cut from a tube and had no problems with it. It’s what all the mechanics did on their personal bikes when I used to work at a shop
I have successfully done a tubeless setup with a 24' cut inner tube as both rim sealer and valve, "ghetto tubeless" they call it lol. Just making sure you cut open the inner tube and leave extra rubber to cover the whole inner part of the rim
Call me an ignoramus, but riding back and forth on boards for practice in the driveway is brilliant! Alway hesitate in the wild when any kind of build feature pops up on a trail.
Do you sell Spindatt stickers/decals by any chance? I have an aluminium frame I stripped and polished and atm it’s missing a couple of big Spindatt stickers ;)
The only frameset that I've seen that comes close is the brother cycles all day at 2x the price. The pro move is finding a vintage cx frameset on ebay that has 70s/80s forward sliding dropouts. There are basically none of these in north America though.
Mellissa Nash I've looked on ebay quite a but I've never found one in my size (58cm). Also I think a lot of cx frames are getting sold as road frames on ebay in North America which can be difficult to wade through.
Quick question, I just got one today and It’s smaller then my standard track bike , but the seats stand the same height . Is that alright? My first tracklocross tbh. thank you,
You said the large was only 55cm? I was about to get the medium. How tall are you? I don’t like being laid out on a bike so I usually ride a little small. Long legs short torso.
I love the front brake rotor! Bluetooth Brakes are the 2020 trend!!
Hahaha
@@Spindatt welds are crap on that 200 dollar frame

A tracklocross race was the first cross race I went to. I've never ridden fixed before and it made me want to start a build and try it out.

Thanks for posting these. Enjoy the just make it work attitude.
One of the only channels where you see 200+ thumbs up and no thumbs down.... nice work men.
My Tubeless tracklocross wheels come in Thursday! PUMPED
I don't worry about the weight of my bike. It's something ENJOY thinking/doing/tinkering with. For me it's fun :)
I still love that damn rear wheel that you built up from the spokes of a geared hub, by reversing the spokes and using an offset rim.
My Poseidon fx is on it's way as we speak! Can wait to build it up.
Not to gloat, but mine got here today. 🚴
I want one FX Tracklocross but the freight charges to SG is insane. One on One ! Freight charges = FX Track Frameset !

Hey what did they say? I am getting this frame in a few days
This bike is just so damn radm it makes me wanna build a fixed gear again and ride some trails.
I really want to try fixed wheel off road but I know I’ll end up in hospital!!! Lol.
As always, great vid Eric. Keep up the good work and stay safe.
I built one with a peugeot frame six years ago. It was also my go to my for everything. Daily commuter for almost three years before it got stolen.
Because of you, I wanna modify my road fixed gear for a tracklocross :P
same, plus it seems nicer to be out on trails with nature than in the city with loud noises, cars, and people lol
I don't know the weight of my bikes and don't care enough to know, as long as feel good to ride I'm more than satisfied.
This is the way.
Dropbars would look awesome too

I had that same problem with the rear brake bridge so I just cut mine out. But my frame is steel not sure I would do this on an aluminum frame.
My bike has rack mounts so I can add weight as I get fitter!
Glad you are alife. Freaking shooting everywhere...

Two different spoke lengths will mess your build up. Mine works because non symmetrical rim

How insane would it be to build one up 650b to work around the brake bridge issue? (Asking for a friend)
Nothing in this world is insane. Nothing

Nah, not for the lower level stuff I own. Maybe for some very posh nice gear though

how tall are you ? I've been thinking a bout the frame but the geometry throws me off.
@Spindatt
Swap to 650 wheels and u can slam your rear wheel all the way forward and probably run a slightly wider tire
Will make the bike super playful and easy to throw around imo 650 is goated for tracklocross
wait dad bike has no bars already?
machining of the brake bridge? i think you meant angle grind
