! MOAR TRACKLOCROSS PLZ !
I get to enjoy my dream build through this channel!
ALL OF THE TRACKLOCROSS COMING AT YOU!
I'm so jealous of the trails where you live. The scenery just looks beautiful.
Love the Tracklocross bike. So simple. Teaching myself to put together stuff was the best. I have so many options at my disposal like rebuilding my bikes, swapping parts, upgrading and simple cabling. I don't have to pay anyone to do all that stuff if I want to try something. Occasionally I have my favorite mechanic do stuff when I don't want to or if I just want to support him in these lean times, but hey I'm not making much money right now either and to have the freedom to do that stuff is awesome. Keep up the content. I've been following you almost from the beginning, and your channel has become one of my favorites. Good job.
I love Tracklocross
Building up my steamroller with a disc brake to hit even more hectic trails
doing my best to stay brakeless for as long as I can tolerate, but the rotor is there ready to party when required!
Spindatt fixed gear rim brake = learning/ safe
Fixed gear brakeless- pretty confident with their ability
Fixed gear disc brake= this person doesn’t fuck around
Awesome inspiration, thanks 😊 my project for the upcoming winter modification of my Globe to an off-road rider ✌🏼
If in a video you pull a camera out of your pocket in the middle of a deep rocky water crossing while clipped in and riding a fixie...your special effects guy deserves a raise.
I usually ride an expensive full suspension mtb but since the quarantine I've found myself riding a really cheap gravel bike since my mtb trails are closed. I've realized that sometimes a simpler and cheaper bike can be loads of fun.
I built my gravel bike thanks you park tools youtube page, but more importantly my local bike co-op, which had some really friendly people working there. It was only $20 for 3 hours or parts to donate to work on a bike, well worth it.
My favorite bike of yours. Need to finish my aluminum track frame so i can make my steel frame a tracklocross
Good Christ; is that a BELL on the bars? I thought I was the only one who did that! And I liked the complaint about the fender on the mountain bike, followed by multiple shots of wading with the Tracklocross (did I hear, "Whoa, that's deep!"?) ===> It DOES look like wicked fun. (And working on my own bikes has helped get through this lockdown and shelter-in-place here in Central NJ; I've paraffinned up 3 chains this week.)
@RollinRat Do you ring it intentionally, or just let it dangle and ring as you go? It sounds like a great thing either way!
@RollinRat ... for me, the whole POINT is that the bell annoys some people... especially the real serious guys. My regulars have attitudes that either like, or at least tolerate, the bell (and, in turn, we tolerate some of their peccadilloes). For the ones who are always goin' on about carbon this, VO2 Max that, and DI2 the other, I look forward to pissin' 'em off.
Definately a good point, if you are going to go with the trouble of buying a frame, its better served to be prepared to do all of the legwork yourself in researching components. By the time you have everything you need, you might as well build it!! And if you are further unsure, use your LBS who will only need to spend the time and charge you for making sure it works brilliantly and it will cost you a lot less in labour charges :)
Exactly the sensation you get the 1st time you ride a fixed on your local/memorized trail. It's like riding an entirely new trail.
PS I live in the mountain so I run a front break. You don't have to use it until you do.
lol that last sentence is very relatable.
I run a front brake on my street fixie... 09 SE Draft. I use the dual sided Dia-Compe shot lever, can brake with either hand. (Although one side is for slowing down while the other one has a longer arm for stronger braking)
@RollinRat hey, do you use just front or both?
Preach, also how does that chain stay clearance work cause I want to buy the frame but have an all city standard crank
Ever single damn one of your subscribe or else tags makes me laugh out loud. Too funny.
I keep thinking I’ll run out, but heck they keep coming out!
@@Spindatt please don't run out of funny comments....they help with this quarantine crap
I agree I ride a single speed trek 69er Mtb which I've been riding for 12 years and I still love it, so much better than a high tech 'new' full bounce ott easy rider.
hell yeah!
though.. once the trails are open again i'll want a modern AM bike haha
Totally understood. If a client were to say, "How can you charge me so much time when you've only produced X lines of code?" the answer would be, "Because I left out the X x 1,000 lines of code that didn't work." And I've had a lot more fun in the last two years learning how to fix and modify my own bike than I would have if I'd left it to the LBS.
