Ok, I had 1 1/2 cups of lentils so I decided to try it out. Sooo good! Love the gravy on it as well. I added garlic to the mashed potatoes. We are not vegan but we try to limit our meat and stay away from dairy. 👍👍
I will be trying this dish one day I have decided and I also like more cooking on the potatoes but that is personal preference - more crispier and also I like the idea of almond flour which I didn’t use I don’t think. As well I have noticed you have tremendous eyes - great video.
Oh thank you for the compliment and I hope you enjoy this dish when you try it! I would certainly love more browning on the potatoes too but my casserole dish isn’t the highest quality and I don’t trust it under the broiler 😂!

Oh thank you. I love that this has got you thinking of another way to use the concept of this recipe! That’s always my goal! I’ve never tried what your describing but I think it sounds delicious and would definitely work. I make a taco seasoned mushroom and walnut mixture in my video for taco Mac and cheese, using lentils and kind of merging those two recipes would be great. Let me know if you give it a try and how it works out!
The Cottage Pie I'm used to used pearl onions and green peas as a layer between the ground/ base and the potato layer. (I'm going to try making it with plantain instead of potato.)
That sounds great! I love using plantain but haven’t used it as a mash very often. And you can certainly sub out the veggies in this really easily. I love that these pies are so great for using up whatever veg is in the fridge or freezer 👍🏼
@@TastyThriftyTimely Well from what I understand the ripeness pf the plantains also effects the "sweetness". I think the green ones are closer to potato substitute while ripe are sweeter for deserts. (Never tried it yet so not sure. experimenting when I have time. LOL)

@@dimifisher no no you can use them right away! You could just cook them in advance if you wanted to and keep them in the fridge until you’re ready to compile the pie but that’s not necessary!

Are you a sturdy or sloppy shepherd's pie fan? To make this one sloppy... add some broth or gravy to the base before baking it!