How does this frame hold up? I been lookin at it for a bit but worried about the reliability of it
I look forward to your ending "Subscribe or I will....." comments. Too funny man!
Back to tracklocross... nope. Not for me. I'd need brakes and a freewheel. Timing where I need the cranks to be to avoid obstacles and not crashing doesn't sound that fun to me....even though I ride fixed on streets and quite often with Los Angeles traffic. (I do use a single brake up front).
That being said, gotta respect those that do ride fixed off road
You know, here is what I did.
I took my track bike out, 25c tires, a front brake, with road clipless because I don't have mtb shoes, then I ride it on gravel.
It was way more fun than it seems (or not seem).
Lovin' those tires👍🏽🚲
What do you think about building a gravel bike out of a 80s roadbike steel frame? Would love to see you take on something like that!
Niklas Evers kind of difficult because old road bikes didn’t have a lot of clearance. That being said a vintage gravel bike would be so rad.
I got raleigh record with 27 x1 3/8 i ride It anyware , looking to upgrade to 700x 32 or 35
I have a 1976 KHS Gran Sport mixte converted to 700c wheels. I'm running 38s with room for more. Uses centre pull Dia-Compe calipers. Or are they Weinmanns... i forgot...lmao
@RollinRat to be honest, not sure what tubing. And I'd guess (not at home) that only the head tube is lugged....
@RollinRat Thanks for the answer mate! I know a guy with tons of old steelframes from the 70s/80s lying around. Gonna go do some digging now!
How do I figure out my bottom bracket size when I have sugino 75s
Planning on building this frame myself using a square taper. What tooth chainring did you try that was too big?
Is the m520 safe for a fixed gear? Any advice on how to use it? I just bought one.
Nice vid. What size did you use? How much do it weigh? I purchased the same frame and working on a build myself. I saw in a video in the past you made using the Velocity Quill rims would that be a good rim for off roading on that frame? I'm thinking of putting together a set for mine.
9:28
I remember a time when i tried to clip in Ritchey cleats on Shimano pedals..... ewww
Haha! I’m in looooove with that build ❤️ What’s a gear ratio that you’d recommend?
How many gear inches are you running
What do you think about SE bikes? Heard of em? Since you're an old bmxer.
They build some cool stuff. My old silver fixed gear before the Cinelli was an SE that I changed a bunch of stuff around on.
I have an 09 Draft. Love it....
Drop bar?
Can you go over the build on the trackecross bike?
Yes, agreed! Gearing/crankset, handlebars, fork, brakes... Can't believe the frame is so affordable.
I will in an upload soon!
Thanks! The closest thing I've seen in concept to this is something like the wabi thunder built for more urban applications
joke's on you! I use some sketchy toe clips and I'm already suscribed!
Just curious about what brake mount type dose the stock fork use, I getting this framset and would like to put a trp spyre on the front.
its the old school side mount, post mount bracket thing. Don't know the actual name, but you can definitely make that happen.
@@Spindatt sweet, IS to Post Mount, thanks Eric. 👍👍
Can you run cables on this for a rear brake?
yes, but a calliper road style brake only.
Why no drop bar? Did you go tubeless with rims and tire that aren’t tubeless?
Rims are tubeless, tires are not
There's a lot of troubleshooting that budget frameset sellers don't include in the information about the bike. It gets frustrating and time consuming when parts doesn't go on and you have to modify your build. Something that could be easily avoided by more exhaustive manufacturers' indications.
its half the fun to do for yourself, but when taking it on for someone else its just stressful!
@@Spindatt I believe it's fun as long as you have parts to swap and knowledge about it. If you are on a budget it could blow up your morale pretty quickly, I guess...
I'll start with a less faithful mindset my next build just to not get too much burnt ;)
explain that front disc rotor. I don't see it connected.
It’s there. Doing nothing
Sure, Park Tool Tutorials are helpful. But when problems arise and someone need info/solutions on their own stuff, I would look up RJ the bike guy. His videos are pretty useful when it comes to DIY tools/solutions for bike stuff.
RJ is a good guy
@@jarifauti4586 I've watched RJ for a while and I've seen many cases where his viewers ask question in the comments and RJ replies like an ass. I like to call him RJ the Bike Bully.
@@RuezgaDaniel We are all humans. Some good days, a bad one... I like his videos he is good at explaining things... Have a nice one :)
@@RuezgaDaniel can you give an example? I've only seen him be very respectable.
@@RuezgaDaniel I don't know as I've not seen it. Would you care to shed some light and provide examples/evidence to back up what you say? Cause I've been watching RJ's videos for 6 to 7 years since I've worked on my own bicycles and build up bicycles as a hobby. So to say that he replies like an ass, I think it may seem that way, but I doubt it unless you can give an example.
bruh i Converted my tires to 700x35c just because of your videos amma try them tracklocross ridin onyl thing I lack is brakes
this videos is making me want to spend money I don't have to set up a set of tubeless wheels to take my track bike offroad.
Also DoEs It BaR sPiN?
I like your helmet, which one is it?
Its a specialized.. a cheap one but I can't remember the name of it
Are those Tracers 700 x 33 ?
you bet they are!
Ok now I want one
Those bars look so wide to me, but my hybrid has 35cm drop bars from the 60's or 70's
Whoa....talk about narrow! I'm used to 42cm at the minimum.
What tire pressure do you run
25 to 30psi. As I get more comfortable with this bike it’ll be flirting with 20
Love you.
Love you all.
May you all be blessed with good digestion.
hah - nice try but I use straps instead of cleats.. anyways, love the bike, great job!
What gear ratio you running on dat?
46/17
Triple thumbs up
nice one :-) well said
Can you do Q&A, about related questions? As long as it is within your knowledge
What do you mean? Like pick a topic and do a Q&A?
If you like, Tracklocross check out my T-shirts. @t
Stick some dropbars on it👍🏻🚵🏽🇮🇪
sounds like if i don't subscribe ill have a good reason to finally upgrade my pedals
this comment is already good reason enough!
@@Spindatt in THIS economy?!
Lol I’m changing your cleats then
What gear ratio are you running?
I built a single speed on a Surly Straggler frame which is currently on 44x19.
EDIT: it was originally 44x16 but I geared it down as I struggled up moderate hills. Wondering if I just need to get more time on it and get stronger.
This build is 46x17
I ride a 42x16. no shame in spinny gears!
Awesome content. Isn’t it weird that underbiking is turning out to be so much fun?
I have a battle when I use the road bike I want to do stupid things on it but when I’m on a mtb I just go and hit what I can so the road bike is for long rides with the wife I added pannier bags to it. So we can shop she has a old Panasonic bike I saved. And she loves it
What do you think about a bike like this for a budget version of a tracklocross ? www.bikesdirect.com/products/mercier/kilott-wt-fixie-wide-tire.htm
As a mechanic, it's not that hard. Took me 3 mins to figure out I needed about 118 for my crank set
Ive never ridden fixed gear and I REALLY want that bike. It seems the fixed gear world is flooded with very cheap pre-built bikes of questionable quality. This makes me want to get a frame and put one together myself but theres no stock worldwide and not too many companies doing it 🤔 hmmmm I need to think about this
I don't own any cleat shoes, what now, huh?!?
I’ll just steal your shoes
@@Spindatt well, catch me if you can 😜🚴🏻♀️
Shit yes
You deprived everyone of getting to say FIRST!
@@Spindatt you edit out the assembly of a derailleur cage. I ruin the first fun
Hahahhaha fair deal
I ride flats anyway so...
Will steal shoes
Algorithm
do ppl realy get pinch flats that often.. i have never had a pinch flat in a lifetime of biking, across maybe 6-7 bikes
Depends on pressures, where and how you ride. I get them ALL the time
i get them a ton too, although i do admittedly run rather thin tires on pretty chopped up roads
Except for one, every other bike I've owned has had a pinch flat or multiple pinch flats.. My fatbike, at 10psi or less, is still on the original tubes.
Learn how to work on ANYTHING. 🤗
Wise words!
63xc.com, yo
why is there a front brake blade when there is no brake take it off bro
meh
@RollinRat nice
@RollinRat thats a good one
Fixed gear offroad bike, and that's just dumb.
Scared?
@@Spindatt No, just not a sadomasochist.
Hahaha I had to look that up, but that’s pretty good
